This seems to make a difference.  Having hung out with the Atlanta 5 since 2010, it's just really irritating to turn over focus to someone like Negan.

I agree that villains can be interesting, and I think Merle was one of the most interesting characters in the entire series (credit entirely due to Michael Rooker).  Gareth was interesting.  ( even liked watching the Governor a lot. <ducks tomatoes> Negan is not interesting, he looks like a soap opera character, and the show is pushing him way too hard.

It's possible, of course, that I'm just getting bored.  I started the Hunger Games series of books with my kids way back when they were in grade school, and we had to wait a whole year for each new book to come out, and then for a movie (went to the midnight premiere on a school night!) and then dragging out two more films.  And they went for the money grab by splitting Mockingjay into TWO films, and we just got sick of it all.  The final film is sitting in Amazon Prime for free, and I still haven't watched it.  Just don't care, and we were yuuge fans from the beginning.

I wish I had never watched Fear The Walking Dead, because I didn't like it, and it started the burnout.  Now the main show isn't even doing anything I want to see.  Really, the boards are what makes it entertaining at all.  lol  If I didn't have smart, funny people to chat with about it, I probably would have quit last year!  I do want to see what happened to Carol and Morgan.

Yup, and you Peach were the person who got me into this series!  (I forget what other show board we were on,  you encouraged me to watch and I appreciate it because truly Zombies and me = no way at the time ). I suppose I felt the way  you guys feel now about TWD, about Lost because I was a watcher from ep #1 and by the end, I had had enough and was pissed at the show runners for sure. I am looking forward to the series, but not to the violence of tonight. I do like JDM though.

Funny you should mention Lost. I was thinking how I felt similarly when Jack, Kate and Sawyer were being held and tortured by the Others. It just was not entertaining to see this and I was this [] close to giving it up. If we get week after week of Negan and his minions abusing our gang it's going to turn off a heck of a lot of viewers.

I was expecting more buzz tonight, but it appears blowback from the cliffhanger has made its mark. I avoided all things Walking Dead during the break myself, partially to remain spoiler free, but also because the showrunners' little stunt left a bitter taste in my mouth.

I'm sure I'll get into it once the show starts, but I'm surprised by how meh I'm feeling at the moment, considering this is my favorite show.

I think I will do some ironing while the show is on, and then check in with you people.  I know who dies, so I am prepared, I guess.  But I also really don't want to watch.  (and I would feel that way even if I wasn't spoiled)

Meh.

I really hate seeing torture portrayed. That is the main reason I gave up on American Horror Story, it became torture porn. I hope that tonight's episode has a little restraint. I was unfamiliar with JDM, so the finale was pretty impressive to me. It is weird that the villains (Negan, the Gov, even Gareth) seem to have a sort of magnetic quality. I feel creepy even thinking that but there it is.

Garrett Dillahunt? Oh man, I love that guy. Jeffrey Dean Morgan looks the part though and I do like him. Negan will be an annoying monologuer. It's his thing. It's all the Saviors' thing. They talk and talk and talk...

Negan (yes, I mean Negan and not Megan autocorrect!) will get his eventually. It will be a beautiful thing. Maybe it will be in the middle of one of his stupid monologues.

I would love to see Dwight turn. He could be an interesting character.

Going to watch the end of 6b to get revved up for 7.

I also know, but still dreading it.

I'm not crazy about seeing someone's head get bashed in either, and knowing what's coming is probably contributing to my reduced enthusiasm for the premiere. Personally, I don't think they're going to be showing any restraint. They have a lot to prove tonight, and I suspect their idea of "raising the bar" to make up for/justify the cliffhanger means all out gore fest. I hope I'm wrong, though. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Am I the only one that's excited?

I have no idea what's going to happen, but I'm super pumped to find out in 45 minutes!

Nope, I'm on pins and needles with anticipation.  In spite of the AMC and Gimple shenanigans, I'm beyond excited!

25 minutes to go!

The reason I soured on FearTWD is that it offered nothing new to me.  I never took to any of the characters nor did I care about their fate (and I tried; I liked the kid Tobias and the Army Major Moyer - both died offscreen). I was genuinely interested in watching the early days of a ZA in a sprawling metropolis like LA but the show wasn't interested in telling me that story. LA was emptied offscreen, the bulk of the population deemed irrelevant. The main characters' professions proved equally irrelevant in contrast to Rick, Herschel and others on the mothership who adapted their previous experiences to the ZA.  FearTWD has regularly left me unmoved and unconvinced, and none of the actors  IMO are capable of the emotional beats of Andrew Lincoln, the seething menace of Jon Bernthal or the steely competence of Danai Gurira, never mind the growing skill Chandler Riggs has shown as Carl faces his ordeals. I watched this past season of Fear to the finale and still don't like or care about the characters.

I''m concerned now that Negan might eat my show and I'll end up souring on it too. I don't remember The Governor getting this much publicity during his overlong arc. I like Jeffrey Dean Morgan but Negan, not so much.

YES. I'm so sick of Negan already and he's had a mere 10 minutes of screen time.

JDM beat out Garrett Dillahunt and Timothy Oleyphant for this role.

Wow. Dillahunt is great at playing a-holes. Olyphant would have been interesting. I can't believe JDM is part of a storyline that's worse than Ghost Sex.

I'm somewhat relieved others here aren't loving AMC turning into the Negan Network. I understand TWD has to create drama, but watching the characters navigate the morally grey areas while firehosing and/or burning zombies is why I like the show so much. Don't want another rapey governor storyline.

There was a time when the season premiere speculation/live chat thread would have been at least 10 pages.

I've decided to watch the premiere but I can't promise that I'll watch the whole episode or stick around for the whole season.  I had forgotten that TWD was coming back until a week ago; I'd forgotten all about it.  I'd stuck through the entire season of FTWD and I think I've reached my capacity for crap shows about zombies.

It makes me sad to realize that I have absolutely no hope left for this show.  I KNOW it's going to be awful.

My excitement over a new season is tempered by the fear that one of my favorites will be a goner. I was big on spoilers the last couple of years, but for this season I went spoiler-free and now I kind of regret it.

I am so glad Olyphant didn't get this role.  I really like him.  If he had been cast - I definitely would be watching.  I have absolutely no moral center.

I was starting to feel like a bad fan because I was iffy on even watching this.  But I always enjoyed these live threads and hell, I've come this far with the show so I figure at least give the season premiere a shot right? I missed you all!

What the hell?!  It hasn't even started yet and there are 65 posts?  Look at this, idiot Walking Dead producers!  PEOPLE WOULD HAVE BEEN BACK EVEN WITHOUT THAT STUPID CLIFFHANGER BUSINESS.

It only took one promo on tv today for me to ditch my whole Sunday To Do List and re-watch the last four episodes.  Of course, that promo had a freaking

Spoiler

TIGER!!!

This is going to be just like when I ride roller coasters.

All the dread while waiting in the long line.

Then I keep my eyes closed during the entire ride and can't wait for it to be over.

Then I eat an elephant ear with cinnamon and sugar.

There's still a minute left to join the dark side and read all the spoilers for this episode.  lol
