I hope he's well by Thursday night - Jon Batiste is on the guest list!

But won't Covid protocols dictate that Stephen would still have to do his part remotely? — especially with Jon's wife's recent bone marrow transplant.
Too bad, but it's a good reminder to his many viewers to take proper health precautions as we enter the cold & flu (etc.) season.

He actually commented on that in the episode the other night, that protocols are still in place and he will have to test negative before he can go back into the studio.

He also referenced that he probably got Covid because he was in a mob scene of people going to see the Taylor Swift movie (I think it was the movie anyway something to do with Taylor Swift anyway).

Hopefully they can reschedule Jon for another night. I don't know how busy he is these days, and I don't want a "shoehorned in" interview; they have such chemistry!

Re COVID: It's still around, obviously. I heard on the radio today that 100 people/day are dying from it.

My county seat, in western MA, has been currently reported to be a place with high risk of transmission (the small towns here don't have tracking like that, but we can assume it's the same throughout the county), and I assume that's true elsewhere as well. But people are not paying attention and the news is not talking about it anymore.

I hope Stephen will be okay. I hope everyone will take care and be okay.

If I’m reading/interpreting this CDC page correctly(?), this week, the total number of deaths in the U.S. from Covid was 1,148,691. 👀
https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#maps_percent-covid-deaths

Okay.
Looking at this page on my laptop:
https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#trends_weeklydeaths_select_00
The Covid death total in the U.S. for the last week in September was 1,311, which seems more likely.
The following weeks' stats are grayed, which probably means the data is not yet completely gathered or tallied or the numbers crunched.

Sigh. If this were Star Trek, those stats would be instant.

I was a bit alarmed at the apparent severity of Stephen’s symptoms earlier this week, especially given both his adherence to vaccine protocols and his having acquired additional immunity from already having had it.
Perhaps Stephen’s illness demonstrates the virulence of this latest strain of the virus?
I hope he was able to be treated with Paxlovid.
🙏🧸

I didn't really think about the similarity at the time, but now you all mention it, wow, that's...unsettling. On a whole host of levels :p.

The main interview last night was a lot of fun. Stephen just totally geeking out was great :.D.

When John Carpenter walked out to the strains of Stevie Wonder's "Superstition", I was literally clapping and shouting "yes!!" alone in my living room at the reference. Then when Stephen listed all of JC's films, I was squeeing when he ended with his favorite happy place movie as "The Thing"! That may be my #1 (or possible #2 with "Alien" taking the top spot); I had no idea he was also a fan, and love that it's a twisted comfort film for him.

John Dickerson's ears were distractingly red--but only the top/back half of each. I wonder what causes that particular pattern. At first I thought it was just the lighting, but then it just seemed like that wasn't possible.

Hah! I noticed that too. Maybe wearing a visor cap while golfing or jogging?

I also noticed John's ears!

Did anyone else notice in the Monday show (Henry Winkler guest) that Stephen and the band members were dressed in different clothes for the Meanwhile segment. It was obviously taped on a different day than the rest of the show.

And then on Tuesday, they were dressed in the same clothes as on Monday. It was obviously a double taping day, which Stephen even alluded to. I wonder why they did that.

I've grown to love the Stephen and Evie segments. They're so adorable together.

Evie is a super-snappy dresser.

I bet there was a scheduling issue with the guest, causing the two day taping/wardrobe issue. I don't know why they didn't just have Stephen and the band change into the same outfits, but maybe they didn't plan to cut and air things in a mixed rather than linear order.

I noticed it too (Louis' red shirt) and wondered if they didn't tape on Halloween to give employees a chance to take their kids to parties or trick-or-treating.

Stephen was wearing a red tie when Louis was wearing his red shirt. But at the end of the Tuesday show, Louis was still wearing the red shirt while Stephen was now wearing a dark colored tie. Oy. Hard to keep track. :) (I already deleted those episodes, so I might be misremembering and I can't check.)

I also noticed a black ring on John Dickerson's right middle finger. Does anyone know if there's any significance to that?

That sounds like a good possibility, shapeshifter.

Pretty sure it's just a fashion trend for men.
But I suppose it could signify mourning? Is that what you were thinking?

Could be one of those fitness rings that tracks heart rate, etc.

