As resilience and strength are put to the ultimate test, the remaining participants look to the past for answers. A survivalist’s disastrous fall impedes their ability to hunt, while another finds new ways to secure a kill. Later some participants take a moment to appreciate a milestone, as another suffers pains that seem to only get worse.

We're down to four now.  Survival of the fittest.  I don't think these survivelists really have much of a chance with the big nothing to eat.  A rabbit here or there. A grouse or fish.  Some berries.

There should at least be a chance to survive out there.

With all the starvation medical things going on in their body I'm kind of surprised nobody has sued!

I'm sure they signed a ton of papers..know the risks, informed.

People wanting to live on the land with no money seems to be the cast of characters.

Tom should know that log was slippery and stay off of it.  Ah well.  His back would have taken him out soon anyway.

He had the coolest stove/fireplace.

Jessie ate something bad.  Bye.  So much for Hodge Podge Hotel & Casino.

Adam seems to have this in the bag if the homesickess doesn't get him.

I wouldn't mind any of the others winning

Adam, here's an Emmy.

His creative use of that grid tarp is craft-tastic.

His white boot liner sock as a pouch is reminiscent of a whimsical Christmas stocking.

His Elmer Fudd....be very quiet, we're hunting wabbit...classic Looney Tunes-Merrie Melodies.

Teimojin's segment on his grandfather was touching. He has a lot of baggage to unpack.

Jessie, HP was a shelter to be proud of but it was your undoing.

And then there were four. But hey, we got all six featured in this episode, the first time they've covered all the remaining contestants. Color me shocked. I kind of knew Tom was a goner last week when he fell, it was probably a coin toss whether to edit his tap out into last week's or this week's episode.

We all saw Jessie's eventual exit a mile away. Interesting she said she spent the better part of three weeks on Hodge Podge Lodge; it was day 43 at that point. Did she start on it a week and a half after getting there? Also interesting, medical came to check on her because she did not respond to her morning check-in - something I wasn't aware they did. How did they know how to find Hodge Podge Lodge? Previous medical checks I guess. Or they found it on satellite. Well, she built a great shelter to sit around in and feel sick.

Adam is MVP, he's the most entertaining. Loved his grouse costume and his little trick-or-treat sketch. The beak was made out of that same tarp material that's covering his window - what the heck is it? Also, note the caption said he found that dock on day 35 but it was day 43 and they showed that last week. They're really jumping around in the timeline this season.

Karie Lee's costume, on the other hand, was disturbing. What the heck was she supposed to be? At least she cleaned her teeth (although she didn't quite get it all). I don't know what she's eating but nobody else's teeth were stained like that.

I wasn't quite following Teimojin's story about his "grandfather." From what I could tell, his mother was with someone who wasn't his father but whose last name she gave to him, and while he didn't seem to know that guy he knew his father who considered him a grandson. That's  . . . weird. I do know someone who had three sons by her late husband and then a fourth son by another man she was briefly involved with, and she gave that son her late husband's last name so he'd have the same last name as his older brothers. But she was married to that man and still bore his name herself.

I love the time lapse photography of the starry night skies.

Adam seems to have this in the bag if the homesickess doesn't get him.

Looks like Juan Pablo will be the next to tap out due to illness, but Adam, Teimojin and Karie Lee all appear to be doing OK physically. Adam might fall victim to homesickness. Teimojin or Karie Lee are likely the front-runners with Teimojin having a slight edge. I think starvation takes a quicker toll on the females, statistically.

I'm rooting for Adam at this point.  He talked about being homesick but I'll bet he deals with it.  This is the guy who made a solo ocean crossing in a small boat, all alone and in even more risky circumstances as there would have been no immediate help available if he ran into trouble.  That takes guts, confidence and a tolerance for being alone.  I can't remember where he was sailing but it seems to me that New Zealand was the start or end to that trip.  I could easily be wrong about that.  Anyway, I loved his trick-or-treat bit.  Also, he's not a complainer and he smiles a lot.

I wasn't surprised to see Jessie pulled but I felt a little sorry for her after all the work she did on Hodge Podge Lodge.  I could see by looking at the walls behind her that she must have cut hundreds of logs.  While not eating.  She didn't play it very smart.  I could have done without watching her wretch over and over.

Great episode last night! If Tom wasn’t taken out by his back injury now, he would have soon been tapped by medical for his extreme underweight condition he was already showing last week. Love his shelter and the excellent fireplace he built. Too bad he couldn’t have lasted longer.

Adam and his trick or treat skit was so funny and well done with the limited resources he had available. He really looked like a child sized trick or treater with that overhead camera shot. I am enjoying him and his creative camera work and humor. I hope his bout with homesickness is short. His bow hunting ability and creativeness could put him in first if he just overcomes the creeping in of thoughts of missing home. He has a great upbeat attitude and I am rooting for him because of his excellent entertainment value.

