Re: Colts Job

So first we will not see any real coding, that is just issues about ownership/privacy.

Ok so after checking his Github and Linkden is seems he works for a  company that makes machines for casinos, that could explain the slot machine in the apartment. Konami Gaming, Inc has become mostly about gambling software but was an OG gaming company.

If he is fulltime time his salary should be pretty decent  70-80k although they don't have the best benefits.

He went to a video game development orientated college which is.... risky. Especially he is wants to work on actually video games.

This seems to be him right?

5232686.jpg

Oooo Konami!  I'd love to work for a company like that....fun!

Whatever money he makes it's enough to live on his own.  His guilt of taking care of his mom since his dad is gone is admirable but it's stunting his emotional growth and making the bond even harder to break.  His mom used all of her grief loss to provide a stranglehold onto her son.....she knows better but she can't do better right now unfortunately.

Unfortunately for both of them Larissa is materialistic and speaks spotty english.  So even if she could soften her approach of using materialistic things as something she values to show affection for her,  she just comes off as a spoiled demanding shrew.

I'm going to assume that even if she was just using him for his money and green card that she would know not to come off as a demanding materialistic whore because that's an obvious red flag for men who want to live in the fantasy that there is true affection instead of a transaction of sex for a green card.   If she doesn't she'd better learn quick or learn more english because that's just too easy for Momma to point out to her Cat-son that she is not better than Momma.

This will be a very interesting storyline IMO and we will get to see how much he values sex over his mom.   He wants both but that clearly won't fly.

I cannot get over how cheap Eric was, buying one Philly cheesesteak sandwich for the four of them! Sure, they're big, but still! No drinks, no forks. That's class.

She doesn't understand about the child support because she herself doesn't get any. I'm sure that living in that cramped little apartment and paying child support, Eric is probably barely making ends meet, and he probably has complained to her about it a great deal as well during their romantic video chats. I'm gonna give her a little leeway for the cultural differences here, because she really doesn't understand how we do things in the United States. She may not even realized that Eric's wages were garnished.

I doubt she was married, not if Eric is planning on adopting her kid (a way to keep her tied to him), cause his real father would have to agree to it.

I guess grandma and grandpa  picked up the initial expenses

To quote Dick Ritchie in True Romance (the actor is now a Real Housewives Super Fan), this guy hasn't 'got a pot to piss in, or a window to throw it out'. So, where IS the money coming from?!

Someone broke it down as cost of the visa for Olga starting at $500+ for the initial application. Flight to Russia to be with her as the baby is born (plus accom, food), passport to go to Russia for him and presumably visa also. The rest of the cost of HER visa, plus passport and visa for baby. Flights for all of them back to the States. THEEENN, where are they going to live? Different couches from his many crashpads? Baby requirements. A car? Where is the money coming from ? Did his Dad leave him a trust fund?

Is it his Deadhead grands? I'd get that, as they seem lovely people who come minus the wool over their eyes concerning Later Skater grandson. Also, there was evidence of kids stuff around their house, so maybe they are looking out for their grandchild? Still. It's a lot and I hope that any money they are extending for this campaign comes with strings.

I wonder if that’s a new apartment , maybe he upgraded to impress her.

He needs to show  her the strip at night. It doesn’t  look so seedy then.

unless she really goes all out in bed, I don’t know if he’s going to be so quick to throw momma from the train.

Jonathan's friends tore Fernanda (whose imitation of the Southern accent made me laugh) apart the second they were out of earshot and the cameras were off. I have no doubt. The casual racism they were throwing out when they were talking about the wall was a big clue. At least the one with the backwards hat had a look on his face like "dude, you're saying the quiet part out loud and on television." (I don't know what that bread was, but it was nobody's cornbread.)

My gaydar goes off with Jonathan. I think he could be deep in the closet. The panties Fernanda found, could be a red herring/badge of honour for him: better she think me a player. Anything to take the light off the possibility he's not totally hetero. Which would be sad for him, but terrifying for her. His choice of a child bride is weird and creepy, especially with a timeline that puts their relationship beginning around the time she left high school. I thought his friends were ghastly and cruel to Fernanda too. I say 'deep' in the closet also because of the state of frat boy filth he appears to live in happily. Although, did I hear incorrectly or did he at some time explain that he didn't have furniture or a bed because he wanted to pick those things out with her?

