Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

How helpful is that if the prosecution can show that the naughty stuff was accessed after this fellow left Smuggar's employ?  Is the jury really going to buy that this was on the computer and everyone and his uncle accessed except Smuggar??  Wow.

Because if one person who worked there at a moment in time had the password, it follows that other people who worked there had the password.  It's spaghetti against a wall but they are throwing every card they were dealt.  They have to show (or create the illusion) that others had access to the computer, therefore Josh isn't the only person who could have done it.

She should talk to Jill and get a name of a great therapist to help her.

We don't know if Jill even still has an actual "therapist", let alone a great one.

And Joy is having loads of trauma attributed to her, but I don't recall her ever addressing it in any way.  When & where did she open up about it?

Pretty sure they have evidence that Josh was there via text and phone location data exactly when it was downloaded. But yeah sure, one of these random people was also there in the tiny ass office downloading  CSMA when Josh was there and Josh didn’t notice.

Exactly.  But they just need one little minnow to nibble on their bullshit to reel them in.  It's all they've got at this point.  And there's the hope that one person will hang on the password maybe being common knowledge in the deliberations, and ignore the other proof.

She never said anything about her trauma that is why she needs to go to a therapist.

Ronald Goldman's blood was in OJ's car. Casey Anthony lied about having a job, having a nanny (whos fake name was a Xanax nickname) and didn't report her baby was missing. Her car smelled like death. She search different deaths on the internet.

The defense is throwing anything out there for jurors to grab onto if they want to. It wouldn't be the first time jurors doubt somehow overcame the evidence.

Casey actually searched a lot of stuff on the internet but the analyst screwed up and didn't check her firefox browsing activity.  It's brutal to know that.

Maybe she doesn't actually remember anything.  Maybe she HAS gotten help, but just hasn't broadcast it to the world on social media.  Maybe she's prayed on it and is confident God will make things fine.  Maybe she's decided to let the Justice system do it's job.

Not everybody has to go to therapy.  Really.

He probably insisted and fuck him forever for that. The survivors are the ones who need support, not that terrible excuse for a human being.

The dickwad with the golden dick needs all the support he can get because as we all know he would never do anything like downloading CSAM.

This is why I won't be confident about the result of this trial until the judge reads "Guilty as charged."

Sounds to me like the defense is grasping at straws here.  Some guy who worked there more than 2 years ago didn't remember one password but did remember another when prompted?  So what?

Classic throw sand in the eyes of the jury to confuse them with useless/irrelevant facts.

It’s clear that Jim Bob small dick summoned the family members to court to support golden dick perv boy. Kudos to the ones I haven’t seen yet.

As long as JB is paying the bills for his various married dependents, they have no choice about attending the trial.  We will most likely see all of the over 18s at some point.  Well, except for whoever is watching the Ms.

I'm fairly certain that many of the Duggars believe that Josh was set up. They might think he cheats and does  those "normal curious guy things" --- but in this particular case its the tabloids, the feds, the "others" who are out to bring Josh down. It's about the feds rushing to point the finger at the "celebrity."

I think we might also be giving them all too much credit to be shocked over this, to feel what we feel over t his, wanting to break away from the cult, getting therapy (except for Jill)...... I think many of the feeling are what you described along with good old satan tempting him.

Uggg.  There is no other side to a partition.  There is another partition, but it's not on the same partition.  I hard drive, partitioned into two partitions.

Well, Wofford may have said the correct thing, but didn't clarify so the reporter (and others in the courtroom and readers ) got kind of the wrong impression.

A general-assignment reporter gets sent to cover this kind of thing.....And that person didn't realize that the computer-related definition of "partition" isn't the same as the general definition of "partition."

The general definition of partition, the one that people without specialized computer knowledge know as the main noun-definition is this -- "a structure dividing a space into two parts, especially a light interior wall," IOW, the ordinary definition of "partition" is the WALL between the two parts .....

In computing, the definition of "partition" is one of those PARTS..... "Each of a number of portions into which some operating systems divide memory or storage."

And when you're trying to write a story instantly, and trials -- or just anything they tell you to report on, more likely -- are your beat and not computers, you wouldn't know this.

I think we absolutely have to cut the reporter some slack here (largely, I suppose, because I'm a reporter.....Still.....) Meanwhile, people in the computer industry like Wofford -- who know perfectly well that there are different definitions and that they don't use the one that the general public knows and regularly uses -- still often don't bother to explain the difference in terminology,  Instead, people with technical vocabularies usually just charge ahead using words with specific, technical definitions without telling anybody.

