Episode Discussion II: The TFGH

Culture Check: How can we discuss a character's or actor's appearance without objectifying them? How can we express likes or dislikes and still respect an individual's humanity or be mindful that a character represents a person someone else might relate to or identify with?

i still find it bonkers that the ADA went straight to "revenge porn" and not "sex tape hijinks"

Both Cam and Joss said neither of them made the recording, so I can see why revenge porn was the next step.

Call me cynical, but I can’t see any real life prosecutor’s office pursuing this revenge porn case if Josslyn/Cameron weren’t cooperative and were adamant the person accused had not done it.

It's not cynicism, it's logic. So of course GH goes in the other direction.

yeah but so many people say that in real life then it is "Oop, yeah i did. #embarrassed". they never really investigated that was completely off the table (or they did i slept through it because this is so boring)

So Scott can drop charges against Cody and the DA won't press charges, but Joss and Cam decline to press charges in the first place against Trina and she's likely on her way to Pentonville? Okay, Show.

Very inconsistent. Think of the number of times that Michael has assaulted someone (and there are witnesses who can verify he did it) and then that person just has to say, "never mind" and the are no charges. However, other than circumstantial evidence (the phone being in Trina's purse), there's no indication that Trina either recorded or released the sex tape and Joss and Cam have said they don't want to charge her, but for some reason this is the case that the DA has decided must be prosecuted and will result in prison time.

God I'm so glad I'm on the barge.

Someone asked up thread, "where the [FUCK] is Robert?" and I say: ASSHOLE Frank has decided to decimate even Robert!Fucking!Scorpio! when offscreenville. Just as he is now doing with Dominique. Because, clearly, that's how he rolls.

And his favorites get the "good" writing, and I say "good" very loosely. I still fucking HATE and will ALWAYS FUCKING HATE Leisl, for not only being part of keeping Robin captive, but for stabbing Robert in the chest, that left him in a coma. I don't care how funny Gati is. Yet, she gets good writing, while all the Vets get SHIT/SHAT upon?

Portia is crying while she potentially murders someone.  Don't care.  He's not waking up fast enough for Portia. and of COURSE he's waking up. not amused. Liz does her job, but Portia is like pls give me a few minutes with him.  Liz...complies. Geeze marie. This dude is way too coherent. but again not coherent enough for Portia who starts screaming at him.. Oz has no more time for her and asks for a lawyer.

Jordan + Curtis share a look about how crappy they are. Jury is in.

Joss paragon of truth hasn't told Trina about Spencer's double agency. there is this big bunch of whinging crap from Joss which i really just tuned out. Cam meets his replacement. He looks happy HAHA. a lot of Joss bsery how people who work for Sonny never tell the whole truth when you ask them a question, girl just go find a rock and kick it

Spencer tells the men in his life he turned down the plea deal. Nik is pissed. Sheffield is like. "I am proud of you handling like this like a man."

Dianne tells the judge about Oz. ADA Dumbo throws a temper tantrum that the jury. LMAO. ADA is all. omg they didn't depose Oz, or anything, this isn't fair!!. Dianne: But dude, he was in a COMA.  Judge. "So did you depose him." Dianne legit goes NO. he JUST WOKE UP. FROM A COMA. Judge is like yeah no then. (so you can't even spare 5 minutes? i swear these people are so dumb). Carolyn Hennesey played that so well - just the sheer stupidness being thrown around.

Liz is says bring up my family and we're done. (there was a whole lot of banter before that but i wasn't paying attention). Terri and Finn are like what do we do about it, Finn said we should talk to someone else.

and of course we don't know the the verdict is. tune in tomorrow for more BSery.

Joss to Cameron: "I get it. Just don't o it again."  Joss really is the worst. So many more important things to talk to Trina about like hottie (!) Dex than Spencer going to jail for her.

"Trina shouldn't need Sonny's help." Oh Joss, you are impossibly naive for someone who grew up in a mob family.

Is anything of what Oz tells Portia admissible? Leading the witness, recording on her phone, no chain of evidence.

Nik may be stupid but at least he's not falling for any of Victor's nonsense.

Becky was good in the scenes where Liz stands up to Finn and Terry's concern.

