I can't justify the delusional thinking, because that's just off the charts, but I can buy Nicole's anger. She's apologized to Eric and to Daniel, she's done what she can to make amends and they keep treating her like crap. Deservedly so in the real world, but not in Salem, where the sort of things Nicole's done happen all the time and the offended party gets over it quickly. Nicole's held to a standard that few others, and no one who isn't a Dimera, are on this show.  I don't mind things like Sami calling her a baby snatcher, even though Nicole did pay for that crime in way that other characters rarely do. I do mind her porn past being held against her or her having to prove herself worthy to even live in the same city as the Brady family. Outside of Chloe forgiving her and Brady (who is too dumb to hold a grudge anyway), I'm struggling to think of a character who doesn't regard Nicole with contempt for things that have happened in both the recent and long ago past.

EJ, your words mean nothing. The only way you can prove your "love" for Sami is by killing Stefano and Kristen and then going to prison and allowing yourself to be murdered.

I guess even Eric isn't spared from Marlena's terrible parenting. If Saint Carrie were in Eric's position I wonder if Marlena would ask her to give up her chance at getting justice to save raggedy Jawn.

So even with all of the problems Kristen is facing she still manages to find time to tell Dan he's an idiot for breaking up with precious Jen. Freak.

Maybe the people of Salem wouldn't hate Nicole quite as much if she stopped harassing Eric and stopped getting into arguments with his family. Maybe she cold take a break from trying to manipulate Eric and go to work instead.

You're talking like she has some dignity or a life.

I hate the Sad Trombone faces, the boomeranging between her begging for Eric's love and her flippancy over her wrongdoing (What? You mean you wanted to be a priest?!) and her blaming everyone else for her troubles. If this is what Nicole is going to be like from now on, I would prefer that they kill her off. She sucks that bad.

I know. And it's been the same loser desperado whiny bullshit for a year now (not that she was ever really an impressive or masterful woman). Enough already. If she wants anyone to love her or even have a friend stop being a selfish, needy, stupid, insecure bitch who has no self awareness regarding her choices or her hair. For fucks sake!

Again with Eric's pissy face.  I can't stand to see that manchild cry one more time.  He was ready to drop the lawsuit against Kristen (which he can't drop because it's the state's case since it's criminal) because of what he perceives to be a target on Sami's back.  I'll be the first to agree Mar will drop anyone under the bus to save her Jawn, you'd think Eric would understand that his fee-fees are a little less important than a man's life.  What was the point of that scene other than to watch Eric cry some more?  As so many of you have brilliantly described here, his fixation with how dirty sex is, is more than a little troubling.

ITA Brady should not be kept out of the loop on Jawn's condition.  That's just weird.  Mar has no legal right to be involved in any of this.  At least there was a bit of reality mentioning the Glasgow Coma Scale but I don't know when Jawn has ever been more than a 7 in his life, and he's clearly at something like a 4 now.  Wait, I just checked and since he isn't opening his eyes or reacting he's at a 1.  And cheeses unless you're very rich you don't "choose" when to leave the hospital.   My father and my ex were both sent home to die.  Nice try though, Days.

It makes me sad that Theresa is deluding herself a bit although I think I agree with her plan.  She's such a great actress every feeling shows on her face but I worry she is giving herself away to others like Kristen today.  I wish she had a better friend than Ann.  I'm finding Ann hilarious, especially when she dealt with Dan yesterday, but I wouldn't trust her with my most closely held feelings.  Although Ann is great at giving Theresa a reality check I think she is just in it for the gossip.  She's already becoming annoyed Theresa's focus isn't entirely on JenJen and I sure wouldn't want Ann as an enemy.  Gosh, putting her in HR and hiring this actress was pretty brilliant.

Although I hate Kristen as a character I'm enjoying her very campy performance.  She sees through everyone.  I thought her scene with Dan today was very well played by both of them and was blessedly devoid of too much sexual tension other than Kristen being her usual cloying self.

