We grew up with the same music, TV show, movies, clothes, and were in school for most of the same years. The generation stuff gets over-played.

Okay, you two. I must confess that kind of made me giggle. Boomers just refers to the post-World War II baby boom. And it's generally considered to be from 1946 to 1964.

There's a sub-category of Boomers called "Generation Jones" — and you younger Boomers fall within that.

Yes, I agree 100% with your post and I'm a big proponent of Generation Jones. I have posted that link on more threads here than I can count!

The Boomer generation technically goes until 1964, but those born 1960-1964 probably have more in common with Gen X than the early Boomers (1946 - 1960).

If you look at the Generation Jones stuff it's probably more like later 50's through 1964 having more in common with Gen X. My husband and I are both in Gen. Jones born in the late '50s and we talk about this all the time.

I usually ignore all the nasty comments about Boomers- it's a stereotype and just like other stereotypes, we don't all fit into the "box."  But, hearing Christine (who I've always liked, BTW) be disgusted that her new boyfriend might be a Boomer really made me mad.  It seemed so superior and to me that is laughable.  I've had a much cooler life experience and made more of an impact on this world (children notwithstanding) than she could imagine.  When did age-shaming become popular ... and why????

THANK YOU! I also did NOT like Christine's superior attitude toward Boomers. It's especially ridiculous coming from her.

Sadly I have seen a lot of this lately, laughably coming from early Gen X-ers who are only a couple of years away from being Boomers themselves! I just suffered through an entire season of "MasterChef" in which Gordon Ramsay and Joe Bastianich never missed an opportunity to insult the Baby Boomer contestants. WTF? Joe Bastianich is more of a fusty old fart than his 70 something MOTHER (chef Lidia Bastianich), LOL. And Gordon has some nerve calling someone only a couple of years older than him an "old man" who "needs his nap time". He is going to be 58 in only a couple of weeks!

What gets me is this age shaming is allowed on TV shows toward Boomers but I haven't seen it directed at any other generation. Somehow we became the scapegoats for everything wrong with society. And a lot of that is just unfair. Most of the people doing it don't know history or just how old some of the people are that they are calling Boomers. And Christine is probably one of them. She acts so immature sometimes!

THANK YOU!!!!!  I'm so sick of younger people blaming Boomers for everything too.  I see we're blamed for the possible depletion of Social Security soon as I read "it's a Ponzi scheme just as the Boomers intended."  Excuse me!  Social Security was enacted during the FDR presidency.  Also being blamed for environmental problems.  Again, Boomers started Earth Day!  And things were extremely bad before our generation became involved.  Flammable rivers anyone?  You're correct...they don't know history.

You're welcome! And it's especially unfair to Gen. Jones'ers, of which Christine's "new" boyfriend is a member! We were just kids when LA had smog as thick as pea soup and raw sewage was being pumped into the water! We weren't even old enough to serve in the Vietnam war much less were we responsible for it. Even though I know how Christine is in general her attitude toward Boomers surprised me.

Read the links on Gen. Jones from Linkedin I posted above. They are my favorite, written by a woman in our age bracket. She really hits the nail right on its head!

Thanks for the links.  I went back and read the first one.  Yep, I'm a Joneser and loving the subset.  I NEVER understood hippies.

Yep.  I didn't UNDERSTAND hippies, as I said, but that's because I was too young.  More into the Monkees and Bobby Sherman than Hendrix and the Doors.  I'm sure it was just a throwaway joke from Christine but it did grate.  It would be like telling her a blond joke.  I don't think she would be cool with that.

Amen to that.  Sparkle Pony is an airheaded twit.  And when the bloom is off the rose with her current hubby I wonder if she will stick around.

No sympathy for Robyn here. Bed.Made.Lie. Plus her kids are ruined by her squirreliness.

I found the most disturbing parts of this show are the Christine/David bits. It’s like she’s emotionally 12 years old which is just too off for a woman with six children.

I just try to remember that Christine has been in a protective bubble for the majority of her adult life and a lot of time she says dumb stuff, does dumb stuff, wears dumb clothes without appropriate undergarments, and honestly can be pretty clueless.  She behaves almost like someone who has been kept in a locked room for most of her life and is now experiencing freedom for the first time (I almost compared her to Gypsy Rose Blanchard but I'm pretty sure she wouldn't go that far!).

And look at me - a Boomer! - judging her!

Christine might have been bubbled for a while but she's been out in the real world for as long as the show has aired (is it 98 or 99 seasons?) so she has no excuse for acting like a ninny.

And that's why her judgmental attitude toward Boomers was grating.  Why she would act so superior with her sheltered, seemingly boring life is beyond me.  Oh, well, I'll get over it.  I need to either ignore the Boomer comments or embrace the Generation Jones label.  :)

Same here about hippies, although I wasn't into the Monkees or Sherman. I was a dedicated Osmond fan, which led to a curiosity about Mormonism and hence one reason I got sucked into this show, lol. Also, when I was 14 my parents and I drove cross country through Utah and Salt Lake City.

