The View producers are now claiming they had no choice but to fire MC, since they felt her stories about anti-semitism & how the Holocaust personally affected her family, were turning away viewers.......guess the network hopes the daily religious insights & ultra conservative political views of PF & CCB  will up the ratings by attracting all those stay-at-home, christian, cookie baking mothers.

Can you maybe post a link to where this story is being reported over in the media thread?  I can't find it and I would like to read more about it.

So the producers thought Michelle being Jewish turned off viewers but apparently don't give a fuck that their never ending parade of Christian co-hosts might be doing the same thing?

According to knowledgeable sources, the new managers soured on Collins early, and criticized her internally for sidetracking the Hot Topics debates with personal stories and other asides. In an election year, “The View” has been trying to re-emphasize politics as a way to gain buzz (and has seen an uptick of 9 percent in total viewers from last year’s May sweeps). But the 34-year-old personality’s areas of expertise were in pop culture, social media and “The Bachelor.”

That's a little different than saying her Holocaust stories were turning off viewers.

Oh, so people don't have a midlife crisis, but they "wake up"  one day and realize they are unhappy and decide to do something different?  Yeah, that's pretty much what people mean when they say "Midlife crisis."

There wasn't anything I liked about that woman.

I'm glad you posted this.  I agree 100%. McMillan seemed so offended with Joy for describing her book that way,  then proceeded to speak for five solid minutes about her book and she said basically nothing that didn't sound exactly like how Joy had described it.   A 53-year-old woman experiencing a mid-life crisis.  I don't understand what she was objecting to at all, really.  Maybe she thought Joy was over simplifying her tome?  Maybe.  But it didn't sound like it to me.

For the record I want to say that I don't require every guest on this show to be warm and fuzzy, especially not an author or artist or such.  They are not performers trained to put on a show of personality. But McMillan seemed like a pretty disagreeable, unpleasant person.  Her interview did not make me want to rush out and buy her book. YMMV.

I really wish People like Ms. McMillian, who so obviously didn't want to be on the show wouldn't agree to appear.  I assume she was paid; not appearing as a favor to someone.

Probably to/for Whoops,  who has been in two of McMillan s movies from her books, and who asked for a part in the new book cum movie....and she got it! Wanda.

Thoroughly unpleasant women.

Yeah that botched ending was embarrassing but hilarious all the same. Complete with Whoopsie fumbling around and proudly proclaiming how much she just doesn't care. We got the memo Whoopi!

I didn't see today's show outside of the Terry McMillan clip (remember when talk show hosts actually READ the book the guest was selling?  Or at least a producer did?) and this part which was hilarious.  I guess after having this gig for eight frick'in years Whoopi still can't figure out how to do it well.

And, the latest news is...

http://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/whoopi-goldberg-extends-her-contract-at-‘the-view’-exclusive/ar-BBtZpQO?li=BBnb7Kz

Quote

The deal is expected to close by the end of this week, according to two sources with knowledge of the talks. Contrary to online reports, Goldberg will not be taking a pay cut as part of her new contract. She will continue to earn her current annual salary, which is in the $5 to $6 million range.

Vinyasa's worst nightmare is in the works, too...

Quote

The rest of the Hot Topics table will include Behar, Paula Faris and possibly “GMA Weekend” anchor Sara Haines, who is in talks to join the panel. ABC is still figuring out if Raven-Symone or Candace Cameron-Bure will return as full-time co-hosts.

Looks like they're not anticipating signing any A-list guests either...

Quote

ABC is planning a series of reminisces and throwbacks for the 20th season.

Whoopee! (Or should I say Whoopi?)

You got that right! No surprise about airhead Sara Haines. But I wonder why Sunny wasn't mentioned? We know she is shoe in so why would they be trying to figure out Raven and CCB?

Do they need six again??? (Whoopi, airhead Sara, Joy, Sunny, Paula and Raven or CCB???) We know how well that six worked this season!

