S04.E03: Harold & Armani

Recommended Posts

Pretty obvious that it was Tamila. She was very unlikeable. Harold wasn't much better, I think he would have been more receptive if Armani were really Babay; even if Nev and Angel tried to push that it was really just the lying.

I have to give them props though, for making Armani a janitor. At least it wasn't the typical model or music producer lie!

I did like Angel a lot, she was probably my favorite guest host so far. Some of her reaction faces were hilarious.

Cosign all the Angel love. Her skepticism is what I feel like is a normal reaction to the catfishing; Nev's wide eyed hopefulness is always kind of annoying/endearing. They made a good team.

Tamila is dealing with some serious self loathing with the light skinned/dark skinned thing. Sad that she reached for the "He doesn't like dark skinned girls" reasoning before "He doesn't like that I lied for four years."

I loved every time Nev awkwardly stumbled through the name "Babay Got Em Mad."

There were no winners here.  Harold was a jerk when he admitted that he'd be okay with the prettier girl catfishing him but not Tamila because she wasn't as cute.  I was glad that Angel tore into him for that.  He was no prize himself.

I won't say much about Tamila because I've seen tons of girls like her before.  They're usually in inclusion classes and have an IEP for emotional/behavioral problems. I could absolutely see that she wasn't all there.

No surprise that Harold didn't like Tamila's looks, that's pretty much par for the course on this show. I know it makes him seem like a jerk, but he spent a lot of time thinking she looked a certain way, expecting him to transfer those feelings to what is essentially a stranger isn't realistic. Plus, that whole offer of sex thing was really tacky, when a guy turns down a blow job, that is a pretty strong indicator of dislike LOL

I like Charlemagne better than Angel Haze, but Angel Haze is the co host of Nev's new show Truce, so I guess they're pushing her.

I like Angel as a co-host.  But I also like Charlemagne better.

Tamila probably could have came away with at least a friendship if she wouldn't have acted like a biatch right off the bat. I don't think Babay was all that great in person either, I think Harold would have changed his mind about her.

And how exactly did Tamila spelled her son's name?? They pronounced it like Drew but the small snippets we saw of the name looked nothing like that.

the first girl that came out was babay?....lol... wow she looked NOTHING like the pictures... i didnt even know that was her...

Yea Harold didnt like her either from his reaction when she came out,

i think the whole "he dont like me cuz im dark" was just deflecting from the obvious... him not liking her had nothing to do with her skin color. She looked nothing like the girl in the pic.

Can't blame Harold, he's a young guy, young guys want pretty lil things...

It was something like "Jhru."  Sort of a soft, squishy D/J sound at the beginning.  Between that, "Baybay," and the trio on Truce (Avandi, Briyonza, and Chaquita), I almost rolled my eyes out of my head.  That's some creative naming right there.

Poor kid....he'll be spending a life time of having to tell everyone how to pronounce his name.... lol

I am glad for once, they did not film the sappy 6 weeks follow-up - where everyone supposedly has learned their lesson, the all so contrived happily ever after, blah, blah, blah.

I am not at all surprise that Tamila continued to contact Harold and that he has never responded.

You know, I'm very torn on Tamila. On the one hand, I was wondering what the hell was wrong with her. Like, I didn't know if she was slow or there was some outside source of impairment because she was ridiculous. On the other hand, she told no lies about Harold potentially be okay with the lie if Babay was Armani instead of her. His silence at her statement spoke volumes, and for that I consider Harold to be an asshole. Colorism is an issue among all POC communities, which ties into the notion of whiteness being the standard of beauty (Not going to get into it. That's a different topic on a different forum on a different day).

That being said, that girl was ridiculous, a few sandwiches short of a picnic. Did she really expect that he would be cool with her giving him head? And for her to ask that of him on television like that? Girl, stop. That's just pathetic.

Also, the story is right. If he weighs less than 202 and is 5'11", he's way too small to play basketball.

Oh I have no doubt that Tamila knew that Harold preferred light skin girls.  I'm willing to bet they had conversations about it.  It's not uncommon for people to ask what the other is into looks wise especially with an online relationship.

Not to be mean but Tamila just wasn't attractive at all, in any way, physically or personality wise. She could barely speak.

Harold was all about looks, but I don't think for one second it was her skin color that bothered him.

We seemed to hear from the off-screen producer quite a bit this episode; did Angel not pay attention to her "how to be Max" briefing?

Re the recap, I hadn't noticed that they failed to blur Tamila's last name, but they mentioned where she was, so finding someone with such an uncommon name wouldn't be that difficult.

I didn't like anyone this show. But, c'mon, you spend four years of your life courting a woman you'd never met at all? No player in him at all. And he wasn't too bright. I will stop here so I don't get too crude... all of them got on my nerves.

