S01.E02: Oh Say Can You See Tiffany

I was secretly hoping for a Shauvon from The Ruins moment when James fell and injured himself.

How was Tiffany a bigger target than Xavier? Tiffany, for all of her good gameplay in BB23, was sacked immediately once the game was down to only the Cookout.

Desi, Derek X was a comp beast on BB23, so don’t be disrespecting him!

Not sorry to see Tiffany or Cashel go, though kind of surprised Tyson and Justine were onboard with it.  I guess Tiffany dug herself a hole.

Also not sure how exactly random these partnerships were, but I do like that they are getting mixed up every week.  I do think that Tyson is going to make himself a target the first week he loses.

*whew* That was close. Losing two out of the three Racers would have been tough for me. I'm more certain that the ALGORITHM ™ is bullshit, and that the producers wanted TAR out ASAP.

James . . . once again, the "Mine Five" alliance ruined TAR32, and the win he and his partner Will got deserves an asterisk. But I felt bad seeing him eat shit falling off the buoy. Luckily, he and Cayla managed to win the Arena over Tiffany and Cashel, two people who meant absolutely nothing to me.

I'm beginning to fear we might be getting The Tyson Show every week. It wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't a dick that enjoys being a dick.

No nightclub scenes this week. My theory is that all the local bars set up bans after the twerking from the Love Island girls last week.

I liked the concept and name of "Knowledge is Powered." On the flip side, I believe the person that thought up the name "Yeah Buoy" was also responsible for putting a camera of a puke bucket in the finale of the latest Challenge: All Stars.

Fuck off to Probst stroking it to build up the next Survivor. Fuck off to The Real Love Boat.

I'm such a terrible person.

TJ laughs at Cayla falling into the water multiple times.

Happy that James and Cayla survived.  I agree with Lantern7 above that I will be very pissed off if we get The Tyson Show every week.  Why is he at all interesting?

I am rooting for Danny, Shan, Sarah, Tasha and any Survivor player not named Tyson.

I'm surprised Calls and James outs cycles Cashel and Tiffany. Or was it getting the symbols correct that made them lose? Maybe they took more time?

Cashew was cycling hard, but Tiffany was going pretty slowly, I thought.

I don’t mind Tyson, but no way he can continue to dominate.  There’s a lot of competition left.   It is going to be interesting as time goes on and people start worrying about not having enough money to make the final…

Got to give them credit for winning the Daily.  Tyson kept going back for letters while his partner worked on the words so they came up with a better strategy and they performed.

It was an interesting elimination but those lights, for all we know producers were sitting off camera with switches and decided when to turn them on.  If they said they had to hIt a certain RPM and sustain it for a certain amount of time, you could trust it.  But we really don’t know what it took to light up the bars.

Yeah the Algorithm could similarly be manipulated backstage.  They’re making sure there are no repeat teams so the lights are just displaying the teams which were selected elsewhere.  It’s TV after all.

It’s interesting that BB sanctioned sending Tiffany into elimination.  If they had all players voting like they did in some seasons of the Challenge or had a Tribunal, it would be a different dynamic.

It was interesting that they gave them credit for every word but the length of the word didn't factor in at all. Seemed to me like some of the earlier teams were playing more by scrabble rules and lost as a result.

Also wondered why more teams didn't employ the strategy of having one person at the board and one person getting the letters, like Tyson did. After the obligatory one trip for each person, of course.

It was interesting to see some of the women turning on Tiffany.  She was trying to work some of the men and the women didn't like it.  I am not a huge fan of Tiffany so I didn't mind her leaving early.

.  I'm good with Tyson getting the glory right now since he is from Survivor.  It seems the first 2 episodes have been mostly showing BB and LI.

.  This show was on MTV originally right?  No wonder, it has "that feel" of shows usually on that channel.

.  I'm rooting for all TAR and Survivor except Shan.  I didn't like her in Survivor for "stirring the pot".

.  TCUSA is probably a one and done show for me, but I'll see this season through.

.  I was glad Tiffany is gone.  She was annoying

One of the teams had a huge word, penultimate or something, and I was thinking "break that up!"  Well, thinking it, shouting it...something like that.

I'm a mean horrible person, but seeing James crying in the water made me happy.  I don't like him.  I like Cayla well enough but would have happily sacrificed her to get rid of him.  I'm afraid he's in for the long haul and I will hate it.

Although there have been a few format changes, this is still a social game. Not smart to come into a house and immediately flirt hard with two people whose exes are right there, and those exes have friends that are there too. Tiffany is smart and strategic (generally) and therefore probably would have gotten booted early anyway, but I think she made a big mistake there

The use of an Algorithm for choosing teams is baloney and I think the cast is fully aware of it.  That said, I’m not unhappy for the weekly shake up but I do wonder who is making the final pairing decisions.

I’m thrilled Tiffany is out.  She is a smart woman and her masterminding The Cookout was outstanding BUT it seems her head has grown to the size of Texas during the last year.  Maybe she will come back down to earth after this loss.