Leida - I actually now believe she is from a wealthier family. Their accents was enough to tell me that - it sounds like they went to English schools, and possibly spent time abroad (maybe in Australia). They may have even gone their for university

Australian universities continue to decline due to the privatisation of what were once world class institutions of learning. This involves relying HEAVILY on full fee paying students from overseas. it's a huge racket here. Given that somewhere i read that Leida has her qualifications recognised in Canada (and another place, can't remember), it did make me think she may have possibly done some schooling here. But it's not a meritocracy. If you have the bucks, you can buy your way into a course. You may FAIL that course, but more bucks will buy you extra time also. Universities and other places of higher learning here are being criticised heavily for ensuring the 'user pays' experience continues to result in more full fee paying students. It is in the interest of their bottom lines to ensure that the full fee paying students have a 'good experience' and if this means passing them when they fail, this has happened and is happening.

Leida could very possibly fit this scenario. Life is VERY cheap in Indonesia. Her parents' money would not buy maids, drivers, chefs, nannies in a Western country. And she isn't really living in a palatial mansion by our standards. Her video of her parents' house was pretty basic. I wouldn't be assuming there are flush toilets or even running hot water. It costs NOTHING to have house help. A lot of domestic workers might live in the compound with the family, in a shack out the back with the chickens, I've seen it. And they are grateful not to be trying to fend for themselves in the streets. I wonder what sort of 'disgrace' Leida has bought upon the family with a child born out of wedlock. Was it out of wedlock? REgardless, the male scion, Alessandro, will be their main concern and the reason that Reina, the sister, is chaperoning. I'm sure the family would be possibly relieved that an American is taking difficult Leida off their hands, but Alessandro is another matter. I think this is an issue because Eric is straight in there saying he will adopt Alessandro. The family is probably beside itself with this, and I'm sure Eric knows it.

I don't see an upside for Alessandro being in the States. I think he will be better looked after where he is loved and cared for in Indonesia. Different if his mother knew how to care for him and his basic needs, but she so obviously doesn't. Eric's 'old family' (HIS words, ffs) are not going to be able to offer him the security and love his Indonesian family will give him. He will grow up in a low income area with not a great deal of family support. He'd truly be better off doted on by his grands and aunt/s back home. I think Leida has some personality issues too. I fear for her child in this situation.

She weeps if you say you'll eat her stew later because you're not hungry now!

I don't like Debbie at all, she looks very low-IQ, but smart enough to cunningly manipulate and scheme to stifle her son from becoming a fulfilled, independent adult. She lied about "keeping the house empty" so that Larissa could decorate it to her taste, and not buying a couch so that Larissa could pick one she liked.

Colt spent more time touching Mother than Larissa in the segment.

I don't believe Colt even likes Larissa. He likes the idea of showing her off to strangers (he has no friends) as a status symbol. He's already condescending to her.

For these reasons I'm rooting for the gold digger. You go girl, get that bigger house. Kick Debbie out and let her take that precious slot machine with her. Get that pool. Get that AC in the car. Move to a different city.

Colt, you cheap mound of flab, you want to marry a 10, better loosen the purse strings.

Why would he think a vibrant young woman would want to live in a depressing house with his mother? I swear some of these men look at these women as blow up dolls, they don't think about what they are going to do with them outside the bedroom.

Ashley the bartender is really cute, she did not have to go to another country to find a man like some of these shlubs like Danielle.

I am so so late in watching this episode!!!!  It was Halloween week.

Colt /Larrissa- He may have some social issues, but I get a feeling that some of it is acting; like he is playing a part.  They are so awkward together.  Maybe they have a deal to be on this show and make some cash? Is this his mother's house and he lives with her or is it his house and she lives with him?

Patriot Eric and his maid- Ledia doesn't seem that attached to her kid.  She's screwed up in relationships before so her entire family is going to check Eric poor out before letting her marry him.  the "cabin" was an apt. and is way nicer than Eric's real apt.  Put it in proper??? She's a freak.

Steven and Olga- snore.  He's an idiot but I do admire him at least trying to make things work with a girl he knocked up for the sake of the child.

