KFC November 20, 2014 Share November 20, 2014 Mods, wasn't sure if it was okay to start a new thread, but I thought it would be fitting to have a discussion devoted to all the expensive homes/clothing we see on the show. TBH I've never been impressed with the BH clothing. Houses? Yes. Clothing? No. LisaV and Aidrene can't resist looking like mall rats, Brandi dresses like an escort, Kim clothes are okish but her hair and makeup are a mess, and Kyle has great taste but no idea how to dress herself and constantly picks out beautiful things that look awful on her. Yolanda usually looks nice and I'll reserve judgement on LisaR. Replying to FozzyBear rom the S5 premiere thread. I guess Countess Luann was right, money can't buy you class, because I whole-heartedly agree that most of the women on RHOBH have an atrocious taste in clothing. Odd, considering they have access to stylists and the finances for the high-end designer threads. I think Camille is the only who pulls off the gaudy LA aesthetic without looking too ridiculous. Like you said, Adrienne and Lisa, well, DO look ridiculous with their reliance on garish satins and chandelier jewelry. That, plus the excessive eyeliner. Brandi's style is that too-short hooker look, which looks equally ridiculous on women 20 years her junior. I associate it with woo girls stumbling down Sunset at 2 a.m. Kyle is always so afraid of looking "fat" that she often drowns herself in those caftans. Kyle wasn't swimming in rayon at the White Party for once, but the nips poking through and the tightness of the cut made it look uncomfortable. Say what you will about the Lemon Lady, but apart from Camille she's the only one whose style seems befitting of their wealth. Well, brittle hair aside, I quite like her sense of style. (And King David's Malibu compound. They were wise not to buy property right on the beach; they're close enough to walk there, but they don't have to deal with the foot traffic of beachgoers passing by their house all the time.) Whenever the HWs travel, Yolo dresses in sweats and sneakers, she actually looks comfortable. And for the formal events, I like that she favors well-tailored, rhinestone-free garments that aren't overly shiny. 8 Link to comment
FozzyBear November 20, 2014 Share November 20, 2014 I loved LisaR's old California style home. West LA does have some sick real estate. It's just such an unbelievably beautiful area to begin with and then when you get into the older parts of the west side that were built up in the 20s and 30s...just outstanding. NYC is my favorite city on earth, but old money LA has house porn like no other. 4 Link to comment
larapu2000 November 21, 2014 Share November 21, 2014 There should be a requirement that the show films at least 1 event at Mohammed's house per season. I like Kyle and Mauricio's house. It seems warm and inviting, unlike a lot of the marble/stone filled homes. It looks spacious but not ridiculously large. I covet Yolanda's refrigerator. 6 Link to comment

FozzyBear November 23, 2014 Share November 23, 2014 I actually think Taylor generally looks nice in a gaudy, new money, social climbing, SoCal trophy wife kind of way. The hair and plastic surgery and super thin body tacky up her look, but I usually thought her clothes were good. 3 Link to comment
FozzyBear November 26, 2014 Share November 26, 2014 (edited) LisaV I love you, but you pay to have all those tacky satin shirts custom made?!?! Oh honey. BH has really good shopping, much of which is perfect for women of a certain...station in life. Just go to Neiman's and ask for a personal shopper. Please, I'm begging you. KFC November 26, 2014 Author Share November 26, 2014 Much as I find the actual clothing tacky and overpriced, I adored that scene with Lisa and the custom shirt woman. It was like watching her reupholster a couch. 5 Link to comment
copacabana November 26, 2014 Share November 26, 2014 Having a dressmaker or shirtmaker is such a luxury. Being able to design what one wants and have it custom fit. Give me that over jewelry any day of the week! But then, of course, Lisa has to muck it up with her signature tackiness -- embroidered Lisas and Vanderpumps ... She just can't help herself, darling. Still that was fun and calling by phone for two or three teas -- I mean, pretty great, right? 3 Link to comment

ryebread February 22, 2015 Share February 22, 2015 Eileen lives in Malibu. I saw nothing wrong with her home. It appears very warm and cozy. I fail to see that Eileen's home is in need of repairs. I am not privy to whether Eileen and Vince are in need of money, but they do own their home, correct? I don't know if they own their home or not but I do know they don't employ a gardener. Fo sho. I wouldn't expect the grounds to be as lush and tidy as Lisa VP's or Yo's, but imo, that house is a mess, inside and out. I've seen healthier looking palm trees at the Miami airport hotel I stayed in last Friday night. If you know a camera crew is coming to your house, spend $45 on a couple flats of flowers and put them in the planters that currently hold what look like 3 dying geraniums. Pull some weeds. If you don't wanna pay someone to do it, that's what ya have boys for. ;-) For some reason she got a really poor house tour edit. http://www.bravotv.com/the-real-housewives-of-beverly-hills/photos/tour-eileen-davidsons-home-and-closet For instance: someone picked out a few pair of ratty looking shoes with really dirty toe marks to photograph, close up. Why?? Did Eileen pick them? Interesting choices if she did. They choose to do a close up of the cherub statue by the cook top with a random ribbon tied haphazardly around it's neck. I know I sound like a nut, but it's just so odd to me that she wouldn't edit these pics. If you're going to tie back your tie-back draperies, tie both sides back. Puddle them neatly. Remove the power cord hanging over the dining room chair and hide the waste baskets with the white plastic bags as liners in the bedroom. The Emmy poster with your name on it? Mat it and hang it straight in something other than a cheap plastic poster frame. Straighten up those candles in the holders, girl. I know I sound obsessive, but I'd be the same way about Brandi's house (and have). I dunno. Something about Eileen's house says 'lived in' but screams "We haven't don't anything inside or out for years." Kadooz to her if she's cool with the overgrown vegetation, dirty shoes, broke down patio furniture, etc. but it seems like the photographers came and Eileen wasn't even home. LOL Good thing it doesn't often rain in southern California. The rain would have no where to go but for the baby trees growing out of the gutters. House is a mess. 3 Link to comment

