Chicklet September 29, 2023 Share September 29, 2023 These people confuse me a whole lot. The new guy is diabetic and all he does now is test his blood sugar. Enthralling tv right there, and he's annoying. Olivia is now upset with Taylor because she had a thought that she might want to have a relationship with idiot boy? Thought crimes are now a problem. She's upset because her friend didn't tell her she wanted to think about a relationship with her ex? I guess that's what it was. I am still not sure. Craig and Paige might break up because business is too good and she knows nobody in Charleston? 3 6 Link to comment
Marley September 29, 2023 Share September 29, 2023 I don’t like any of the girls really. Boring and lame. Taylor is not interesting. Olivia is not interesting and her relationship with Austen was fake so who cares. Madison is acting like she’s perfect and some stepford wife. I will never ever ever get Austen’s appeal. He’s a stupid douche. Yea I’m sure Craig is just so hands on he has to be at the warehouse in Charleston 24-7. Like please who is buying this fake shit. Watching JT check his blood sugar is not interesting. He needed to stop saying mommy too. What a riveting cliff hanger 2 ppl who are barely friends are upset one of them hooked up with the others her fake tv ex. What a horrible episode. 8 11 1 Link to comment

SuprSuprElevated September 29, 2023 Share September 29, 2023 (edited) I don't really have a problem with any of these women (Madison excepted-not buying this thinly veiled redemption arc), but exactly none of them have a compelling life/storyline for television imo. Same for the men. Despite this episode's conscious effort at steering us away from OGSC (Pat, Whitless, TRav etc.), in an attempt at relevancy for this boring group... ...nah. The forced filming opportunities are so unnatural and not belivable. (Olivia's new guy with Austen - seriously?) JT facetiming his mom while shooting his ass with insulin, on camera? And all these people who pretended to give a crap about Katherine last season(s)- not so much as a mention. Really just a weird show now. Caseysgirl September 29, 2023 Share September 29, 2023 No one on this show seems authentic.Sure, 30 something women are having “Southern Soirée’s” ( they can’t even pronounce it, let alone know what it is). They are airheads & the guys are douches. By the way, drinking like he does & then shooting himself with insulin ( through his jeans, yet!) doesn’t seem like JT’s mommy did a very good job of teaching him healthy habits. Shep doesn’t care a whit about whether Taylor & Austin are together but it gave everyone a storyline but this is not VPR. 5 2 Link to comment
Chicklet September 29, 2023 Share September 29, 2023 New idiot boy (I cannot bother to remember names) needs to have a public service crawler at the bottom of the screen when he is injecting insulin through his pants stating "don't do this". And stop drinking, you admitted that it's not smart and you shouldn't do it. Hey but I'm sure all the other idiots will visit him in the hospital when his kidneys give out in 10 years. 3 3 Link to comment

aghst September 29, 2023 Share September 29, 2023 Most of the episode was about something that Taylor at the end says never happened, not even a drunken kiss. She entertained having a relationship with Austen? Wow stop the presses! Are they going to keep going on with this or is this the end of this fake story? All these scenes could have been shot in Bumfuck or some random drab suburb. They spend most of their time in some bar. They gave up on Charleston as lending some unique character to this show other than some exterior shots in between the scripted scenes. BTW, neither Taylor nor Olivia seem to have significant jobs but they drive very nice cars anyways. Again I recall an earlier season when everyone on the cast was driving BMWs, like the show cut a good deal with a local dealer for loaners or leases. Venita just whipped up that garden party. Yeah like it wasn't totally catered, maybe a couple of thousand to some local caterer since there were a few Veuve Cliquot bottles. But sure, everyone dresses up for a soiree held outside in the middle of the day.🙄 6 Link to comment

They have to think about every sentence they are going to say for 5 min before they actually speak. They are the most distant besties I have ever seen. Ever since Laguna Beach, reality shows are filmed more like scripted shows and movies, with professional hair and makeup and the kind of lighting you'd get in film and TV. Contrast that to the first reality shows, it was handheld cameras chasing the cast members, wherever they went. So when they set up scenes, they can do multiple takes, like TV and movies. They may not work off written scripts but they're probably being prompted to say certain things in each scene. Because it costs real money to set up cameras and lighting, do blocking so that the cast members are framed exactly the way they want. So they can't just have the cast wing it and hope they get some scenes which have enough drama to make the final cut. That is where producers earn their money, making sure to produce "good" scenes which they believe will spark and sustain viewer interest. Whether they're right or wrong, it's usually boy-girl drama that they rely on to keep viewers tuning in. So they will try to shoot scenes that heighten this drama and they are going to do as many takes as necessary to get the right convos. That might mean the cast members have to try different lines and keep doing takes without flubbing the words -- in real life, people misspeak or just use words incorrectly when they're just having a conversation. But we don't get that on reality shows because they massage the convos and make sure the point they want to convey in particular scenes are executed. It's not like they shoot and do one take and figure they can go back and re-shoot. Reshooting means having the crews come out and set up again, the cameras, lights, etc. Redoing set ups probably is more costly so better to keep doing many takes from the first set up. 2 1 Link to comment

Yeah I was going to mention that. No Krogers out here in the west. Maybe they have superstores where they also sell household goods including some furnishings? But I don't get how many times people can buy pillows. The SC fan base can't be that big and only a small portion of it would bother to buy pillows because it's associated with the show. So once they sell to the viewers who are inclined to buy those pillows, who else is there to buy? Then again, I don't have extra pillows on my bed or sofas. When I go to hotels, these extra pillows are more hinderances, I have to put them off the bed in order to sleep, though I guess they give you a choice of different sized pillows to avoid neck strain. But it's more for decoration, like the smaller ones don't have a pillow case so they're not meant to be slept on. 6 Link to comment