I'm not sure what to make of either Nicole or Eric.

I don't find what Nicole did with the shredding to be likable (duh).

However, I'm perplexed as to why Eric seems to be fixated on the fact that he has normal male impulses (which must have been why he has been imagining Nicole in bed) rather than that he was raped. I feel Eric needs to stick to the issue of the latter rather than the former. Maybe if he had been a virgin when he did it with Nicole, I could understand why he's so mad about his impulses, but since he had had sex before becoming  a priest I figured he, along with the other priests, had had a counselling session about how to deal with that kind of stuff. He's acting like Nicole had awakened sex impulses in him that he had never had before. But I'm pretty sure he had them when Jensen Ackles was in the role. Did the writers forget that Eric was not  a virgin when he became a priest?

Meanwhile, I'm also in the camp that believes that Brady would actually get with Kristen again. Has there ever been a show where a sibling got together with the lady who raped his brother?  Maybe there was Lucas and Sami but somehow Brady and Kristen together seems a lot weirder and I can't really articulate why but I just know it is! My mind can't wrap my head around Brady's attraction to Kristen whereas I could see why Lucas desired Sami.

The chemistry between Kristen and Theresa.  The sparks just flew, I loved it.

But Anne, whiskey with a wine chaser?  Yuck!

NBC (or Days, or somebody) has decided that Hope and Aiden need a shipper name, so now they're officially #Haiden.  Really, Show?

Hope and Aiden continue to be a yawnfest.

Yep, Mar is a horrible mother, there's just no way in the world I would ask my child to drop charges to a heinous crime. Them fake tears she tried to force out of her eyes when talking to Eric was laughable. I know that once again Eric is going to be the one that has to sacrifice everything to make other people happy. I think it's time that Eric becomes a little selfish and do things that he wants to do for himself. I hope Sami convinces him not to drop the charges and reams out Mar and I would say Theresa tells him not to as well but they'll be selfish motives behind why she would want Eric to not drop the charges.

Brady's one brain cell tries so hard to work but it over exerts itself everyday when Brady is waxing all the hair off his body and therefore is out of action for 24 hours.

Theresa vs Kristen can be good if they write both ladies to be strong and not have one cave into the other, but I won't hold my breath.

Anne trying to seduce Aiden was just embarrassing.

Jenn let it go, stop wanting Dan so much and vice versa. Don't know why people in Salem thinks that Jenn is "good" when she's nothing but a judgmental shrieking shrew. That's not a good person at all. Now we have to endure Dannifer chugging coffee down their throat and talk about their stupid relationship which has nothing going on. Both need to just move on.

Not the best name in the world, since it's so easily pronounced HATE'EM.  Which I don't.

But I don't have much fondness for those coupled names.

But I liked that Nicole immediately realized what an awful thing it was to say and apologized. And she was also right. Sami can't possibly have been so stupid to think that her kids would not be impacted by this whole plot of hers, and them becoming motherless is a real possibility.

What I liked about that scene, in addition to what you said above, is that Sami had this look on her face as though she sort of knew that Nicole was talking a bit of truth there.

Nicole, Sami and Eric all looked sick because they all realized that Sami's kids could very well be collateral damage if Stefano decided to go after Sami and Kate full scale--very well played by all three actors.

I liked that Eric and Brady finally had a conversation where Brady admitted to being a complete jackass--about damn time.  The Theresa/Kristen conversation was also well done and I liked that Theresa wasn't the least bit cowed--but knowing Salem, she'll probaby regret how cavalier she was.

I guess this target is what bring EJ and Sami back together?

Marlena is another one in this Eric storyline I don't know what to make of. How does Marlena manage to retain her popularity despite asking Eric not to testify against Kristen? We've been squabbling over who has helped Eric less or more or more or less -- Sami or Brady or Nicole etc. But Marlena is the worst! Surely, there must be some other way to find a serum that can save John's life. Is it even guaranteed that Kristen's serum would work? The last guy she worked with didn't do a good job of completely hiding Eric's memory....

