I do not view FV and RC as power house anything.  The only reason why GH is still on the air is because there is nothing viable - and cheaper - to replace it.  FV and RC didn't save anything.

Jean Passanante has worked alongside Ron before, at OLTL, when she was ostensibly his assistant HW at one point, I believe. She still never got in the way of what he was doing. She facilitated breakdowns and often improved on pacing. I don't see her doing anything else here until and unless specifically stated. (She's also a terrible HW.)

I don't believe we have a true way of gauging how much the network may have stepped in re: stuff like the kids or Obrecht yet. A lot of this still falls under the margin of error where Frank and Ron rotate characters off for weeks or months at a time, and we think they're done, and then they come back with a vengeance. It's happened before, many times, with many characters. I was under the impression Obrecht was simply taking her turn on the wheel, as were the kids. I think that may have changed, but I just don't know yet. I've called this show as undergoing real change a number of times and then it doesn't, and I won't believe it until I see more. I do think Spencer was very specifically toned down when last we saw him.

I also think the network was all for hiring big soap stars, the same way FV and RC were - Stafford, Miller, etc. But I don't think what's been done with them was the network. I don't think anyone at the network could possibly be thrilled about Franco, Nina, Ric, Madeline, Denise, Morgan, Kiki, etc. I don't think anyone but Brian Frons got that involved in the granular minutiae.

Incidentally, 'the network' was allegedly behind the shelving of the godawful and boring "Jason undercover with the Jeromes" plot, so that's something to credit them with.

I thought I remember reading rumors that JP had a big hand in the "gold" that was the Fords' ascension stories that summer/fall of 2010.

I think he traded Obrecht for Donna Mills.  Because..."Knots Landing".

I'm sure she did, in the execution. But I think putting too much on her is a convenient excuse for Ron and Frank. They went all-out with those characters for over a year. Until the week before the character died, Ron was fighting with people on Twitter about Ford and how his redemption story was just like Todd Manning's.

And Donna Mills costs them too much and is too busy to use regularly the way they can use Kathleen Gati. This is just another pointless stint for Donna.

I do think they're preoccupied with finding random places to shove Donna Mills back in.

Oh, you had to go and say that, didn't you TeeVee329? Because now we get this:

Madeline interrupts Maxie and Nathan's dinner

Oh who knows what happened with that mess?

He seems to be good buddies with Tuc Watkins (and his babies) and he's been in a few things since OLTL ended that showed he could very much erased the twitchy crap.

Although, I'd be happy to believe that the mythological "network" that controls so much may have said No More OLTL-Alums at some point and that's why no one else has shown up. (I do wish the mythological "network" would go whole hog on that order and cast out the remaining two.)

I would've thought JPL would be happy staying home playing house-husband to Tuc Watkins (we're all thinking it). He seemed very content in that life and being out of the spotlight. Everything I've ever heard about them offscreen, from people who didn't know them from the show, is that Farah Fath (who I do like sometimes, despite all her mischief) was the troublemaker there, and the boss. JPL on his own is no great actor, but he's also not a bad egg.

But woo, we are OT. Yes, I do think they would've cast more OLTL stars on GH, possibly JP, and I do think the network stepped in after the lawsuit and said 'enough.'

If I could ask a question about the business of head writing regime changes, is it similar to sports (football) when a new head coach comes in and fires all of the old staff? He might keep a couple of the old coaches around, but generally he cleans house. With a new head writer, would we also see all new or mostly new episode/breakdown writers?

Well, that is exactly what RC/FV did. Can't remember if prior regime changes followed suit, though.

No, not really. There was turnover but a lot of the writers were around since the Labine era. Guza himself was a dialogue writer for GH in the 80s.

Then guza has no excuse for the rewritten history he dished out.

This made me laugh for a solid 10 minutes:

Like, is Lucky possessed by a literal demon? Is he Ireland’s Hannibal Lecter? Does he have a stash of kiddie porn? WHAT? Because it kind of sounds like he’s just a gigantic drama llama with a bad case of depression and an inexplicable aversion to shampoo. And in that case, call me crazy, but it sure seems like some therapy and good haircut would solve 99% of his problems.

The thing is, with that Despair in the Afternoon post, the blogger went to bat for Ron as long as she could. She was still defending him earlier this year. When Ron's biggest defenders are starting to give up, you know there's a problem.

Interesting. I didn't know this. But I do love that nearly everyone is turning on him. It's about damn time.

What if Vanessa Marcil and BryDawg got into a Twitter fight?