NC Ken and Mexican boob Barbie- She is WAY better than him and his friends.  I think his friend group is weird and they are probably all ignorant racists that have a secret plan to break them up.  At 19 she seems more mature than all of them. She is my favorite person on this installment and her worst quality is her taste in men. the friends' house- It is probably their real house; property is cheap in NC; I looked up the town on zillow......Jon must be saving money for something or bought the smallest house in a good area b/c he lives in a box and as a real estate agent could do better..... maybe his house is an investment house- he bought it with the plan to rent it out and move on to something better with Barbie.

Who am I missing?????

Moani and Samoan guy- He's a sweet heart; major props to him for trying to make it work and be a family.  I think she's going to always be embarrased of him.  He was cute with his son.  I'm glad her mom was nice to him.  She needs to stop bad mouthing him.

Dried up Jessica Simpson and Jay- they are boring and gross.

This comment is about the sneak peek of the upcoming episode they showed on Friday night:  Eric eats likes a barn animal.  I don’t think he closed his mouth once.

I also don’t think he even asked Leida and her sister what they wanted to eat or if they even wanted to try that kind of sandwich; they seemed pretty skeptical about it. Leida did not want to use her hands to eat.  A decent person would have gone back to the place he bought the sandwich and asked for some forks.   I’d bet money that Eric wrapped up whatever was left of that sandwich and took it back to the cabin with him.

My gosh !! Those Indonesian sisters -- they were so rude when they were talking to what's his name (sorry, I can't recall names yet -- too early in the season). They sure turned their noses up at that cabin, and the breakfast that they didn't have to cook for themselves.

I am torn by Colt -- I know others have mentioned he might be on the spectrum due to this inability to discern her emotions, yet he spoke very eloquently to his mom, when he said he hoped they would grow together, and they would need their privacy.

The NC realtor and the child bride....his friends seemed very welcoming to her.

Unless I’m remembered incorrectly, one of the realtors friends talked about all the crime in Mexico. Basically bashing it. Fernanda had to defend it. She couldn’t say everything in English so bf had to help her. She was basically saying go fuck yourself but very nicely.

there was one chick who had a nasty look on her face the whole time. Bet she was in love with him.

I wouldn't put proprietary code up, but I also wouldn't try to pass off CSS as "software engineering" on television where people who actually know the difference would see it. At the very least I would have at the very least used something written in a programming, not markup, language to illustrate the kind of work that I do.

Since it was CSS, I'd ball park his salary at 40-50K, not 75-80. I can get a full-stack software engineer with experience for 80K. The people who do markup for front end and are limited in skills to only that get a lot less, like 50-60% of what the full-stack developer is bringing down.

Jon's  "best friend" (I think her name is Dani)....the first thought I had was that she was in love with him and is going to be nasty to Barbie.  Next week it looks like she makes her cry.  I'm sure she thinks her life is a rom com and that Jon is eventually going to love her back.

I know, right? Debbie is a Grade A manipulator with a Darcey cry face. And, I think she may outdo Danielle for number of cries in a season... that's no easy record to break!  She's crying because HER life is no longer the same.  Don't worry, Debbie! Larissa will be gone in two years and you'll have Coltie back all to yourself. I'm rooting for the golddigger, too!

Debbie knows that her waterworks command her son's attention so I imagine that we'll be seeing them quite a bit. I don't like this woman at all.

Watching Mr. Cheap put that sandwich in front of them like he was so proud of it... I'll bet that little boy was still hungry all afternoon until new stepdad decided to lay out the next big treat.

I feel sorry for Leida. Again, her family back home must make her feel pretty bad on a daily basis for her to be seeking comfort from this guy. In addition to everything else, she already seems a lot smarter than he is.

One podcaster said Colt's 'coding' was rubbish, another said that he was definitely 'coding'. Not sure what to think. Is Colt holding towers of Bitcoin that Larissa is unaware of? Where did they stay when he met her and visited her? She should have some idea of his parsimony by now. She obviously has an opinion on his looks, I still don't get how he looks kinda hot in some of the vacay snaps compared to the now. He COULD look good with a lifestyle change. I have no idea what the cost of living in Las Vegas is, but it seems from what I do know, that if you live there you 1. Need an a/c  house and 2. you absolutely need a comfortable (definitely a/c) car to get anywhere. Is Colt supporting Mother? I was going to say that Colt vacationing in Brazil doesn't seem like the kind of expenditure he could rationalise, then I realised that he met her on the internet. I doubt Colt sees the point in vacations and I can hear 'we live in Las Vegas!!' in response to Larissa wanting to go anywhere.

