Seriously, I wonder what, if any, medical care Derick got while they spent that 10 months in Danger America? Granted, my eye is untrained, but shouldn't he be looking better by now? He had the surgery two years ago this coming April! I know people fly to Danger America for cheap dental procedures like root canals or crowns, but did Derick have access to a specialist for his surgery?

If he did, well, that doctor sucked. I'm sorry, but my mother had three strokes, so I think I know what I'm talking about when I say he looks like a stroke victim.

I think Derrick must have suffered some nerve damage due to the surgery. It's the reason my dentist doesn't recommend jaw surgery for me...nerve damage is a risk, and I would need to have a much bigger problem than I have for me to be willing to take that risk. It doesn't look to me to be *that* bad on Derrick, and slight droopiness and weight issues aside I do think his face looks better overall than it did pre-surgery, but, yeah, when he smiles or talks you can tell something happened.

Please DONATE

I was driving into work when out of the corner of my eye I saw a Salvation Army truck at a gas station, and the whole side of the big truck said DONATE. I am wondering if Tripe D could score one of those and drive it around?  Itsa job!  Also, I signed up for a yoga retreat at a non profit yoga ashram, whose entire budget is based on donations, and the people who visit there don't pay tuition, only donate, and their DONATE button was way smaller than the Dillard As-See-From-Space-Sized one.

Moved post from Jinger's dress episode thread because it doesn't belong there.

I don't normally watch the previews but I feel like they showed a clip last night of Derick going to a doctor to find out WTF is going on with him.  Someone who paid more attention can confirm/deny this.

If Derick were to become disabled and unable to work, would Jilly actually have to get a job? I really think Derick married her hoping she would have some kind of career (midwife). He was supportive of her finishing her "studies."

I agree. I really meant to *compare* him to stroke victims, not imply that he had one himself. He just has that same droopy-faced look of someone who doesn't have control over the muscles on that side of his face

I keep saying that he looks like he has neuro damage.

But past pictures show he was kinda droopy before surgery too.

I am obsessed with Derick's health, I swear!

Ya gotta admit, it is strange to see a decent looking young man turn into such a thin, sickly mess in less than a year.  And NO ONE seems to notice?

THIS! Why does nobody notice? I guess if you see someone every day, it's less noticeable, but since Derick was gone for several months, it's surprising nobody said anything.

The Duggars are in denial about everything! Josie, Josh, Jill, Derick..

This is what's so weird - Derick doesn't look well for a young man his age, Jill seems on the verge of a breakdown - plus she's pregnant and suddenly D-Man is spouting all kinds of random thoughts on social media.  Something is not right with them.  I sincerely hope her baby is healthy and that SOMEONE notices that help is needed, both physical and emotional, and steps in before things go from bad to worse.

Sadly, this may be what it takes before they DO something.  I don't wish a nervous breakdown on anyone, but if that's the proverbial knock on the head the Duggars need, then so be that.

That's what I don't understand. The Duggars had no problem showing Anna giving birth on the toilet, Josie having a blowout in her pull-ups and Jessa hemorrhaging blood after Spurge's delivery, but Derick's issues must be guarded with CIA levels of secrecy? I get that he has every right not to talk about it, but he went from being a semi-cute nerd to looking like something that came out of a death camp all in less than one year. I wonder what's really going on.

Well if it is Zika I can see why they would have CIA levels of secrecy.  Because people would think they are dumb AF to get pregnant while in a Zika zone and NOT test before getting pregnant.  Or delaying procreation until the time limit has passed once you are back home.  Here are the symptoms:

Symptoms of Zika virus include: 1,2

Fever.

Rash.

Joint pain.

Conjunctivitis (red eyes)

Muscle pain.

Headache.

Pain behind the eyes.

Vomiting.

Who knows what the heck is going on but they look worked.  For a couple who do nothing but apparently screw, post bible stuff, take selfies, etc.

I had Bell's Palsy years ago, and left me with my eyes not matching, although they aren't nearly as bad as Derick's.  But I think he is too young to have suffered from that.  It probably is because of nerve damage from the surgery.  I had major surgery on my back three years ago which left large areas of my arm numb.  They said it would come back slowly.  Well, some of the nerves have come back but there is still a lot of numbness there.

I have Bell's Palsy and I look far worse than Derick (except my teeth line up!).  People always assume I had a stroke.  Mine is a result of surgery done over 20 years ago when I was still in my 30's, so age probably has nothing to do with it.  In my case it has never gotten any better than it was to begin with.

