WTFFF October 28, 2014 Share October 28, 2014 (edited) What about the lion king or Matilda? Sad that Jill is 23 and has the mind of a 10yo. Michelle and JB would never take any of their kids to a Broadway show. Too expensive for a family of 21 and ungodly Also her siblings come to her. Jill needs to move three hours away and get away from her parents I've seen Matilda 25 times (I'm addicted to Matilda in all media forms and I actually think the musical improves on the novel), and more than once I've thought about how much the Lost Girls would probably enjoy it (I am 110% serious when I say that if they ever take another trip back into the city with Jill's buddy team, I'd be willing to pay myself for Joy or Derick to take Jennifer to see Matilda - I feel like that story would resonate with her and Jordyn, and maybe give them some hope), but I think it would be out for J&D because "Loud" would defraud the hell out of Derick, and Matilda's telekinetic powers would probably be classed as "witchcraft." God knows there's no room more metaphor in the Duggar world. Hell, they probably have no clue who Roald Dahl is. The Lion King is possible, though. I always kind of forget that's still there. Since Duggar girls are allowed to see shirtless men, I can't think of what would be objectionable about it. (TFDW probably should avoid it, though.) Aladdin would probably be out since Jasmine could be defrauding. I'm not really kidding when I say I wonder if Sherri Shepherd's involvement was what convinced them that Cinderella would be okay to take in. I think Les Mis would curl Jill's crispy hair! Sure, there's a wonderful message of redemption, but she'd never make it past all those OMG prostitutes! True, she'd have to cover Derick's eyes during Lovely Ladies, and chances are they'd spend the whole time muttering about how Javert was the true hero of the piece because "thou shalt not steal." Whatever was I thinking? Derick's brother looks exactly like Cousin Mose from The Office. Apparently fundies who look like characters from The Office is a recurring theme with the Duggars' in-laws. NausetGirl October 28, 2014 Share October 28, 2014 It was my understanding that the texting, emailing and such were wedding planning details. Now, it may be that it's baby stuff at this point. But at the time of the single interview that I think we are basing this all on, they werent at that time married. I imagine a lot of people think it's sweet that she comes in to eat lunch with him. Doesn't his mother work at Wal-mart too? It's possible that some days she joins them. Now that they're married, if Jill only occasionally has lunch with Derick, fine. Like once a month. Anymore than that on a regular basis and the word "smothering" is going to come up. Especially if she's still doing it once the baby is born. 3 Link to comment
Darknight October 28, 2014 Share October 28, 2014 It's not tacky. It is just a different way of doing things. I've been home all day with a migraine watching the marathon. I never really watched this show much in the past but this board made me curious about these people. I just don't see that these are bad people. Jill seems lovely and very mature for her age in many ways. Jill is emotionally a 12yo. She isn't mature in my eyes, just do what she's told without any questions ask. She also works with her limited resources. Jill isn't a bad person her parents are 3 Link to comment

juneday October 29, 2014 Share October 29, 2014 (edited) In this picture, Jana is positively glowing! And Jill is definitely her mother's daughter; she's already adopted Michelle's hunched back posture. http://i.imgur.com/bw8Rkuh.jpg Maybe this is bad to say but when I first saw this picture I thought Jill was pregnant in it. Her wedding dress is pretty but not flattering at all. She could have bought the dress in her actual size and it still be modest. Just the way Derick's hand was on her stomach and that her wedding dress was so unflattering made me stare at it thinking, "Is then when she is already pregnant? Oh wait, this is her wedding!" Oh Michelle's dress...oh my gosh. Maybe it would look better on a taller person-but it just doesn't look good on her. It sticks out and basically screams, "Look at me!! Mother of the Bride, I can wear whatever the hell I want as long as it's modest!!" Edited October 29, 2014 by heckyeahheartland 4 Link to comment
trimthatfat October 30, 2014 Share October 30, 2014 (edited) Looking at that pic of Jill and Derrick with his brother and Jana, Jill's dress appears horribly unflattering in pictures. Maybe it's her posture that's throwing me off. Cathy looks lovely in the pic above. I really love her dress. Why would Derick take Jill to see a child's fairytale stage show? I am obsessed with Broadway and travel to NYC regularly to catch shows. I'm a little older than Jill and have seen Cinderella twice. Once with my husband, the other time with my sister-in-law. Both times, 70% of the people in the audience were adults. It's actually a really great show that appeals to children and adults. Edited October 30, 2014 by trimthatfat 1 Link to comment
duggarshow October 30, 2014 Share October 30, 2014 I grew up with a church that had an Altar Guild that could provide volunteers to weddings BUT you had to pay the Guild for their time. The Guild then used the money to fund the group but most was given back to the church. Do Baptist churched do the same thing? I imagine the Duggar still got lots of free volunteers but I would bet they had to pay for church help. If they were paid, they weren't volunteers. Link to comment