I agree with iMontrey and Kerri’s weird halloween muskrat costume and don’t like it when they turn the poor animals they have to kill and eat into hand puppets. Creepy. She said her teeth have turned black from the fruit she boils down in her iron pot, absorbing the iron. I hope she keeps up with her horsetail herb toothpaste and that it doesn’t become permanently stained teeth. I am glad I have a mute button though, for the singing session/s. It would be different if these singers had any musical talent. I am sure there is plenty of footage to add without making us sit through the awful musicals. She is a contender for 1st place though! Her upbeat attitude alone, and lifestyle as a homesteader is a huge plus in her favor.

Jessie was a goner as soon as her stomach started that churning. I was wondering why she didn’t at least try to puke outside of her shelter and was wondering if she had made herself an indoor puke pit that could be cleaned out and covered over. It would have been awful to live inside that hotel of a shelter, while it reeked of vomit. Bad odors can cause deep depression from the anti aroma therapy effects. Maybe she had a whole room in that mansion as a dedicated vomitorium. Who knows? I do wish there was some footage of the inside of her huge shelter after seeing her on the outside of it, building, building building, for so long.

I wonder if Juan Paulo is finally starting to feel the effects of not boiling his water, if so... he’s next in the tapping line. Loved his dock extension which really made a difference getting his line out to the middle of the water where all the fish were hanging out. Him not being able to eat those fish is not a good sign at all. That water is full of those beaver fever germs which is taking them out, one by one.

Teimojin is doing really well too. He is doing a lot of soul searching which I hope uplifts and energizes him, and not bring him down. I am impressed at how many are really having good luck with those bow and arrows. Not an easy feat with that small sized prey. If he can keep the weight on, he and the rest of them are all contenders for first. I think Juan Paulo is the next to go though. This season is finally getting interesting, (to me).

Halloween Alone version....

Karie Lee, we felt your Muskrat Love.

Adam the Grouse was Funny or Die-esque.

Jessie realistic spewing reclining statuary from the Trevi Fountain.

JP and TJM came as emos.

Tom and Jessie were still building their version of Winchester Mystery Houses on Labrador Island as they were getting medically yanked....Tom for his knee injury and Jessie for dehydration/starvation with her stomach beginning to eat itself.

They both had the dramatically drawn skin around their mouths giving them each the hollow skeletal look and the glassy look in their eyes with the thousand yard stares....we felt their disappointment but they both needed to be boated out for medical care

In all the times I have watched Alone that is the first time I have seen that. It must be scary for the crew, they might be finding a dead body!!

I think Adam is a contender, or Temojin. I will crack up if Kerri Lee who has basically on eaten berries and 1 muskrat wins,

Was she puking into the fire?  That was my initial impression.  I suppose that would burn out all the smell?  Maybe?

I was sorry to see Jessie go.  I wanted to see how her condominium did in the cold weather.  I bet the crew had fun tearing that down.  By the way, we don't see those time lapse images of the shelters coming down anymore, do we?

Teimojin seems to have improved his bow shooting.  Plus he has a throwing club now, very efficient.

Too much puking. Way way too much. I guess we all saw that coming. When you build a chalet with little to no food coming in and then, 3 weeks later!, begin to think of food it’s going to be an issue.

Adams’s comment about someone getting a bear  actually made me laugh aloud. I like his attitude and hope he can handle the homesickness. His shelter looks pretty good. I wish they would give us more complete walk throughs of everyone’s shelter.

As I was watching the skit involving muskrat pelvic bone glasses and muskrat teeth I had a moment of realizing how incredibly odd it all was. I understand it’s survival, but with TV, but what a odd little moment on TV. The muskrat skin hand puppet just added to the weird.

We’re getting down to small numbers now and it seems winter is closer so this should get serious. I hope it’s not a starve out for the rest of the time but still some survival living and exploring attempts.

Dave Nessa or Sooty Dave was waving his bucketful of dried trout filets at the producers who pulled him for severe weight loss.

Dave lamented that he should have eaten more to maintain his weight instead of rationing his food to keep him in the competition longer.

If I never see another half hour of projectile vomiting on TV again, it will be ok by me.

Kerrie Lee with the muskrat costume was just plain weird.  Conversely, I thought Adam’s was charming.  Maybe the bone glasses were a step to far for me.

Now that I can identify who’s who, I guess I’m rooting for Adam because he has a great attitude and makes good tv.  I’ll be ok with any of them winning.   I will say that I am losing my interest/affection for the show.  Not sure why.   Possibly because these contestants are all hyper aware of being on tv versus the raw first few seasons which made them so compelling.  Now I hear there are two spin-offs coming.

It's funny that Alone is having a Frozen spinoff at about the same time as Naked and Afraid : Frozen will be appearing on our TVs.