In NYC we had our fair share of hippies. I remember watching their protests but feeling very much on the perimeter of whatever was going on and my parents and I would look on sympathetically, scratching our heads at the same time.

Re: Christine - exactly. I thought she might have more maturity than to cop such an attitude, but I guess not. If she wants to understand her husband she should read those Linkedin links I posted and watch "The Wonder Years". I actually like the second Linkedin link I posted the best, so read that if you can, I am sure you will appreciate it.

I love seeing Christine so happy!

Kody has treated Meri like dirt; I can't believe she agreed to that conversation, but other than that she's sticking to her guns and I'm here for it.

I've watched that scene twice now and I'm convinced that was Kody coming over to ask Meri to join them for Christmas.  Which he never got to until the end (the part with Robyn asking him to do it but he doesn't do what she says because he's a man of his own mind).

Perhaps the producers told Meri that if she would actually sit in a room with Kody and listen to his drivel (and quite honestly watching the expressions on her face was worth sitting through his ridiculousness) she would get a bonus.  She certainly deserves one!

The Boomer stuff with Christine just went over my head while I watched the show.  People make ignorant statements and since I really wasn't sure whether it pertained to my generation or not (thanks for the enlightenment!) it didn't annoy me. Still doesn't - I'm simply not easily offended.

I can say I'm old, but I don't like it when others say it!  I'm on the cusp between Boomer and GenJones, and I can relate to both, in different ways.

The Boomer/Gen X stuff was a waste of everyone's time.  Sometimes this show will take one random thing someone said and then poll all the adults about that thing that makes no sense unless they were in the original conversation.  I don't care what anyone on this show thinks of the generations.  What I would've liked to have seen, however, was much more of Kody man-'splaining to Meri how he's his own man and Robyn doesn't tell him what to think while Meri sat there trying not to fall off the couch from laughing so hard, followed by her escorting him out her front door.

If this was a set up for Kody to get Meri to come over for Christmas, then I demand to see the scene in the next episode where Kody comes home to tell Robyn that he failed her quest.

For me it's more geography than age. I totally identify as a Coastal Grandma and reject any attempt to put me in a generation box. You can talk among yourselves...

I identify in every way as Coastal Grandma, except I don't have any grandchildren, yet. I wish my married kid would get to work, but I can't exactly say that in real life, so I'm saying it here.

Just watched. FF'ed through coquettish Christine. She's like a 16 year old, but they do seem like a good couple. Love Janelle, but her dreams really aren't steeped in reality. That Montana property had no infrastructure and was 40 min from town. Janelle isn't high maintenance, but I don’t think she'd do well living off the grid and rustic.

I'm here for Meri. She's done with Kody's crap. She's calling him out on his revisionist history. She seems happy. I never really liked her for all these seasons, but I am rooting for her now.

I came here to say that watching the Kody and Meri segment was by far the saddest thing to watch.  Kody was being a total dick to his first wife and showed no EMPATHY towards her.  Instead, he tried the blame game on her and his revisionist history he is now spouting.  Janelle is right.  This Kody is not the Kody the first 3 wives married.  This current Kody version came from meeting and marrying Robyn.  I think she must have been the only wife he was in lust for vs the other three that I think he "loved" but not romantically attracted to.  Who knows (shrug) we are talking about Kody.

Were there problems within the marriages?  Absolutely.  Were they a functioning unit as a whole?  Yes, they made it work out of mutual respect for each other and for the kids. Robyn came in and started the separating of her kids vs the original kids and Kody allowed it.  And he used, or should I say they used Covid as an excuse to stay at Robyn's.  I think Kody thought all his kids would come back running when Covid was over.  He did not expect his kids to take offense to his handling of Covid and his insistence that the "mothers" were against him.  What a short-sighted idiot.  Now he is reaping what he sowed.

I can only say, if my father got on national TV and talked about my mother that way.....he would not have a place in my life any longer.  There is no reason to talk that way other than to make himself look good on the backs of his wives and somewhat his own children.  I have no sympathy for him at all.

I’m just now watching this.  I don’t know why Kody  needed to go over to Meri’s and have this conversation.  They said everything there was to say at Coyote Pass several months prior to this.  All I can figure is that he was turned inside out by her going to the church for a release that he had to come over and browbeat her into saying it was all her fault.

I had varying crushes on all of them except Alan, but mostly Donny. I also saw them in '73 at Madison Square Garden in NYC. A friend in junior high had a cousin that sold tickets so we had 8th row orchestra seats. And we got there early because we heard we might see them drive in on a big bus, which we did and guess who was the lucky girl Donny's hand reached out the bus window and grabbed? Yeah, I was that girl, lol.

That's very possible, it does change people's behaviour. The look in his eyes is scary: wide open, with dllated pupils. That's usually a dead-ringer for people high on something (whatever it may be). Frankly, his erratic behaviour and the way he perceives his own reality, is worrying!

It probably seems worse than it actually is when sitting next to someone like Christine, who can be loud and completely over the top.

Well, my opinion is that he could be he is "camera shy", result of clever editing, etc.  He does have family who likes him and a successful business..  Maybe there is more to him than the camera shows.
