Small Talk: The Prayer Closet

Message added by Scarlett45

This is a reminder that the Politics Policy is still in effect.

I understand with recent current events there may be a desire to discuss political social media posts of those in the Duggar realm- this is not the place for those discussions. If you believe someone has violated forum rules, report them, do not respond or engage.

Political discussion is not allowed in this forum- this includes Small Talk topics. Please stay in the spirit of the policy- I have noticed a tendency for some to follow the letter but not the spirit.

While we understand the frustration (change is never easy), please keep in mind that not everyone feels the same way and that for those members who don't, the ongoing conversation about other forums and chat options can equally be a cause of frustration.

Out of respect for your fellow posters, we kindly ask that you continue any discussion about alternatives via PM or the Technically Speaking: Bugs, Questions, & Suggestions area.

I see there have been some monumental struggles with my Small talk family.  My heart is really with you as you grapple with all of it.  Life isn't easy sometimes.  Maybe never.

I did get back into my sewing room and turned on the machine and did something.  Oddly, I now need all conditions to be perfect.  Nice warm day outside, bright sunlight, etc.   Since where I live doesn't have that much this time of year, my ventures will be limited.

Every day continues to be a struggle.  Son in law is struggling too.  But his path will be different from mine.

Good to hear from you, Lookeyloo.

I hope you know it means a lot to us here in the Covid-closet to get updates, even though life is still so hard.

The only way I can sleep now if I roll myself into a burrito lol. If I can’t move I can sleep.

Gave up all soda/Snapple even diet drinks again. Need to only drink water. Last time lasted 6 months and then went back.

So many of my neighbors got dogs now it’s LOUD all the time. Apartment living sucks.

One of my babies needed to be a burrito, the other was a blanket tosser.

Good on you for giving up the nasty drinks.  It's hard to do.

(Cue spooky X Files theme music: As I was typing "burrito," the host on the show I am listening to said it totally in synch with me.)

@jcbrown I can’t even imagine a livestream memorial service. I’m sorry about the loss of your friend of 40 years. This year has had too much loss ind very little in ways to cope with it or allow us to have closure.

They are odd. First one I "attended" was for a good friend I lost about two years ago. Her (weirdo) husband live-streamed it on Facebook. He even live-streamed taking her body to the mosque to be prepared, which felt pretty inappropriate. Even though I don't think he did the right thing, I was grateful to be able to see the burial.

Since the pandemic, I've "attended" a Zoom memorial and a Facebook live-streamed inurnment for another good friend who died just before Thanksgiving and now this Facebook live-stream for our friend last Saturday. One of the things that felt odd to me about Saturday's service is the pandemic precludes singing so all the music was from Youtube or the like. We had lost touch with our friend John who just died until the pandemic, actually, but have been chatting and/or playing D&D over Zoom every Saturday since last March. I'm glad we at least got that reconnection.

Anyone else absolutely over all of the gushing, melodramatic coverage of Tiger Woods having yet another car accident? Yes, he’s a public figure, yes he’s a good golfer, yes it’s too bad he got hurt...again...but good grief they’re acting like he is a combination of Jesus Christ and Princess Diana. Also, he’s NOT DEAD. Also, not that great a guy. But I have read half a dozen hushed, reverential articles today on multiple news sites that would be over the top if they were eulogies. And he’s NOT DEAD.

Honestly, the way we revere sports figures in this country is seriously messed up.

I agree BUT it’s a relief to be back to nonsense news coverage again!

Can I like this a million times? I live in Vegas and Woods is notorious in industry circles as a major asshole and a shitty tipper. I don't wish badly on the guy, but the media narrative is so annoying.

Sounds like Michael Jordon in my neck of the woods. I has a waitress friend who opened the kitchen for his crowd, cooked for them, allowed them to smoke cigars and then got a $50 tip on an over $2000 bill. She was mad, hurt, upset and felt used. She said she could have done two other tables and made that in a quarter of the time.

I did read an article about the extent of his injuries and yikes, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. It's kind of ironic that being a careless driver, speeding through a dangerous incline, and causing his own accident might end his career, after all of the effort he's put into making a comeback. Slow down, people! And use your blinkers, while I'm on the subject of pet peeves, lol.

I felt the same way when Kobe died. The way he died was terrible, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. But everyone was acting like Jesus had died, and I just wanted to scream into the internet, "Do you mean Kobe the Rapist?"

Tiger's injuries sound absolutely horrific, and I hope he gets better because, again, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. But dude's had issues for a long time. Whenever I think of Tiger, I still think about his wife going after him with the golf clubs. (Though I guess now people say that wasn't what it looked like?)

If I'm being honest, that was the first time I liked her! She just seemed like such a bland, blonde housewife who overlooked all of his indiscretions until that story. I was like "go on with your bad self, Elin" when I read that. Which is probably not the right reaction to have, but here we are.

Count me annoyed at the Tiger Woods coverage. They said there was no evidence of braking, so I wonder if he was on his phone or something.  His injuries are really horrible. I wonder if he'll be able to come back from this. I'm glad his kids weren't with him.