I get that Finn is worried about Liz but it's not his job or his right to force her to deal with any past trauma.

well i guess he sees it as part of his job because something is infecting her life (now) and he's trying to figure out what it is and let Liz get some help. I mean. sure. on one hand it should be "leave me alone, I'm fine." but clearly this is not a "leave it alone, i'm fine situation." [and the stupid show couldn't just have left it with "i was taking sleeping pills for ages"].

so you know- i do hope they do break up, but he continues to figure out what's causing her fugue states. IMO that's the underline issue and it could cause harm to Liz or anyone around her.  and yeah i know the argument generally is you can't help someone unless they are willing-but sometimes you do have to do your best to get them to that point (I feel. however i will admit that could be a lot of reading YA novels that deal with eating disorders etc). but i also know when i had some tough times and i kept putting up fronts, ultimately i was thankful that my friends didn't accept that nonsense.

He literally found her in the stairs practically in a catatonic state with a bunch of files just sprawled out on the floor. She is NOT doing well at all, and is in complete denial about it. She has two children under 18 in her care. Something has to be done. Is he supposed to be like--OK, I'll just let her continue to be in denial because it's "not his job or right?"

What if she goes all catatonic while cooking dinner and things catch on fire while Aiden and Jake are in their rooms? Would that be OK as long as Finn wasn't being pushy by trying to get Elizabeth the help she needs. No, no, it wouldn't because they would be in danger. Again, Elizabeth is not doing well and something needs to be done.  Finn is her boyfriend. He is her chosen partner, so, yeah, it does kinda fall to him to be the person to help her.

This story is so gross. That said, it cracked me up when Portia was screaming at Oz to tell her what happened and Elizabeth, Curtis, and Jordan are looking at her with various degrees of appalled faces.

Good for Oz for asking for a lawyer. I hope he sues Portia into oblivion.

While I agree with the judge to go ahead and have the jury render its verdict (because I want this inane trial over), he could have given Diane the continuance with the proviso that the DA is in the room when Diane talks to Oz. It's in everyone's interest to hear what he has to say. But I'm ready for Trina and Spencer to start making goo-goo eyes at each other in Pentonville. Anything is better than this trial.

Why is Nik lying to Victor about Ava not knowing Nik slept with Esmé? Nik is such an idiot.

It's tricky because Liz flat out told Finn that if he continues this, they're over as a couple. And immediately afterwards, Finn told Terry that he needs to talk to other people, presumably Liz's parents.

I don't think that Finn should give up trying to help Liz because she does need help. But he has to do it with her rather than against her. Terry could force her to get help because Terry is Liz's boss but Finn is neither her boss nor her parent or other family member.

It's also noteworthy that the more Liz is pushed, the worse she gets. It sounds like Finn is going to contact Liz's parents. Even if they are not toxic parents, and Finn has no idea if they are or not, there is the potential for huge problems for Liz and their relationship.

Then clearly it shows that Elizabeth is the most important thing to Finn. He knows that she IS what matters here. Her health, her life, and any potential danger to her or her kids. When he first saw her after she came back from Shadybrook, he told her that he understood if she wanted nothing to do with him. He just wanted her to know that he cared and would be there if she needed him. The important thing to him is that Elizabeth gets the help she needs.

He loves her; he cares about her and he wants to be with her, but if them being together means that she's not getting the help she needs, he's going to put her well-being above that.

My two cents is that the whole falling in love with Elizabeth and Finn was in a little bit rushed. They've been around each other for a long time, but I can't even pinpoint that moment when I was like yeah, they're in love with each other and should be in a relationship.

And now there's this animosity between them. I have no doubt that Finn wants what's best for her and that he wants her to seek help so that she can get better, but his actions come off as controlling. Elizabeth hasn't arrived to a place where she wants help. The harder he pushes her, the harder she'll push back. And him going against her wishes and possibly bringing her parents into the picture is invasive. Finn wanted nothing to do with his father for the longest time and even gaslit him and his brother into believing that it was Gregory's actions that resulted into their relationship falling apart. If Elizabeth doesn't want to talk to or about, doesn't want to see her parents, then he should understand that and back off.

And there's also the Sasha storyline, which is a copy/paste of what's going on with Elizabeth in terms of her relationship with Brando.

Both women are portrayed as being unstable, completely unreasonable and total dicks to their put upon s.o who are only trying to help is so aggravating and so much bullshit. But by the end, I'm sure Elizabeth and Sasha will thank Finn and Brando for being so great and being so right after the writers make this all about them. Because that's what they usually do.

