Days Of Our Lives: Beyond Salem’ To Release Soundtrack From Peacock Spinoff

If the drama wasn’t enough on Beyond Salem, the team behind the Days of Our Lives spinoff on Peacock have created a way for fans to enjoy the short-term sudser long after the last episode drops today.

D. Brent Nelson and Ken Corday produced another 44-minute score soundtrack chapter 2 that’s now available across all digital platforms.

Released by Corday Productions, Inc., the album was recorded at Eastwood Scoring Stage on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, Calif. Nelson and Corday hired a 44-piece live string orchestra and a harpist to help set the tone for the second iteration.

“There are places in our show where a cinematic approach enhances the storytelling in a big way,” said Nelson in a statement. “Yes, we are absolutely pushing the envelope in terms of putting music to picture in our genre… And sure, we could settle for a string section half this size. But why? 44 strings sound amazing, especially on the Eastwood Stage at Warner Bros. It’s very exciting and so much more fun doing it this way. There’s a sense of tradition and magic happening as the cues are being performed. For me, this is it. This is the thing.”

“This score for Beyond Salem as with the mothership, Days of our Lives, is always meant to enhance the story and in doing so only serves as a frame for the big picture” added Corday. “There are times when the music is played in scenes without dialogue and in those moments the composers have an amazing opportunity to enhance the story in a much more direct way. It has always been my greatest pleasure and creative outlet to have been able to score Days of our Lives since 1979. Beyond Salem has given us an opportunity to raise the bar and somewhat change the game of composing Daytime Drama.”

Nelson and Corday are Emmy-winning composers who have created the underscore for DOOL for more than 18 years.

Chapter 2 of the spinoff featured the return of DOOL super-couple Bo and Hope (Kristian Alfonso and Peter Reckell), as well as Deidre Hall as Dr. Marlena Evans, Drake Hogestyn as John Black, Stephen Nichols as Steve “Patch” Johnson, Mary Beth Evans as Kayla Brady Johnson, Lucas Adams as Tripp Johnson, and Camila Banus as Gabi Hernandez.

Overall I enjoyed this.  Yeah there were lots of issues but it still was closer to classic 80s soap than what's airing on the regular show.    I give credit to the show because it feels like they do reward fans by continuing to give us those supercouples..    They are all still there. It's amazing

I like Bo and I like Bope, but PLEASE, no more magic "back from the dead" devices!!  Now someone dies and there is absolutely no impact whatsoever because we KNOW that at some point they will be magically resurrected.  I've sort of been like "Yeah Chad, you're grieving, etc. blah, blah, blah."  How long before an Abby recast arrives?  We saw Jack have his organs donated,  we saw Stefano's body recovered after several days being buried,  we've seen actual funerals - hate to break it to the writers, but when someone is embalmed their veins are filled with embalming fluid - not conducive to not actually being dead.  Yet we're supposed to believe that after Bo was embalmed and buried somehow this Maggie person got his body and cryogenically froze it?  Because she was obsessed with him 30 something years ago?  (People on soaps, REALLY never have a life, do they?)  If they really want to bring the actor back, bring them back as someone who looks like the original person - or just bring them back as someone else without actually mentioning that they look like someone else (looking at you Josh Taylor.)  I'm OK if the person disappears and is presumed dead a la Nick in the river, Jan in the river, even Ciara in the exploding car and they never found a body, but I hate it when we've seen an actual dead body and funeral and somehow it counts for nothing.

Unless the actor dies in RL or the character is of no use to them yes I sadly agree. That being said unless the actor dies in RL they shouldn't bother with the presumed dead plots on this show.

his death was beautifully done though.   Also I thought PR wanted to get killed off because he didn't plan to return and KA was staying

That's exactly it I wasn't bothered by them killing off Bo for that reason. It was better than his original exit where he just left with no explanation as if anyone would think he would abandon his family.  I do think they shouldn't have done a brain tumor though.

The brain tumor was stupid. The whole thing was stupid. They aged up Ciara so he was stuck in captivity for...ten years (?) Over some Alzheimers cure that only gives you psychic abilities?!

It was like a bad idea ontop of a bad idea.

When Carl was written off Another World, they set up the idea he had a brain tumor before killing him off. Then, they brought him back having survived brain surgery but with amnesia, so he could barely remember who he was. So yeah, it was clearly all about the BTS maneuvering, but story-wise it still made sense...

