Toaster Strudel November 25, 2017 Share November 25, 2017 (edited) I'm totally with you on the outrage about the 'mother' who was a veritable monster. I'm glad they were laughing after they killed Gypsy's cruel tormentor. The medical profession really dropped the ball. Did they care only about the profits? How did doctors end up installing a feeding tube, for years, in a healthy person? It's really sad that she was born into a hostage situation with her own mother as her captor, and then she ends up in jail. How else could she have escaped? She couldn't call the police, alert a doctor... she was branded as developmentally delayed. Edited November 25, 2017 by Toaster Strudel 4 Link to comment
parrotfeathers November 25, 2017 Share November 25, 2017 (edited) I watched both episodes today. So easy to second guess. So much the boy could have done to reveal this sham before killing the woman. What an easy out for her it was. Now she doesn't get her real punishment. The girl had access to her computer. I just wonder why she didn't contact a TV reporter and let them know. But she managed to meet this dude in the bathroom for sex. She could have stood up in the movie theatre and walked and said "I can walk!" They were all disturbed. Pondlass1 November 25, 2017 Share November 25, 2017 How often did she see her father? Did she stay with him for periods of time? Did she walk when she stayed with him? Why didn't he figure something was wrong? I don't know if Dr. Phil had been cautioned or censored in terms of the questions he could ask... but he didn't ask the obvious questions imo. I wish he'd had the father on the show not just clips. There should be avenues for doctors suspecting parents of having Munchhausen to report their suspicions to the authorities. But in this case nothing was done. Just transfer to another doctor. It's all so strange. And having perfectly good teeth removed - her saliva glands removed... who does this without testing first? And how much money was the mother making from all this? I didn't realize the government payout for handicapped children was so exorbitant. I would have thought it easier for the mother to just get a job. 1 Link to comment

I didn't realize the government payout for handicapped children was so exorbitant. I would have thought it easier for the mother to just get a job. Mama spent a lot of time "doctor-shopping." As soon as one turned her down for a surgery request, she'd go to another doctor. I suspect she was on Medicaid for medical treatment, and the government is notorious for NOT finding out fake claims. That's why some doctors rake in millions of dollars in false payments. Not enough government employees are looking for fraud. Dad? Do you really think Mama was allowing him anywhere near the kid? If he had other kids (I wasn't paying close attention), it was easier for him to focus on that life, since Mama and daughter were being taken care of financially by the rest of us. Habitat for Humanity got scammed big time. If Mama were still alive and this story came out, they should have sued her for falsely profiting from them. I must say this, though. I had really bad belly pain one day and went to the emergency room. They did an ultrasound and found gallstones. They suggested I see a surgeon. I had been to a general surgeon for a minor issue, so called his office. Got an appointment the following Monday and told him what happened. He pressed on my tummy a bit (the gallstone attack was over), and I just told him where it had hurt - although I was no longer in pain. What I did say was, "I'm leaving on a cruise in 10 days, and this needs to be dealt with right away so I don't have another attack on the ship. He asked me, "Did you have breakfast this morning?" "Yes." "Well, then, I can't do it today. Meet me at the outpatient surgical center tomorrow, and we'll take it out." So he took out my gallbladder with no actual testing that he had seen that proved what I was saying. Maybe that's how Mama got things done. And if one doctor won't believe her, she goes to another. 1 Link to comment
Gigi43 November 26, 2017 Share November 26, 2017 (edited) I rarely watch Phil but I saw a commercial for the Gypsy episode and it caught my attention. I understand that there are inefficient greedy doctors out there. I have a hard time with the fact that the mom said "Gypsy can't eat" and they put in a feeding tube (and I think had the fundiplication that goes with it.) That's a really big decision. I don't remember it but I was very sick as a baby because of a neuromuscular condition I had trouble both breathing and swallowing. The decision to give me a tracheostomy was less invasive and the doctors/my parents waited almost a year before taking that step. There are other methods they used first. No one suggested Gypsy have an eating therapist? I had one once I was about 3 to build up swallowing muscles. I didn't catch if Phil had actual documentation or just Gypsy's word. Also the way Gypsy described having the tube changed was misleading. I never went to an ER other was done in my house first by a nurse than my mother. Hell even when I had it taken out for good my doctor just did it in his office and I went to school the next day (though I did eventually have the hole closed during another surgery since it didn't completely close.) I watched most of the HBO special this weekend after seeing this and I didn't see actual evidence of it. Of course I could have missed it. Also the diagnosis of Muscular Distrophy would probably be a second, third and fourth guessed since it's very rarely found in females. That's some run with shady physicians. Also the walking is suspect. She had to be allowed to walk in her house to be able to walk as well as she could with out trouble from lack of use. In the HBO version she dressed up as a "sexy" personality to send to the boyfriend. It was a costume that didn't fit at all with the other ones the mother would let her have. So she had to have a bit more freedom to do that plus talk to a guy on the Internet. No doubt from the head shaving, teeth and pictures in the chair means the mother put her through terrible things yet the way Gypsy is describing everything seems heightened. marionette November 27, 2017 Share November 27, 2017 The show about Gypsy left me scratching my head. She said herself that she has developed into a very good liar. If she wasn't allowed to do anything or go anywhere, where did she get those costumes and makeup? Her mother (if the story is completely true) would not have allowed her little girl to have such things. The whole story is really troubling because I suspect that Gypsy was part of the whole scam. There is no one left to disclaim anything she says. Also, how does someone with no education know how to use a computer and make pornographic messages? Something does not compute here. 2 Link to comment
flyingdi November 27, 2017 Share November 27, 2017 Maybe the whole boyfriend thing was some sort of new scam Dee Dee was trying out that blew up in her face. After all, a boyfriend for Gypsy could have provided a new source of income now that Gypsy was growing up. Link to comment
Toaster Strudel November 28, 2017 Share November 28, 2017 Feel free to delete the rapper episode un-watched. The show is a complete waste of time with a male 'rapper' version of cash-me-ousside and the last quarter is TD Jake religious propaganda. 8 Link to comment
charmed1 November 28, 2017 Share November 28, 2017 I'm not sure what the purpose of the pet food family episode was, but I'm sure there was no reason for Phillip to show the guests a giant Jumbotron photograph of his precious grandchildren. Good luck to the smack addict, I guess. She looks like she's at death's door. I held my breath thinking he just might be crazy enough to peddle some of his wife's skin cream to her, but he didn't. Since she was shown just as the credits were rolling, I'm assuming he squeezed in her segment to compensate for the first guests not showing up. Link to comment

