Bronzedog November 6, 2014 Share November 6, 2014 (edited) Actually the reason a Republican won the governorship in Maryland, which is extremely rare, was because lifelong Marylanders can no longer afford to live here. We have had 40 tax increases and new taxes in the last 7 years. It made no sense to elect the lieutenant governor to continue what the last seven years have been. I'm a lifelong democrat and a lifelong Marylander, however, if I can no longer afford to live here and I have the opportunity to try to change that, why wouldn't I? I know I'm way off topic. Loyalty to A party is great but sometimes it stops making sense. Edited November 6, 2014 by Bronzedog 3 Link to comment
mbutterfly November 6, 2014 Share November 6, 2014 This is my thought about Yesterday's election.... I posted it on Facebook... but I have to say.... I'm still annoyed. The reason so many Democrats lost is because they were running like Republicans..... if I wanted to vote for a Republican Id become a Republican...... they ran away from their record.... they ran away from the President..... they ran scared..... they were afraid of what the Republicans would say about them instead of pointing out the positive that occurred under Democratic Leadership..... they let the Right define the election and they lost. I'm really disgusted with the leaders who came up with the strategy of the campaigns...... I would really prefer my Democrat candidates act like Democrats. Probably off topic but I just have to give you an "amen" RogerfromOhio. And I wished at least one of the women of the View had said just that. 5 Link to comment

Morbs November 6, 2014 Share November 6, 2014 (edited) I was working retail once, and a customer called an overweight colleague of mine a "cow" and I was horrified, so maybe that is why, but I'd rather someone use a swear word as a general insult than call someone a cow. I don't think yelling at strangers makes Nicolle a bad ass nor do I find it endearing, but like calling a stranger a cow or saying rich depressed people need to get over it, I think these are clues that Nicolle isn't as kind or as good as a person as she likes to pretend to be. I'm pretty understanding about misbehaving babies. What I can't stand is when an older child is misbehaving, like kicking seats, and the parents don't step in. Former Nun November 7, 2014 Share November 7, 2014 (edited) I just remembered something I wanted to say the other day. RosieO showed a backstage photo of her and her children with the two lead actresses in Broadway's "Side Show." She commented in a joking(?) manner about her 17-year-old daughter's "happiness" either at being with the family or (maybe) at having her photo taken. I think she mentioned several days before that that she and the same daughter are going to therapy. I wonder if her funny (or sarcastic) remarks on national TV are appreciated by said daughter. Dreamboat Annie November 7, 2014 Share November 7, 2014 Why can't you let your co-hosts share their experiences? Wow, Notmuchofacook, I could not agree with you more. I was just going to enjoy reading posts tonight without commenting myself, but when I saw that and agreed so much, I decided to chime in. Shows like today make me realize how much I miss Rosie. She's sitting right there, and yet, I miss her. I was really enjoying the frazzled mom discussion, the few seconds Whoopi wasn't talking anyway, and when it transitioned into a **yikes!*babies!*on!*the!*plane!** discussion, I was enjoying it all the more. Rosie, to my surprise, was happy to contribute to this conversation. She told us she "asks to" take the fretful baby, and was going to tell us so much more, I just know it, and I was so hopeful I'd hear more from her. But Whoopi The Great interrupted right away with "because you're a nice person" or something, and Rosie responded "no, it's because I love babies" and was about to tell us more, but it was already stopped by Whoopi The Great and her telling of why SHE wouldn't hold a baby on a plane. STFU Whoopi is right. E-NUFF you Class A narcissist bitch. In the words of Notmuchofacook, Why can't you let your co-hosts share their experiences? I don't think I'd mind the Frozen talk if we were able to hear from Rosie about other things too. It's almost like Whoopi The Moderator/Annihilator allows Rosie to speak only if she's mentioning Frozen. I've noticed lately that Whoopi The Moderator/Annihilator very rarely calls upon Rosie O, and when she does it's only for Frozen updates, be it the recycled picture of Rosie's adorable daughter in the costume beside the swing, the landmark in sales the dvd has made, the comparisons to The Shining, and yet it still somehow gets back to just Whoopi talking about it instead of Rosie. It was Rosie P who, to her credit, asked Rosie O yesterday "what do you think", since she was the only one who hadn't spoken about it. I love you guys. The penis conversation here had me laughing out loud. I didn't think it could get any better than that until I was nearly falling off the chair laughing over the twat discussion. Oh, and did I say that I love you guys? 8 Link to comment

