Jeopardy! Season 41 (2024-2025)

Recommended Posts

February 11:

67% / 53% / 60%

In J I ran Utensils and Hodgepodge, missed two in Story, Competition Shows, and "NDA", and four in 20th Century Notables. In DJ I missed one in Under the Microscope and Meyer Schusser, Irascible Refugee Composer (Ken was having an awful lot of fun with that one 😄), two in Actors & Actresses and American Government, and four in Bridges and Fighting Words.

I actually got FJ pretty easily, despite never having read any of her books. I know they're set in Scotland and hadn't even thought about the time travel aspect before her name came to me.

TSes: (J had 2; DJ had 3 + 1 DD) I got carnivore (couldn't believe that was a TS, or an $800 clue).

C'mon, Adriana and Isaac! I need one of you to get it tomorrow!

As much as I don't care for Neilish, he has been well suited for the finals.

I just wish he'd stand still. And you know it's bad when I notice it, because I usually don't notice the little player quirks that people complain about.

I recently started watching Jeopardy on a regular basis again this season, after getting into Pop Culture Jeopardy on Prime. It's been fun reading through the thread. I get the abbreviations of J, DJ, DD and FJ. But please, what is TS?

Drew G was like a super-smart living Ken doll. :) I wish he'd gone the distance.

There’s a glossary thread in this forum - I just bumped it so it should be near the top

TS = triple stumper - nobody got the correct response.

And speaking of glossary terms, when I saw one of tonight’s categories, I was really hoping the Jeopardy Curse wouldn’t come into play. If I say any more I think I have to take it to a different thread.

The forum merged my posts but duplicated a lot of it. Hope I got it edited so it makes sense.

That was my first thought, but I was pretty sure they were going for a different show that I didn't know and didn't put too much brain effort into that one.

I paused to think about it and as soon as I let Blossom go I managed to get from lizard to Wizard and made the leap to Waverly Place which I know nothing about other than the title.

Tonight I had no idea re FJ and was thinking of Madeleine L'Engle or JK Rowling.

I don't really enjoy the categories whose only feature is to cram so many irrelevant words into the clue that you have to throw 90% of it out in order to locate the key, so I threw up my hands at Meyer whoever.

I managed to get to chip on one's shoulder.

Neilesh knows a lot and is prepared to make big wagers that pay off. I respect that but I'm still rooting for Adriana. Hoping that she or Isaac win tomorrow.

I was at the emergency vet with my cat (she's home and should be fine), so just checked the archive.  Goddamn, I wish Adriana had won, but I have to give props to Neilesh on that final DD wager.

The carnivore TS was a doozy.

I ran competition shows (cheers to cultural osmosis, as I've never seen any of them) and utensils and came within one of running all the rest in the first round -- I got all but Yangon in notables, all but Lincoln in the Bardo in stories (I knew it was about Lincoln, but had no idea of the title), all but campanology in hodgepodge (I knew it started with camp, but couldn't remember what was in the middle in time), and all but mandala in NDA.

I ran government, but that was it for DJ.  I missed three in composer and two each in the rest.

I had absolutely no idea for FJ, and wouldn't have come up with it if I sat here until I expired as I have never heard of her.

That was the first Final Jeopardy I was able to get in a long time.

I agree it's really bad in Final Jeopardy when time runs out before you can write an answer down. Ken can't do foreign accents at all.

Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t seem to work up any enthusiasm for these final games. I like Adriana well enough, but Isaac is just there and Neilesh drives me crazy (oh, the swaying!). Also, I’m getting really tired of donuts. I just want this to be over so I can see new people and return to my normal level of incompetence.

Which is why I hope he never stops doing them.

I definitely think you had to have read the books to get that one, because there's a scene in one of them where they are at Loch Ness and she sees the Loch Ness monster and theorizes that it must time travel which is why sometimes people see it, yet when searching they can never find it.

I've never read the books

Me neither, but I've cataloged them, heard about them and watched a couple of episodes of the series. I did not know she was particularly tied with Loch Ness, but I too reasoned -Time Travel-Scotland- that Outlander person. Though thankfully Gabaldan came to me before the music ran out.