IIRC, she’d had it up past here with his numerous mistresses (his rep at the time was that he was this devoted husband and father when actually he was a very, very busy guy) and there was one text too many. She snapped and went after his car with a golf club while he drove away into his first car wreck.

I have to say I was impressed...with her.

Yeah I saw them trying to spin it afterward to say she was trying to help him escape the car with the golf club and, um, that just doesn't sound right. Her losing her shit and going after him with the golf club sounds much more realistic. As a former English major, I also have to give her points for the rich symbolism and irony of weaponizing the golf club against the golfer.

Yeah his injuries do sound awful. My aunt sustained multiple fractures in her legs in a head-on collision some years ago. (My uncle was killed in the same wreck.) As bad as her injuries were, she had fewer fractures than Tiger. She's able to walk pretty well with a cane now, which still astonishes me. It's amazing what they can do with medicine now, but it does seem like he has a long recovery ahead of him. It took her about a year to progress from wheelchair to walker to cane to more limited use of the cane.

Although to be fair it is a horrible, dangerous piece of road there and he is far from the only person to have a bad crash there.   There is even an emergency off ramp for trucks.

Call me cynical, but I'm wondering how long before more comes out.  And sorry, even if it's "just" a case of reckless driving, the excuses being made are ridiculous.  "It's a notoriously dangerous road/corner, etc."  He should be held accountable.  Just like Diana, he's not a saint.

There’s a Pet Peeves forum????

If you go  to Beyond TV Shows Everything Else you should find it there.  Maybe.  I'm pretty useless at this stuff and generally stumble across things.

Here's a link to a recent post (maybe??).

A sound machine has saved our sleeping lives. We use the kind that can make noise 24/7 (so it won’t turn off in the middle of the night) and we like the white noise waterfall sound. It saves us from barking dogs, loud trucks in the alley, and all the other neighborhood noises living close to people brings. It is invaluable on vacations with all the hotel noises. I highly suggest getting one. I think target, a,axon and Walmart all have some. Warning...it is addicting. Can’t sleep without it now.

This is true.  I even had to use a noise app on my phone when I was traveling and didn't have my noise machine. 😂

This is the one I use if anyone wants to try it.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mizusoft.relaxandsleep

You can use it even when you don't have WiFi once you download it.

I also bought a pretty cheap one few months ago.  I have few outside noises that bother me, but I was finding it very difficult to relax enough to fall asleep.  I was sceptical but it's really helped me.  I still don't sleep the 6 or 7 hours I used to, but it's been very helpful.

That's okay, a,axon doesn't need any more hits/links/promotion/exposure than it already gets.

This is totally what I thought. My main association of Kobe is his rape trial and as a former advocate for rape survivors, my bias is, if it gets to trial, dude is guilty. No, I will never be chosen for a jury for a rape case.

I also think of Tiger's wife going after him with a golf club and was surprised that was not mentioned in any of the articles about his accident but I guess it did not fit with the hagiography.

Yeah I get the impression people have decided to pretend that didn't happen. I actually had to google "Tiger Woods wife golf club" to confirm I wasn't crazy for remembering it that way. [My memory of things, admittedly, can be a little given to being overly impressionistic, but I was positive I wasn't confused about the golf clubs being wielded in a violent fashion. That was way too memorable!]

When Kobe died, people who mentioned the rape in the course of discussing his life were treated like shit on the internet. I was appalled. I was a fairly young teen when that happened, and as someone who was not a basketball fan and was unfamiliar with him beyond that, it was inextricable from him for me.

That is true. And to be fair to the drivers who handle the road responsibly, the sheriff did say most accidents there are due to speeding.

Like many, I saw the stretch of road where the accident happened. I don't know what comes before it, but the section he was on was rather straight, with an ever so slight curve and a gradual decline. Tiger went more than a few yards and was airborne for part of the time.

My guess is he was having some 'fun' in a spanking new car that was loaned to him and possibly distracted by all the luxury 'toys' as well. I do hope for him a speedy recovery and a slew of traffic violation tickets.

I'm with you all, way too much coverage on Tiger once they found out his injuries weren't life threatening. He's a freaking golfer. A golfer who isn't even currently golfing. Few in this world warrant that kind of coverage.

I watched most of the HBO Tiger Woods doc series.  I feel for him in a way because his father was such a jerk and was using him.  However, at some point you are an adult and can try and move past that and not be a jerk yourself.  He didn't.  He thinks he's special and can get away with anything.  Yeah, great golfer, but other than that he's not got much going on.  He's very lucky he's got the money to have the best in doctors and rehab, most don't.

Noise....roofers are replacing my roof. Omg....I brought work to do, but I can’t focus.  I figure the louder the noise, the more it’s costing me:(

Not judging Tiger, but it’s not surprising if he was speeding and not slowing down due to conditions of the road, that he might crash. Sounds like he’ll have a long recovery.

With regard to using noise machines for sleeping.  Living on Air Force bases has rendered us all able to sleep through anything. Planes and helicopters flying and taking off and landing at all hours. It takes a lot to disturb our sleeping. Here come my tiny humans. Time to start class. Have a great day everyone!