Almost 3000 October 30, 2014 Share October 30, 2014 If they were paid, they weren't volunteers. They weren't paid. They volunteered their time and you paid the Church Guild. This was different from the organist and the soloist who were paid and did not volunteer. My question was do Baptist churches have groups that volunteer their time but do it to raise money for the church. We may be struggling with semantics here but my question still stands. I'd like to know if its possible that the Duggars or production paid for some of those 200 volunteers because of a group similar to a Church Guild. Link to comment
Jaze Undone October 30, 2014 Share October 30, 2014 I'm new here, I have watched the Duggars for years off and on, I've even defended their extreme fundamental practices in the past, I believe I called them refreshing and wholesome. This is about Jill and Derick so I'll stay on that topic. First of all, I really like Derick, he seems to be a really hardworking, nice young man and I do not believe he is a fundi, he is conservative, but I think he would support Jill working and Jill on birth control if she so chose. But JB and MeChelle know that Jilly Muffin inhaled the most kool aid, so it will take many prayers and un-indoctrinating Jill for him to change her ideals. I appears that Jill inherited her mother's super uterus and along with a positive pee stick all Jill's dreams of being a midwife in a third world country are washed away... Flush! I had really hoped they would put off babies and go do missions together while they were young and had no responsibilities, they had such a wonderful opportunity to really serve people. Now they are Smuggar take two, with the exception that it seems to be, that Derick, truly is humble. I hope that he is capable of leading Jill and not the other way around, I have noticed the slight glance at her when she interrupts him during interviews. She should have been taught that was rude a long time ago, now hopefully Derick will point out how unbecoming it is and she will see that this interrupting really is a huge problem of hers. Another problem of Jill's is the constant fake smile and the squeals of "awww", she even kept interrupting her grandma when she gave Jill the lovely handkerchief that had a piece of her grandmother's wedding dress. Grandma Duggar was trying to impart some of her martial wisdom and Jill just could not keep her mouth shut, you could tell she was absolutely relishing all the attention she has been getting. Also when she calls Derick's mother " mom" it sounds so fake, his mom even seemed to cringe a bit and Derick had an awkward look on his face. I'm sure in time it will seem less contrived and more natural, but honestly out of respect Jill should have saved that name change until after the wedding. Lastly, the big house, what a lovely home to start their family, but it's going to be ridiculous to live there, get huge and pregnant or have a new baby and have to pack everything and move into a much smaller home. I honestly would rather be moved into MY home and set things up there, so I could paint walls, decorate a nursery... Do all the things that cannot be done in a house that is on the market (supposedly). Does anybody know if the house is listed? Also when it finally is listed, did JB consider that his precious Jilly Billy is going to be living in a home that will be available for all the world to find on a map. Derick really should kindly refuse the offer of the house but move HIS family to a safe, unknown location. I apologize if all of this has already been said, I read all of Jana's thread today and I love it and you all, but I couldn't read 57 pages to get to the end of Jill and Derick's thread. 9 Link to comment
Literata October 30, 2014 Share October 30, 2014 have to pack everything and move into a much smaller home. They won't have to move. IMO, the house is theirs; my guess would be Derick's making payments to Boob. I think part of the reason for the ruse is that Boob doesn't want to admit to Josh and Anna that he wasn't exactly impartial in his financial assistance to his married kids. 1 Link to comment

floridamom October 30, 2014 Share October 30, 2014 Yes, Jill may be immature like a 14 year old, but she sure does have bossy streak in her. She can order around her younger siblings quite well. Welcome to your married life, Derick! It was also disgusting to watch her shave him before the wedding. I didn't think they were allowed to "touch" each other like that, only hand holding..why is he too dumb to know how to comb his hair as Jessa was spraying it for him before the wedding? zenme October 30, 2014 Share October 30, 2014 I think I noticed Jill's bossy streak immediately after she said, "I do." PityFree October 31, 2014 Share October 31, 2014 The shaving was gross in the way that Duggars as a whole are gross: they were grooming themselves in a place not intended for intimate grooming!!!!! Shaving, showering, toe nail clipping, etc. should be done at home, in a bathroom or in a barbershop: a place where hair is not going to get all over everything. Was that room carpeted? Were there other people there? Were there suits and dresses there? Was there food there???? I saw a picture on FJ of the groomsmen with Derrick. I knew his suit was too big before but in this picture you can see exactly how ill fitting the entire thing is. What is wrong with these people that none of their clothing fits properly - not even for a WEDDING?????? Derrick wasn't raised that way. He knows better. He has no excuse. He has a corporate job so he had to have an interview. You cannot tell me that his interview suit fit this badly. 6 Link to comment