Many people like the vine covered house look and I think that is what they were/are going for. They do have kids, younger and college aged, running around the house, inside and out and Eileen/Vince may not be overly fussy because of that. I like their home, it felt warm, welcoming and lived in, a house with kids and laughter. When our son was at home, our house was the same way. Then he bought his own home, moved out, got married and I got fussy about our home. Now I watch our Grand daughter 5 days a week and our house is back to having that lived in look! LOL I admit, I love the lived in look more because it means I am enjoying my time with our GD to the fullest! LOL 4 Link to comment

At their house for the reading party, did I spy a stack of white paper plates for the food? I guess I hold my Beverly Hills Hos to higher standards. Wow, it does sound like you're being harsh, but I have to agree. If I was forced to be nice, I would describe it as eclectic. What it is, is an overdone mess. I feel claustrophobic just looking at the pictures. The walls are covered haphazardly, but randomly. I really like a clean simple look, plus I like balance and symmetry. The walls are loaded on eye level, to much higher up, but nothing below. In her bathroom, there are oddly mismatched mirrors over the vanity, and then balanced up high, a Hindu (?) god statue. A large velvet couch with fringe. Big candelabras with cheap looking and even crooked candles. All the wall pictures/decorations look like they came from Home Interiors - which was huge about fifteen years ago. Very inexpensive and distinctive looking. There's also someone's (poor) attempt to copy a Van Gogh sunflowers painting. It really reminds me of a house that an older couple lists for sale. They've lived in it for thirty years, and never updated. No furniture or decoration is ever subtracted, only added. More is more. Old furniture means it's antique. Furniture crammed in every corner, and if there's an uncovered area, cover it in a throw rug. I'm not saying my personal style is great. I have more misses than hits. But I can step back and evaluate when something is not working. I think maybe Eileen's a packrat. Looking at her shoes, I think she still has every shoe she's ever owned. They looked very outdated. Good for her for making use of her things. I just think the disorganization and clutter would give me a nervous breakdown. I can't even imagine the nightmare of cleaning that house. Dusting would take hours, and even attempting to vacuum without rearranging the furniture every time, seems impossible. 7 Link to comment

I agree. Certainly it isn't my taste, but I appreciate that it feels like a real home. Some of the other homes seem more like places to look at rather than places to live. It seems like Eileen has been in this home a while and people collect stuff. Shoot when I was in the Army living in a barracks room, I still manage to collect a lot of crap I had to move when I got an apartment! 5 Link to comment

AnnA February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 (edited) So far, I've had no reason to be critical of Eileen and the jury was still out on my opinion of her. However. I took the time to go through the "tour" of her home and I'm liking her more now. There are quite a few items that I would toss or immediately replace, e.g., the Budda statue, the hood over the stove, the drapes and the velvet sofas and chairs. Rather than focus too much on those items, I noticed she has some really nice antiques. She's also not adverse to having wood in her home. I love wood furniture and think I may have been a termite in a previous life. She has some beautiful antique wood pieces. It's warm and welcoming unlike the stainless steel and white marble we've seen in other HW's homes. It is eclectic and I applaud her for having items that obviously have meaning to her......even if there are too many of them. At least it's not tacky like the Giudice's home. I've seen candid pics of Yo's house(s) with the kids in them and it appears that she allowed messes, etc. But for the camera - whether still or rolling - her house is very, very tidy. Which is how I like my Housewive's houses. I don't like messy. Probably why I can't stand the Brandi/Kim/Kyle storyline. I don't watch these shows to look at messes all the time. That is what it looks like to me, either car dealership or a department store. Plus, she's not Scarlett O'Hara, for heaven's sake. Does her house really need to have a name? Even those great old homes that DO come with a name are not so obvious and pretentious about it, with the signage, etc. Tacky tacky tacky. It always seems to me that the VP/Ts have more money than taste. Now, Yo has a much more beautiful and tasteful home. grisgris February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 Sorry. I don't care for the inside of Eileen's house. Way, way too much going on. The decor would work much better in a restored Victorian mansion. It doesn't go with the Mediterranean exterior. Very Gemini. 7 Link to comment
GreatKazu February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 (edited) Bluishgreen - LOL at your car dealership comment. I never thought of it that way, but now, when I see Lisa's front glass doors, I am going to always remember your comment. Casa Vanderpump aka Casa Nissan. Lura February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 This is a completely personal view, but I think that Eileen's house is atrocious. On the show, we saw the front of it by moonlight, but by daylight it's a different story for me. With that moat outside, it surprises me that Brandi either didn't go down those steps head first or fly through the air and drown. (Wishful thinking?) I don't much care for the inside, either. On first glance, it reminded me of Carlton's house. There's too much "clutter" for me. I really like Eileen so far, but I think that the next time she has a day off, she should have a garage sale. 6 Link to comment