During Thursday’s show, Stephen announced he interviewed Barbra Streisand and will show it on November 13

Willie Nelson did not sound good to me in his performance on Wednesday’s show I believe. He was rather hoarse. Is that just a temp thing or is that how he sounds now? He is now 90 after all

I thought Willie Nelson was doing surprisingly well for 90, but when Stephen shook his hand at the end, I was worried he broke it. 😟

I just realized that the show is off again next week (repeats airing). I feel like they just got back!

Hrrmm. Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, and Seth Meyers are on next week.
Could this be related to anticipated Paxlovid Covid Redux?

I had a heck of a time getting the Adam Kinzinger / Willie Nelson to load on demand but it finally did an I am so, so glad I didn't give up because I was able to learn that Taylor Tomlinson is going to be the host of the new After Midnight! I love her so much and while I can't stay awake that late I'll be watching it on demand.

"Sir, and I mean this with maximum respect, please never say the phrase, "Jack my son'."

God, I laughed way too hard at that. That line and "That's going to be really awkward when he runs into them in hell." XD.

(Seriously, though, that whole "porn intake"/"accountability monitoring" thing is creepy on SOOOOOOOOOOOOO many levels. Just. What?)

Yes.
Maybe because a sizeable chunk of my work as a college librarian involved teaching about and dealing with plagiarism, I f'loved the seguey to that punchline:

Quote

"…we will root out the Communists, Marxists, fascists, and radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country…"

If that Totalitarian statement rings a bell, it's because, as one historian pointed out, calling people 'vermin' was used effectively by Hitler and Mussolini.
So he's plagiarizing those guys.

It's going to be so-o-o awkward when he runs into them in hell.

(Season 9, episode 21, Nov. 13-14, 2023, 7:13-7:41)

After my funny bone got thusly tickled, I LOL'd at:

Quote

anti-vax independent candidate and weird looking Clementine you forgot in the back of the crisper, RFK Jr.

I do have some pretty old Clementines in my own crisper, and I could totally see the similarity.

I can totally see why it is getting so much WTF?! coverage! But I wish people were asking more about how the second in line to the president has an app on his phone that is taking screenshots every minute, and doing who knows what in the background. Major security risk.

And it's not going to work anyway. I'm sure the kid can watch porn on friend's laptops/phones. Dad can buy a burner phone or generic laptop. And I'm pretty sure they still sell porn in magazine form.

Aww, ❣️Bernie.❣️
The set up for this bit of the monologue starts here:
https://youtu.be/koPmZ0VSUk8?si=rgpahuTY_2WGBP6S&t=465

And culminates here at 9:27 of the almost 11 minute monologue:

Stephen's got Bernie on speed dial, right?
Monday morning quarterbacking of this incident with Stephen and Bernie would be gold.
Or, we can just leave it here.

Where's the Bernie hand part? On TV, that segment had a part where Stephen went out of frame except for his hand waving around like Bernie's was and doing all kinds of comic stuff with it and impersonating Bernie's voice

Not that one. I had to go back and check the last couple of deleted shows on my DVR and it’s from the 15th. Stephen moves off screen with just his hand showing to imitate Bernie’s with some exaggeration

It starts at 7:19 and Stephen moves offscreen to imitate Bernie’s hand at about 7:45. I thought it was pretty funny

Ooohh! Of course!

Yes, I don't know how he managed to make hand shadow puppets without even the shadows funny, but he did!
Timing.

ETA: I think it’s Louis Cato laughing hysterically in the background at the end that makes it so-o-o funny.🤣😂

Seeing Dave walk out on that stage, the band playing his theme song beautifully, brought me to tears.  Then he sits down and he has on those white athletic socks he always wore, and I swear the same loafers.

God I miss him.

I sensed that DL had some regrets about retiring when he did.
Like maybe he thinks he could've/should've done another 5 years or so.

But maybe I'm just projecting.😉

But if I'm right, does this make last night's episode a version of Dickens' A Christmas Carol with Dave playing Ebenezer Scrooge and Stephen as Jacob Marley?

I suspect Dave didn't expect to be all up in his feels when he walked out on stage and saw the audience.

It always amazes me that he is shocked at how much people love him.
