On a somewhat happier note, the New Years Honors list in the UK is out. Among the entertainers Stephen Fry has been Knighted, Carey Mulligan was made a CBE and Fourth Doctor Tom Baker is an MBE (at 90!). Author and Noble Prize winner Sir Kazuo Ishiguro was made a Companion of Honour, which counts only 65 people at any one time

Just re-sharing the gift link for the NYT obit for Linda Lavin, which they did update: nytimes.com/2024/12/30/arts/linda-lavin-dead.html?unlocked_article_code=1.lU4.N69t.CiHe7IBW46oL&smid=url-share

By waiting a day, they managed to include all of her work in the last year, both completed and ongoing. Other media I saw that published sooner missed at least one of her 3 most current projects.

She was very popular in Wilmington where she lived for 15 years. I was good friends with the gentleman who tuned her piano. She was polite, unassuming and lived a non Hollywood type life.

Yes, he is a permanent part of my memories of 9/11.  I was on vacation, and every evening when returned to the hotel, it was his coverage on CNN (back when it was watchable) that we used to catch up with the day's developments and people's stories.  What a way for him to start his new gig.

Actress Dayle Haddon dies from carbon monoxide poisoning.  And also found at her home was Walter Blucas, father of actor Marc Blucas. He is in the hospital in critical condition.

This gives me flashbacks to the death of tennis player Vitas Gerulaitis. R.I.P. Ms. Haddon and hopes of a recovery for Mr. Blucas.

In all the memorial tributes to those lost in 2024, two names have been repeatedly missing to me. Anita Pointer of the Pointer Sisters and Mandisa. May they never be forgotten.

Anita Pointer died on December 31, 2022.

I did see an In Memorium segment a couple of days ago that included Mandisa, but I'd already posted two compilations, and others had also, so I didn't link it.

I don't think I realized that Anita Pointer had passed away.  Shame on everyone who compiled these that missed her.

Don't know Mandisa tho.

I hope Jocelyn Wildenstein has now found peace. All that plastic surgery to look like a cat!

Yes. Anita Pointer dying on December 31, 2022 meant any end-of-year tributes would have been moved to 2023, not 2024.

Donny was a longtime childhood crush, but I remember once ranking the rest of the brothers in order of…well, cuteness.  Wayne came in last.

Years later, during a YT rabbit hole journey, I came across the “Hold Her Tight” vid, and couldn’t take my eyes off him.  Proof that wisdom comes with age.

RIP, Wayne.  I know you’re showing them that you have, and always did have, the moves.

I just read about Wayne’s death. My goodness….it hurts my heart. Such a lovely man.  I grew up a huge Osmond fan.  I loved the entire family, though Donny was my favorite.  RIP Wayne.  You brought us so much joy with your music.

Wayne appears second in this video. Looks to be from the 70’s.  If you’re a fan, this is a real treat.

Hope the link works. If not, I’ll try to fix it.

He was Aubrey Plaza’s husband and died by suicide. Poor Aubrey.

How horrible!

I'm not about to speculate on what possible demons/issues may have led up to that horrific decision on Mr. Baena's part.

However, I truly hope there's at least one trustworthy loved one in Miss Plaza's life who will help her cope with the aftermath in the immediate future as well as any unexpected tsunamis of grief for the foreseeable future!

I don't say  this out of mere concern but because even before this happened (and I'm not saying this to be mean), Miss Plazas has seemed as though she has had some serious (possibly unresolved)  issues in her earlier life to the point of appearing to be a disturbed individual in X number of interviews.

Feel so bad for Aubrey plaza.

I watched spin me around last year or year before.  Fun light movie.

I can never tell if that's an act or her real persona

Either way though a horrible thing for a spouse

FYI, there's no evidence Bette Davis ever actually said that about Joan Crawford.  Quote Investigator only found a review of a 1979 performance by a comedian who was impersonating Davis, in which he as Davis said “I think we should speak good of the dead. She’s dead. Good.”

But the fabulous Moms Mabley did say it of her ex:  "I was always taught never to say anything about the dead unless it’s good. He’s dead. Good!”

List of TV shows shut down due to the Fires:
https://parade.com/tv/tv-shows-stop-production-due-california-fires

Of course, there are no accurate death reports yet.😔

This will likely have severe financial and housing impacts on the lives of all of those who do gig work to support the TV and Movie industry.

Someone I follow, got a text from her friend, saying it was so much worse than people know.  That she went home, and there were bodies in cars.  😔

We watched the Eaton Canyon fire start and expand from our front porch. When people from here say they've never seen anything like it, it's true- they're not just stating a cliche. The word that best describes the scene is apocalyptic.

Luckily, our house survived and we have a generator, so we've only had to deal with limited power, unsafe water conditions, and as of this morning, no gas. But, we now know of 12 people who have lost homes. We have friends who live a little closer to the worst of it and they know dozens of people who have lost homes.

I'm surprised the death rate isn't higher than it is at this point.

As for Hollywood productions being shut down, it's going to depend on a lot things. I wouldn't be surprised if the list get much longer.