I'm a bit surprised about all the starvation.  I thought they found a lot more to eat than they have in the last few seasons...fishing seemed to be pretty successful for some and I've never seen birds (quail?) be so easy to shoot.

Teimojin: I think his story was he not raised by his birth father but by his mother's husband who treated him like his own son, and the husband's father who loved him and treated him as his grandson.

I legit LOL'd at the "What?  The neighbor got a bear!?!" line.

Kerrie Lee has a great imagination, and her fruit leather seems to be sustaining her quite well, if not attractively.  She said the acid from the berries are all the seasoning off her cast iron pot.  I wonder if that's going to be an issue going forward.  Will it rust out?  Will muskrat stew get irrevocably stuck on, and then grow bacteria?

Juan Pablo isn't looking too good, but extending his dock is genius.  I don't think he's a contender and may close to being done, but he might surprise me.  If that day comes, he'll go out like Jessie who vowed to never tap, and a medical crew will arrive and fearfully pull back the flap of sleeping bag to see if he's breathing.

Speaking of Jessie....was that creepy or what?  I knew she couldn't be dead, the show would package that situation very differently, but I had a moment until her glassy unfocused eyes moved and she spoke where I was seriously convinced she was dead.

Tom's tap was inevitable.  You could see the despair in his eyes as soon as he realized he'd screwed up his knee.  His energy was good, but that injury ended his game right there.  Awesome fireplace though....

I didn't quite follow Tiemojin's story, and I didn't know if the smudging comes from his mother's culture, his bio dad's culture, or his adopted dad's culture....and was what he smudged one of his 10 items, allowed because of the religious aspect, or smuggled in?

I need to go back and review their ten items, because Adam had both an axe and a saw, and I think a knife, and he's also got that fancy tarp he's repurposed for so many things.  He's inventive and clever, without being (too) weird and is clearly a "maker."

Adam and Tiemojin both have good energy and are in good spirits, and they seem to be getting food enough to exist on.  I think Adam might edge out my favorite Tiemojin for the win.  And I'd be happy about that too.

That fireplace was what brought it to mind for me too, just trying to visualize someone tearing that down.  I remember the time lapses from the early seasons, but you may be right, it may depend on the rules of the land they're filming on.  You would think just as a matter of course, you would want to leave the land looking as untouched as possible.  Maybe they'll leave Jessie's structure out there and sell tickets.  I wonder if you can see it from orbit?

Grouse are very dumb.  They will also scare the absolute shit out of you.  They have a habit of resting or nesting very close to a trail, then as you come up on them they rise up in a blathering panic and ululate "bladdle! bladdle! fladdle! gibber! gibber! bladdelbladdlebladdle!!!!!" while flapping madly about.  They blend in so well you don't know they're there until they go into their act when you're right on top of them.  I've nearly peed my pants when badly startled by a grouse just walking down my sister's driveway to get the mail when I was housesitting at her house in the woods.

Could be.  Jessie seemed to think it was caused by acid reflux and it is true that starvation can bring that on, probably if you're predisposed to it.  I know my own stomach builds up more acid when I don't eat enough regularly.  I know it's best to eat a small amount regularly to prevent that from happening.  Eating a lot then going a long time without food isn't good.  Also, those berries they've been eating might be very acidic too which doesn't help.

No way I could go out there like that without my meds.

I had terrible acid reflux, went nowhere without a pack of Rolaids in my pocket.

Then I got on Prilosec every day since 1999 and have had no heartburn since😎

I was thinking the same thing, I wonder if they were coming that day anyways so all she had to do was confirm the time for them to come. If they were coming later or the next day and she didn't confirm so they would come sooner, that is pretty shitty.

I was scared shitless one time by a grouse, you described what they do perfectly.  They run and chase you and then fly up at you flapping. This was in the spring and I'm sure it was defending its nest. After that I had to walk up and down the cottage driveway with a big stick.

I don't think it is that they are so dumb. they are just not used to being hunted.

Found this on a website that does recaps of each episode:

"Day 44: On Halloween, Teimojin talks about Samhain (the Gaelic harvest festival) and how it’s regarded as a good time to reach out to people beyond the grave. Each contestant was given diamond willow fungus that’s used for smudging, and Teimojin burns it as he says thanks to his ancestors."

Nope. I had to rewind this because I was like "Wait, what?" He said his mother was involved with a man before he was born. He was given that man's last name. He specifically never says what happened to that man, but that man's father considered him to be a grandson. Which strongly suggests that although he bore that man's last name he was not in fact his biological son. It's a very strange story. Perhaps it was a man his mother intended to marry but then he died before he was born? I don't know.

Possibly, but when they got there, she told them she was fine but she knew if she moved she'd be in pain. So it sounds like she just didn't get up to answer the call because she didn't want to move from her spot. Then again she had to know not responding would result in them coming out to check on her. I think a lot of them are just hoping the medics will say "Oh, you'll be fine, we don't need to pull you, just get some more rest."