zenme October 31, 2014 Share October 31, 2014 You're right, PityFree. My mom owns a menswear store and she's always having to fit a man for a suit properly. She says they always go for the wrong size. He would have looked so much better in a Calvin Klein suit, as they are cut perfectly for men with body types such as Derick's. Also, for their theme I would think a bow tie of some sort would have been more appropriate for the look. The suit was ill-fitting. Once again, I've said before--as have others, that Jeremy Roloff and his bride pulled off the look that I feel Jill attempted, including Jeremy's custom made suit. It was beautiful! Jill's looked half-assed and cheap. 2 Link to comment

homeperm October 31, 2014 Share October 31, 2014 I was thinking the same thing. Maybe this is just the start for them. Maybe NYC becomes a yearly tradition for them and they'll check out all the various shows over the years. It's possible he started with Cinderella due to ticket prices and because both of them kind of know the story. They may work their way up from there to Les Mis and whatever else over the years. Obviously Derick doesn't have a problem with dancing and music -- I mean he was his school's mascot so he was exposed to the band and cheerleaders at every practice and game. So I highly doubt he will say "oh no -- can't take my wife to that show, there are heathens dancing in that one." All of Broadway has music and dancing -- if they were SO morally opposed, they wouldn't even have gone to Cinderella. And I think Jill will not mind having her world opened up a bit. I'm not suggesting she'll suddenly be ok hitting a nightclub or dancing with her husband, but I think she will be ok watching such shows -- appreciating the music and dance and costumes and lighting etc. from a distance. As much as she is fundie, I think she can be open minded and esp. when it comes to things Derick wants to do; she has shown more than once now that she'll eat Nepali food or hummus or whatever without turning up her nose because he likes it and she's willing to try it and decide she's ok with it too. I think it'll be the same for lots of other activities -- Broadway being just one example. I SO hope you're right. Going to NYC on their own and actually experiencing the city are good signs. Ljohnson1987 October 31, 2014 Share October 31, 2014 I hope they don't raise Dill Pickle how Jill was raised. Derrick is not Fundie, so there's a chance he'll be raised normally. Couldn't she have waited a minute til Jilly Muffin was done? On occasion I'll go with my husband to the barber shop and his barber doesn't even want you chatting with people In his chair because it is precision work he's doing. I can't imagine the patchwork his beard looked liked with Jill going at him with those $10 clippers and Jessa choking him with a tie at the same time. Why couldn't Jessa go play with her own man? And why weren't they at least in the bathroom? And why would he even show up on his wedding day unshaven? 4 Link to comment
cmr2014 November 1, 2014 Share November 1, 2014 If Jessa got the shaving thing from Bin (which seems likely), I think that Jill just thought it was romantic and wanted to copy her. If I were one of those kids I would do whatever I could to get my hands on my boyfriend, so I don't blame them for that. I think that the reason that Jessa and Jill don't stop to think about where they are doing the shaving is because they've simply never been taught. I've commented on this before, but it really bugs me. This isn't a regional thing, or a big family thing. I grew up in a big family in Texas -- I have relatives in Arkansas. We went barefoot all the time, but once we came home, we bathed, put on clean pajamas, and went to sleep between clean sheets. If it had occurred to me to give my boyfriend a shave -- in a church no less -- my mother would have put a stop to that before the clippers even got warmed up. J'chelle is the baby of her family. I doubt she ever did any housework at all growing up, and very possible that her parent were tired of nagging children by the time she came along and just let her do as she pleased. It's possible that she simply doesn't know what's appropriate. That may be one of the reasons that she's drawn to Gothardism -- because there are rules for everything (except keeping a clean house). I can't even imagine how Derick is going to respond when he comes home from a long day at work, has dinner, watches a little TV, and then goes in to go to sleep on a bed with no sheets. 5 Link to comment

Now when peeps get married, it isn't acceptable unless you get full salon services and turn your hair into an updo resembling hairy brains held into place by pins and hairspray. That look... should be reserved for Halloween. Just saying.... I say do what you want, frizzy hair, brain hair, popcorn, 10-course meal with rubbery steak, it is a wedding, a celebration of two people getting married, but it's not your wedding. That's just disrespectful of the Duggars and shows no consideration of the janitorial staff who had to vacuum hair out of the carpeting and to the next bridal party who probably goes barefoot in that room. It wouldn't surprise me if the Duggars also clipped their nails inside the venue and left it for the janitor to clean. Gross and nasty. It just goes to show that TLC money doesn't buy class.