So did Whoopi promise the producers she'd "mentor" and "champion" Raven like she used to with Sherri? Because Whoopi has been trying to make Raven seem much more relevant and smart than she projects on the show. It's annoying. If Raven wants to secure her spot for next season she has bring something to the panel that's relateable.

And really no love lost between Whoopi and Paula, but it seems to be all coming from Whoopi. Don't know how Paula deals with the digs and dismissiveness.

Glad to see Sarah join the panel but want Sunni as well. Since she's already on the ABC payroll maybe they figure they don't need her there full time?

Cant believe Whoopi continues to get paid an exorbanant amount for a show and job she puts no effort in.

Continues to boggle the mind she's never called to task on ANYTHING.

Any time Whoopi is called out she immediately portrays herself as the victim.  I have no doubt if ABC really came down hard on her she would spin it as her being the wronged party.  What was it  that happened a few months back and allegedly Whoopi was calling herself 12 yrs a slave or something like that?

There are still Whoopi fans out there and if Whoopi was publically chastised by ABC I'm sure there would be some sort of outcry from them.

It's a trend to be a victim to garner support. ..i.e., Con-man Donald.  Whoops needs to move the fuck on and take giggly, stupid Raven and one-note CCB  with her.  I'm so over those IDJITS.

If that MSN link is true then ABC is rewarding Miss Whoopi with too much money for unprofessional and rude behavior. A pay cut or to be fired is what she deserves. I hate that Joy isn't the moderator for this show.

I guess everybody read that news about Whoopi and couldn't bear to watch today's show? Lionel Ritchie was a great guest. I'm not sure I can find the enthusiasm to write much else. Just can't believe we'll have to endure another Year of Whoopi. Barbara needs to come back and make her life unbearable again.

I don't know how many of you are familiar with Bookbub, but, if you download it, you're sent an e-mail everyday with offers of cheap or free books for your kindle (sorry to go OT!). Anyway, I just read an e-mail offering me a Terry McMillian book for $2.99.  After watching her yesterday -No Thanks!

I can't believe they didn't have Lionel sing (other than that acapella sing along with the audience).  Maybe he told them he didn't want to perform, but it was disappointing.

I have never and would never read her books now because I would remember how angry and arrogant she is. $2.99 is even too much anyway! lol

I don't know. I remember how she was taken to task over her angry defense of Bill Cosby; she got a LOT of backlash, and when Dan Abrams came on the show to "splain' to her like she was a child, she acted like one, acted like this was ALL NEWS to her and sort of back tracked her defense of Cosby.

That said, yeah, she has her fans. I used to be one. Heck, I just watched Soapdish a couple of weeks ago and still weep. Whatever happened to that Whoopi?

It really pisses me off that they throw Michelle off the show.  How do these producers decide who goes?  Personally, I find Raven to be useless and Whoopie to be past her expiration date.  And thinking that she hates doing the show, why did she re-sign for another year?

Sacrifices must be made. LOL Whoopi is ten times worse than Barbara. At least Barbara actually created this show rather than leeched onto it, and came to the table prepared, and she never screeched and shouted at people like a complete fool.

Btw, was it today or yesterday that Paula was listing the most powerful women and how hated they are, and then she had the gall to ask why women can’t be powerful without being cruel? That’s assuming her aspersions on those women are fact. Maybe the better question to ask (if she were really a journalist...) is why are powerful women perceived as evil incarnate?

I thought I'd outlast Whoopi. With her staying and hearing they got rid of Michelle for being Jewish and speaking about being Jewish, I think they finally got rid of me. It's such a dumb show now anyway. Nothing really thought provoking. Just Whoopi the bully and a stupid panel full of drivel and sales. I was so happy Joy came back. Not even she can save this mess. They just can't get it right. I was a diehard but this show can kiss my ass. Hopefully, I can truly break this damned habit during the hiatus. :)

Personally, I'd like to see Meredith come back to moderate (even thought there's no way that's going to happen). I think she was best moderator the show ever had (in fact, I feel like things really started going to go down hill after she left the show - probably because they then started having a rotating door of co-hosts)

They clearly don't base it on internet message boards, snarky wanna-be Rona Barretts in industry publications, or news article troll commentary. There's probably a half-million-dollar-salaried Vice President of Audience Research with a staff of dozens who interview audience members.as they enter/exit the studio....