My dad had Bell's Palsy which they related to his Lyme disease. Once he recovered his face was fine except for when he was tired he had some residual drooping on the corner of his mouth. If Derick has nerve damage it could definitely effect his speech because nerve damage also effects muscles. He may also have a dental appliance in his mouth in addition to his braces. Maybe his weight loss is due to problems with his mouth. I know there are ways to put on weight with all kinds of soft foods but maybe eating anything and even drinking is difficult for him.

I'm thinking Zika though. He went to CA looking like a dude who had mouth surgery and came back looking like a skeleton with braces. I think his recent rant flavored posts are related to Zika, maybe because it is a real problem or maybe because they know it could be a problem for their unborn baby, or both. Some folks have Zika and don't even know it and others can have long term complications, and we all know the devastating consequences of Zika for some developing fetuses.

Even if a Zika exposure was not confirmed, someone, probably Cathy, must have raised concerns when Jill became pregnant. Like @Natalie68mentioned maybe that is why they're being so quiet about it all.

Clown Car had a breakdown and nobody did anything. Also everyone in Duggarland is perfect so there is nothing wrong with Derick.

I don't think they'll make any kind of announcement at all, unless they're absolutely forced to. I think the plan is to keep on living where they are, drifting and grifting along and hoping that eventually everyone will forget about Danger America.

I havent heard of long term complications for anyone other than fetuses with Zika? All the news says its very harmless for most adults.

My Friends husband got zika when they were honeymooning and aside from a rash he was total fine ( he was confirmed through testing to have had it) Derrick looks like he has something more serious going on.

Zika can have neurological complications as well. Guillane-Barrė syndrome is one such effect. It's a rare complication, but still in Derick's case needs to be ruled out.

Whoever said he looks like a skeleton with braces nailed it.  There's something wrong with him, and even if they want to keep exactly what it is private (which is their right), please reassure all who are concerned for his wellbeing that he is receiving treatment.

That grandpa was in real estate. Remember that Boob is a 3rd or 4th generation real estate agent in their male line. In trashing his father, Boob goes on about how his father ruined the family business, although he never elaborates about HOW he ruined the business. I guess you're supposed to fill in the blanks with stuff like drinking, womanizing, etc.

But back to Derick's dad. It's just weird that Jill said that she missed Mr. Dillard, since she never even came close to meeting him. It wasn't like he'd JUST passed when she first met Derick.

It's more appropriate for her  to say she is sad she never got to meet him. But since the Duggars were never allowed to have feelings other than happy,so it might be hard to word things right.

I think this is the problem. She has posted other things like this before -- things that are obviously well-intentioned but just sound odd and off-putting. I also think that the SODRT didn't help much, either.

I'm really looking forward to this!  Hope it happens!  How and when did Cathy meet and marry the silent stepdad? Dying to know what he thinks of this ongoing train wreck!

Probably why he's refused to be part of the circus. He's got to keep the peace with Miss Cathy. I'm sure he's fine with Jill, but does not care for the Duggar brood. Maybe Boob insulted him, much like he showed his ass with the Vuolo family.

To be honest about it, I do not see much of a love fest between Miss Cathy and Jill. She might tolerate Jill because she is married to her son and because of her grandson.

It's not a might; I think she has to so she can get her TeeVee payday....and see that Giant White Baby she loves so much.

Yeah, that too! I think she means well. I don't sense a lot of malice or a mean spirit in Jill. Now, Jessa, OTOH is one shady young lady!

I agree. None of the Duggar children posses a shred of emotional intelligence. I don't think Jill means anything bad with her captions, she just lacks the awareness to understand that her wording isn't the most appropriate.

I see much more of a fond relationship between Gwen and Jessa, as well as Diana and Jinger, even though we haven't seen them very much.  I have real hope for the second relationship. Gwen isn't around very much, but it looks like Jinger is spending time with Jeremy's family, and Diana is a great role model!

i think the difference between these two is humility. Jill probably spends lots of time spouting off like she knows everything, but Cathy has lived life and silently disagrees with a lot of things. Jinger seems much more willing to be guided, and like she would be much more respectful of people with life experience.

I think it all comes to down to Izzy. I'd be kinda pissed if my constantly bruised grandchild was playing on electric fans, riding in a car seat he outgrew six months ago and eating tomato sauce straight from the can. Jill is a dummy, and no woman wants a dummy for a daughter-in-law.

For these and other resasons, I call them the Dillydumdums...

I agree. I kind of get the - don't ask, don't tell - vibe from them in regard to Izzy. As in Cathy is trying to let Jill parent him Jill's way, and Jill is letting Cathy grandparent Izzy Cathy's way, but neither really approve of the other's way.