Colt does look different in the vacation pics.  It looks like he gained 50lbs since then.

I think Colt has catfished Larissa to some degree.  Yes.  He was more fit when he met her in person.  He probably stayed in a nice resort in Brazil, wine-ing and dining Larissa.   Told her how much he made to impress her.  Once he had her hooked, then then the real Colt came out.

If your beloved was coming from a foreign country, wouldn’t you want to put your best foot forward, look your best and make her feel comfortable?  Lose some weigh?  Fix your air conditioner in your car because you don’t want her to be uncomfortable?  Get her flowers?   Wouldn’t that be loving and considerate behavior?   Any guy who is crazy about a girl would at least do all that.   In fact, a guy who is crazy about a girl, would move out of his mother’s apartment and find a place of his own.

These American guys want these foreign girls because they can’t find decent woman here.   Sure.  The problem is them.  Woman are just another possession and not a valued possession at that.   American woman won’t put up with their behavior.

If Eric truly cares about Leida, then he’d be saving and doing without in order to have the funds to show Leida, her sister, and son a good time.  Not just throw them a sandwich and say have at it.  Pretty sure old Eric was not expecting Leida’s family to come out and give him the once over.  Bet he’s pissed about that.   He was expecting to just take Leida to his shared hovel and enjoy watching her bitch and complain.

It's Indonesia. It's the wild west to us Westerners. Life is cheap. It's predominantly a muslim country, but there are Christians, Buddhists etc as well. Indonesia is the largest Muslim country population wise in the world, or it used to be. I'm not sure what Leida's faith is, or if it even matters. They are much more conservative there though. VERY conservative. I've been to Bali a couple of times, which caters to westerners and has a large buddhist population. Leida is from Jakarta, the capital, a city with over 10 million people in it. Most of those people aren't living in western style accomodation either. I can't wait to meet Leida's parents when they arrive for more information at this point. I still think they are not so worried about ditching Leida but they'll not be parting with Alessandro, the male scion.

They were at Reading Terminal Market. They showed the sign very clearly. (Are you from Philly?)

If I were Larissa, I'd be so pissed. Driving me around in 115-degree heat with no air conditioning (!) and then I get to live with your mother in a house with no couch. Awesome!

Colt may have said he was going to let Larissa pick out their new couch, but I’m certain he’s going to reject everything that’s not in the clearance aisle, used,  or from the dent and scratch section of the furniture store.

And he’s not going to let her buy anything more than one couch—no side chairs, no love seat, no new tables or lamps. He won’t pay for anything other than a serviceable beige couch.

and didn't Leida looked THRILLED when he said that! I still can't get over Eric's presenting that cheese steak for four of them to share like he expected the "miracle of the loaves and fishes."

I’m sure he can direct them to a water fountain, this way they can taste that fab legendary Philly water.

My Jamaican acquaintance also wants a "Jewish accountant" to retire comfortably with.  So not that I know much about it but I heard it straight from a source so to speak. I'm a white woman and have dated my share of loser white men in the past and there is no shortage! Go go figure! I have no idea! I have however heard the stereotype of successful black men going for white women (ie: the movie "save the last dance) when Julia Styles' (blleeehhh) character is accused of taking the last decent guy in their neighborhood and having a chance at him bc she's white. So maybe a little bit going both ways? I don't know but love to hear your op.

I’m speaking from the perspective as an highly educated (I’m a lawyer) upper middle class black woman who’s parents wanted her to grow up in a much more multi cultural environment than they did (last 3 generations born and raised in Chicago IL)- I 100% understood what Kalani’s Dad meant when he said he didn’t want her to marry an Samoan man, but a white man; now I agree there’s a bit of self hate in there but it’s not out of malice. He believes that Kalani’s life would be easier married to a white man, and the more white passing his grandchildren are the easier their life will be (I didn’t say he was wrong).

The history of black women and our sexual autonomy in the USA leads to very different perspectives than a Samoan man may have, @Kdawg82 I don’t disagree with your post. The more successful a black woman becomes the fewer interactions she has with black men of similar education and earning power and the MORE interactions she has with similarly situated white men. And yeah under white patriarchy “whiteness” is a currency, for women it’s in the standard of beauty, for men it’s in social status/power and earning potential. I’m sure your friend (and anyone with half a brain) knows there are loser men (or women) of ANY race, but for a lot of black women I know, they think the chances of finding a white man that meets their standards (education, family life, courtship ritual, desire for marriage etc) is more likely, AND if a black man has the same accomplishments the black community fawns over him for “making it”, creating an egomaniac (and not a man she wants).

