I assumed the braces were some how fake and part of the 80s outfit. She doesn't have them in any other photos I can tell.

She's also got braces on in the photo/vid she posted for her 38th bday, ~April 15th.  Also saw in Heather's insta that she's doing orthodontia too, but she's doing invisalign.

Good catch! I didn't watch the video but I saw the still on the instagram page and didn't see the braces in that so I thought she didn't have them. But looking more closely they definitely are there.

I feel like all the makeup in the 80s was orange, pink, or blue.

This makeup looks like MLM Younique make up, which is notorious for not being easy to blend.

This looks exactly like those looks lol random colors just applied over top of one another all willy-nilly.

As someone who was in high school during the 80s (am dating myself and don't care), makeup was a very different game than it it today, Blending was barely a thing. And forget about color theory. I look at some old pictures of me (as a baby Goth before Goth became the subculture that it was) and it's kind of scary what I thought looked good. I was particularly fond of drawing my eyes with Egyptian-thick eyeliner (complete with the tail).

And don't get me started about my hair. Waist length and permed so that it would be as big as possible. Bangs were coated with styling gel before being fried with a curling iron. And I avoided the plague of neon by living in black from head to toe. But it was a dark time for fashion.

@Hana Chan .... are we the same person?!!?  C/O '89 here.  Same hairstyle, I'm sure.  My curling iron must have been so gross with all the product caked on it.  And you're right, we didn't do any kind of makeup blending.  No one used 40 brushes for one look like they do today.  It was a different time for sure lol.

On topic:  Whitney is still a terrible person.

Looking forward to a new season. Love her or hate her, she’s still the only obese woman on tv who isn’t trying to get WLS or skin removal surgery or something involving wah-wah sad trombone hate yourself narratives.  She has narcissistic tendencies, but I still enjoy the show.

Weight loss surgery was literally a story line 2 seasons ago.

And 70% of the show is her hating herself .  The other 30% is her pretending that’s she doesn’t

Her Mother's Day  post features  Babs eating  wings. It appears that Babs is in a wheelchair,  which makes me sad.

And Shitney,  of course,  has to mock the fact that Babs has her pinky up while eating said wings. Despite her comments to the contrary,  I think she hates her mother.

She will be joining mom in her own wheelchair before long.

How old is Babs again? I’m surprised Whitney didn’t post the young Babs cat pic, since that seems to be her favorite to draw comparisons.  Did she ever post how Babs was after her fall? I really can’t remember anything after Babs going to the chiropractor but I wasn’t sure if Whitney posted anything about Babs anymore. I’ve been limiting my time on SM so don’t know.

According to Whitney's instagram post and video on Mothers' Day, Babs is "almost 76." ( I would have described my mother as "75" under the same circumstances, but whatever.)

Speaking of Babs' circumstances, there is something about the video clip that makes me very uncomfortable. It looks to me as if Whitney is filming her mother sitting at a table in the dining area of a rehab facility.  (A few weeks ago, Lennie had posted a photograph of Babs and Whitney in a similar location with a jokey caption, but that picture was taken down very quickly.)  Babs seems to be sitting in a wheelchair. She is eating chicken wings from a plastic tray, and I can't tell for sure, but I think the paisley drape over her upper body is not part of her shirt, but is a cloth napkin for protecting her clothes. She is only using one hand (Whitney makes a joke about her eating wings with her pinky elevated) even though it looks as if it would be easier to manipulate the food using both hands. This suggests that she may not have control of her other hand. She also has a disturbingly flat affect. She is quietly chewing her food, staring blankly straight into the camera as it zooms in on her face. At first she doesn't seem to notice it, then she looks away from it and her facial expression doesn't change as the camera pulls back.

Has she had another, more serious, stroke?

Yea I thought the same thing. I noticed the drape, wheelchair, and arm but I thought it was a restaurant.  But the styrofoam implies that they brought her the food so it seems likely that it's a rehab facility.

