Jenna needs to stop referring to herself in the third person and being so lazy. That guy she made out with is gross. The manager lady is a weird combo of bossy and too laid back. Not sure why Jamie was surprised that she thinks he's overstepping his job...probably not a wise idea to tell your boss that you would have handled several things differently right off the bat. I do agree on the need for a Captain Lee. Every show needs him. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/51196-s01e01-a-hint-of-nuts/#findComment-2805212
breezy424 December 6, 2016 Share December 6, 2016 Apres Ski didn't work so Gibbons decided to warp it into something even closer to Below Deck. It still isn't working. Yep, there's no Capt. Lee or Kate to call out the BS. And Andy didn't even mention the show's premiere on WWHL. Very telling.... 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/51196-s01e01-a-hint-of-nuts/#findComment-2805356
biakbiak December 6, 2016 Share December 6, 2016 Apres-Ski didn't work for a variety of reasons, mainly all the guests were staying at the Four Seasons and a coincerage there could have arranged anything that Gibbons Life did in 1/100th the amount of time and none of the drama. At least this one has the conceit that they are staying at this lodge so they don't actually have competent staff to reach out to get things done. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/51196-s01e01-a-hint-of-nuts/#findComment-2805368

queenjen December 6, 2016 Share December 6, 2016 Please, does anyone know if whatshisface is a relative of Billy Gibbons from ZZTop? Billy appeared on Bones as Angela's father and on top of the megabucks that he earned from ZZTop, i recall that he (or possibly one of the other band members) already had a stack of family money, maybe from oil? I'm watching this show after watching Apres Ski because I can't believe that Gibbons Life can't get something this simple right, with so many models (Below Deck, any concierge service) to look to. I'll give Gibbons Life this piece of advice for free: giving your staff a free pass to fraternize with the luxury clientele you are hoping to attract, is a recipe for absolute disaster. What's the first thing that luxury oriented clients demand? DISCRETION. Staff must know when to fade into the background and they must know where the line is between service and fraternizing. He seems to take great delight in recruiting slacker/millennial types like Jenna who truly believe they are such special snowflakes that any employer should be honoured to have them aboard. 'So Jenna, your job description includes room attendant work, and your cv says you've got experience as a room attendant? Ok, so welcome aboard to Gibbons Life. ' I'm sure that something like this actually occurred and Jenna must have begged and cajoled and confirmed that she was a gun room attendant to get a slot. So now she CAN'T CLEAN A TOILET?! It's gross? But snowflake can sit out on the deck after 'cleaning the whole house' (she vacuumed, I saw that, and avoided any bathroom work) and facetime and play with her phone? Is this what employers are dealing with these days? Because there was absolutely no shame in her game when Jamie called her out on it. And I think he was pretty nice about it, really. She's not going to understand until someone does a Danny from Below Deck Med and actually confiscates her phone while she is working. It probably needs to come to that. I would have thought they'd learned from Apres Ski that letting the staff 'party' with the guests isn't a good idea. Has never been a good idea and never leads anywhere positive, like repeat business. i don't want to be partying with the staff on my luxury vacay. Sorry. And when you have a bunch of hormonal athlete extreme sports dudes and dudettes on your staff, and parties of bachelors, someone is going to get hit on. When does the partying cross the line in that situation, young Gibbons? Will Jenna get fired for the same offence that ended her cheerleading? because that would have lawsuit written all over it. I can't see anyone wanting a repeat Gibbons Life experience. I think he's got confused with the 'Whistler Lifestyle' that he's so enamoured with and hasn't worked out that the egalitarian laid back experience of working lifts and ski instructing doesn't translate across to providing clients with a luxury experience. They definitely need Kate here. She should consult by phone given I don't think she's allowed out of the States for a bit, pending her court case. Gibbons must be hitting the slopes himself, too, cos he has lost a LOT of weight since Apres Ski. Or maybe it was just the stress of that experience. So why line up another one and not learn from your tragic errors!!! 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/51196-s01e01-a-hint-of-nuts/#findComment-2805626

queenjen December 7, 2016 Share December 7, 2016 The lawsuit black girl was a crazy miscast and Gibbons Life got what they deserved for employing her and she was fired. She was out of her depth from day one and given their 'commitment' to the 'Whistler lifestyle' it just made no sense to hire/cast a girl from another country (USA) who had ZERO experience in Whistler, had never been skiiing etc etc. The whole laissez faire laid back thing DOES NOT WORK in high end travel. Getting a lodge of their own is a step in the right direction, but it really doesn't look like anything you couldn't find by yourself under 'Whistler: Rentals'. In fact, you could probably do a hell of a lot better. It didn't scream luxury or high end to me. I guess Gibbons is really about entertainment and not about actually providing high end luxury travel experiences. Ok. If that's what it is, I'll watch it with Vanderpump Rules goggles on (and i don't watch that either). I was hoping it would improve along the lines of Below Deck. Where at least the guests and their wishes are taken seriously. Bravo needs to work out that a lot of viewers are watching for the authenticity of what is being advertised. From the comments here, a lot of people are disenchanted by this being less than Below Deck and more like VR. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/51196-s01e01-a-hint-of-nuts/#findComment-2807603

