If they are paying all the required  taxes on their income from the show, this will include the self-employment tax, and that is the tax required to be eligible for Social Security and Medicare.   This assumes that the Browns are thinking ahead to retirement.

We have self-employment taxes in Canada too, but with brainless business plans it is hard to imagine them making much money so the resulting SS future payments will be reduced, especially if they start collecting at 62.  Adding 35 years of $0 earnings to the ~10 yrs of TLC cash probably doesn't add up to much.  And I imagine these grifters let Janelle or another friend like "Brian" to do their taxes quite creatively.

I helped a friend with this a few years ago. You need a minimum of 10 years; 4 credits available per year, 40 credits required. The show's been on for 10 years so if they've done what they should Christine would be OK.

That's a big IF, but completely accurate.

I would bet Meri's not sharing, and not helping Christine at all.  Meri's walls are up.  She's only happy doing her traveling pants show, and having her butt-kisser fans around. The family was over her ages ago, and from what I've watched, who can blame them?

She'd qualify for minimal amounts with only 10 years of work. The average retiree gets $1,422/mo, but that is after working 35 years; she'd be lucky to get $900 unless she plans to work another 25 years.

I also wonder if she factors in all of the traveling and trips she makes on behalf of LuLaNo.  It has to be expensive and I can't believe they are footing the bill for all of these "business trips." etc.  It just blows my mind how these people end up with these thieving companies.  I had a coworker who would brag about the big bucks she was making selling a MLM called It Works.  It was a bunch of supplements and wraps.  The idiot would place orders for hundreds of dollars and then get back a very small percentage of that on commission.  She thought she was making money!!!  Unfreakingbelievable!!!  I was like, if you just didn't order the stupid crap, you'd have 100% of your money and time without the aggravation!!  But you couldn't tell her a thing.  She was always talking about her big checks!!  Meri is probably the same way.  I'm sure she is not factoring in any costs at all and has no idea what the difference is in net and gross income.  Some people just deserve what they get.

Yup.  I had a friend who would go to one of the local casinos, drop about $500 in a few hours,  hit a $100 jackpot, and convince herself she had "won" and was "lucky."

She wasn't amused when  I pissed in her cornflakes and told her, "But you put in $500, got back $100, so you're still out $400."

This logic, of course, went right over her head.

Start her own clothing line?

Even before LLR came along, Meri (and the other wives) has absolutely zero fashion sense.

I giggle every time I see one of them wearing an ensemble that includes a halter top or a camisole over a turtleneck.

Meri must have heard the rumblings about the financial situation with LLR when she enlisted Christine, Mykelti and Audge (possibly Maddie was onboard before irrefutable evidence was in).

The fact that she brought them into the fold knowing the corporation was on shaky ground says a lot about her.  Either she knew and was so eager to boost her own position in the upper echelon by increasing her downline that she onboarded them anyhow OR she blindly refused to believe that she had made a bad choice in joining the company in the first place.  We all know that Meri adamantly refuses to admit she could ever be wrong about anything.

It was interesting to me that Audge announced last week that she will be attending the 2019 LLR cruise in March.  In order to "cruise qualify" in 2018, the criteria was that a rep. had to sell $12,000. per month for 6 months over an 8 month period.  I find it hard to believe that Audge, even with her degree in marketing or merchandising, managed to hang enough of those rags on her contemporaries to qualify.  Possibly now with so many bailing out of the good ship LLR, they have either relaxed the standard for the number of sales or ultra-eager neophytes are allowed to attend if they pay their own fare on the cruise. In any case, cruise attendees must pay their own transportation to and from the point of departure as well as all expenses for a partner they may wish to bring along.

I wonder if ESA's are allowed onboard ship?

At one point, I was doing some light research into selling Mary Kay (not a serious "seller," but a few friends and I like a few of their products, so I was basically going to sign up just to get the discount).

A very kind person sent me a message with a link to some underground MK forum where disgruntled previous reps disclosed all the dirt on being a rep.

It sounded like the MK strategies are on a par with LLR...except with MK, they dangle the pink Cadillac as the big reward (perusing that underground forum, I learned that while a rep may get the pink Caddy, should said rep fail to meet her quota, the pink Caddy is taken away).

I also found out that MK reps (like LLR reps) had thousands of dollars of "inventory" they were pretty much coerced into buying so they could be "successful."  There were reps in there with every available space in their houses and garages loaded with MK products they couldn't sell.

Crazy how people (literally) buy into these schemes and try to strong arm friends/family into signing up, even when they should be aware it's nothing but a pipe dream.  Misery (Meri) loves company, apparently.

Well, shoot Meri a message on her IG and ask for suggestions.

I'm fairly certain she would suggest that dreadful leopard print duster above or perhaps even a super cool camouflage jacket.

