It reminds me of Roseanne, when the titular character and Jackie were arguing about a band I'm blanking on; Jackie couldn't believe Roseanne's insistence the guy it was named after wasn't the lead singer, and asked why the band wasn't named after the lead singer.  An exasperated Roseanne said, "Because [guitarist]'s mom let them practice in her garage!"

If I remember correctly that was also true of the Dave Clark Five, their lead singer wasn't Dave Clark (I think Clark was the drummer?).

I already read an AP story incorrectly identifying Geils as the band lead singer on their hits when it was Peter Wolf.  I always liked the video for Freeze Frame.

RIP Mr. Geils.

Now that is funny.  Yes, Peter Wolf was the real star of that band.

Peter Wolf was once married to Faye Dunaway, so, good for  him.

And Manfred Mann was the keyboardist, his band had two different lead singers, first Paul Jones and then Mike d'Abo.

At 95 (and because Mrs. Mengering did not make a final appearance on her son's final show), I can't say I'm surprised she's no longer with us. However; she was always quite a charming addition those times she did appear AND she always brought a dose of compassion and humanity to the table which were often sorely needed. It sounds as though she had a good full life offcamera, too. RIP, Mrs. Mengering!

His stories about Rick James and Prince on Chappelle Show are still the best.

"He would step across the line, habitually! He's a habitual line stepper!"

"Now Darkness, the tables have turned!"

"In your face Charlie Murphy."

German cinematographer Michael Ballhaus dies at 81

Soooooo many great films in his credits(Goodfellas, Broadcast News, Last Temptation of Christ) but The Fabulous Baker Boys is the one burned forever in my brain:

I just read that today is David Letterman's 70th birthday, so his mom died the day before his birthday. :(

May we all be so lucky to have our mothers for 69+ years of our lives.

Unfortunately I didn't even get 1/2 that.

I wasn't a Letterman fan, but the few times I did see his mother on tv, she was adorable & charming.  And yes, I remember her at the Olympics - what a hoot!

I still wouldn't wish on anyone to lose their mother before their birthday....well maybe I wouldn't care if it had happened the Orange Psychopath in the White House or the Old White Wrinkled Dick (tm John Oliver) in Congresss.

I did not know Charlie had leukemia, but I did notice he did not look healthy his last few public appearances. (I would make a "Bombed out and depleted" joke, but that would be in poor taste.) Glad he got his moment in the sun on The Chappelle Show. R.I.P.

I hope Charlie and Prince are having a rematch right now.

Or at least having pancakes!

I never watched The Chappelle show during its heyday except for two times.  You got it, when Charlie Murphy told his true Hollywood stories of Prince and Rick James.   Even just thinking about these two episodes has me giggling uncontrollably.

RIP Charlie.

I'd forgotten that he was so much younger than Liz. Sorry to hear this.

He looked older then 39 when they got married. Maybe it was the frosted hair?

Maybe it's because he was 49.  :)

That article was wrong. If he had been 49 when they married he would have been 74 when he died. He was born in 1952.

They met in rehab.   Addiction ages you.   Nevertheless, he seemed a decent enough guy.   RIP Mr. Fortensky.

That's true about addiction. I didn't mean to sound rude or snotty when I said he looked older than his age. I apologize to anyone who took it that way.  Today seems to be my day for unintentionally pissing people off.

Jaded, I wasn't offended, I was just pointing out why you might have thought he was older than he was.   An error anyone could make.

I didn't think you were. Apparently someone else was miffed with me though.

Maybe not a celebrity, but perhaps a modern-day saint. Robert W Taylor, early computer specialist. Worked on the computer network, GUI, mouse, and Microsoft Word. This man has basically shaped my life for the last 20-odd years. Where he is now, the computers never crash, the ping is negative, and all those ideas that are good in theory actually work.

He wasn't a TV star, but there was a lot of media publicity surrounding him as a player for the New England Patriots turn convicted murderer...

Aaron Hernadez committed suicide

This confuses me, I can't imagine what happened to make him do this. He was just found not guilty of a murder the other day, why would he commit suicide after being found not guilty? You would think that would give him hope about his next retrial.

There was no hope getting off that one.  Too much video evidence.

But I didn't know that you can get your murder conviction vacated if you die during the appeals process, because - wahh wahh - you're not alive to testify.  BS!

Apparently it's a Massachusetts state law.

So you'd rather they kept his corpse locked up indefinitely?

No, they've vacated his murder conviction because he was in the process of appealing when he died.

I know that.  I was talking to @roamyn, who was bemoaning the fact that it was vacated merely because he died during the appeal.  Vacating the conviction make sense because the entire appeal is now moot, and because it's also ridiculous to have a dead man's body languishing in prison.

Tell that to the murder victim's family.

And I'm now seeing reports that with his convictions vacated, the Patriots now owe all of his back pay and bonuses to the estate.  And the victim's family may sue the Patriots to keep that from happening.

OK, I'll tell it to the murder victim's family:  The man who killed your loved one is dead.  What more do you want?  Do you want someone else to take his place in prison and during the appeals process just so you can have closure if the appeal fails?  What do you want to happen if it does?
