I'm a completionist! I have seasons 1-5 and rewatch them all the time. I want those last two seasons to complete my collection! Bah humbug. 2 1 1 Link to comment

Around Christmas, I treated myself the the complete series 'The Librarians', and hope to give it a binge-watch soon. I really liked the series, it reminded me a little of 'Eureka', 'Warehouse 13', and the like. 2 2 Link to comment

I started seeing mine the first day I got it (starting with the second go [1972-73]); of course, that day, or one of the days immediately following, was when I discovered that one of the discs was bad (that being the fourth disc of the sixth go (some of the episodes from 1977). I didn't try to return my purchase though, because I had grown up around WalMart store policy being that if it was an opened DVD or game or similar (even if to only check for damage), you could not get a refund; that has probably been the case ever since. 3 Link to comment
proserpina65 March 24, 2023 Share March 24, 2023 There aren't a lot of series which I've purchased on dvd, but there are a few: Firefly, I, Claudius, 800 Words, and I recently purchased The Last Kingdom since they look at me weirdly when I keep getting it at the local library. There are a few other shows where I have one or two seasons, for various reasons. And I have the first 3 seasons of Game of Thrones but couldn't afford it when season 4 came out and haven't managed to get seasons 4-8. I do intend to get the rest someday, although I will only purchase season 5 for completion's sake because THAT is the season which mostly sucked, not season 8. 2 Link to comment

I agree. Oh my God why was Dorne so boring? LOL I also love I, Claudius! I watched it for the first time several years ago--my late uncle recommended it to me--and I loved it so much that I immediately purchased my own copy and then preceded to rewatch it twice in a row before I could move on. I still rewatch it every couple of years. 1 2 Link to comment

The minute they decided to eliminate it being the only part of Westeros to allow the eldest child, no matter the sex, to inherit, I should've known it was doomed. Yes, I, Claudius is just fantastic. My best friend and I reference things from it all the time, even after all these years. (And the eye candy! Oh my!) 2 Link to comment
MaryMitch March 25, 2023 Share March 25, 2023 The Bonanza complete series set is finally scheduled for release May 23. They've been releasing individual seasons for several years now - a new season every couple years - but this will be an entire series set with a lot of extras. I've been buying the individual seasons and have 1-11 out of 14. They are also releasing individual seasons 12,13, and 14. I'm trying to decide if I'm anal enough to need the entire complete set in one package or if I should just complete my collection with the individual seasons. 2 1 Link to comment

Affogato March 18 Share March 18 (edited) More than I want, now. Some I’d get instead of cable stations. Buying one show usually better than the subscription. The commentaries on Futurama are worth the price of admission. I don’t own the simpsons, except for season 1, but the commentary tracks are great. They are smart, funny people and talk about so many details you don’t notice. Edited March 18 by Affogato 4 Link to comment
ProudMary March 24 Share March 24 Cool topic. I never realized this thread existed. I only own two complete sets of DVDs. The West Wing, which seems to be a popular choice here. I purchased the seasons individually as they were being released. Ally McBeal, which doesn't seem to have shown up on anyone else's lists. 😢 I have the boxed set of all five seasons of this Emmy-winning, David E. Kelly created gem. 4 Link to comment
Raja June 3 Share June 3 (edited) I recently found Hill Street Blues in a clearance rack as the stores once again cut the shelf space dedicated to disc. To that I would add The Wire. A bunch of other shows that I have were one or two seasons and done. so to add: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Band of Brothers Law & Order: LA Law & Order: Trial By Jury Vegas (the Dennis Quiad and Michale Chiklis 2012 show) Joan of Arcadia Freaks and Geeks, which the little girl who grew up in my home left with. Finally I just picked up the show which was even more true to my high school years than Freaks and Geeks, The White Shadow. Only it seems to be one of those shows which the last season was never produced for DVD for some reason so I got all that was available and not a soft reboot but rather the rebuilding year as half of the cast graduated high school Edited June 3 by Raja I forgot to add Joan of Arcadia 5 Link to comment
Milburn Stone June 29 Share June 29 I was in the hospital for an operation two years ago. When you're semi-sedated over the course of 5 days, you find some shows wonderfully engaging that you wouldn't normally. And that's why I have the complete series of Diagnosis: Murder. 😏 4 1 Link to comment
Dimity July 4 Share July 4 (edited) I have complete sets of quite a few shows, some I collected on my own, a few I inherited from my Mom. What's bothering me now is how much more difficult it is to complete sets! Either shows only had one or two seasons released on DVD (Murphy Brown for instance) or the prices are insane. I wanted to get My Three Sons on DVD and what they've done is split the seasons so for each year you need to buy Vol 1 and Vol 2. And while some are reasonable, some are pretty pricey. Do they actually want people buying DVDs anymore? Edited July 4 by Dimity Link to comment