Rooting for Teimojin and Adam. Adam has the key advantage of being able to amuse himself. They both seem very self aware.

Kari Lee's lost 40 pounds, wow. Hope the iron doesn't permanently stain her teeth. It would be nice for a woman to win, but can't root for anyone who does animal skin puppetry.

Jessie has been running on adrenaline while building her mansion, not surprised she hit the wall. I can't believe she didn't give us a tour of HPL since it was her biggest achievement gravest mistake.

Tom, you do not have to stage another fall to justify your quit! Okay, he probably didn't, but stepping on a round wet log (instead of over it) and taking another tumble right in front of the camera looked so Chevy Chase.

Same. Adam’s costume and giving the editors a project splicing his skit together was clever, I’m glad he’s having fun out there.

Kari Lee is in a position to win and I’d love to see a woman win, but the costume of bones and the puppet as presented came off as creepy and disrespectful to the animal.

In the earlier episodes, as soon as Jesse said she was prioritizing building Winterfell over finding food, I knew she was doomed. After all of that effort, I also would have liked a tour. I get that when a contestant says they’ll never tap out as a way to build resilience, but at some point it becomes poor judgment. Not doing the morning check-in means she was pretty far gone mentally.

Poor Tom, starvation was clouding his judgment too, a person with a full belly would have been more careful with that log, at least he finally had enough clarity to tap out.

I just want to chime in here and say that while all that may be true, these people are in the middle of nowhere with no form of entertainment, all while suffering from malnutrition.  So maybe it's not best to criticize without walking a mile in her shoes, as they say.  Under normal circumstances, she probably wouldn't be making muskrat puppets or wearing muskrat teeth or using bones as eyeglasses.  The producers probably encourage them to try to be entertaining.

My opinion, which I stated from the very beginning, is that Kari Lee is at best a kook.  The malnutrition is contributing to her already impaired sense of judgment and propriety to do some creepy things with the puppets.  I don't doubt they're encouraged to be entertaining but there are better ways to do that that don't involve creepiness.

And I very much doubt that Tom deliberately stepped on that log to take himself out.  He's yet another one for whom malnutrition is making him judgment impaired.  This happens every season.  I still can't forget that guy Dave who had all those dried fish but didn't eat them.  At the end he was acting like he'd lost his mind permanently.  Thankfully he didn't.  And there was that other guy, I think his name was José, who made that boat and also was acting out of his mind, crying and having to be forcibly pulled for weight loss.

BTW, Kari Lee may have lost 40 lbs. but it looks to me like she's not as emaciated as the men are after a 40 lb. loss.  She probably had more weight proportionate to her height when she started.  So the toll of the weight loss and malnutrition may be greater for women but if one has more weight on them to lose it may take them longer to get to the point of being pulled.

Isn't she the one eating all those berries and cooking them to make fruit leather.

I'm guessing the sugar in those berries is helping her keep a few pounds.

That settles it!  Now I hope Kari Lee wins.  That way we can not only have our first woman winner, but our first winner who is a kook as well.  Well, wait, actually I think we have had a kook winner before...

I actually wouldn't mind if she won.  It's hard to hate her, kook, pelt puppets and all.

I was wondering about that because Tom had that great fireplace !!  Have they always taken down all their buildings? I just remember the last few years when it was filmed on a First Nation so maybe it was their rules. This year it is on crown land so maybe it doesn't matter???

I was under the impression that they didn’t film the dismantling of the structures. Rather, they did a reverse time lapse of the structures being built which would give the illusion of dismantling.

I don't think so, but I haven't gone back to confirm.  The consistency of angle, camera quality, lighting and surroundings make me think they filmed it as they had a crew member dismantle them.

Jessie ate something bad.  Bye.  So much for Hodge Podge Hotel & Casino

I’m glad she’s gone. I found the constant mention of HPL cringy, not cute. Every time she mentioned it, my Regina George voice kept saying, “Jessie- stop trying to make Hodge Podge Lodge happen. It’s not going to happen!”

Actually, she seems to have the kind of mindset that explains while she's still there. She's not fighting her environment; she's not thinking of what she "should" be doing, and she's surviving on her knowledge of small game and wild plants. (I'm writing this after watching the next episode:)  With Adam gone, and Juan Pablo's dubious starvation strategy, I think she has a real shot.

I don't know if this is just a very odd bunch, or if they've gotten ideas from other seasons on what kind of skits get air time, and it's snowballing.

The skits and music videos are getting to be a bit much. However, more power to them if acting silly gets them through.

Yeah, she just seems to be doing what comes naturally to her out there.  She doesn't appear to be suffering much.  I'd like to see her win, just because she'd be the oldest winner (I think?).