I don't consider Harold an asshole.  He's a young guy, and young guys want pretty girls.  Harold probably does like lighter skinned girls.  But if that's what Harold likes, that's what he likes.

I didn't think Tamila was slow at all; I think it was a combination of nervousness, by being on TV and realizing that Harold wasn't into her.

I actually thought Tamila was kind of cute in her own way. She just looked a bit sloppy or something. She may be a little slow and and my heat just ached for her when she "jokingly" offered the bj. Her lack of self- esteem was horrific.

Angel was okay, but to be honest, I miss Max. I thought Charlemagne was offensivly gross at times (his whole "smashing bit" and whatnot).

I grew up in Sauk Village, and work in Kankakee. Tamila was pretty representative of a lot of the low class, low education level in the area. I'm sure going to be keeping an eye out for Babay, which should be easy since I've yet to see anyone walking around with hair color like hers.

I didn't dislike either party really, but I am very curious as to why the episode ended so abruptly. Neither party would agree to appear on camera?

I agree that Harold is young and wanted a young hot woman, and I can't really fault him for that. He might exclusively be in to light girls, that is his right (even though it does rub me the wrong way PERSONALLY, but people are gonna like who they're gonna like), and such as is always the case with this show, it's always awkward to hear people fumble over their true feelings and opinions about the person who deceived them--sometimes yes, they aren't attracted to them because they are fat or whatever. It's hurtful, but it's honest.

Tamila wasn't unattractive at all, but she had no filter, her personality was rude, she had terrible hair and didn't look tidy or well groomed. She looked like she doesn't really care about herself at all, and spends all of her time on the internet being dishonest to guys she thinks she wouldn't have a chance with in real life. I just don't understand why people appear on camera looking like they just rolled out of bed. I mean, why? She couldn't brush her hair and wear clothes that actually fit? If you're trying to impress someone, why not put forth your best effort?

I liked Angel and wouldn't even mind catching her new show with Nev, but I'm ready for Max to come back.

I don't fault these people at all when they don't like what their catfish looks like.  People like what they like and if it's no where near what you thought you were getting then yea it's REALLY disappointing.  Personality only goes so far especially when you've been lying.

I've done a lot of online dating especially when I was younger and cell phones and web cams weren't around yet.  You met someone without knowing what they looked like. I never had any catfish experiences but there were a lot of chat personalities I liked but the appearances did nothing for me.

I don't fault people for liking what they like either, everyone has preferences and very few people are ok with dating someone they are not attracted to. Most people are shallow on some level. And if someone is lying about what they look like, then I definitely don't fault the other person for being mad.

I just thought Harold was an idiot for having a dopey grin about being ok with Armani lying and actually being Babay. I don't think it makes him asshole of the universe or anything to be more attracted to her picture rather than Tamila's; I just think it makes him supremely stupid to be like well, a huge lie is more ok if it is within his specific preferences. And this goes for all the catfish victims who end up being open to dating the catfish or whatever, I don't get being ok with that huge of a lie.

Everyone has pretty much summed up my thoughts above. But I have one question: what was with that bathtub in the middle of the bedroom portion of the hotel room when Nev and Angel were investigating?? I have never seen a hotel room set-up like that.

What are the legal ramifications of using someone else's picture online?  Tamila said she didn't know the girl whose picture she used; I wonder if that's true.  Isn't it possible that she or someone she knows will see the show and tell her someone's using her pictures to lie about who they are?  I'd be pretty pissed if I found out someone was doing that with my pictures.

I mean the picture I use for this site isn't me, but this isn't a dating site and I found this picture on a hair modeling website, maybe that's where Tamila found this picture?

I really liked Angel, I think she was a great co-host.  I knew she was going to be Tamilla as soon as I heard her voice on the phone, it matched up so well with the real picture...  Tamilla and her friend were so shallow and immature when they came out, giggling and talking about how this had happened many times before and Babay served as her decoy.  It was a total joke to them, and Tamilla was so self-righteous about it, not in the least bit apologetic.  I wonder if that long ponytail was an extension?  It certainly wasn't flattering, in the slightest.

I'm glad Harold after this experience has gone out and dated people he's met in person.  Tamilla needs to do the same thing, though also seriously work on her self-esteem and interpersonal skills.  I also don't blame Harold for caring about what she looks like (and we didn't see a picture of any fly dark-skinned girl to gauge his reaction so who knows if that played a part, Tamilla was not a dark-skinned version of Armani) he's young and I take it that despite his sharing those traumatic experiences with her, their relationship wasn't that deep.  I'm sure that Tamilla never shared her lack of confidence and self-esteem with him.  You can't really have told 100% of the truth to someone if you were hiding your own self-loathing behind a fake persona.