All that being said, Kalani is 28yrs old, she should’ve known better than to say that shit on tv. She could’ve said “my father wanted me to marry someone who could provide me with a life he felt I deserved, and Asuelu isn’t as sophisticated as he would’ve wanted” or something and kept him being Samoan OUT of it, the Internet could’ve infered it without her saying it.

@Scarlett45 that was a really insightful post. I posted that Kalani has hit out at how her Dad has been 'edited' to seem self hating. We have a big Samoan and Polynesian population here in Australia, and i've seen and heard similar when interacting with these families as a teacher. I understand where Low, the Samoan Dad, is coming from. He came to the US at 12 from Samoa so he'd have first hand experience with the difference in culture and the enormous challenge of succeeding in this environment . Of course he wants the best for his family. They live in Orange County and I bet he's worked his ass off for their lifestyle. It'll be interesting to see how this unfolds. I'm especially curious as to whether Kalani and Kalini are educated or have careers. Kalani has made some stupid errors speaking, she does seem to struggle a bit with expressing herself (see meeting with sister over the lie about Asuelu cheating). And now she's pissed at her 'edit'.

No, the Reading Terminal Market is in center city Philly, not in Reading, PA which is a couple of hours away.  It’s named for the Reading Railroad’s Terminal that now a huge indoor food market

Welcome to the Reading Terminal Market. One of America’s largest and oldest public markets, housed since 1893 in a National Historic Landmark building, the Market offers an incredible selection of locally grown & exotic produce, locally sourced meats and poultry, plus the finest seafood, cheeses, baked goods, and confections. You’ll find everything you need to create a memorable meal, from cookbooks, to table linens, to kitchenware, to fresh cut flowers, and more. Plus the widest variety of restaurants under one roof.

I spoke about this in another thread, but I’ve noticed that “white” is often used as short hand for “western” or “American” by persons NOT from the USA. (Which says a lot especially to black Americans who are distinctly not white) To Low a white guy is a symbol of success and cultural assimilation; it seems that he and Kalani’s Mom are still married, so if it worked for him, he feels this is best for his daughter. I’m not saying I agree with the man but Kalani needs to quit whining, she’s the one that put her business on tv for everyone to speculate about.

Also this is 2018- outside of very niche circles, if a “regular” woman (by that I mean not a model or a trophy, but a regular woman no matter how pretty) wants to partner with a successful man she has to bring something to the table (an education, and earning potential etc), in addition to shared life goals and compatible personalities*. Kalani is very pretty, but she’s 28, what else is she offering? Does she have a career? Same thing with Ashley, who is also very pretty (as well as blonde & thin) but has two children and is a bartender**, not that she cannot find men to date (I’m sure she can) but a guy of equal attractiveness to her who’s 31 with NO kids won’t be bothered outside of a casual thing.....

*I acknowledge that there are 7billion people on the planet and human beings can make an infinite combination of choices about their personal life, I am speaking of social TRENDS in the heteronormative frame work.

**Im not insinuating there’s anything wrong with being a single Mom or a bartender, she didn’t make those kids alone and bartending is honest work, BUT if she was just as pretty, 31 and a bartender with NO children this would be a different conversation. If she was 31 with two kids and a professional pulling in 6figures this would be a different conversation. Being pretty and a pleasant/fun person (even for women) only gets you so far.

She said child support was unheard of in her country. So men are not expected to support their children when a relationship ends. I wonder if they even bother visiting or do they just walk away?

I wouldn't be so quick to assume that, it could be like the Philippines and if the dad's family is in the better financial position then they take charge of the child even if no one goes to court to get a government enforced agreement.  Where as everywhere in the world there are the men who will pump and dump even if he impregnated the women no matter what most do in their parent society. It seems to me like sister/auntie may have missed their local marriage age window and she thought that she would be raising her nephew in lieu of her own child. Then Eric showed up

Bartenders usually work nights and sleep fairly late into the day, so the guy also would have to be cool with not seeing her much if he works traditional hours.

This is also true. I know many people who work in the performing arts (stage managers etc) and they have to meet someone “in the business” as their hours are opposite of the standard corporate work day.
