Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

This does not surprise me.  The gave a little girl (don't remember which one) a diaper in a brown paper bag for a birthday present.  Not a package of diapers--a diaper.  I don't feet that gifts need to be expensive, but they do need to show some thought to show you care about the person.  A child's toy for a teen is not showing any thought.  For example, I would appreciate if someone gave me some Burts Bees lip gloss.  It would show that they know what I like, and that they thought  to give me an appropriate gift.  To me, the giving WITH THOUGHT is the most important, not the cost.

(I'm stretching here, but maybe Tim collects toy airplanes???)

Every year we always make a list of things we want. My husband always needs deep instruction but I seem to find things to surprise him all the time. He loves Doctor Strange, I got him an old school Doctor Strange tee-shirt. My son mentioned pajama pants and money (kids). I knew he needed a new light weight jacket and surprised him with one. I also know the card with the money had to have a cat on it and come FROM the cat.

You don't need tons of money and things don't have to be extravagant. I'm over the moon with my Bill Mumy autobiography (Lost in Space). My husband knows I adore the guy and being a geek himself,  knew that it would mean a lot to me.

Do the gifts she gives mean a lot to the receiver? Or is it a "oh that is nice", thanks for the el cheapo lotion. Instead of that stupid pillow she gave Kaylee and Jonathan, why not a pretty framed picture from their wedding? And for Nurie and Nathan a framed family picture with the little ones? IDK, something a bit more personal that appears to have some thought put into it.

Oh please. JillPM does not have time to actually put any thought in gifts for her children.

Scrolling through I thought Jill had posted a picture of the couples twice.   those girls and their husbands are pretty interchangeable.

Nothing wrong with giving a grown man a toy for Christmas.   I gave hubby a plush hippopotamus for Christmas.   Mostly because we sing that song ALL season long.   So this year he got one.  But again, THOUGHT.

I celebrate Christmas with my BFF’s family (the meal and the gift exchange) and they always take photos of each person opening their gift so that doesn’t seem odd to me. It’s quite possible to get someone a thoughtful gift without spending a lot of money, but Jill seems like the type to make everyone’s present all about HER and what a great Mom she is than the recipient.

The little ones do seem happy with their gifts.

Janessa does look cute with that toy violin. It is a shame she will never be allowed to pursue a musical career if she so wanted to.

A real one, not part of the R show.

Janessa playing her violin wasn't much worse than the family band.

Other than Timcel's plane, the only other gift that matched its new owner was Sam and the drill/bits.

Yeah my family does this too. Even the dogs get their pictures taken when their gifts are opened. LOL

What I find odd is taking everyone's picture but one like they've done with David. Did they skip him intentionally? Did he not want his picture taken? Did they just forget he was there because his personality is the equivalent of a beige wall and they're all too self-absorbed to make sure he's included?

Jinger decamped the IFB/Gothard strictures of her upbringing which are reasonably close to Jill's teaching.  Jinger is now aligned with her husband Jeremy's reformed/Calvinist theology.  This is anathema to Jill.

I think that Jill thinks that Jinger's "becoming free" meant dissing Jesus. Jill is too self-centered to know anything about Jeremy's beliefs. She's an either/or person, and I am sure that means that Jill thinks Jinger bounced.

It's quite possible that Jill is so shallow she stopped at the title of the book.

I think that's absolutely what happened. She's not a deep thinker.

Wasn't Jinger the one who's wedding invite Jill shared without permission? And then was never invited to another Duggar wedding? Could be her passive aggressive way of "getting back at" Jinger.

Jill went to the wedding, IIRC. Her beef wouldn't be with Jinger, but with the Duggars who subsequently married and didn't invite the Rods.

Jill still has that picture of JB in her bedroom, so she has no beef there. I mean, how creepy is that?

How did I not know this? Or did I know it and just block it from my mind because I didn't want to consider the meaning of it?

But.....Nurie is married to Nathan who is the brother of the woman married to the felon Duggar....unless Jill got the vibe that JB is currently less than happy with Jinger so Jill is inserting herself and picking a side in the Duggar religion war even though literally no one cares what she thinks.

This is kind of exciting, though....the Duggars vs. The Rods?  It's like the fundie version of Survivor.  I would pay (very little) money to watch a meeting of the minds between Jill and Jinger.

The pic of david and jb is actually shown on the wall beside Jill in the pic of her posing with her gifts posted above. 😂

It is a cropped photo - the rod family was standing behind the duggars at a Duggar book signing. JB is seated at a table and David was standing behind him.

The thing is, with a store like 5 below, there simply is no excuse for being so terrible with gifts. You could spend $15 on each child and still get some very nice things. You could definitely do all of your Christmas shopping at that one store. It's a shame that JillR is so careless with her "blessings".

That would mean she actually cared. I can see her just grabbing things off the shelf all willy nilly.