I did feel for her due to her insecurity though, like how she was holding her jacket in front of her, I guess to try to hide her size. Made me feel badly for her.

Harold seemed like an idiot generally.

Like Pixel above, I lived in Sauk Village, and worked in Kankakee. 4 hours apart is b.s. It's less than an hour, so that was a b.s. excuse for not meeting for so long.

The towns are approximately 1 hour apart.  I know people who currently live in Sauk Village and work in Kankakee. It's an easy commute. It truly is a bullshit excuse. You could take a Pace bus from Sauk Village to Kankakee even, if you didn't have a car. I myself live 10 miles from Sauk Village and make the drive to Kankakee 5 days a week.

But it's not like we didn't know that was just another excuse anyway.

I noticed that, too! I've seen tubs in the middle of the room in really swanky hotels (a sort of architectural detail), but in a Comfort Inn? Or Hampton Inn, or wherever they stay?! It was so odd!

Angel Haze uses they/them pronouns to refer to themself.

I just read these things and don't actually watch the show, so I have nothing else to contribute, but it was just something that stood out to me while reading.

I believe that Harold was at college and not at his home in Sauk Village. I feel like I saw or read that he was at the Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, which is about four hours to Kankakee give or take.

Yeah, but wasn't this going on for something like 4 years and before he left for college?

Yeah, I thought it was mentioned that he started talking to her in his freshman year of high school. Somewhere in all that I think he said he had a girlfriend so he stopped talking to her, and after that was over he started up again. I don't think we know when he felt comfortable to meet her during the four years of talking or the excuses that she must have thrown at him. I thought Harold said something about her car when he was telling some of the excuses she used, but do not remember exactly what he said.

I noticed that in 'their' Wikipedia entry. It was too consistent to be a typo or two.

Is Angel a lesbian? I didn't pay close attention, but the mention of the pronouns is reminiscent of trans identity because there are no good pronouns for trans people who don't want to identify as any gender. Not that trans and gay are the same. Just wondering what her story is.

They identify as pansexual and agender. They're currently in a relationship with a woman (Ireland Baldwin).

Thanks, Ikki! Alec Baldwin's daughter? And I Just realized I referred to Angel as "her". No disrespect. Just the plural pronouns are awkward to a grammar nazi.

If she lives in your neighborhood but you haven't met her yet and need Catfish's help to do so...YOU'RE GONNA HAVE A BAD TIME.

Fuckin' heard the shit out of that! Or better yet, If she lives in your neighborhood + got only 1 picture + you have yet to meet + need help from Catfish + pretty much know that you being Catfished, BUT hope that the person doing it to you is still HOT anyways THEN that all equals in a BAD time in all caps lock.... I apologize for that huge ass run-on sentence....

None of the participants are winners here.... In concerns of Harold, nothing says a good relationship when the only way you be with a girl is because of her looks.... Good luck there.... LOL.... Don't even get me started on "Armani"/"Babay"/Tamila.... But, I will say I bet somewhere in that delusional mind of hers, she'd thought by wearing those janky ass spanx-like jeans (hell, I bet those are actually jeggings), her line of thinking was like, "If I wore these, I can still get that man even if I look nothing like the picture that I gave him!" I LOL'ed @ seeing "Babay" because that's one of the nicknames I have for my boyfriend.... Shame on me for that.... Whoever it is that has a kid + decides to name their kid "Jrue" got problems.... You might as well call him "Jah Rule" after that irrelevant rapper.... Oh wait, the real Jah Rule might actually try to sue her for that.... Forget that shit....

I am disappointed that Angel Haze didn't turn out to be some girl doing porn....

I am not shocked the very least to see that Tamila try to proposition Harold into a sexual act.... She's desperate.... But, maybe she should could have gotten him by....

Or maybe not....LOL

P.S. I apologize profusely for any grammar mistakes I have made....

What? Why would someone refer to themselves as "they" or "their." She is one person, right? That's awkward. What does that have to do with her sexuality?

It doesn't have to do with their sexuality, it has to do with their gender identity. Using "they" for one person doesn't mean referring to them in the plural, it means referring to them with the singular they, which is something people use all the time. Often people use it because they don't know if they should refer to the person as he or she; in this case it would be because you do know that the person goes by they.

I just can't get into these folks not putting their best face (fake or not) forward when they know a camera crew is coming to ring their bell.

Tamila couldn't get a new ponytail? Something that halfway matched her own hair? If you're gonna rock a Toni Childs length ponytail, it has to match!!

I still feel totally confused by this episode.

Firstly, Babay did not look very much like her photos. Were they just the most flattering angles or something? So odd.

And who was Deshyla? Was that really Tamila?

And who was the dude on Harold's team who had allegedly dated Armani? Was this yet another person that Tamila catfished? Had this dude also never met her in person, but just didn't want to admit that?