I find this kind of show interesting in the fact that I could never do this type of job. I would totally be fired. At the beginning of that scene they showed that it was 45 degrees which is pretty darn warm for skiiing. I've done spring skiing in the Sierras when it was around 40 degrees, and you can easily ski in a t-shirt in that temp (and while I haven't done that, I ski hatless and lightly covered). So I can imagine it not being ridiculously cold, and it gets a laugh, I guess. 46 minutes ago, jumper sage said: Did I hear him correctly and did he actually say he has been responsible for getting hookers and blow for clients? OnceSane December 8, 2016 Share December 8, 2016 Yeah, I'm with Jamie, special snowflake Jenna needs a work ethic. And to know when to STFU & just do what she's told. And Jamie did say he's procured hookers & blow in the past, and then said something like "maybe I shouldn't say that". The bikini was a little "look at me", but the clients seemed to like it and take it in stride. And it didn't really affect anyone's good time. So far the chef is my fave, especially how she handled the guests trying to mess with her/get her involved in their antics. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/51196-s01e01-a-hint-of-nuts/#findComment-2812939

These people take jobs and then get insulted when they are actually expected to work or respect their higher ups (I'm looking at you, Mark). Exactly..related examples include Craig from Southern Charm, who told one boss that he'd never had a job where he had to you know, alter his partying hours to conform with work hours, cos he could get as much done as everyone else without coming into the office and still get up past noon and party every night. And Danny from Below Deck Med, who I mentioned earlier, who literally could not see the problem with swapping personal info with clients OR sharing client information and pictures with other clients on the following charters or crossing the line and actually getting handsy with a charter guest. Craig got sacked and Danny had his phone taken from him by Cpt Mark while they had charter guests. Danny proceeded to whinge like the overentitled specialist of special snowflakes that he believed he was. Jenna is in exactly the same league. Gibbons Life is going to run into massive issues with this 'fraternize with the guests' policy. Expecting this crew to recognise 'the line' and know when to not step over it...inconceivably stupid (as in lawsuit stupid) or it's purely production driven for ratings, in which case, I'm out. That's not authentic. I also think Louise, Jenna's superior, is Australian (a lot of us like to work in Whistler). Louise needs to be pulling a Jamie on Jenna's ass right quick. Katie is a nitwit and IRL, she shouldn't last in this position. Jamie seems to know how things should actually be run and if he hadn't stepped in, this booking would have devolved into a complete clusterfck. Reading everyone's comments, I'm seeing the sticky paws of production in some of these decisions and this doesn't bode well for the future. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/51196-s01e01-a-hint-of-nuts/#findComment-2817570

She & him remind me of people who tried out for Jax and LaLa roles on VanderPump Rules and weren't hired there but asked to reprise that crap here. The show would be better if it was just real people in the service roles at a luxury resort and the day to day tasks and organic clashes with each other. jkitty December 13, 2016 Share December 13, 2016 This show was billed as Below Deck in Whistler but it does not have the right formula. It is overproduced in the wrong ways (obvious pairings for tension like the dipshit manager and the control freak assistant) and underproduced in others. For example, it is poorly structured so it lacks the natural tension of a Below Deck. On BD, the boat hierarchy creates a natural source of drama. Captain Lee is top of the chain. Everyone is scared of him. He is not a peer. He is a clear superior who will fire your ass. Next, the interior and exterior teams are led by people with experience and staffed with people who have varying degrees of compentence and motivation, which creates another level of drama. The chef is a wild card. Add in the disputes between teams about division of labor and issues with guests (professionalism, guest demands, etc) and there are plenty of sources of drama. This show has no structure. Even VPR has Ken and Lisa. There aren't clear duties or clear authority figures. There also are not clear lines that should not be crossed (drama!) like fraternizing with guests (it's encouraged). I think that's why this feels off Right now I am cool with the chef, the pro skier (loved his "that's sexist!"), and Blake (who didn't seem to get introduced). Everyone else is varying degrees of stupid and grating. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/51196-s01e01-a-hint-of-nuts/#findComment-2824357