Zella July 9 Share July 9 (edited) FWIW I work in a small rural library, and we have a lot of people who watch DVDs. They don't have streaming for whatever reason--can't afford it, internet not fast enough, don't have internet at home--and they find it really frustrating when newer releases aren't on DVD anymore. I think the powers that be are shooting themselves in the foot when they don't release newer material on DVD anymore. Edited July 9 by Zella 9 3 Link to comment

While streaming has definitely changed the entertainment landscape, physical media is the one way to keep the movies and TV shows I enjoy, especially the older stuff which is either not available or is prohibitively expensive even on Amazon. DVDs still matter, so I hope they stick around for a long time. 10 1 1 Link to comment

Quoting myself from a year and a half ago, now that the subject of increasing difficulty completing sets has come up again, to say the latter is indeed what happened: They never released the final season on DVD. So seasons one through six are available, but not season seven. WTactualF? And this is a show about people 70-80 years old, so - while it has plenty of young fans, too - the audience skews older, meaning even more likely to want DVDs rather than only have it available according to the whims of Netflix. I am seriously irritated by this. And all it did was cost them money, because now I haven't bought anything, when I would have bought all the seasons individually in the absence of a boxed set. Sure, if Netflix pulls availability, I'd at least be able to watch most of it if I bought the DVDs, but what kind of re-watch would it be without being able to see the final season (especially the series finale, which is one of my favorite finales ever)? Idiots. Edited July 10 by Bastet 4 Link to comment

GHScorpiosRule July 10 Share July 10 Plus, the streaming of movies and shows don't have the special features that the dvds/bluray/whatever comes next, offer. Like behind the scenes, interviews with cast, bloopers. I always get the bluray of whatever show I enjoyed when I was wee/tween/teen to the late 90s. And movies that I enjoyed. Streaming isn't always good-you have the issues where when a classic finally makes it to streaming, only to find out it's not the unedited version (See Designing Women on Prime) or the quality isn't that great, which I've just discovered with JAG, a show I loved and still enjoy. Finally all 10 seasons, unedited, but when the episode first opens, and when I fast forward scenes I don't care to rewatch, the picture quality blurs and the images look like something from the 70s squiggly-wiggly blurry and it takes a minute or two, which isn't very long, but can seem like it is, to clear up. And then there are the closed captioning! Sometimes, they get delayed and you see the captions a scene after so they don't match up to what you are watching! 3 Link to comment
Dimity July 10 Share July 10 Another problem I am noticing when I go to order a DVD is often now they are coming from an international source. And at least according to some of the comments that means some of the time they are not meant for the North American market. I've noted in a few cases Amazon specifying the region, but not always. Now I'm reluctant to order unless I can be absolutely sure it's the right region - and a bit of a tip off that possibly it's not is when you have to pay import fees. 2 Link to comment
tessaray July 10 Share July 10 (edited) I have cable internet but am on an overloaded line, so it's pretty pitiful at times. But it's the data cap that kept me on dvds so long. (Mediacom is the worst.) Now I'm just glad that I kept them when everyone was saying they were outdated clutter. My taste in television is weird. I have all seasons of Numb3rs, Leverage, White Collar, Farscape, rebooted Doctor Who, ST:TOS, Beauty & The Beast (Ron Perlman/Linda Hamilton), Lonesome Dove & The Outlaw Years (a 90s Canadian show, not the miniseries stuff), Roswell (complete with crappy music substitutes), Firefly, Middleman, Kung Fu:TOS. I sometimes intentionally stop at a certain point, like Castle (s1-5) and L&O (s1-13). I've sadly inherited a ton of my husband's Westerns on dvd that I'm not sure what to do with. I'll never watch them but I'd hate to see them go. They're like old friends just hanging out on the bookshelves. Edited July 10 by tessaray 4 2 Link to comment