The main characters are producers, an executive producer who pressures her underlings to deliver ratings by delivering drama. So the producers are young women who are struggling financially and they gaslight the women appearing on the show within the show. They get in their ear and say things like "you deserve this (to win prize of the season, the bachelor whose affections all these women are vying for)" and manipulate them into being emotional on camera, revealing personal secrets, etc. But the producers themselves are being emotionally manipulated in order to deliver results. 1 1 Link to comment

So, Olivia was crying because her fake best friend, was thinking of fake dating Olivia's fake ex boyfriend. Also. Shady of Austin to tell her about the sleep over. What's worse is Austin tries to act upset because Rodd wants to date his fake ex girlfriend. Why am I watching? I do not like anyone. Also, last week, I noticed that Patricia looks awful unhealthy. No. I think there was literally only 1 scene of them alone together and having a “relationship talk” deciding to make it official…and they were sitting on a bench 3 feet apart and not even looking at each other while talking. I was kind of hoping Olivia would have a “real” relationship with Rod. But now that we know he’s friends with Austen, we know that’s fake, too. 5 Link to comment

snarts September 30, 2023 Share September 30, 2023 (edited) Fully believe that Olivia & Austen were a fake couple last season, set up for the show. Then, things got physical, she started to develop feelings for him, he dipped out, and then tried to dip back in and she pushed him away. They said as much at the reunion. So, I do think she was genuinely upset in the car, a bit about Austen but more about Taylor. I've learned that everything Craig about Paige on the show is for dramatic purpose (same with her on Summer House). He was never going to spend the entire Summer in NYC, it was just a way to highlight the growth the company has experienced. I do live in Krogerland and they are (unfortunately) top dog in a number of states. Both Kroger (and Ralph's as they're branded in CA) have an extremely large footprint with a middle aisle dedicated to homegoods & holiday decor. A contract with them is kinda a big deal. Venita's backyard area is really cute and I liked the set-up for the party. I just find her so incredibly dull. Plus, whenever she's around, I know Leva will be there and ugh. Madison's trying to be suzy homemaker but she laughed a little too hard and tried to make the Austen conversation all about her. I think she already misses the game, Brett's not going keep her name in tabloids. Edited September 30, 2023 by snarts 8 3 2 Link to comment

I finally went last year, as I suggested it for a friend's birthday trip, and it was such a beautiful, charming city. But the show has dropped the city as a character. Now it's just a bunch of boring girls and overgrown little boys in big boy pants. JT with that insulin and finger test made me want to scream. At first, I thought, ok, maybe he was recently diagnosed, but it appears he's been Type 1 for a very long time. No continuous BG monitor? No continuous insulin? Wonderful city! When this show was going to debut I teased her and her friends about it. A couple of them knew Shep and Thomas, and I'm pretty sure I met Thomas years ago at a party on a rooftop bar. They all claimed they would not watch but I know some of them did! I watched it just to catch glimpses of the city, Isle of Palms, and other areas and got hooked. Sadly it's gone so downhill and indeed you see so little of the city anymore, just bars they go to or occasionally a restaurant or someone's fine home like Madison's friend who hosted the wedding after-party. When Cameran got her real estate license at least we got to tour some of the beautiful houses she was selling and learn the history of them. Even seeing Patricia's and Thomas's houses was interesting. Most of the flavor and "charm" of the show is long gone. They can't milk this cow much longer. JenE4 October 6, 2023 Share October 6, 2023 (edited) My teen just got diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes this winter. The whole “You can’t eat that! You have diabetes!” Is kind of a touchy subject because the patients (and parents) hear that a lot from people who only have experience with Type 2 diabetes, which is completely different from Type 1. They can have food with sugar/carbs—they just have to cover it with insulin. That being said, it was incredibly dangerous if JT was binge drinking and not even checking his glucose levels and covering the carbs. However, everyone has different ratios of coverage, so for his needs, it might have been fine—especially if he were drinking something like White Claw as opposed to beer. That being said, no one should be drinking that much without a detriment to their health, but these are middle-aged men—they’ve made it this far in life. I was told alcohol was not great for diabetes, but I already had alcoholics in the family, so I had no desire to drink anyhow and therefore it never affected me. Lastly, TJ "professional courtesy" is obviously an unbelievable dipshit, so nothing he does would surprise me diabetes-wise. But I guess these shows would all fail if they had interesting, intelligent, decent men on them. ANYHOW, this "OMG they talked" storyline is the weakest fucking thing I have ever, ever seen. 4 1 Link to comment

Also, being a mama's boy at 40 something is not attractive. Taylor and Olivia are still boring. And Taylor’s sweater at the cafe was ugly. Who is buying Craig's pillows? They don't look nice. You know, the mama’s boy stuff is enough on it's own, but calling her “Mommy” takes it to another level. 4 1 Link to comment
Lassus October 6, 2023 Share October 6, 2023 I know Craig's no prize, and this is an old thing, but I'm a little surprised Craig hasn't fucking punched Shep in the face for having a dog around solely to mock him. 3 Link to comment

Yes, of course. Beer has less alcohol percentage wise than wine, and hard liquor has so much more than wine. But JT (who is trying so much to become a regular on the show) was drinking whiskey, or bourbon at his house on yesterday's episode, and then he had Taylor’s drink and shots at Taylor’s event. I rewatched some scenes. He also managed to promote his business twice already. Edited October 6, 2023 by ZettaK 1 Link to comment
