Yeah, the woman who should have been drug banned.

I'm sorry, but this annoys the crap out of me, she's never tested positive, but she's winning, and she's not representing your country, so she must be cheating and should be banned! No. You wouldn't appreciate it if people were saying the same thing about Ledecky and Phelps.

I think it was qualified because Hosszu missed 3 mandatory drug tests, to which, how?

All she had to do was to take her drug tests.

Dear NBC, I really couldn't give a fying fluck about the husband of Katinka Hosszu.  Please, do me a favour and stop giving this idiot airtime.

He showed up on CBC, too.  Is he someone notable or just...animated?

Really, NBC? You cut away during Lochte's swim to show Phelps's cap malfunction? That couldn't wait until after? SMDH

They did WHAT?????

Thank goodness for the Feed! I guess I will check out NBC's misdeeds in 3 hours, when they finally get around to showing it on the Mothership.

I don't know if Katinka is clean or dirty, but when someone has the sudden huge improvement she has had in her mid 20s, they have typically turned out to be doping. There are a lot of reasonable comparisons between her and Michelle Smith, who also technically never tested positive for doping but eventually got banned from the sport for manipulating a urine sample.

No one questions that  Sarah Sjostrom is clean and she's Swedish. She's just had a perfectly logical improvement  curve since her big breakthrough at the 2009 World Championships.

As much as he got on my nerves during the last Olympics, I was pleased to see Lochte as part of the team. I'm grumpy and am not quite yet ready to yield to the new kids completely.

Gotta show the man's every move.   They'll probably put in picture in picture.  "This is what Michael Phelps is doing right now!"

Then, they cut to Costas and I'm sure he had to towel off.

The announcers were talking about it the other day. Plus she has increased her times in her mid-20s which already had people raising their eyebrows.

This article talks about it:

I read the article. It says nothing about her missing three mandatory drug tests. I agree that she's peaking at an odd time for women but it seems like this "missing three tests" is something you mad e up.

I read that article twice, couldn't find anything about her missing any drug tests, it's just all speculation that looks like sour grapes to me.

Bottom line: She hasn't ever tested positive, so she deserves the benefit of the doubt. As do all athletes here.

I love Ryan's hair, he is so cute! those dimples!

I had heard about his hair and was prepared to hate it (especially when I read its description as "ice blue"), but in fact I kinda like it. And though I don't exactly find him cute, he does seem much better looking to me than he did 4 years ago. I never expected that.

He looks like a young Anderson Cooper (who was gray for realz at 32).

I'm not going to comment on the doping but more than anything else something about Hosszu's husband does not sit right with me AT ALL and I wish NBC would stop paying him any due like its charming.

Same here.  I know for sure that one of the reasons he annoys me is how he became someone 'important', someone the cameras must show every single time he is around - if this were a TV show and not the Olympics, he would be that guy doing a cameo that suddently became a leading character (which is exactly the same reason I cannot stand Mama Phelps and his sister and missus - the baby is more than okay, though). Other than that, he gives me creepy pimp vibes.

So... Katinka stinks? Sorry, I couldn't help myself. But for real, how can you miss three mandatory tests, assuming it is true? I find Katinka's improvement extremely suspicious, but unless she tests positive she is going to make history as the best female swimmer in Rio.

No, it is NOT true.  Someone falsely claimed it.

Upthread it was mentioned that there are no citable sources for this "missed three drug tests" allegation. I've looked anywhere and there are articles questioning the relationship between husband and wife (with some swimmers implying it could be abusive) but still no "three missed test" sources.

He was pulling it down like they do while waiting for his leg of the race, and it ripped in two. He looked around like, "crap!", and put on the cap from one of the first two swimmers. Cue dramatic music.

It was a funny moment, but it didn't merit cutting away from a live final, no matter how far Lochte was ahead.

While she hasn't tested positive, it is still highly suspicious her incredible improvement at her age. Also many athletes never test positive but are then found to have doped: Lance Armstrong, Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire to just name a few.  Personally I know a few major leagurers that never got popped but I know for a fact we're not cleaned

I will give her the benefit of the doubt for now but I will also keep my eye on her in the future.

Congrats to Katie and Michael Phelps as well as the rest of the men's relay team for winning gold tonight. I was glad to see Katie pull off the win in 200 freestyle and Michael win gold in his two races tonight.  I got chills watching him win his 20th and 21st gold medal. Who knows when we there will be another Olympic athlete, that is so incredibly dominant like he has been throughout the past four Olympics. I liked seeing Ryan get another gold medal too. He's amusing and I think his hair looks fine. I think that dyed grey look works for some people.

And that's why I love Lochte. In the post-race interview, he made a point of calling out the three "other guys" who raced in the prelim.

That is, in the five seconds he was allowed to speak. If the reporter said to Phelps, "I'm sure your teammates won't mind (that I ignore them)" one more time... I was kind of hoping when the camera zoomed out that they would have walked off. lol

I couldn't believe it when she started the interview that way.  Usually they act that way, but  I can't recall anyone starting an interview with a relay team saying I'm sure you will all understand why I'm only talking to Phelps.

I give Lochte a pass on the hair because I think its a cry for attention in a field of swimmers dominated by Phelps.

But I blame the announcers/media for that, not Phelps.

Also there are those who were never caught but people always believed to have dopped like Florence Girffith Joyner.

For those familiar with Florida, that Lochte is from Daytona Beach explains a lot.

As a Floridian, no lies detected. LOL. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he's incredibly affable and I've loved how his friendly rivalry with Michael has made both of them better over the years. I saw that by winning his 12th medal tonight, he passed Mark Spitz as the second most decorated American swimmer. That's awesome. I hope there are more in his future.

Phelps showboating tonight put a bad taste in my mouth. That wasn't needed. I saw what Chad did and it didn't bother me, and at least he congratulated Michael afterwards. Poor relay team for getting shunned again just so Phelps can talk. I'm sure that they are used to it, but it still sucks.

Love that KD also took a pic with Katie Ledecki.

As always game recognizes game.

That's funny that Michael looks kind of small compared to KD. I remember seeing a picture of Michael and Simone Biles and noticing just how tiny she was in comparison to him. I liked the reactions of the basketball players to Katie and Michael's wins. They looked like proud parents. I love seeing the athletes from different sports supporting each other.

I think that swimming is exciting and a fun sport to watch. I think it might be the sport that I find the most exciting to watch in the Olympics.

Cool - thanks for clearing that up!

Quietly hoping Cam McEvoy can get us another gold tomorrow in the 100 metres freestyle, but I was so impressed by the effort of young Kyle Chalmers too. But I am loving the new geeky breed of Australian male swimmers. McEvoy is a physics student and Mitch Larkin is studying engineering. Go the four-eyes (from a fellow four-eyes!) I have wondered if either of them swim in prescription goggles.