Now I get why Jennifer would always wear beige lipstick....

Link to comment

Everything else I saw today was burned away by seeing Jennifer in her Bozo the Clown outfit and makeup again.  Unless the circus is coming to town, Hope should just give up on finding this one a date.

The clouds are parting....we also had bonehead Brady apologizing to Eric, which in Brady time means he should using his fists on someone by tomorrow.  And Eric agonizing over his dirty thoughts - AGAIN.

And Marlena weeping like the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz.  QUICK!  Someone get her an oilcan or she'll rust.

And Sami and EJ having another fight.  And Kristen acting crazy and Dan acting smug.

This is a boring week in Salem.

So, do the rest of you think we'll know if the medicine works on Jawn when they test his Fart Reflex?

A murder mystery with Kristen as the victim would be awesome.  The last time she was on I didn't find her this obnoxious, so I'm not sure what the problem is this time.  Possibly, and I don't like saying this because it's so fucking shallow, but I think it's her haircut.  That hair + a ridiculous amount of smarmy smug = really unlikeable, I guess.  The red dress/black hose combo didn't do her any favors, either.  However, I'd get over her stupid hair/poor fashion choices if she became obsessed with Dr. Tan and started sporting Bozo (tm boes) clothes and makeup to get his attention, and he fell for it.  Heeeee!

Theresa's ok, crazy lady attitude was all kinds of fun.  As someone here said not too long ago, Kristen and EJ bluster and blather and threaten, but in the end all it comes down to is my daddy will get you!

Days doesn't need Stefano.  I really hope he's not coming back and actually pays for one of his many crimes.  Having a big bad that never, ever gets a comeuppance takes the enjoyment out of watching (for me, at least).

Eric blaming Nicole for his urges is beyond disturbing.  Blaming and punishing women for the desires and actions of men is just ... barbaric.  The writers need to knock it off.

Just to highlight the difference between Kate and Marlena.

Sami rapes Kate's son and she sends her to death row.

Kristen rapes Eric and Marlena asks for him to drop the charges.

Marlena, why don't you ask your old friend Kate for advice?  She will come up with a plan to save John and at least poison Kristen for you.  To think these two women were best friends when they were young.

  • Love 2
Link to comment

What??? Kate and Marlena were best friends???

Yes, when they were young women.  They were friends in Salem before Lucas and Sami and Eric were all born.  At the time Marlena was a young psych student or just started practicing and she was counseling Kate over her grief of being a battered wife and "Austin and Billie's death".  They became really close.  Kate being around the hospital back then is what put her in Bill Horton's proximity.

When Kate came back to Salem in the early 90's, and Curtis was murdered Marlena was the one who was helping keep her past a secret so no one would connect Kate to Curtis, and the Horton's wouldn't find out who she was.  Also Marlena was the only one who would of connected the dots between Austin and Billie being her dead children if Curtis hadn't changed their identities.

What is interesting is that it seems like their friendship lives in a parallel dimension to Salem.  Every once in a while we will get a Kate and Marlena hanging out scene that reminds us how long they have known each other.  I actually really like that despite all the craziness that has happened between them (Sami, Roman, John, Cassie and Rex) that they can still have scenes like that.  It is incredibly weird but also comforting in a weird way.

I have said this before but i think to Kate, Marlena still sees her as her old friend before she was hurt by Curtis, Stefano, and Bill.  To Marlena, I think her friendship with Kate allows her to remember a different time before all their lives became incredibly complicated and messy.

So was the character of Kate actually on the show back then? I always thought the whole Bill Horton affair was a retcon.

The Kate Roberts that we know of now was not on the show back then, but not necessarily a retcon what they did was blend two different characters together.