marionette November 29, 2017 Share November 29, 2017 I think the comments above really sum up what this show has become. It is just Phil and his family business. He does not care at all about any of the guests. You can see that he is just putting up with them until it is time to flog scarecrow's miracle products. He becomes all animated as soon as this happens. It is just sickening. The show has become a joke. I cannot believe that someone that is supposedly a doctor can be so insensitive to people that are suffering. I enjoy watching shows that delve into human problems and seeing some of them get the help they need. I would watch anyone that did this so Phil can retire anytime soon so someone else can have a turn. Maybe they wouldn't have skinny to parade around and not have MysonJay who is a publisher or numerous tiny gorgeous bottles of miracle product that were personally developed, but hey, I can live with that..... 5 Link to comment

charmed1 November 30, 2017 Share November 30, 2017 (edited) I have no understanding of today's guest's disorder. How on earth do you have an entire boyfriend when you're asleep for 90% of the day? How do you apply a full face of perfect Snooki make-up if you're getting ready in the dark? Why and when did you have a semi-professional photography session in the creek if you felt you're too ugly to be seen in the light of day? I personally hate taking pictures because I think my smile is too gummy and I hate the way I look in photos. I'll be damned if I'm arranging a honky tonk photo shoot down by the river to show off my chompers. Why do you care if said boyfriend is looking at other women? You're asleep for 90% of the day. Does it really matter? I thought for sure, this would be the perfect guest to pawn Robin's face crap shit to, but alas, she's just going to rehab. I also thought it was pretty shitty of Phillip to show unflattering photos of his "friends" without makeup on his Jumbotron. Especially when those photos are clearly from one of those "look how fug these celebrities are without makeup" websites that his young staff probably googled. cooksdelight December 1, 2017 Share December 1, 2017 She’s on disability??? For what??? I’m with PsychoKlown, what am I doing wrong? A young girl rented part of our former home, for about 3 months. She left in the middle of the night because she’d moved in with a boyfriend and his family, without telling us. Next thing, she’s posting that they’re engaged. A week later he’s in the hospital after trying to commit suicide. She quits a good-paying job to go to FL and work in a mall after breaking up with him. And she’s constantly posting how ugly or dumb she is. I fully expect her to be on this show one day. I don’t believe the kidnapped model either. I think she was looking for publicity, sympathy, more modeling jobs. Link to comment

YES!! 4 hours ago, Pondlass1 said: I agree. I'd like to see some follow up stories. He's always sending people off to these places but we never hear any more about them. Was anyone actually helped? As far as addicts go, probably not many. It is impossible to gather statistics on rehab success but it is a widely held belief that the percentage is quite low. Any therapy based help, relies on the individual. Therapists don't cure anyone, they light the way and you have to do the work. So there are probably not the kind of successes that would make a good show. I think some may improve their situations but not bowl us over on a TV episode. As for mental illness, the patient often gets better but again not a huge success for a follow up. I am bored with his show and watch maybe 30% of the episodes. Anyone else have the feeling that things are not going all that well in his private life? He has stopped giving examples of his good marriage and he lacks enthusiam. He is older now (67) so he is slower on the uptake and talking off the cuff. I live with post its everywhere to remind myself of everything outside of breathing so I don't fault him for that.