I also got carnivore(!)(classic over-thinking), Ways and Means and chip on the shoulder

February 12:

63% / 60% / 61%

In J I ran Monogram Madness, missed one in Bangers, two in 17th Century Facts and Lounge Wear, and three in Differs by a Letter and The New Yorker. In DJ I missed one in Nonfiction and UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage, two in Astrophysics and 4,4, and three in Hills and On the Run. No clue for FJ.

Yay, Isaac! Still rooting for Adriana (Isaac's my close-second choice) but at least they get another chance.

TSes: (J had 5; DJ had 4 + 1 DD) I got whisper/whimper, gold leaf (DD), and bean curd.

I had no idea on Final

and

on what planet was that a B?

Neither did I. At least I didn’t have any regrets that I “almost” came up with it.

I saw a definite indentation to the left in the middle of the curve of the D/B, plus the judges can see as the responses are written, so I have no problem with it being accepted.

The silk TS really surprised me, as did whisper & whimper a bit.

"Fake meat" made me LOL.

I ran letter and monogram and got all but Alo in loungewear and all but John Updike in The New Yorker, but it wasn't a great first round -- I missed three in 17th c. and two in bangers.

In DJ, I blew On the Run entirely (I guessed rearview mirror, not just rearview, for the Ice-T clue and had not a single guess on the rest).  I didn't run anything.  I got all but the Aventine in hills and all but polanaise in UNESCO, but missed two each in the rest.

I had no idea for FJ.

Same! Even though I've never owned silk pajamas it was my instaget for that TS.

I also instagot Golden Gate Park for "this large San Francisco park," but I lived in SF for a few months in the 70s, whereas Neilesh is from PA, and Adriana is from Indiana. Isaac's from Southern California, almost 400 miles away, although I'd expect him to be familiar with Golden Gate Park. IDK. Is Isaac a recent transplant to California?

I also instagot Neilesh's missed DD of gold leaf, but I only knew it as a term for an artistic technique, not uniquely specific to ancient Egypt, which may be what threw him off? But if so, it seems like he would have at least guessed gold leaf, rather than nothing.

Isaac seemed to come into yesterday's game with a new determination to be the first on the buzzer, and bring home a win.  I'm glad he won.  I couldn't believe that Neilesh missed the gold leaf clue.  To me that was almost first grader knowledge.  Of course, when I was in middle school I was obsessed with ancient Egypt and have read a lot about the embalming process and burial rituals, so I was 99% sure it was gold leaf.

I want Isaac and Adriana to both have 2 wins.

Just "thin metal sheets" and "gilding" in the clue should have gotten him there (that's all I needed). No knowledge of ancient Egyptian burial practices necessary.

Me too. I don't dislike the other two, I just really like Adriana.

I've read all the books (more than once, they were a comfort read during the pandemic), watched all the seasons, and I still had to think. I don't remember the Loch Ness scene at all, but it wasn't until I put Scotland and time travel together in my brain that I got the answer (in time).

I get this false sense of superiority watching CJ and Pop Culture Jeopardy, and then I watch the OG and am rudely awakened. LOL! I only got about ten answers the whole show. Not even a guess for FJ.

Good for Isaac! I'd like to see Adrianna make a comeback though.

Wait until it's regular Jeopardy, your sense of superiority might not be false. The tournament has tough boards.

You and my daughter would have been great friends. She was obsessed, and still is - her current artwork reflects that interest.

February 13:

57% / 47% / 51%

In J I missed one in Stock and 20th Century Bookshelf, two in 2-Word Cities and Mathematical Overlaps, three in Happened in 2024, and four in Horror Movies.

In DJ I missed one in Words with Interest, two in Furniture and Pop Culture, three in Art and Addresses, and all five in Civil War Places.

No clue for FJ.

TSes: (J had 2; DJ had 5 + 1 DD) I got Our Bodies, Ourselves and Dr. Odyssey.

Wednesday FJ: does anyone else have the bad habit of thinking artwork = paintings?  I've gotta break that habit!

Kind of, but it wouldn't have helped me, anyway, since I'm not familiar with the artwork in question.