Bill did have an affair with an unseen woman named Kate back in the 70's, but she was a doctor at the hospital.  They took Kate Roberts and made her and the doctor Kate that Bill cheated on Laura with and combined both characters and their history.  So instead of Bill having an affair with an unseen doctor named "Kate" they made Kate Roberts that "Kate".  So technically not a retcon but more of a combining of two different women into one.

It was seamless of course because Kate Roberts was connected to the hospital by Marlena so her ending up being Bill's "Kate" was easy to pull off.

I was just going to say the same thing. I absolutely love ED's portrayal this time around. She cracks me up with her smug attitude, rolling eyes and quizzical faces. And I thoroughly enjoyed the sparring between Kristen & Theresa. Watching these two could be very interesting.

So, Hope and Aiden kiss. Thank God. Not because I care about them, but because maybe this means DAYS'll finally stop repeating that one flashback endlessly. I suppose they'll probably move on to endlessly flashbacking to the kiss, but at least it's something new.

I did love Hope telling Jennifer she hadn't gotten around to talking to Sami about Abigail yet. She did say something about how she would get around to it eventually, but it's so obviously not a priority for her and I love that. Somebody who realizes that whatever Sami's done to Abby isn't that big a deal and certainly not an important crisis to handle immediately.

So even with all of the problems Kristen is facing she still manages to find time to tell Dan he's an idiot for breaking up with precious Jen. Freak.

I was really torn by that moment. On the one hand, I rolled my eyes at Kristen taking the time out, as you said, to tell Dan that Jen has the sweetest heart ever. On the other hand, I kind of liked it and it made me kind of nostalgically sad because it's a callback to one of my favorite periods on DAYS. I absolutely adored the Jen/Kristen/Billie trio of friendship. Jen was awesome back then. I loved her with Peter; I loved Billie with Bo; I really liked Kristen with Tony.

Dandesun, this'll help answer your questions about Brady/Eric, do note Brady's loving and caring reaction to Eric's being raped (plus, it's just fun viewing - you'll crack up at Marlena attempting to operate a laptop, as well as the entire church watching the sex tape - twice!):

I'm dreaming even bigger here! I want to see multiple victims: Abby, Jen, Dan, Adrienne, Brady and ever so many others. And if I were on the jury, I'd totally let the perpetrator off :)

Seriously, I tend to find even the most sloppily plotted murder mysteries more enjoyable than anything involving this show's relentlessly miserable, chemistry-free "romances", so I'm hoping we get a death or two (or five...or six...) in the very near future!

Eric blaming Nicole for his urges is beyond disturbing.  Blaming and punishing women for the desires and actions of men is just ... barbaric.  The writers need to knock it off.

I agree.  I am so tired of this crap.  If Eric were mad at Nicole for shredding the evidence, and told her she had taken away his choice just like Kristen had, I would understand.  Blaming Nicole because he wants to have sex with her is just despicable.  Nicole, OTOH, needs to stop looking so pathetic and needy.

Marlena throwing Eric under the bus to save John isn’t all that surprising.  If it had been Sami, Marlena would have done it without a thought.  Since Kate, who hates Sami, was the one comforting Sami when Johnny was missing, I want this to happen:  Sami, Theresa, Nicole, and Kate team up to get rid of Kristen because watching these women interact with each other is way better than any of the horrible couples the writers keep trying to tell me is true love while the men blame the women for their actions.

I’m tired of EJ whining about Sami not forgiving him, acting like she has no reason not to trust him, and still being alive.  Someone should clue this moron in that the argument of I’ve done much worse to you than lie to and cheat on you, so you should just get over it, isn’t doing him any favors.

Also, I like Theresa (JL is so great in all her scenes), but if she ends up needing to be saved from Kristen or Stefano, Ciara is a better bet than idiot Brady.

Just to remind Corday and the writers:

It is not Theresa or Kristen’s fault Brady does drugs.

It is not Sami’s fault EJ cheated on her.

It is not Kate or Jordan’s fault Rafe cheated.

