We watched the Eaton Canyon fire start and expand from our front porch. When people from here say they've never seen anything like it, it's true- they're not just stating a cliche. The word that best describes the scene is apocalyptic.

Luckily, our house survived and we have a generator, so we've only had to deal with limited power, unsafe water conditions, and as of this morning, no gas. But, we now know of 12 people who have lost homes. We have friends who live a little closer to the worst of it and they know dozens of people who have lost homes.

I'm surprised the death rate isn't higher than it is at this point.

As for Hollywood productions being shut down, it's going to depend on a lot things. I wouldn't be surprised if the list get much longer.

How is the air quality in your area?

Leslie Charleson (Monica Quartermaine on General Hospital) has passed away.

Monica Quartermaine was a mainstay in the 70's and 80's on GH.  Her machinations to steal Rick Weber away from Leslie were legendary.  Then, she married Alan Q., also a schemer and the two of them were quite the pairing.  A fine actress playing a memorable character. RIP.

The GH family has had a lot of deaths in the last few years. Stuart Damon (Alan Quartermaine) passed away in 2021. Kristina Wagner's son Harrison died of an overdose, Tyler Christopher also died from alcohol poisoning, Jackie Zeman passed away as well. Billy Miller died by suicide.

Just a sad few years.

I don't have any idea of the now-deceased Mr. Jarman's family life as a child.

However, he WAS able to believably convey a boy so  DESPERATE for affection [in no small part because his poor mother (played by the always marvelous Jane Wyman) was too haunted by his older sibs' earlier deaths to feel it was SAFE to show him any affection, and his one same-age friend who'd been physically challenged himself had unexpectedly died] that he was willing to literally put his own life on the line to care for this increasingly wild deer! That was a tough order especially for a newbie and performing with cinematic giants such as Miss Wyman and Gregory Peck who played his sympathetic father would have overwhelmed quite a few other performers!

In any case, I hope he found contentment with his loved ones in his later life.

RIP, Mr. Jarman!

I know, I know, he wasn't a perfect man and I'm sure someone will post news about his past conviction.  However, I loved Peter, Paul & Mary.

Well, I knew nothing about this conviction, so I looked it up.  It's not pretty.  He had a conviction for sexually molesting a 14-year-old girl in 1970.  He served three months!  Then he was pardoned by -- wait for it --Jimmy Carter!  As he was about to leave office in 1981.  What a coincidence of timing.

Why was it a federal crime?  Oh, it took place in DC.

Yes, I knew about the conviction.

Still, I loved Peter, Paul & Mary, which is what I previously posted.

Plus why punish two people that didn't... yeah.

Carter gets stick for carrying water for William Calley by people who don't care about what the USA was actually like, especially the former Confederate states, in the early 1970s when Carter did that. Very few people considered Calley a war criminal (despite the stereotype, most of my parents' generation, let alone my grandparents were not the type to have done so - see also how the actual hit music of the 1950s has been distorted by the "Good Times, Great Oldies" formats of decades later - top selling records were things like Tommy Dorsey et al).

Jessica Simpson getting divorced, again.

Honestly I was expecting this from the moment the wedding was announced. Does he get half of her many millions in shoe money? And if she thinks she's going to have a musical comeback she's delusional.

Maybe not a comeback but just a resident show as the previous generation are approaching their 60s

If she was foolish enough to get married again without a prenup, after talking about what a stupid mistake it was to refuse when Nick Lachey asked (since she wound up going on to make a lot more money than him), I'm not going to have any sympathy for her.

Bob Uecker has died. As a kid, I just knew him as the dad from Mr. Belvedere. I had no clue about his connection to baseball — until I got older and my dad let me watch Major League.

Bob was always such a hoot when he was on Carson's Tonight show. If anyone is as old as me and remembers that, I guess I should add :)

As per the BBC,etc., Dame Joan Plowright, died on Thursday, January 16,2025 in the Denville Hall in Northwood, England- a retirement home for performers. She was 95. She was the mother of a son and two daughters by her 2nd husband the late Sir Lawrence Olivier and had had a very lengthy stage and screen career (and was a longtime friend among many others, the performers Dame Judi Dench and the late Dame Maggie Smith). RIP, Lady Olivier!

What a life, and imagine the stories she had. RIP, Ms. Plowwright.

I highly recommend Tea with the Dames with Joan Plowright, Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, and Eileen Atkins.

I begged our local art house theater to bring that movie in, but they wouldn't.  No idea why, as it is exactly in their wheelhouse, or was.  Their wheelhouse has been remodeled a bit.  The point being, I would still love to see it!