But the Bo stuff was incredibly poorly planned, with Caroline coming back sans Bo and years passing without explanation. Surely Peter could have done a "phone call" audio recording to keep up the idea he was working a case. He could have come back to Salem with a way to permanently convict Stefano....but nope. They go with Bo being secretly imprisoned for ten years!

Throwing Aiden under the bus too was terrible.

There were a dozen better ways to write it.

This show hasn't been well written in ages, so this is no surprise. The truth is, a character as popular as Bo should not have had such a definitive death to begin with. He should have had an open-ended "death" like Hope had.

Yeah, Peter Reckell likely said he was done, but people change their minds.

(Carl on Another World is a different animal, as he was 99% a villain during his time on that show, so that was all messed up, anyway. As for Aiden? As I said before, I think Bo was thrown under the bus for HIM, so I consider it karma...)

The whole "Heaven" plotline is so cheesy.  How in the heck did Megan Hathaway manage to be in 2 places at the same time?  She was shown in Venzuela with John & Steve, and the next scene she is in Canada, spying on Hope's wedding?  Steve Burton is not a good actor: he has One facial expression.  I like new Joey, I wish Tripp was still on regular DOOL, since I like the vibe between the 2 brothers.  I like Wendy Shinn, she is sassy.  How did Marlena & Kayla just suddenly pop up in Hong Kong?  I guess John & Steve are brain-washed?  The whole plot-line for this "Beyond Salem" is so contrived, yet I continue to watch :)

Watched the first ep. So much cheese.

Loved seeing Hope.

Ciara is still awful.

Steve Burton…ugh. This is definitely not GH where SB’s character would have immediately won that fight.

What’s up with Joey’s mustache? I was going to call it a porn stache, but it screams more dirtbag to me.

Should I know who Stefano’s daughter is?

Megan Hathaway was an old GF of Bo's you could say she was the original Jan Spears. Hathaway is her adoptive name but she was biologically Stefano's child.

Nobody is ever dead on Days.

So this Phil guy that Thomas Banks shot was Vincent Van Patten, who is Eileen's husband.

The age limit for the Navy is 39.  Steve Burton is a little old for that.

So Harris is an expert at knots, huh, Hope? Hmmm.

Chris Kostichek.  That's funny.

The bad guys just hung around the gym on the off chance that Andrew and Paul might show up and might get into the hot tub?

Gabi is a designer, why is she wearing somebody else's gown? That designer dress is fugly as hell.

How does an alleged Navy Seal afford that rock?

Ew.  Li was all sweaty.

Ben says she's dead and then checks for a pulse?

They just leave Hope lying there?

I'm glad Gabi is going to be on the lookout for a guy who has no idea what his name is or what he looks like.

I guess Claire doesn't exist in Bo's universe. Nor Shawn Christian.

And Hope doesn't care about her mother.

Yeah, that was Scott Shilstone, who played dream Zack and evil Wyatt.

If DiMera security was as good as Li said it was, how did Steve and John get in with guns?

Kayla's dress is very pretty.

Well. Interesting ending.

Maybe Stevie got a little confused and thought that 39 was the top I.Q. limit for the navy instead of age?

In which case he knows he be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay okay since his I.Q. isn't within shouting distance of 9.

Good to see Stone Cold brought his "Dead Like Me" energy to DOOL.

Was Burton supposed to be a new recruit?  It is 39 to join the Navy. They don’t kick you out.

I thought the timing of the stuff with Zack was weird. And I thought having Hope go back after he said wanting his mother was his last thought was a choice (I would have cut that line) but hey Bo might not have said goodbye at all. Bye Zack we hardly knew you.  Your parents don’t think much of you but more than they think of Shawn and way more than they think of Claire so….

It bugged me that nobody helped Loretta pronounce Beauregard correctly. She sounded like she was stumbling over it every time and yet they purposely kept it in the script.

Also, she went from being super obsessed with keeping him from watching his family drama to literally helping him break all the rules, with almost no transition. Weird.

So, I started cringing so hard during the Bope dance - nice arm extension there, KA - that I had to stop watching this series a few weeks ago. I finally caught up.

This whole plotline with the evil husband/not husband/secret agent guy was just wasted screentime. The actor is good, but there wasn't really room for him to be developed in these five episodes. In fact, I kinda preferred the guy who courted Billie in the last one and felt he had a better arc. This new guy felt like a combination of that last guy and Aiden.