One of my relatives gets under 300/mo.  He only worked 10 years under SS, and that was in the 60's and 70's.  He was civil service the rest of his work years, and the old system didn't pay into SS.  He gets a pension from that.

There's an article in my local paper today:  "Washington AG sues LuLaRoe as 'pyramid scheme.' "  Ha, we all have known that on this forum since dear Meri started selling it!

While not as heinous a look as Meri's, I do see the (easily recognizable) leggings on people in my area.  In most cases, however, they are worn with long tops, sometimes down to the knee, in solid colors. They are still hideous but at least you don't see that much of them.

^^ What @Kohola3 said.

I see the leggings (at least the patterns are so atrocious that I assume they're LLR), but I never have had the visual assault of an entire outfit consisting of that mismatched ill-fitting crap.

I wouldn't even remotely consider wearing those skintight atrocities on my death bed.

And the fact that those perpetually fashion challenged Brown women endorse and promote them makes it even worse.  Ugh.

I wonder why Meri was giving a shout out/hashtag to the Tara bakeware line.  It looks like it's available on one of the home shopping channels, so I'm trying to figure out what benefit she would gain by promoting the brand.

Maybe she's just fishing for freebies?

Ha ha ha!!! Absolutely. They've long ago given up their "modesty" dressing (long sleeve, high necked top with a "too revealing" top over it) but they still look like crap.

Anyone else notice that they NEVER wore earrings (I'm guessing pierced ears is not line with the AUB?) but once Robyn started her joolry business everybody pierced their ears and started wearing earrings? (Kootie's rules suddenly "allowed" it, would be my guess...it's quite clear they've dropped the AUB and now follow the rules Kody randomly invents for the Church of the Almighty Dollar.)

It's very amusing to me that Meri was the first to jump into selling clothing...I've always thought her "style" was the worst of the 4! Think back to the commitment ceremony bullshit...nobody looked great, Christine looked quite silly in her weird medieval fantasy princess dress...but at least they had dresses that FIT! Meri shows up in a dress that's about 3 sizes too small and accentuates her tummy pooch. I was flabbergasted by the dress Meri chose.

LLR's stupid recommendations of combining prints has made Meri even worse. Almost every episode she is wearing stripes with floral prints. It's ugly AF Meri, knock it off. You're hurting my eyes.

If any business told me to max out a credit card to buy their shit, I'd tell them to piss up a rope.  That is a huge red flag.

Meri treats customers rudely, has NO fashion sense, and still cons sheeple into giving her money.  Why would anyone pay her for these hideous pieces of schmatta, when they can get an equivalent for less than half of those LLN inflated prices?

I think Robyn thought MSWC would do well.  Janelle was right it was just going to be a hobby business.  Was never going to make much money.    What was sad about the situation is despite it not making much money, she expected Meri to do all the inventory and packaging and invoicing and mailing.  Basically wanted someone to do most of the physical work.  I think everyone knew that they wouldn't see any money from Robyn's venture and definitely nothing from Meri.  But they all depended on Janelle to bring home a big paycheck each week.  Janelle didn't get much from her paycheck.  I think she got super depressed and panicky when Robyn and her three kids came along, knowing they were going to have to support 4 more people, with no additional money coming in and no prospect of any coming in.  Robyn never intended to work at a job.

Robyn must be doing something right because she’s living/renting a 7 bedroom 7 bathroom mansion in Flagstaff (I would never give out the address.)

I was wondering that at first, but Jackie talks about Kristie on her batman blog and she certainly wouldn't help out Meri in any way.  "Sam" also has a link to Kristie's twitter account where she talks about "Sam" WAY back when and makes snide/hurt comments after she finds out he's a she.

It's a good idea for many reasons--I hate the idea of planned social interaction when looking for stuff online. Don't tell me when/where I can shop, give me the choice where I can do so without any social interaction required. Even friends who have small businesses and sales I'm like, nope! I'm on my schedule, not yours.

I'm surprised it took her so long to do this. She seems to the the one Brown who's doing well in her business, as much as I dislike her, gotta give her credit for that.

Come ON, you canNOT just blindly grab four or five items out of your closet, wear them all at the same time and think that you're gonna strut out of the house looking like the bomb (more like "you're bombed").  In the photo of the 8 women, only one (second from right) looks like she didn't just roll out of bed after a weekend bender and throw on whatever rags she could reach from the dirty laundry under the bed.  And I sit gobsmacked at the heading - "Is matching things up a chore?"  It's like the crazier and stupider you look leaving the house, the better?  I don't know.  I am sooooo looking forward to a future 10-part Netflix documentary called "The Sinking of LuLaRoe."  Sign me all up for that.