I'm also thinking a former host being helpless in such a situation (whether store, train, street, plane.....) Dreamboat Annie November 7, 2014 Share November 7, 2014 (edited) ...and a little help sometimes Oh, totally. A little help is so great. And even just a little understanding, compassion, and kindness goes a long, looong way. A baby screaming, a toddler having a meltdown, I feel nothing but sorry for the parents in that situation. I know what it's like, I remember it well. Since there are no perfect parents and no perfect children, this is going to happen at times no matter what. I can tune it out now, knowing it's not my responsibility, but still feel very much for the parents. I also understand that on a long flight it would be hard for some passengers to tune it out. And it's happened recently where I've been on a long flight and a baby is crying for hours. Still, I feel very strongly for the parents and have nothing but sympathy for them. I have offered help too in that situation, and it has been met with teary eyes and profuse thanks. I don't mind Nicolle referring to some nasty woman as a "cow". My sister and I used to refer to nasty women as "cows" all the time, and it had nothing whatsoever to do with their weight. Whoopi wouldn't do that out of her sheer selfishness, as she mentioned she doesn't want to be spat up on, but I don't believe that's why, she's just selfish. And she's out cold for the duration of the flight anyway, lol. Useless on flights as well as talk shows. Totally agree Cosmo about guest hosts. Completely unnecessary unless one or more hosts are off that day. There's not enough time to hear from all four let alone room for a fifth at that table. But wouldn't you know it's just someone there to shill. Awful. Edited November 7, 2014 by Dreamboat Annie 8 Link to comment
kathybgd November 7, 2014 Share November 7, 2014 About a year ago I read about a fans experience with being able to meet Whoopi for some kind of promo thingy. What I read didn't shine a good light at all on her. She has her handlers around her and doesn't utter a word , let alone a conversation with her fans so I dought she would be any comfort to a frazzled mom and child. She even says she doesn't like being bothered by anyone when her 'job' is done. She mentions it ALL. THE. TIME. As far as where our dear old Ro has gone? I think through the years she has been so damn mangled and blasted for every little thing that came out of her mouth that she just decided to speak only when spoken to and nothing more. I don't really blame her, but I was the one little percent that approved of her saying whatever she believed and I miss her. Whoopi has ruined this show, I am tired of Rosie P's Latino shtick and I find Nicole inter ups too much during an interview and derails what I want to hear. CMH1981 November 7, 2014 Share November 7, 2014 See this is what I hate about this show. I'm excited for the return of the Comeback w/Lisa Kudrow, and I wanted to hear more about how they got the show back together and all that which Rosie O was good about talking w/Kudrow about and letting her talk, then we have Rosie P decide to ask some other damn question that derails the guest from their story. I hate that. This is what I like and hate about the new system of not having the guests overwhelmed by all the hosts. I love the pairing down of the hosts to interview, but I hate when they have to interrupt a guest telling a story to a question the damn hosts have asked to move them along. I bet the cast from Friends hates being asked questions about if there will be a reunion or whatnot. I watched a local interview w/SJP about her shoe line and over 90% of the conversation was about the shoes in regards to the characters on SatC. I would think these big stars would say no questions about their previous hits if they are there to promote something else. 1 Link to comment