It is not Nicole’s fault Eric wants to have sex with her.

I hate mashed couple names too.  And Haiden doesn't even do it correctly.  It should be HO-den or Aipe.  Let's refuse to use the network mash and adopt one of those just on principle.

Ha! Well, HO-den is not appropriate, but I think Aipe has a nice ring to it. I second the motion to use Aipe and from hereon will think of Aiden and Hope as Aipe!

I like it, too. I even liked Jennifer today, outfit and makeup notwithstanding, until that angsty phone call. I still see glimmers of old Jennifer when she's in friend/family member mode (except when she went all tough love on JJ, but that's as much a product of over the top writing as it was performance). I'm a pretty forgiving viewer, so I can imagine Jennifer back in my good graces if they just keep her out of romantic stories for a while.

This is what I wish we were getting with Sami's exit. She should humiliate Abby and ruin EJ and then move on. Spend some time with Eric and Brady. Maybe repair some broken relationships with the rest of her useless family. EJ is only a portion of Sami's history yet most of her scenes are with him or about him in some way. Sami has even had more scenes with Abby than she has with Lucas, Roman, Marlena, Brady and Caroline combined.

I've never been a fan of squish names either... unless they're actually clever or funny (ie: Soily on GH for Sonny/Emily because it was that fucking gross; or McDeadtome on OLTL for John/Evangeline -- Evangeline had already become 'Deadtome' for her inexplicably turning on RJ and then she and John became rather insufferable together.) For me, the biggest issue I have is that the pairing becomes all the characters can ever be about, especially to the fans, rather than being characters and individuals in their own right. I think the phenomenon lends itself to minimalizing actual characterization and storytelling for the need to make [squish name] the most important thing ever to the characters involved and the fans that latch onto them.

Anyway... to yesterday...

Look, I'm not even going to pretend. Brady apologizing to Eric made me tear up. Maybe I'm just that happy to have beats of a story make actual human sense but I have to say that all of the threads in that scene worked for me. You had Brady re-evaluating his entire life after the John Bash (thanks Theresa!) and Eric is on the cusp of seeing Kristen pay when Marlena comes at him with the worst ever request in the world. Lady Sinister, I'm deeply disappointed in you! (Except for the part where Eric was all 'have you been crying?!' and we see Marlena who bears absolutely no evidence of exhibiting such human emotions. That was hilarious.) Marlena asking Eric to drop the charges was all about Marlena and despite some platitudes of 'what a horrible thing I'm asking of you!' it really was all about 'You need to save John for me... screw everything else.'

It's times like this that I wish they could swear on soaps so Father Eric could drop a big old 'FUCK YOU!' on Marlena.

Despite the clumsiness of the one person who actually has the legal right to make decisions about John being kept completely out of the loop by everyone so that Eric could think that he was about to get the strong arm plea again but, instead, got a real legitimate apology I did rather like the way it played out. Brady said the right things. He specifically said 'I'm sorry for how I treated you' as opposed to the usual soap bullshit non-apology of 'I'm sorry if you were hurt.' He explained why he acted the way he did, told Eric he'd been a good brother to him and said that he missed him.

It warmed the cockles of my heart, people, what can I tell you? This, coupled with the adorable Sami/Eric scenes from the previous day... yeah, I love those Brady/Black sibs. I think, at this point in my Days watching career, they are my absolute favorite thing about the show. Although I did love it that Sami referred to Eric as 'Mom's favorite' right before Mom asked her favorite to let the evil creature that drugged and raped him walk.

And when it comes down to it, I found it realistic that Eric would take Brady's honest apology... the apology that comes with no strings attached because Brady doesn't know otherwise... as the possible reason he would agree to let things drop with Kristen. Presuming that's what happens today. Now, if I were writing this, it would lead to the absolute ultimate end for Brady and Kristen... because when he finds out that Kristen used his comatose father as a means of blackmailing his brother to let her go free for what she did to him, that would be The End and Brady's disgust and rage at what she did would be visceral.