I hope not. However distasteful I find her daughter, I would never hope to see the suffering of someone else's parents. Having gone through the worst myself, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

Instead, I'll happily mock Whitney's other pictured and how photoshopped they are to slim her face face. She's not fooling anyone.

Saw the Instagram thing with Babs. For a minute I thought it was Twit! She looks very much like her mother. I would say Babs has had another stroke-My father had 2 before he recently passed and those facial expressions (or no expression) are very typical for stroke victims. She is for sure in some kind of facility but at least she's eating which it a good thing.

That clip of Babs reminded me of the last time I saw my mother alive in the hospital.  She was 76 at the time.  The makeup, her eating, everything.  I hope she's OK.

I hope so too, and I know a lot of people cover their fear with humor, but I find it really cruel that Whitney posts stuff like this and teases her mother, who doesn't seem to be participating in the humor. Lots of people poke fun at themselves, and for some it may be more comfortable to joke around (har har, I'm having trouble eating but I still have the propriety to stick my pinky up), and if that's the case, I'm here for it...but it doesn't seem like Babs is enjoying the little dig.

I completely agree. I have always felt that Whitney's attitude towards Babs has a cruel edge to it. I don't feel like she's ever joking around WITH Babs. Most of her comments either have a nasty undertone or are just blatantly cruel.

Well we know she's got "dadwe" issues & maybe deep down is jealous of Babs' relationship with him?

I interpret the Instagram comment about Babs’s pinky to be focusing on what Babs can do and that she has retained her unique qualities, like delicate eating habits, despite some setbacks.

'“My Big Fat Fabulous Life,” produced by Pilgrim Media Group, a Lionsgate Company, will return Tuesday, August 9, at 10 p.m. ET. In Season 10, the Thore family must navigate life after Babs is hospitalized following a stroke. Whitney, in turn, must lean on friends and family to find the strength to care for her family. '

Ten seasons. TEN seasons of this nonsense! She's done literally nothing. No job/career, none of her projects have gotten off the ground, she destroys her relationships with friends, family, and romantic partners, all of her "wins" (i.e., dance competitions, etc.) have been faked, and none of her interactions are genuine. She's gone from a possibly inspirational woman who doesn't let her weight get in the way of her life, to a sad train wreck we can't seem to look away from. So much potential, wasted. How sad.

  • Love 16

From what I have seen the best she can do to manage to "care" for her parents is to intrusively order them around and to try making decisions for them.  I always thought she was doing things to appear to be a loving and caring daughter. Her actions have always been self serving and an indication of her arrested development. Too many instances to list but to name a few: removing  Mr. Pigglesworth,  gifting her mother a kitten which she hadn't wanted, cleaning out their storage space and insisting that the parents move downstairs in their own home.

She has frequently made jokes at her mother's expense. I think it was during the trip to Bar Harbor when she referred to Bab's  "stroke hand". On the boat trip I she appeared to be vying for Glenn's attention.

You all were correct by inferring that Babs has experienced another medical incident. I know that if her condition does not improve Whitney will not handle it well. I know it is difficult to care for aging parents but I do think that Twit has fewer internal resources than most.

In regards to Babs having a second stroke, I sure hope Glenn has finally retired so that he can take care of his wife.  He appears to be the type of person who lives to work.  I was infuriated when Twitney accompanied her mom to cataract surgery, and Glenn went off to work for the entire day so Babs spent some of the afternoon alone.  My dad would never have done that!  I don't think I could stand watching it anymore if Glenn hasn't changed his neglectful ways.

Not sure if I would agree that Glenn is neglectful, I see it as just trying to have a respite from the Southern Belles who have controlled his life since he married Babs. I think he has been steamrolled by their charm for decades and the only way he can escape the madness is by working.  I am concerned for his well-being now that Babs is no longer in the home.

We don't really know anything about what their finances are like too. Glenn may work because he needs the money or because the health insurance his company provides is better than Medicare.

