I'm standing by my earlier comment that I believe Jasmine's parents are paying Blake to marry their vanilla weird daughter; it's some sort of immigration scam. That's why she has no problem saying she has no plans on working, and why there is no chemistry between her and Blake.

Expand

I agree. It's also the reason her sister just happens to live a short distance away from Blake's folks. The rich parents are buying her a green card.

My daughter wore real ones (which she purchased herself) as something blue for her wedding.  I nearly passed out when I realized how expensive they were,  but she does wear them often   and they are very, very comfy.   Too bad my foot is bigger than hers or I would beg to borrow them.

I can't stand Michael's ex-wife, and I disliked her presiding at the wedding.

As much as I don't like Anny or Robert, I dislike the porn grandparents even more.   And as a old person, I have a wallet with a checkbook in it.   Mr. Twopper has to write a check or pay cash at the barbershop so he keeps a few in his billfold.   We also use cash a lot.

I cannot stand Anna.  Or Jasmine.  Or Tania.   Or Angela.  Or Sasha.  I have no idea why I even watch anymore.

He likes bees, and he is willing to sleep with her.   That's all I got.

I really want to play  "Guess cost of wedding for Michael and Julianna"  since I had to go through with this a few years ago with our daughter.   I think it came in at less than $25k. (theirs, not ours).

The officiant was free (as long as she could have drinks) and the wedding planner (if they used one at all, they used the one on tv who did it for free or almost free in exchange for being on the show and getting publicity).

Looked like probably a 30x40 tent with chandelier, cathedral sides, but no floor.  It was daylight so there wasn't additional lighting that I noticed.   Maybe a fan since it was summer, but that's pretty cheap to add.  Maybe $3500-5000 tops in a super expensive market.  And they were dancing, so I guess there was at least a partial floor.

Flowers could have been anywhere from $3-7k depending.  That was a gigantic wreath and I am not sure whether they used seasonal flowers.   Flower costs were what I found most shocking when we were shopping around for a florist.

The dress which came from Brazil.  Maybe $3000.  Couldn't tell on tv about the material, but I saw a similar one in an ad for David's Bridal which was $900.

Also I wasn't sure of the exact location.  Originally, it was to be held in the backyard so if they did that there would be no venue cost with the possible exception of hiring a policeman to handle traffic and or disorderlies.

Also I don't know the length of time.  I think there was one bartender who would be paid by the hour.   I didn't notice a buffet.  Also that would affect the cost of the dj, videographer and photographer.

So maybe $9000 for the last 3 plus $800 for the bartender.  Probably he got the wine from his business so the cost for that would be on the low end of an estimate.  There only looked to be about 50 guests so my guesses for food costs are just a shot in the dark.  Maybe $3k? There really didn't seem to be much food unless they all went out for a plated dinner afterward that I am not aware of.  Plus another $1500 or so for incidentals such as chairs, plates, glasses and napkins.

I am sure I forgot something.  Wedding invitations?   All I am confident of is that this was nowhere near a $50-100k wedding.   Feel free to play along.

As a two time bride (and never again, thanks for playing) I would only factor in the costs associated with the care and comfort of the guests.  No adding in cost of rings or honeymoon, etc.

I would guess their wedding was $25,000, not $50,000 on up.  The venue rental place can be anywhere from $6000 on up and they did not have that cost.  Food and beverage was their biggest expense, I am sure, with floral being right behind.  Was there a band?  If so.....$$$$!

I am sure the cost of tables, chairs, a dance floor and a tent was considerable.  Many people think doing the wedding in a backyard saves a lot of money but after you shell out for tables, chairs, plates, cutlery, etc it is cheaper to head to the VFW.  My first wedding reception was at a VFW - not chapping on them, I love them!!

For the record, we shelled out a bit less than $3000 a little over two years ago for 50 people.  It was a very lovely and no one left hungry!!!!

I should have kept this on the dvr to review.  I was thinking DJ, but I might be wrong.  I also think they only had a small dance floor, and that there was mostly grass under the tent.  Also I was unsure what time of day.  Mid afternoon and you don't have to feed people a plated meal or buffet.

I had to stay home to day with Mr Twopper who is under the weather so I got bored and thought I would try to guess the cost.

The floral archway and garlands cost the most. I looked online and saw the average cost would be in the $12-45+ per foot.

Some of the alcohol may have come from Michael’s business and he probably has arrangements with distributors to get a deal on the harder stuff - if that was served. Bartender costs, corkage costs, furniture rentals, set up and removal. DJ costs, any snacks later in the evening, etc. Probably in the $25-50,000 range.

Even if that was him, he should be paid.  Those are called "friendors" and at the risk of being off topic - it never ends well.  You NEED a professional who will take your direction, be on time and not ditch you for a paying gig.

I am sure there was food, even if a wedding is at 3 there should be some food.  It looked like evening so my guess is dinner, drinks and dancing.  I can stream it again on Hulu so maybe I can do that tonight.  Do I have any hobbies?  No....why do you ask?

If Michael can drive a car that costs $450,000 base price......he can pay for a DJ, bartender and officiant who is NOT his drunk ex wife.

Edited to change the cost of his car!  The base price is $450,000, not $250,000.

From a quick website search:  "... a Ferrari with a market value of around $200,000 will rent for about $2,000 per day. By contrast, a $75,000 Mercedes Benz will only set you back $750 per day."

Maybe renting the car for a few days was folded into the wedding cost estimate.

I’d be willing to bet the wedding cost close to the ballpark figure the wedding planner through out there initially. There’s real money, then there’s how much a Connecticut wedding planner charges for everything when she sees “rich” scmucks  with arm candy second wives walk through the door money. Added fees for everything, etc. What was it, 100 grand?

Second the idea the parents are paying for the frozen Finn sisters to move to LA. Since jasmine doesn’t work and doesn’t ever want to work, someone paid for all that plastic surgery.

I didnt really watch this episode, but I would only guess that they must have had a buffet, which is more economical than sit down plated dinner with servers. I dont think it is even hypothetical to have a wedding (in which there are flowers decorations, more than 20 people, an officiant, a long white dress) without some kind of meal, plus I think the reception probably went well into the evening.

I would like more back story in Jasmine. Like, why did she and her sister want to move to the US? As opposed to Finland. If it was weather related, Im sure she could have tried for some southern European locale. I guessed that some rich old men paid for her surgeries, but why is she so incredibly averse to drinking? I didnt even see anyone acting drunk. Its fine to not be a drinker, but she is oddly militant about it

In her couples thread, she talks about it, and says she isn't that anti-alcohol. I suspect this was a made up story line or, if true, Bleak has a habit of getting hammered, not just social drinking.

Agree with your estimate. My daughter had an awesome engagement party at home, catered with servers/bartenders and all the trimmings, that looked much nicer than their wedding for 25k. Ours was in NY so I’m sure prices are comparable.

Wedding cakes are expensive. I made my own wedding cake with a duncan hines mix and a few square molds, decorated it with a swirl of pink designs and added a bride and groom on top. No one was the wiser! I shelled out the money for alcohol, which I knew guests would care more about than how elaborate the cake looked. And I had 120 guests. Truth is, people just want to eat well and drink well with some good music.....ive heard too many people complain about how boring weddings are and knew which details would matter most to ensure it was fun

Maybe she has some genuine affection for him. The US is a huge place and there are lots of wealthy men in New York or maybe LA. Marrying him is a way to increase the chance of meeting more viable husbands or providers. She can rely on looks for a while but eventually if she moves to husband #3 or #4 by the age of 30, the red flags will come up. She may outgrow Michael in 3-4 years, or not.
