One of my son's friends is dating a woman from Venezuela, they live in Miami and she had to return to Venezuela to get her visa and passport renewed and it was a big source of worry because the government there is so screwed up, she eventually got all done and was able to return to Miami.

There was a recent article in the Washington Post about a carpet cleaner who speaks 24 languages. I reloaded the app on my phone the same day. I always said I wanted to be fluent in at least one other language...and my French used to be REALLY good...

The Venezuelans have a very hard time to renew their passport and they sometimes are denied one.  In Guillermo's case he was participating in protests, therefore they will make it harder for him to get a renewal.  I don't think he was seeking asylum in the US since he could have come here with a visa and apply for political asylum instead of the DR.  I am sure he applied for political asylum in DR.
