There was no filming for the show of Josie in labor. They showed still  pictures and talked abut it at lot but Josie made it clear that only her mom and Kelton would be in the labor room in addtition to the medical staff. While Erin who was pregnagnt at the same time stated that she wanted everyone there.

I remember that about Erin. One of her deliveries was not long after Tori got married and didn't show up. They called her but she never answered the phone. Erin was so upset that Tori wasn't there. Everyone else was but it wasn't enough for her.

That cracked me up about Erin. She kept asking about Tori (who was a newlywed at the time) and telling whoever to go over and knock loudly because they were probably asleep. I said to myself that they were probably in bed but that sleep was questionable.

If you're adept at reading ultrasounds, what does Josie's new baby look like boy or girl? Odd to me that she posted such close ups on IG. Though maybe she posted them only bc any dick is nicely tucked away so ppl won't know if they're looking at a girl or a boy hiding the dick?

In the family photos where she is holding a strip of ultrasound pictures; it is obviously early in the pregnancy, there's no way to see the baby's genitals.  If we could take it out and look at it up close, we still wouldn't be able to tell.  The pictures she is holding are from a first trimester scan.  What you mainly see is the gestational sac full of amniotic fluid (round black area).  Inside that, you see various bits of bright white which are fetal echoes.

She went for another ultrasound today. She's 12/13 weeks.

Even a really skilled sonographer cannot tell at 12 weeks.  When people miscarry a fetus at that age, they often want to know whether it was a boy or girl.  At that point, things really aren't well developed yet and it is hard to tell.

Earliest I've ever been able to see genitalia well enough to feel confident enough to predict is 15 weeks.  Most high risk specialists tell people to wait until 18-20 weeks when things are much clearer.

Given the issues she had with Hazel I am sure she has already had a slew of bloodwork done.  They probably know the sex from those test results.

I just have a hard time believing they want to wait until the baby is born to find out. I can understand not wanting a gender reveal party but I do think they know.

I'm guessing they know too. I think she may have learned from Erin and Alyssa who both are having or had a boy after a long wait. Alyssa, especially, has been criticized a lot for how she has reacted on camera to her first boy and how she has ignored the girls. When Erin did the gender reveal for Finley and Alyssa for Maci, there were many who interpreted their reactions as disappointed. Josie may not want that kind of criticism or critique or is being savvy about it.

She can never claim to be “modest,” that’s for sure.

I will say I don't think Josie's ever pretended to be 'modest'... she was usually the one that liked all the Boho hippie stuff.

Maybe with the show over, maybe they're all relaxed and not putting on this image for the show anymore... why else would Whitney have posted the skin tight clothing pic when she was at the end of her most recent pregnancy

She loves herself a body con dress. The apple picking one was more suited for the club.

I don't know if you saw the checkered, knit, bodycon dress she wore for an OB appointment, but I have socks that are looser than that dress.

Willow and Hazel looked so darn cute in their gymnastics outfits. W&Z’s kids are playing soccer, including Khloe. Layla is taking ballet and tap dancing. YAY for them! Meanwhile Alyssa’s and Erin’s kids keep living their Groundhog Day lives. At least Alyssa’s kids have a pool, but like everything else it gets old unless they are competitive swimmers.

Apparently J&K have decided Josie has a nice ass and asses bring clicks. Every reel and photo they've done in the past few weeks feature her ass. I suppose we could say this started on her wedding day. These folks have no shame.

Wow that comes across jealous and condescending - "perfect little role models"!? I mean I think a lot of that family (ahem - Carlin and by extension Kelly since she's very similar to Carlin) are jealous of the life J&K have. And this current trip to Europe, while being pregnant with #3 can't be helping. Love how no one wants to see that they have that life because the husband is willing to work hard and build an actual business with a dozen+ employees and not just sit around making YouTubes all day or horning in on his wife's barrette business like Evan did. Also love how no ones sees that they appear to prioritize living responsibly. They don't grab CFA 8 times/wk they actually cook; when they remodeled their home they only did what was most important to them and gasp lived with an ugly bathroom for 4-5 years to save money; when they bought another car recently they bought a used SUV with 20k miles on it that they could drive for a long time with no maintenance cost rather than running out and getting 100k cars like Z&W and C&E. So yeah of course they can afford to go to Europe for 5 days by themselves or take the kids to Cali for a week.