She may not excel at this gig, but Whoopi is still one of the Most Famous Women in the USA.  That counts for something.

If you spent even 10 minutes watching her now-cancelled show, you may have noticed that she's moved past her prime.  Her show was unwatchable, mostly due to the hostess and topic/guest selection. Even when she was saddled with a roster panel of D-listers in the last half-year of the show, it was kinda sad.  Part of me thought she really didn't care all that much.  Her life has new priorities, perhaps?

Now that Savannah Guthrie is skipping Rio, NBC is likely to use Meredith even more for their Olympics Coverage.

I agree and I guess Joy is next for being Italian if this is true and what about Candace and Paula who never let us forget about "being a Christian.."

The whole thing about Michelle being fired because of her Jewish background makes no sense because Joy talks about being married to a Jewish man all the time and that her ex husband was also Jewish.

I like Sara and I wouldn't mind her on the panel full time. I could even tolerate Jedi, although she seems to be trying to be the View eye candy at times. It could be worse. We could end up with that squeaky voiced blonde Trump supporting nitwit that appears on CNN every other day.

I'm guilty of just listening to a rumor this time about Michelle. Even without the Jewish remarks about Michelle  being true, I still thought I'd outlast Whoopi and maybe see The View and actually like it. But now Whoopi stays and the rest of the panel is still not clicking with that damned revolving door. There is zero chemistry and they never let any form. Trying to just fill a demographic, having people last a few months along with a rotating parade of hired people makes this show not work. Especially because Whoopi is a pushy know-it-all no matter who is there.

Anyone hear Whoopi the other day? She said "welcome to the View, y'all" 5 or 6 times, so she actually increased it. She's so obstinate.

Let's not forget Roman Polanski is a celebrity. So of course Whoopi will defend him.

And I totally agree the Sanford rapist should be referred to as the rapist, not the swimmer.

Whoopie has a strange perspective when it comes to the power dynamics between men and women..I don't know if it is misogyny or if  she is a product of her time, having to deal with racism more than sexism...She is an enigma to me..However, she is such a  pompous bitch..I don't really care to understand her anymore...I love Joy's perspective on women's issues..I love to hear how it was like not to long ago in this country, when women needed their husbands' permission for birth control and bank accounts..it shows you at heart, that  the oppression of women is not just a third world thing, it is truly a part of the human experience...

As usual, after "taking the time to gather the facts", THEY still didn't get the story right.  Brock didn't admit to what he did & his "prior behaviour" was not examined.  NONE of those ladies mentioned that they read the letter the victim wrote (I did & it was heart-breaking).  Misinformation, muddy waters, conflation .... that's what THE VIEW is good at.  I'm this far from packing it in with this show.  Even Joy wasn't informed of the FACTS!!   Then, before they were finished with the topic, they mixed at least two other subjects into the conversation.  How bat-shit crazy is this show???

What an odd ending today. They just sort of sat around saying, wow, nice show, happy for the woman who won the Home Depot prize.  So and so was a nice guest.  Like they had absolutely nothing to say but still had some time to kill so they filled three minutes with bland musings.

I usually don't make it all the way to the end of this show ... I almost always I drift back to the news or a cooking show.  But I saw the other day how they tried to end the show early and everyone was like, oh wait ... we still have some time.  Is this screwing up the timing of the end of the show becoming a regular occurrence?  It's very sloppy.  I don't blame the panel (or even Whoopi, whom I love to blame for everything).  This is on the producers and director or whoever is managing the show.  It's really unprofessional.

I mean, on the rare times I am actually willing to spend a whole hour of my life watching this show, the least they could do is make the show a whole hour long