I imagine it would be a whole lot of incoherence, because neither of them would probably be "listening" to what the other had to say and they'd just be going round and round

Vanessa:

S&B would have had a much better kid than that guy who was named after Jason

:someone would run and tattle to BC:

Bryan: I don't know what you're talking about lady but apparently you're insulting Morgan and that's fucked up and wrong

Vanessa: STFU (which coming from her could mean anything from shut the fuck up to Sad to Find Ugliness or something)

Bryan: you shut up!!

Vanessa: what who r u? how do you feel about cheese?

Bryan: it's pretty cool

and so on and so on

If Geary trash talks about the show, writing and the two fuckwits, will they rescind their offer to have him come back as Luke down the road? I ask because I remember that article that announced he was leaving after 37 years, that they would keep the door open for him, which made me think Luke wasn't going to get killed off.

But with this show, that could still happen, since no one stays dead anyway. Unless you are AJ or Duke.

The Lion King? Really? o_O

Of course, if TG is all "the people writing this show are insane hacks now, FYI, and I was hopped up on pain meds when I said nice things about the Fluke story" ... well, I'll take back some of the mean things I've said about him.

I won't. Because one doesn't cancel out the other--meaning all the condescending dreck that came out of his mouth regarding Luke and Laura...how he was trying to "challenge" the viewers, and how we should "get over" Luke and Laura...

I'm sure Ron will have plenty to say about it on Twitter. And maybe BC will instagram his dog doing an interpretive dance (choreographed by JVP) expressing their opinions. Because at least BC's dog is alive and uneaten*.

*Is that a word? I feel like it's a word, but my spellchecker disagrees.

You know what would really get Ron's goat? If there was a bit that went like this:

"our latest headwriter . . . forgive me, his name slips my mind right now . . . ."

I have my doubts. Biting back at Tony Geary - who I am sure they want to return at some point - is a mountain too high for Ron. He'll be told to keep quiet, and maybe leak more to DC. He'd have to be drunk or suicidal on a Brydog/Gawker Media Editorial Staff level.

I don't know . . . While the writing certainly hasn't helped, I think the Dark Luke and now Luke exit stories have shown that Tony holds no cache with viewers.

In all fairness to Tony, I don't think the departure or arrival of any one "star" would move the needle at this point.

ETA: I think it would take Kimberly McCullough, Tristan Rogers, and Anders Hove all coming on for a 13 week stint together to finally wrap up the captive Robin story, to really move the needle at this point.

Throw Scrubs fans a bone by having Faison tell Robin that he or Helena or Obrecht did something to Patrick, Anna, Mac, etc to blind them to the obviousness of her captivity*, and then actively promote saving herself and reuniting with her parents, Patrick, Emma, etc,.

*this is one thing I'd buy a totally off-screen explanation for. Helena bugged their home, Faison had face time with all of them, and Dr. O is at the hospital with all those drugs. A vague, yet simple, 'villains did something to Anna, etc to blind them from the truth' is good enough for me and would go a long way towards fixing some massive plot holes and out-of-character behavior.

We'll just get more of the same old same old Luke/Laura fans stuck in the past, Luke/Laura ruined his life by securing him a job to ro come back to whenever he wanted it for 37 years that let him make a ton of money and take 6 months off every year, etc etc. blerg. Maybe he'll say some nice things though about the cast and the crew though.

I'd love for some this-regime-bashing but he probably won't do it.

Also, who is Michael Logan doing this "the lion roars" stuff for? Tony Geary doesn't read his twitter, and most of the people who care are disillusioned with Geary.

I imagine Ron holds a fair amount of resentment for Tony blocking them on fully redeeming Luke, and reuniting Luke and Laura, at every turn since 2012 - and in fairness, so do I. I'm pretty sure that was a holy grail for him, not unlike some of the big moves he pulled with old characters and couples on OLTL.

Ron's usual way of dealing with that kind of frustration (Jack Wagner, etc.) is leaking to the online press. He'd have to be very stupid to tweet-snipe about TG. Geary is too big a game. He only goes after the viewers on Twitter - or actors who are long gone from the show, or his own writing staff, past and present. And the fact is, everything else Ron has gotten wrong with what he was left with or actually able to do - whether with Luke's story or many others - is on him, and Frank, and the production process, and the bad habits they have grown to institutionalize.

Even if he could, Geary won't give a shit. He's not on twitter or on any of the soap sites, and if he somehow found out, he's not gonna get mad. He's not Jack Wagner, he doesn't give a crap what Ron says. So maybe Ron knows it would be in vain anyway.

We have no indication GH called him for a part, AFAIK.

I know that, but I wanted to give JPL a bit of credit. Besides, it kinda makes me laugh. Weren't Frank and JPL golf buddies or was it Frons and JPL? I do kinda think he'd have made a good Dillion.