So I guess why not take them down a notch by letting them know their kids act up, their house is messy, and they don't have real "togetherness" . . . . Either Kelly is jealous or she posted this to show other daughters (Carlin, Erin) - look they may seem rich and perfect but they aren't, don't feel bad , they don't spend nearly the time "together" that you and your husbands do so they don't have the same marital closeness that you all have or Gil and I have . . . . Uh yeah they're not together 24-7 bc the man is off WORKING, which is what is buying the European vacations that you are jealous of . . . .

Wow that was some message from Kelly.  The only response I can imagine is a Mom, please never do another anniversary message to us unless it's simply Happy Anniversary.

Right?! All Kelly had to say was something like "Happy Anniversary! I can't believe five years has gone by so quickly! We're so proud of you and everything you've achieved!." Short, simple and nice. Instead, Kelly starts off great, the message takes a random dark turn and then tries to redeem itself in the end.

I don't know what Kelly's aim was, but the comments about the house, kids and marriage were really unnecessary. I'm not a Josie SuperFan, but I follow her Insta, and she's never claimed her girls are angels, and she's shown her home in disarray multiple times.  Yes, she's highly curated, but so are the rest of the sisters. Kelly basically saying "you're not as perfect as everyone thinks" comes across as very petty and spiteful. I feel like this Mediterranean vacation has the entire family shook, lol. 😅

I wonder which sister started the cattiness first. Carlin is my guess.

Yes! He doesn’t seem to give 2 F***’s what KJ and Gil think so clearly he’s messy. They are probably annoyed that he allows Josie to work in her own business and also, they aren’t together 24/7. And maybe he knew about Bobby and his impure thoughts or deeds?

Yup, and Kelton is everything Gil, the male Bates kidults and the BsIL are not. He's disciplined, goal oriented, hard working and he cooks. I mean I think Kelton is likely a judgmental rigid prick who takes life to seriously, but he's not the fame whore and/or the aimless wanderer his inlaws are.

Kelly is basically saying, don't look down on us, y'all ain't perfect either.

Out of curiosity, why do you think he takes life too seriously? The rest of your description of Kelton is spot on, but I don't see that part.

Just the vibe I get. Especially watching the cooking reels - its like he's doing surgery. To me he feels like the kind of person who would ruin a game of bowling if folks were just there to have fun and not working on their technique and trying to improve their game. Like fishing wouldn't be relaxing with him because he's there to catch fish - damn it.

To me he feels like a guy who has his own life/societal script and anything that veers from it is never fun or funny.

I could totally see that. They probably figured Josie would have her cute little bridal business for a while, and then do the godly thing and bow out after Willow was born. I've long suspected part of the reason Erin left BSB was because Chad was putting pressure on her to be a "proper" SAHM. I know everyone thinks she wears the pants, but Chad is very Fundie. A woman working too many hours outside the home is something I think he'd put his foot down over.

Carlin and Whit have the Boutique, but their husbands quit their jobs to be with them full time. I'm sure Kelly doesn't judge that because the couples have that 24/7 "togetherness" that Fundies deem necessary to keep a marriage intact. Josie and Kelton have taken separate vacations (gasp!) so clearly that's indicative of deeper problems (eye roll).

From what I understand, when Kelly/Gil got married back in the late 80s.. she had a plan of working in a job for a few years before they would have a baby.  However, she got pregnant right away and she focused on having countless kids and probably living in near poverty in her 20s/30s until the reality show/s brought in some income.

So I think Kelly is jealous deep down that Josie was able to keep working and also married a man that has a great job/business.  Not only that but they have enough money to have their 2.5 kids, live reasonable, and on occasion take a great vacation overseas.

Pious Erin and melodramatic Carlin would be the ones to be jealous most of the sisters...  Katie and Alyssa seem to be living decent lives with close ties to their in-laws.. while I'm not sure how Tori is feeling (she's always been a wild card out of all the sisters).

I thought Gil or Kelly (Gilly?) had said that he wanted to wait to start their family, but Kelly wanted to start right away and they had Zach less than a year after their wedding. I also wouldn't call it near poverty -- it was poverty and of their own making. The sad part is that the kids paid the price.

I've mentioned before that I lived in the same part of South Carolina that Gilly are from. Even among the non-religious people, it was very much seen as a woman's goal or station in life to "get her diamond" and have babies. Women who wanted anything more, or wanted careers that weren't nursing or teaching little kids, were seen as abnormal and unfeminine. (I knew one girl who wanted to be a physical therapist, and people gossiped and tried to talk her out of it.) None of this prevented the wife-and-mother set from being jealous of people who had more. Kelly is very much a product of that environment.