I know several senior men who are working into their 80s!  The consensus with their families is that they want to stay busy and vital. Plus, it’s challenging to stay at home and be a caregiver.  If Babbs is still in rehab, then he has his days free to still work, now.   They’ll need to navigate the best way way to provide the level of care she needs.  People who regularly fall, are better staying on one floor. Hopefully, they’ve moved the bedroom to the first floor, like Whit suggested.  It seemed like Whit provided all her parents’ medical care transportation.  I hope Babbs can make a good recovery.

Thanks for the different perspectives on Glenn.  It just irritated me when he went off to work as normal on the day of Bab's cataract surgery, and she was going to be alone that afternoon when Twit left.

The fortunate thing is that they only do one eye at a time, so you're not completely helpless after cataract surgery.  So honestly,  once Babs was home for a few hours,  she was fine. When I had my first eye done,  I was back on the Internet within 4 hours.

I don’t know what that deal was.  Maybe, he has no patience for it, or maybe it was contrived so Whit would have a story to film.  I can’t imagine anyone leaving a senior alone for any length of time the same day of a surgery.

Yeah, just had my second cataract surgery yesterday. My friend dropped me off after about 2 hrs at dr and I was fine on my own (72 y/o) so I wouldn't hold that against the Twit. Lots of other things yes...but that no.

I don't know any work provided  health insurance that is better Medicare and the best Medigap plan. On Medicare you can use almost any doctor in any state.  If Babs is having a rehab type health need it is long term health care that covers that, not Medicare or health insurance and that is something people buy privately (and people need to be doing this, I am 100% grateful my mom bought her long term health care when she was in her 40's, she is also 75 and had a health emergency and it has cost us nothing for rehab or in home care and I see most families with the same issue , struggling after thinking they did everything right and working hard, no debt, good retirement, to signing over their homes for Medcaid to cover it or having kids have to be full  time caregivers to parents).

I do wonder about him working. I dont think it is for money. If you look at the cost of living when they bought their home and his salary range , they have to have been comfortable for years. I think he must like his job or feel needed there or have something he feels he still needs control over.

As much as working into your 70's is great, it has caused an issue in some fields for young, educated people to be able to get into a career position. This is very true in the college world, where it is easy for a professor who loves his or her job to want to stay on well beyond retirement and students who want to take classes from these well known professors. When they are working 10-15-20 years longer, new PHD grads are taking years if they are lucky to get a job as a professor. They have to take low paying adjunct jobs or be visiting professors for years at different schools. Someone wanting to be a professor, spends 8-10 years in college and grad school and then it used to be another 10 and they would be tenored and settle down in a community, raise a family, buy a home etc but that is being pushed off another 10-15 years if they can even find that job. Glenn keeping a top level management job more then 10 years after retirment age, is keeping  multiple people who trying to climb the ladder from being able to get a promotions that allow them to be able to buy the house, get married or have a settled life.

They may have multiple mortgages on their home or have other major expenses we don’t know about. Perhaps they have paid off their home but not otherwise saved much for retirement. Neither of their adult children seem to be financially self supporting.

While I see your point about the domino effect of older people staying in the workforce longer, it’s not Glenn’s responsibility to stop working at a particular age to free up opportunities for the next generation. As long as he can do his job, he shouldn’t feel obligated to leave. Some people really enjoy their work. Some people need a larger nest egg than others to feel financially secure. Glenn could easily live another 20 years; that’s a long time to live in savings and social security. And sadly at his age, he would likely have a hard time finding another job, much less one that similar to his upper level management position.

The longer people live, the more they need to save.  But I do hope that the reason Glenn continues working because he loves his job.

Another topic:

Looks like they wrapped filming yesterday, and Whit, Heather and Tal have all posted rah-rah/please watch messages on Instagram like good little employees.   Didn't see anything like that from Buddy or Todd, so I guess they're involvement is limited or nil?

Seems like Heather's involvement was probably less as well. She was posting things on IG in NC while Whit, Tal, and others were on that beach vacation that was clearly the trip for the season. So Heather didn't go on that trip.