It would have taken Wofford a couple seconds to explain how his use of the word "partition" wasn't the one most people are used to.......And in a courtroom where there's a jury and reporters, all of whom need to understand what's going on but aren't knowledgeable about his field, he ought to have helped them to understand by doing this.....But his Linkedin profile suggests that he's kind of a massive grump....so that may explain why he didn't! (if he didn't)

Explain technical terminology, people! A lot can ride on that! (rant rant rant! -- it drives me crazy that people use specialized definitions that they have to know will mislead people in situations like this where it's so important!)

End of rant.

Sorry if this has been discussed previously (trying to catch up on all the posts while working lol) Does anyone here think that the relatives (siblings etc) are showing up to try and intimate any relatives (ie Jill) that might be testifying on behalf of the prosecution? I am sure they wouldn’t be saying anything intimidating but more their presence just being there would be intimidating.

I practice my testimony to my parents before I go on the stand.  If my parents, who are smart and well educated but old and not tech savvy understand what I am talking about, then I'm good.  Even if I have to stop them from coming to watch me "perform" in court.

And based on your posts here, I'm sure your explanations are excellent with this preparation....Great procedure -- and exactly what everybody should do -- but so many people don't!

I expect Mr. Wofford didn't......His Linkedin shows him to be in a general bad mood. 😁

I feel for the reporter here who's trying to write about technical stuff while also telling people who put whose arm around whom in the courtroom and so on......She/he/they is busier than a one-armed paperhanger, as they used to say.....

I am not sure this is right.  I will need to hear the forensic testimony and read the transcript before I trust anyone's recap of the evidence.  Here's the thing.  TOR is an onion router.  You use it to brose the internet, get on the dark web, and do internet things.  From what I read (and trust me, I get confused at times) he used BitTorrent to download some of the files and TOR to download other files.  BitTorrent COULD run through TOR, but the speed would be horrible for downloading.  BitTorrent does run on all OS's, including Linux.  So I'm not sure if the recap we've read have been totally clear on what was downloaded where.  The things they showed in court are def CP but aren't the horrific DD type stuff.  I would assume (taking all the risks with guessing) that the things shown in court came from BitTorrent and not the dark web.  At the end of the day, I don't care where he got it.  It's all illegal. But BitTorrent is a lot more accessible to people than the dark web. I don't trust recaps because I've had my own words mangled so badly in newspaper articles that I don't trust anything but the actual words the forensic people use.

You can download TOR from the Apple App Store. It’s not illegal to simply download, but aside from that I don’t know.

What was the line of reasoning to not allow Josh's prior history of "porn addiction?" I can understand throwing out the Ashley Madison stuff. But the past porn issue was relevant (he has covenant eyes on his computer after all) and there was both adult porn and children images being downloaded at the same time?

In the United States it's not illegal to use TOR. I've used it as a journalist. Various publications use it as part of their systems to allow whistleblowers to communicate with them safely, for example. It has uses in the government and the military, where it was initially developed. Etc.

There are authoritarian regimes that are eager to stamp it out completely. But since those regimes are the main reason it was invented in the first place by the part of the world that values democracy and human rights, that's to be expected. It's that kind of opposition to it that has to be fought, not the technology.

Here it's perfectly legal. But as with lots of other legal things -- like cars and money and locksmiths' tools --  you can use it to help you do things that are illegal.....And it's your bad acts that are illegal, not your use of TOR.

I’m just gonna say it…Anna , if you insist on going to court every day, buy another dress or two.  It’s not like it’s wrong to re-wear something, and having too many outfits can be wasteful.  But these are not poor or working class people.  Surely you can afford two nice dresses.  You just had another kid and maybe nothing fits but that seems like a good enough reason to get something new.  Dress the body you have and all that.

Maybe JB won’t pay for any new dresses? Who knows.

Joy is shilling a blue tooth speaker. She says, Austin is our DJ today and he's in the video. She might have wanted to save that one for another day.

She is too dumb for words. Next up - another almost-nude picture of her daughter.

Gotta make money.  Grand dad isn't going to put food in those mouths.  Well, he was until Uncle Josh used it all for his legal defense.

What about Austin? What kind of money is he making, really? They had to “buy” a house from JB, after all.

Mr. Wofford is upset that he's built a reputation for having a software that monitors your wayward spouse's internet habits, until it doesn't.  He better be scrambling to code up for Linux.

It is hard writing this technical stuff in court.  Having been on the wrong side of it, it wigs me out.

Austin seems to be doing okay. And he appears to be thrifty, per the tiny RV they lived in while working on their house.  At least he is independent from JB and doesn't appear to be allergic to work.