I did just watch Josie's Instagram posts about her adventures.  She seems excited..but I could see how someone could think she's bragging and holding it over others that she's on a cruise, etc.

If you're insecure, you'd take her posts to be flexing/bragging...but I view them as just an influencer like many 20 somethings I know (from when I lived in Chicago).

I agree. I will say though, all the Bates sisters humblebrag, minus Tori and Michael. Whit was positively obnoxious over that SUV, Katie vacations constantly, Alyssa is always showing off her pool, and while Erin doesn't have material wealth she has her "perfect" husband who does everything while she preens on her lily pad. It's like cereality noted, J&K took a splashy trip but they spend conservatively in other areas. I know many people thought Kelly knocked them down a peg so the other sisters wouldn't feel bad, but none of them are living poorly or struggling by any means.

Man the Reddit folks REALLY keep tabs on these chicks in detail. Apparently Josie changed her IG bio to "girl mom" making readers speculate that she knows the sex and it's another girl. (Though others say it means she knows it's a boy so she's just trying to take advantage of the "girl mom" schtick for a few more months. So who knows.)

If anyone can/wants to read an ultrasound, she has one on her IG feed. Though doesn't look to me like she posted a low enough shot to see the business end but I have no idea as I don't read ultrasounds for a living.

In any event this kid is big - 87th percentile, while her first two were 10th-12th percentile. Is that indicative of a boy - or have people seem same sex babies across the same family be born at such different sizes?

Josie still looks tiny, its crazy the baby is measuring so large. If she does have gestational diabetes and gets treatment it can slow the growth.

I think boys tend to be born bigger but only by a pound or two, not double the size of their sisters.

Link to comment

I wouldn’t wish gestational diabetes on anyone, but if she does in fact have it she is going to have to give up all of her beloved Starbucks drinks (including the Christmas ones) until the baby is born. I must admit I would be curious to see how that would play out.

She said they were going to test her for GD soon. She's talking about a 12 lb. baby as if it will stay in the 87th percentile. I'm sure it will end up small like her others.

Josie has no idea what she is talking about, as usual.  A baby in the 87%ile at full term does NOT weigh 12 lbs. which would be 99+%ile.  87%ile is around 9 lbs.

As far as boys being bigger than girls, in general, that is true.  Baby boys tend to be several ounces more than girls.  However, babies also tend to get bigger based on birth order.  The first kid is often the smallest, with each subsequent kid being a little bigger than the last one.

However, there seems to be a bigger difference between the size of this baby and her previous kids than would usually be seen.  Could be gestational diabetes, could be nothing.

Lay people get really hung up on ultrasound estimation of fetal weight, but, in reality, it is notoriously inaccurate.  This is especially true of babies at the far ends of the scale.  Therefore, when an ultrasound predicts that a baby will be unusually small or large, it needs to be taken with a grain of salt.  At the far ends of the range, there is a 10-15% range of error on estimating fetal weight.  That means an ultrasound that predicts a baby in the 89%ile, around 9 lbs, at term can be off by more than a lb, a huge difference. Because of the way that calculating percentiles works, the algorithm is also far more likely to UNDERestimate the weight of a baby predicted to be unusually small and OVERestimate the weight of a baby thought to be very big,  So, that 9 pounder is far more likely to be an 8 pounder than 10.

Ultrasound is the best we've got at this point, but its not so great.   There are plenty of studies that show that an experience obstetrician doing a simple exam of the pregnant woman's abdomen is just as accurate at estimating the weight as an ultrasound and I have definitely found that to be the case over 40 years of practice.

I wonder what Gil and Kelly really think about some of their daughters' "modesty"? That 3rd photo is anything but a modest one. Josie, in my opinion, has little modesty to her these days. I am shocked, really at her photos lately. It goes to show me that these daughters just followed their fathers' rules out of necessity and could not wait to leave them and his household.

Pregnant with Willow at 25 weeks, Hazel at 18 weeks and this baby at 22 weeks. Josie is now going all kinds of Kardashian with her ass.

I can't tell anything about the size of her bump in the third photo due to her extreme bodily contortions.  That can't be comfortable.  I doubt she's going from having six pound babies to a twelve pound baby, but it gives us something to talk about.