I thought someone posted that the actor didn't want to work so much. He was looking super cute today, I'm not a fan of the look of Dex. Weirdly (ok maybe not) I thought Dex looked way better with his shirt off, and not because he had his shirt off. Something is no right the way his shirts fit him, I thought his face look better with his shirt off. Does that make sense or I am trying to hard to justify that I liked him better with his shirt off? 😄

Awww lol poor Cam. But still lol, this is just so true. I wonder what they’ll do with him when Joss finds some flaw with him that justifies her cheating on and/or dumping him. Maybe he and undead Esme can get together. Much prefer that to her showing up pregnant.

Rationally I see that Liz is unwell and Finn is being responsible, but the idea that he’s her chosen partner is jarring to me. I feel like they just started dating and he’s being controlling. Not sure what the show actually intends here. Are Finn and Terri the only people who care about Liz? Her orbit has gotten that small? It just feels like there should be other people (other adults I mean) who might notice and want to help her. Laura? Even Nik if the writers could remember they’ve known each other 25 years. I won’t hold my breath that the only living father of one of her children might be involved.

Yes!! I couldn’t agree more with you. That is what I’ve been trying to say. I know Fiz have been hanging around each other, but I never saw them fall in love. Everything about the pairing has been rushed AFAIC. It doesn’t help that they would disappear for large periods of time. And now he can’t seem to respect her wishes. As you said, it’s controlling, and it’s not a good look for Finn. He needs to back off and leave Elizabeth be. If she doesn’t want to get help for her issues, then that’s her business. It doesn’t concern Finn. It’s pushy and annoying.

I’m remembering how much I hated Liz harassed Franco about his childhood repressed memories. That was annoying too. I just believe in letting ppl move at their own pace with traumatic things. If that’s not good enough for Finn, he can end the relationship and just be her friend. He can’t force her to address issues she doesn’t want to address right now.

I do believe that as Saha’s husband, Brando has a right to demand she address her drug addiction. They are in a marriage, and he’s a recovering addict himself. That said, if she refuses, Brando should leave her. IMO, Finn is in no position to make any demands of Elizabeth. I guess they’ve been dating for a few months if that. He just needs to back off and leave her alone.

Sure. He can demand that she stops taking drugs and sees a therapist, but trying to make her do it like he has and hovering over her like he has tends to have detrimental consequences. Even though she knows he wants her to get better because he loves her and he cares, the more he demands, the more she will stand her ground and refuse to budge, the more antagonistic she becomes.

I think a lot of us have visited that place that's born out of stubbornness and misplaced pride.

He's prioritizing school and the show is willing to accommodate his schedule which is really nice. Soap salaries are not what they were in the 90s heyday but he's getting paid more to play a waiter at Kelly's than he would being an actual waiter.

Teens and sex:  it is strange Cam and Joss haven't had sex again, or there is no dialogue to indicate they did.  It could be hard when they were filmed the first time, but then that has not been mentioned either.  Show makes it look like they did it once and they're done.

The trial shenanigans were funny - like they had a deadline of getting the evidence together before the jury came in from deliberations - the deadline would be a lot sooner than that.  Seems the trial date was scheduled too quickly.  Not a problem in the real world.

Then there's the big drama about going to Pentonville, but both cases likely would end up on probation - neither act is serious enough.  After hearing Spencer's reasons and knowing the facility was low security, they'd even press that case?  He even returned, LOL.

Soaps have this stupid mother-privilege that allows a mother to do anything to anyone in the name of her children.  ATWT had a case where Carly (played by MW who plays Ava) drugged someone with an excuse regarding her child.  Then it was stated by many characters that she could not go to jail for it, because her children needed her!

Anyway, Portia is annoying, and so I hope she loses her license, but likely show will coddle her that of course she can risk someone else's death and violate doctor ethics because it's for her child!

This was why I said Diane was idiotic for not asking for a continuance when the case started. She had just taken over for Scott, had no defense other than a few character witnesses, and they were still actively  investigating. Yes, Trina didn’t want this hanging over her head anymore but as a lawyer, Diane should have told her that in the end, it would be better for her to present the strongest defense possible.

I think it did come up once or twice shortly after the video came out and they both said they were uncomfortable to do it again at that time but it has been awhile and you'd think it would be addressed again but I think Joss is just going to move on to the Baby Jasus

Since it was the anniversary of his mother's death and it's baby jail, they might even have let him out on a pass with a guard. Three months in Pentonville seems like overkill unless it's to punish Spencer for not ratting out the guard.

