The axel was downgraded to a double in addition to the fall. That alone killed his score. His PCS score was right because he was doing more face pulling than anything.

i agree about Rippon—he  was being so annoying in that interview with “Andy” Joyce. 

Yeah, he'd better kick ass, as he did in the team comp. He was quite full of himself before nationals, and didn't back up his talk there. As long as he brings it, I can let the interview stuff go.

Not even a Rippon Lutz. And the singing did not add anything to the skate. I'd eliminate it myself. Beat was good and his spins were fast enough to keep up.

Even if you're not a fan of the music, you can't deny that the song fits him and his style as a performer. Big contrast when seeing the Russian pair. I also love the versatility that he can do something upbeat and fun and classical.

Rippon does nothing for me. I find his performance are jerky and lack gracefulness or style which probably why he picked that music.

That's why I give a side-eye to Rippon's seemingly endless obsession with patting himself on the back. If the quad is the bare minimum of what's expected in Men's skating these days and he's incapable of doing it, then he's elite but not elite, if that makes any sense. I still give him credit for holding up under pressure and giving a great performance, but he needs to get over himself.