...seriously: did we need to see Hope almost marry Mr Wrong again? Can't Bo be her hero without having to perpetually save her from the brink of death from some other man on her wedding day? It's tired.

It was strange that Hope's encounter with the spirit of her son (at the Horton cabin years ago) was not remembered in the script. Here, she seemed surprised to see Zach fully grown. Umm...that's exactly how he looked a few years ago Hope - remember?

Ciara was a total pain in the ass. I will not miss this character. She became everything Abigail once was...in skankier clothing. I think they should have given her character a bit more of a send-off since she's no longer on the show, but whatever. I won't miss her anyway.

Paul and Theresa's brother were...okay. I didn't feel any chemistry. In fact, I think it would have been more interesting for them to be gay friends than to be a gay couple. But hey, I doubt we'll see Paul again soon, so whatever. At least he's getting a better ending here than "fell out a window, becoming crippled and getting dumped".

I couldn't understand the first scene that showed us Marlena and Kayla were in Tokyo. It was so fast and out of nowhere. Marlena was mid-sentence and suddenly the ladies were hugging their husbands and...it felt like maybe they'd cut out a scene that established the two of them had arrived in Tokyo. Anyone else feel thrown by that?

I'm royally sick of the brain chips/brainwashing plots. No Marlena, saying "I love you" to someone who isn't in their right mind won't magically overcome whatever is causing them to act crazy. That should never work, it's really stupid, and I'm so flipping tired of it. Even Deidre seems sick of it.

And as usual, because of limited budget and running time, significant moments were cut out. No sequence of Andrew subduing John in battle after the gas attack...no actual chase scene following John escaping from the party...no scene of Steve getting his marbles back...they just jump over entire sections of the story...

...and yet still make time for "who cares?" stuff, like endless repetitive chats between Angella and Bo. None of them were amusing. His screen-time was really rather wasted.

But I guess he's...coming back? I suppose they're just leaving the door open for Bo to return for the series finale. I doubt he's coming back in the next few months.

It's sad to me that they don't even give much thought anymore to how these character survive death. Meagan's alive with little explanation...Bo even less so (or will be)...Ron just plays willy-nilly with life and death. It's silly.

I did, however, like seeing Tripp and Joey bond/banter/butt heads. It's a shame they weren't on the regular show together, dealing with Ava. They have very different relationships with her, obviously.

Li's sister was...okay. Not bad. Not especially charismatic either though.

I thought the sets were okay, and they didn't make the prisms too powerful, unlike the stupid Peacock laser death thingy. So overall I liked this edition of Beyond Salem much better.

...and I CHEERED at the sight of Sister Mary!!! WOOHOO! Loved that twist. Great to see Thomas and Mary Moira tussling. Though we didn't get any final scene with them. Did MM allow her wayward brother to escape? Did she turn him in? How did she even know about his job in Montreal? Wish we could have known.

And was there a line about 911 not working in Canada? Um....yeah, it does. Come on, writers.

Overall, an okay show but I'd have preferred less fake husband, less heavenly banter and more actual Bo/Hope screentime. Couldn't we have skipped the wedding stuff and just had Hope in the first episode about to track down a perp only to end up near-death and in heaven with Bo? That would have saved a lot of time and gotten us to the good stuff quicker.

Decent but...campy and disappointing still. These could be so much better with just a little effort in the writing and directing departments. And thankfully Ben was not the center of attention.

As far as giving fans what they wanted RE Bope - not so much. This felt like a rehash that added little, which is too bad. But PR and KA really, really brought the sincerity to it, which was appreciated and nice to see.

It seems pretty clear to me that, for whatever reason, PR and KA do not want to share screentime.  They shine when together on-screen, but someone believes it is better to keep them apart.  I won't blame the headwriter, since the "final" PR return in 2015 followed the same pattern, and that was pre-Ron.

I don't know if its Corday, or producer group-think, or one of the two actors.  TPTB seem to think a single-episode payoff is best.

Really? At this point they've seemingly buried the hatchet I thought....but you're right. Peter is only with her as much as is needed and no more.

...Controversial Opinion here but ...Pete hasn't aged all that well and the show is in shambles...is it really worth it bringing Bo back to life? I don't see the point, though I love the character. It just seems like beyond an "exciting" resurrection he'd just end up standing around with nothing to do like the other good guys on the show.