LOL Did I miss something, does Eileen's house have a moat, like Lisa V does in the front of her house? 2 Link to comment
rho February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 I agree that Eileen's house isn't my taste. It looks like she's housing the props from antiques roadshow. I think eclectic is the right word and it's certainly not my cup of tea but I definitely don't recall a moat. Lisa, on the other hand, definitely has a moat, or at the very least, a pond. 3 Link to comment
Avaleigh February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 I'd actually like to see a storyline next season where LisaV is helping Eileen with a makeover for her house. (Or Yolanda if she's up to it. Either one works for me.) Eileen seemed like she liked LisaV's home though so maybe have LisaV offer her suggestions to Eileen to what she can do with the house, have them shop together, and see how receptive Eileen is to letting a bunch of stuff go. The house certainly has lots of potential. 1 Link to comment

msblossom February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 So much criticism toward Eileen's house. I feel a little like defending her and here's why: Her style reminds me of my old roomates from years ago in the 90's. She owned a beautiful home built in the 1920's, lots of wood. She filled it with tons of antiques, Laura Ashley furniture, drapes, etc. she traveled a lot and picked up unique things and clothing from all over the world and U.S. She had a ton of stuff, nice stuff, but a lot of it. She entertained a lot, and being that she was about 15 years older than me I found her and her friends sophisticated and fascinating. The point is, her things and her home really reflected her soul. Me? I'm more like most of you in that I hate clutter. I mean hate it. I don't want my house to have the "lived in" look or the "tired" look from furnishings that went out of style 10/15 years ago and truthfully as I age I get more obssessed with it. I resonate with the clean, crisp style of Yolanda -- and I'm inspired by that aesthetic, but imo, it does lack warmth. 6 Link to comment
talula February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 (edited) Wow, it does sound like you're being harsh, but I have to agree. Do homes give others insight into the personality of the home owners? It's as if Eileen's home is giving us a glimpse into who she is and who she isn't. When entertaining she's no Martha Stewart from what I can see. Nor is her house decor akin to Lisa Vanderpump or Yolanda Foster. Pack-rat is the perfect description of home style...we're definitely looking at 30-years of accumulated home decor. If I knew my home was to be shown on TV and photographed for Bravo I may have changed somethings or even hired a decorator and caterer before hosting an event at my home. I don't think they care what others think of their home, how they live or entertain. It's as if their saying take me the way I am or leave me alone. Little if no preparation was made before the house was photographed. IMO, they know what's important to them and it's not how their house appears. A cluttered look may also reflect on their relationship. The house I disliked the most was Adrienne Maloofhoofs. Edited February 23, 2015 by RealityTVSmack1 7 Link to comment
Lastwaltz February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 (edited) As the Queen of Clutter with a house full of over 30 years of possessions, including some from my late parents I have yet to deal with, I love Eileen's house vibe. I wish my clutter looked as good as hers, lol. I'll have to think about what this says about my relationship with my husband who, thankfully, is as much or more of a packrat than me : ) Edited February 23, 2015 by Lastwaltz 3 Link to comment
talula February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 (edited) There are some lovely aspects to Castle Vanderpump, like the closets and the outdoor spaces, but the glass enclosure is tacky and detracts from the property IMO-- is it a home or a car dealership? That is what it looks like to me, either car dealership or a department store. Plus, she's not Scarlett O'Hara, for heaven's sake. Does her house really need to have a name? Even those great old homes that DO come with a name are not so obvious and pretentious about it, with the signage, etc. Tacky tacky tacky. It always seems to me that the VP/Ts have more money than taste. Now, Yo has a much more beautiful and tasteful home. I agree that it looks pristine, but the feeling of the home is so airy and comfortable without the faux opulence and girly splendor of VR. Hehehe in England all their castles have names. Even Downton Abby...though made up for the series. LisaP may have done it as a tradition. I always thought the entry way looked like a hotel lobby, lol. Avaleigh February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 I actually kind of like that they've named their house. I just don't see the need for all of the signs. The mat at the front is especially odd IMO and makes it seem like some sort of business either a spa or a boutique hotel. In the pic above I'm puzzled by the velvet rope. What the heck is that there for? The house I disliked the most was Adrienne Maloofhoofs. I thought Adrienne's house was extra tacky. It's hard to believe sometimes that she was born with the silver spoon because she had the new money, I-just-got-paid-look down pat. 2 Link to comment