I do think it's important for an interviewer to listen to the answers their guests are giving instead of plotting their next question. I think it's more interesting when they go with the flow of conversation even if they miss a few press points they planned to cover. 8 Link to comment
Former Nun November 7, 2014 Share November 7, 2014 Wondering some things about RosieO and RosieO Fans. I enjoyed the First RosieO when she had her own show...when she seemed to TRULY have a REAL crush on Tom Cruise (which now she sort of denies). She was packaged and managed by people who knew what they were doing. We saw only that "Queen of Nice," and I don't think much of it was real. The show and Rosie were entertaining and I can't remember where she lost her way. Those who are expecting to see the old Rosie are in for disappointment. She is overrated. I don't like how she uses a "little" voice when talking to kids...but that's just a quirk of mine. Her voice was just a big more grown up when talking to today's young man who was unjustly imprisoned. The people she speaks to are on television, are articulate, and there's no reason to voice-down to them. Does she still have a rabid fan base who considers that Rosie can do no wrong? 1 Link to comment
Dizzy9 November 7, 2014 Share November 7, 2014 Count me in as a fan because I enjoy Rosie O. I don't "view" things like she does on many topics, but I think she was not pretending to be the Queen of Nice when she had her own show. Her friends are/have been extremely close to her most of her life, she has started the theater group to help many children and she seems to genuinely care about the audience and putting on a quality show. It is obvious that she has little say about this new gig and that is sad because I find it boring now and may not hang in there for the long haul. It is interesting to see Rosie sit opposite Whoopie. I visualize a positive charge vs. a negative charge when I look at the table. 9 Link to comment

It always strikes me when someone mentions the "Queen of Nice" thing about Rosie. There's this perception that she somehow styled herself by that title. She didn't. She had a daytime talk show that, at the time, broke the mold a bit and didn't have divorcing couples on the show screaming at each other, or moms who didn't know which of three guys was the baby's father, or even serious discussions about 'serious' topics. She had celebrities on the show and was genuinely thrilled to meet and talk with them. She loved meeting people like the little old lady who made cakes and cute little kids who could name all the presidents. I don't think any of that was fake. And it was the press who dubbed her the 'Queen of Nice' because her talk show was so different from the other shows airing at the time. Did she yell at staffers in the back? I don't know and don't much care. I don't think one negates the other. I don't disbelieve her enjoyment in meeting and talking with the people she had on the show just because she may be a tough woman to work with. What I enjoyed was the genuineness she brought to the stage. I believed her stories. And I believed she could have a crush on Tom Cruise and want him to mow her lawn in a suit even though I knew she was a lesbian. Again I don't think one negates the other. I'm straight but when I first saw K D Lang in performance live? I had a total crush. There was just so much charismatic energy going on. Like others I'm missing something with Rosie this time around and I think it's the enthusiasm and frankness we know and love. I put her being squelched down solely to Whoopi at this point. I'm not seeing Whoopi's "um hmms" and "that's right" commentary while others are speaking as her attempting to show enthusiasm. I see them as her passive-aggressive attempts to keep the power at the table. By doing what she's doing she's not only keeping attention on herself she's shutting others down. I think Rosie has reached a point in her life where she's not going to engage. Maybe she's being smart and realizing how bad Whoopi is making herself look with her power plays. I don't know. I do know I'm sticking around to see if she can outwit, outlast and outplay Whoopi and be more of the Rosie I enjoy as a talk show host. Though I don't love everything about Rosie P and Nicole, they are both interesting enough for me to want them to also outwit, outlast and outplay Whoopi. I think if the table did add Jordan Sparks (as a for instance) and got rid of Whoopi? Wow what a difference it would make. I'd love to see a show where Whoopi is off for the day and how it would go. Rosie O is in a different place in her life, she's not a thirty-something, she's a fifty-something, so I don't expect her to be who she was 20 years ago. I just want to her to be allowed to be herself. Edited November 7, 2014 by Pop Tart 14 Link to comment
canter November 7, 2014 Share November 7, 2014 I didn't really watch RosieO's daytime talk show, but I knew who she was back then and vaguely liked her. I became a fan during her XM radio show, where she was, IMO, pretty much 100% herself. I probably am a "rabid" fan in that I like her so much that I'm willing to forgive her faults, but I'm not blind to her faults. She is definitely flawed, but not in a way that's ever made me turn against her. I loved hearing more from her today and seeing her one-on-one interview with the wrongfully jailed man, although I agree with the poster upthread who said that she babytalked to him a bit. I did like that they gave him a modest gift of a laptop rather than making some grand gesture like Oprah would have. I can see RO doing something like paying for his tuition, but doing it privately and not to get ratings. 8 Link to comment

Amen to that!!! Outwit, outlast & outplay Whoopi!! I love it!!! 5 Link to comment