They've played the Bope nostalgia to the hilt already. If there's nothing new to be said about them as a couple...maybe let it go?

Yeah she hasn't been as well developed.

Something just occured to me: Bo gets the go-ahead from Angella to return to the world of the living...but isn't thinking of Zach?

I'm not saying the show should bring him back to life as an adult after all these years - that would be ghastly - but as a parent with a kid who died before he could live much of a life, I'd think Bo would prefer Zach to have the second chance.

I have to agree I do think Bo would sacrifice himself for Zach.

Hope suffered the same fate of many females on this show who are in a supercouple pairing where they don't have much of an existence beyond their male counterpart. I mean I guess Jennifer was an exception as they prefer her over Jack but they at least had her deal with the dramas of her children. I don't get why they didn't do that with the others if they weren't going to fully invest in another pairing for these women.

That's why it pays to be a Marlena or a Sami where they were allowed to have multiple pairings and can exist without a man if needed.

When the show goes full time on Peacock, is this forum going to be necessary any more?

Are you specifically talking about this thread or the forum?

Once the show moves to Peacock, the discussion will be in the General Discussion thread. The forum will still be around.

This thread will still be around to discuss past specials or any future digital series.  For all we know, they still might try to do a week-long special here and there since the specials use a combination of current characters and old characters and are unrelated to the ongoing shov.

So, Beyond Salem Season 2 has shown up on W Network's on-demand. Watched the first ep this evening.

I was disappointed that we didn't get a teaser like the X Files 'Triangle' episode, with a life preserver in the Sargasso Sea/Bermuda Triangle. Instead, two randoms who got killed.

Yeah, Ciara, you can be mad at your mom, but she does have her own life. You expected her to do A,B, and C, and D. Kinda rude to grill her. She did have a point in asking you how long you planned to stay. There are practical things like food to shop for or order online and pick up or have delivered. The baby seems a little young to be scared of grandma.

I thought Paul's Pride party seemed lame. But then again, I am old, and maybe parties were different. Nice to meet Andrew Donovan.

The exploding pizza was new. Have missed Tripp, but not really Joey.

The name Megan Hathaway was from a long time ago.

Bo in Heaven or a wannabe Philly Cream Cheese Angel (here in Canada we do have a Philly Cream Cheese Angel), and the woman who reminded me of Paulina - he messed up - uh, what powers does he have and why would he be watching the Earth Livestream channel? Hope can move on without him.

Watched part 2 and 3 today.

Did like 'Kristen's' YSL Tribute sandals. Yeah, I know some shoes by their names. Don't remember Thomas Banks. Kinda an unattractive sort.

Larry Welch has aged.

The whole Heaven thing is weird. No, Bo, you don't get to get any say in what happens to your wife now that you are dead. Or maybe semi-dead. You can't just ask for a second chance.

No idea who this Steve Burton person is but didn't care for him. At least Hope had a few brain cells to wonder why some strange dude was lovebombing her. Ciara, you should have just sailed away. I would hope that Hope was wearing a bullet proof vest under her gown. Seemed to be quite the wedding for a last minute thing.

So they all stay in the same Hong Kong hotel?

Wendy Shin could or could not be fun. Did like seeing Tripp again.

The only male child of the Banks quintuplets (Susan, who we know well, Sister Mary, who we also know well, Penelope, who is dead and grew up in England away from the others, and Thomas, the black sheep).

Thomas was basically a gag for Eileen to play yet another character, this one a man. He was barely seen in the 90s and was involved in crime to some degree. This is really only his second appearance essentially, and a good one IMHO.

I watched part 4 today.

Um, 911 also works in Canada.

Way too much time spent on Bo and Hope in Heaven.

No idea how all those people got to Hong Kong so fast unless they used the Star Trek transporter. It's a long flight from Venezuela to Montreal, a long flight from Venezuela to Hong Kong, a long flight from Seattle to Hong Kong, a long flight from Salem to Hong Kong. And they all arrived refreshed and with no jet lag.

The party is a casino night. Not much dancing.

So Hope goes back, time rewinds and Sister Mary Moira instead lets the gun go off to injure Hope's boyfriend.

And only one prism.

I forgot all about the Gloria Loring song.