I don’t mind watching Tyson work his magic.  Good for him.

It is interesting watching the Challenge with all newbies playing.  The “algorithm “ adds a twist, but they still have to balance the social game and the physical.   The elimination challenge was about endurance  and memory.  Another time…e.g. Hall Brawl, it will be brute strength, but they don’t know until they get into the stadium or whatever they are calling up it this season.

If the winning team was smart, they would have a couple of different choices of pairs to send in depending on what the elimination challenge is.

The only satisfaction I got from this episode was watching James bawling in the water.  I laughed and laughed.

It's a tedious show, and even the constant drumming and artificial dramatic music fail to instill an ounce of excitement.   TJ's laughter rings hollow, possibly because there's nothing engaging about the show and I don't feel like I'm in on the joke.   Once again the show devoted too much time to the daily challenge.   The players aren't very interesting.   And the politicking segment is soooo boring.  The dialogue is snoozeworthy to begin with, but against the backdrop of ugly red metal bunkbeds, ugh.  It's baffling why they condense what is probably the most interesting politicking into a series of ten-second clips after the other team going into elimination is announced.

They should have called this show The Challenge Basic.

My expectations were pretty high. I was expecting some cutthroat game play but I feel like I’m not really getting that.

On the flagship, I’m usually rooting for someone so I can plot all the gettable votes to take out threats and remove obstacles, like CT can get “this vote, that vote, and those two votes and he’d be in power position ORRRR maybe he can trade his vote for X favor” and so on. I can picture the game.

But with this show… I just… don’t give a fuck. I’m just indifferent. I’m not rooting for anyone. We have some plotting but not a lot. No one pissed me off and no one has said anything ridiculously stupid that I can pick on. No one is being weird. There’s not much drama. I’m watching people do math and puzzles. The dailies and the eliminations are okay but not much drama. No one has thrown any noodles yet or stolen and hid the toilet seat. No one is volunteering to go into elimination even though they need the money for the final.

Still frustrated that the show is tilted SO FAR from TAR contestants.  I think the original numbers were 9/8/8/3?  Really?  That's QUITE unbalanced.  Glad we didn't lose 2 out of 3 in a single episode.

The Love Island gang is playing as if this was still Love Island.

The only Survivor player that appears to be playing the game is Tyson.

Of TAR people, James seems to be playing the political aspect but they didn't show him playing the political aspect of the game.

...and the Big Brother people...

Yeah, not sorry to see Tiffany go.  Alyssa said it best - Tiffany was acting as if she was still playing Big Brother.

I got so tired of hearing about The Cookout from BB.  So glad to see Alyssa and Derek X separate themselves from it and hopefully get some redemption.

Big D was fuming with jealousy that he was snubbed.  But can you imagine him in any of these competitions, lol.

I admit to tuning in and out.... other channels or reading a book while the show is on.

I truly do not care about anyone other than the TAR contestants and Tyson.  That's it.  I dislike the other two shows and want nothing to do with the contestants.

Tyson is not someone who would be a great presence in my personal life, but he is smarter and more insightful than the average person and that gives him leverage.  He must have some strong personal charisma in person as witnessed by his previous performances.

So, he may not be 'likeable', but so what?  I think he has the chops to win and right now I hope he does.

Also, really only 3 TAR contestants?  Did everyone else on TAR give this garbage a pass?  Or did they really only want 3 from TAR?

For the show to have legitimacy (yeah, of course I am joking), each show should have had an equal number of contestants.

Like the team that spelled that super long word (and a couple of shorter ones) instead of lots of shorter ones.

Well snap! The only reason I tuned in for the first time last week was I heard Tiffany was on it and was wondering how she would fare. Not very well it would seem. Not sure if I will stick it out.

The problem is.....there is too many people! Despite the photo flashes while at the buoeys it was impossible to tell who was who. Some people you can even forget are on the show.

James was an embarrasment in the water. How could they get only 3 TAR people? You couldn't even find one of the Twinnies?

I've watched every episode of BB and have no memory of this Dom or him coming in second.

This really is lurching towards The Tyson Show territory. Another reason to bail.

Dom was on Survivor and was on the season that Wendell won (37: Ghost Island)

Tj definitely said number of words.  Angela was the one with the huge word. Guess her team didn’t hear the instructions.  The latter teams all made smaller words.

Some seasons back on the flagship show, we saw a young woman drop into the water from a similar height so hard that it ruptured her breast implant and she didn't carry on even half as much as James did.

Shauvon didn't really rupture her implant, she just feared she had. The doctors she saw confirmed it was ok and did not pop or leak. Still took a bad fall and bruised that whole area pretty bad.

It's odd to watch him on Survivor, where he was such a force that he and Wendell went to a tie at the final vote that had to be broken, and watch him here on The Challenge where he's basically wallpaper. He's just there... not doing much.

Maybe it's the editing, I don't know. Maybe they're not showing as much as they should but I really expected Survivor players to play harder. My expectations were a little high of Survivor players.