Revenge porn is serious but the evidence against Trina is so flimsy, it shouldn't even have been brought to trial yet.  Then again, there is the racial element so that's realistic.

I need this show to have upped the stakes to even remotely justify what seems to be the whole town risking attempting murder, providing the distractions for possible murder, strategizing on how to manipulate comatose patients, tampering with jurors, etc.

I know they’ve touched on the fact that Trina’s risk is considerably greater than a Joss, for instance. But come on. How about anonymous threats to murder her in jail because her father’s a former cop?  Something, anything, more than what they’re giving me. And I’m afraid they’re unintentionally causing me to dislike Trina as she’s transformed into a Mary Sue. It doesn’t help that I’ve never warmed to the recast (whereas I adored the previous actor), but now what seems to be everyone but Elizabeth, including the chief of police, have no purpose in life but to save her.

They are dangerously close, for me, to turning Trina into precious Robyn - surrounded by a complete town of men - god fathers, uncles, space aliens, etc. worshipping at her altar of perfection.  Even Ava with her cold, black heart adores her (I actually love that part).

Nina needs to tell Olivia to grow up and deal with the situation. She's behaving like a toddler.

Oh look, Portia is forgiven all the ethical violations and potential patient harm. She saved her daughter.

As DA, couldn't Robert just withdraw the prosecution without prejudice?

Nik and Victor were boring.  Doesn't water wash off DNA evidence? And even if there were Ava DNA on Esme, no one can prove that Ava shoved her over the parapet.

No. He could drop the charges, which is the same thing basically and since it went to trial, jeopardy attached, so they couldn't retry her.

The whole with prejudice/without prejudice is something the judge puts in an order when dismissing a case.

Then again, this is FAKAKTA General Hospital.

I think it turned into the three months because of the original charge.  When Spencer was first charged, was he not headed to Pentonville for a good stint, only to have Victor pull strings and get him into baby jail for 30 days.  So then Spencer spits on that, has someone help him escape.  Even though it was for a noble cause, to visit his mother's grave and he returned shortly after, he still going to get punished for it, which would be the initial sentence.

That was my first thought.  Also, if she's dead in the water, she'll likely get eaten by whatever marine life is in the Port Charles river.  Unless she floated down into the Pennsylvania river and checks into a bar there.

I really hate Olivia. Gets trotted out to yell and disagree with people and to be generally unpleasant.

Ugh, seriously. Poor LiLoC.

Shut up, Olivia. And the whining about Carly losing her half of the hotel when both she and Olivia know Nina tried to (stupidly, ill-advisedly) give it to Carly. GOD.

So much for Trina and Spencer making goo-goo eyes at each other in Pentonville. I was actually kind of looking forward to that.

And yet another preemption, so we'll likely miss the last 15 minutes of the show.

Willow only has early stage leukemia? she was sick for ages, and leukemia is pretty raging. that's a load of whatever.  If anything this should be stage two or somethng Also. pretty much this is you have someone with you when you get serious news like this. YOU don't really process it, but your partner can. Like seriously read a young adult novel, people.

Apparently Oz is the only blackmarket product seller in town. again love how bright eyed and bushy tailed he is just coming out of  a coma. I feel for the guy, seriously. I honestly wonder if that ADA had a bet or something or this was her X00th's win on the line. Chick looked pissed off that she had to drop the charges.

"We are fully booked!" (look at 1/2 empty restaurant). "Carly! you'll never guess what  is happening RIGHT NOW in YOUR HALF OF THE HOTEL." honestly.  Olivia act your damn age and then shut up.  (sigh) this is the one down side of Sonny + Nina being together. She'll now be a mob moll.

Victor has all the brains that Nik doesn't have.

Early stages means that her ass will refuse treatment, go on with her pregnancy, then will get so far advanced in the stages of her cancer that the only thing that will save her life is a bone marrow donor.

Michael having another kid most sincerely hurts my brain.

The writers really hate their audience.

How is Olivia trying to ban the co-owner from eating at the MC? This is so stupid. Also, looking at those party guests made me realize part of the reason they are making Willow Nina’s daughter. Her world is so small. She has a few people who tolerate because of Michael and 1 friend who is currently in jail (I think) and in the midst of major breakdown. Since she’s keeping the illness from Michael and Sasha isn’t up to being a confidant, she has no one to confide in aside from her doctors.

One of the doctors happens to be her cousin.

Who is her friend who is in jail?
