Salem International: Casting Notes: Arrivals & Departures

At first, I really was interested to see how she'd be, but her delivery is so hammy and rushed and OTT I cringe constantly.

In quieter moments she's marginally better,  but...as Abe's new wife? Frankly I think he deserves better.

I hoped she'd be fun, sincere, colorful and intelligent. Mostly she comes off as a dolt (but who doesn't these days, given the writing?)

I honestly think it's her sitcom approach not being calibrated for the medium.

Is there even an acting coach anymore?

I guess this means JJ is back in January?

No he's gone and they didn't even reveal Abby's killer yet so why bother bringing him back (or Jack/Jennifer for that matter) they were better off ignoring his existence entirely. However I'm glad he's leaving less damage this way.

Well, apparently Zach is out as Sonny.  They couldn't come to a salary agreement.

Also, Peter and Kristian are filming.

Sorry to hear about Zach.  I thought he was a really good Sonny, I liked him better than Freddy, the previous actor.  Will there be no more Wilson storyline?  And I liked Sonny butting heads with Alex.

I liked Zach too but Freddie was cool too. I never understood the board's dislike of Freddie. He was what made Wilson so great in the beginning in my opinion. His Sonny's calmness balanced Chandler's Will really well..

Those being the operative words. He was great at the start, no question, but became a pod person as time went on. Really vacant, really awkward....creepy even.

People may find Chandler lacking but I've always found his worst work better than Freddie's, especially the last few years he was on. Sonny was DOA in the end because of Freddie.

I wish he hadn't changed so much though. Wilson were pretty iconic. Would have been nice to keep them intact with the original portrayers.

I swear to God Freddie comes off like a devoted cult follower. That's his vibe- very vacant and awkward. The only time I liked him was when Christian/Evan was seducing him, and I really think that was mostly because of Evan. Really bummed about Zac Tinker- he is one of the best recasts I've seen in years. I'll put him up there with Nicholas Alexander Chavez taking over Spencer on GH. I really hope Freddie does not come back- I'm good with Sonny being gone. Or hell- why can't they call up Brock Kelly and offer him the part? I don't understand why the show runners can't see they have something there with Brock.

Was he bad? I thought he was about as good as most other recent hires.

I didn't think he was that bad, either. He did have this weird plastic vibe to his face, like he had recently gotten fillers or facial implants. The truth is that Days is not going to fork out that much money for a C character on a B show so I kept my expectations rock bottom.

This. Someone here said that he actually wants to be on the show too so it's not that. I'm sure he'd be cheap lol. But I guess they still don't wanna use the money.

I could never get past Sonny (Zack)'s porn-stache. So no loss there for me if he goes.

Without Victor and a lesser-extent Maggie, the Kiriakis family seems to splintered for any of them to feel important to the show. Sonny feels pointless without Will, he's not sharing scenes with Gabi, and IMO he seems mostly there for Alex. Justin isn't on the show enough to do anything interesting with him, Philip is "dead," and Brady hasn't shared any scenes with the Kiriakis side of his family in a minute. Shawn doesn't share any scenes with the Kiriakis family. Xander also hasn't had much to do with the Kiriakis side.

I say all that to say that Sonny off-canvas will have little to no effect on anyone. Alex will probably be the only person who notices.

This is why Ron killing Adrienne off was so stupid and short-sighted.  I have no problem with Sonny being on the show without Will.  This could have been a good time for Ron to explore Sonny's backstory with his nuclear family before he came back to Salem as an adult.

I made the mistake of following Freddie's YouTube videos and basically....dude gives me the heebie jeebies. Like really bad.

Really, I had no idea that he came off like that. I have not followed him in a while and he always seemed level-headed ambitious and a cool guy. I know that his yoyo dieting was a bit problematic at times but to each his own.

I'm not sure this is the right place for this post, but anywhoseways......

Molly Burnett aka Melanie is now a cast member on Law and Order SVU and she's good.  VERY good, IMO.  It's going to take a little time to integrate her into the existing cast, as she's replacing departing member, Kelli Giddish (former AMC actor and I love her, wish she was staying on).

In any case, if I didn't know it was the same person who played Melanie, I'd never guess it.  She's - IMO - terrific, so far.  Not a hint of that high-pitched voice, nor any of that frenetic energy that could be so distracting when she was on DOOL.

I'm happy she's found some success and even happier that the success seems so competely deserved.

Makes you wonder who's idea it was for that to happen in the first place when she was on Days.

And I'm happy if she's found success elsewhere so we aren't subjected to Melanie again. Wasn't she supposed to return to Days?

When was that rumor going around? Or was it confirmed?

I'm okay sidestepping all Dr Tan connections. Parker might get a pass if he's well-written (fat chance, I know).

During the summer but it turned out she got a role on SVU instead. That being said we still have Maggie, Sarah and Holly but Dan isn't referenced at all with any of them so.

Evan (Brock) definitely had chemistry with Allie (or AllieDevil).  They should have ran with that rather than this silly Chanel/Alex threesome crap.

I am utterly baffled that this show doesn't seem to get what they have with Brock. I will never get it. If he can't play Evan, why can't they have him play Jeremy Horton or Abby's I mean Stephanie's Seattle ex who comes here determined to win her back?

Although in this particular case, it really is that this show decided that having an interracial lesbian couple was more important than who actually had chemistry with each other. (And again, if they really wanted that, it should have been Lani and Kristen because we all know damn well those two were hot for each other.)

I guess technically they're bisexual/pansexual/fluid...

Or, he had sex with himself and as usual, didn't know the difference.

And then they posted it to Tik Tok using the Looney Tunes music.

How very sad.  John Aniston was such a treasure, such a pleasure of a man, who knew how to deliver a zinger with zest, say more with one eyebrow raised than most could with a page of dialogue.  What a loss his presence will be.  We've seen much less of him in recent years but he was always still "there", always still the possibility of getting to see more.

I'm grateful for what we've had and selfish enough to wish for more.