Of course, there's also the Theresa angle... because the DiMera witch doctor who has this magical formula that will bring John out of his coma means that, at some point, Theresa is going to be found out. THAT means that when Brady discovers that Theresa has been using Kristen as an excuse to be close to him again but that she is also the one responsible for John's coma which means she's also responsible for John being the catalyst for Kristen to blackmail Eric into not testifying...

I mean, that shit is for REAL!

There's so much potential here... there really is. Not that I expect the writers to carry it out (they never do anymore) but, ooo, the possibilities are delicious.

Ha! Well, HO-den is not appropriate, but I think Aipe has a nice ring to it.

Now I just want to call them Hodor. [/Game of Thrones nerd]

On what planet in the universe would Marlena sit with the chick who has helped ruin her daughter's relationship, who is responsible for her grandkids unhappiness, and council her on her new relationship?  SERIOUSLY!  I'm not saying Marlena should have spit in Abby's face--which would have been awesome--but that doesn't mean she has to sit and hold Abby's hand either.

I do like Kate and Sami sitting around the mansion in casual clothes and talking about death threats--too cool :)

I think the way Eric is being treated is gross and sickening. His whole life was turned upside down after the rape and then he had Nicole (his supposed True Love) lying to his face and making decisions for him and then he had the people of Salem acting like it's No Big Deal that he was raped and lost his career over it and then his rapist disappears after ruining his life and then she's magically brought back for justice and now his fucking Worst Mother Ever is asking him to drop the rape charges so she can get some drug that may or may not allow her lying ex-husband to recover from his coma. Which by the way, has been wonderful for the audience. John can stay in a coma forever as far as I am concerned.

I don't care for Eric as a character and I think he's got some major issues, but I feel terrible for him. I wish he would tell all these people to fuck right off and then join a foreign monastery with no telephones and an excellent counselor on staff. He didn't do anything to deserve the way he's been treated by the people who "care" about him. And as far as him hating himself for wanting to have sex with Nicole - well, the guy was a priest and took a vow of celibacy. That's a big deal. Maybe Nicole should have thought about that and also considered that Eric was a rape victim before she started trotting out her lingerie selections for review.

I don't know why it surprises me that Marlena acts the way she does, but she's a freaking selfish monster.

Uh-oh, I'm in the minority on this one -- I fully get why Marlena had to ask Eric. The guy's life is on the line. It's up to Eric to decide whether to do it or not, but I don't think Marlena had a choice in asking him to consider it. I also don't blame Eric's immediate reaction ("no f'n way!").

I figured Sami meant that Eric is the favorite twin, because, yeah - Carrie and Belle both rank ahead of Eric in Marlena's favor.

Not to dump on Sami but where Roman is concerned Sami may not even be the favorite female twin out of his two sets.  That would probably be Cassie.  For Roman it is probably Carrie, Eric, Cassie, Sami, and Rex.

OMG Grimace Sue even grimaced back then or however long ago that was looking like a raggedy ass Pippi Longstocking. Surprised they didn't dot her face with freckles. How tight is DOOL budget when they're using the park setting to set up a flashback for Grimace Sue and Clyde? They should have hired a young girl to play in the flashbacks because I think she could portray scared little girl a whole lot better than her. All she does is grimace all day.

Marlena continues to be the worst mother ever. I just don't get her, now consoling the mistress and is worried about her. She barely took the time to sit down and talk with Sami but she wants to her. Marlena needs to stay in her lab or talk to a parakeet or something.

And regarding the Tammy Sue/Jordan and creepy Clyde flashback, along with the uber-dark hair, shouldn't Jordan/Tammy have her glasses on?

Marlena asking Eric not to testify against Kristen in order to save her ex-husband kind of seems like something Carly on General Hospital would do.

Why does everyone trust Kristen's word? Isn't it possible that she could give a serum that would wake John up ...er...with a new memory?
