Whoa. What was today all about? (Full disclosure: I'm still not watching it, just  reacting to your comments.) They went back to NY; for what, contract talks starting? It sounds like they were trying desperately to re-ignite the old sparks from the early days, with Mika playing the coquette around all the boys (well, Barnicle and Willie) and acting like sports and culture talk is beneath her...until maybe Joe kicked her to remind her to stay engaged. Trying to make some sparks fly to prove to management that they can really perform for 3 hours and appeal to a varied audience?

Meeka went into full sex-kitten/school marm/coy/faux outrage mode.  That kind of talk is so above her and her intellectual abilities.

Is it above her intellectual abilities, or below? I think all of her recent attempts to be "serious journalist" Mika were above her abilities and the vapid, shallow, flirty Meeka is her normal level of intellectual functioning. It sounds like it was easy for her to revert back to that today. It would make her life easier, I bet, if she just accepted the fact that she is best suited for the dumb(ish) blonde role to counteract the serious newsy/punditry of her husband and guests.

Sounds like today's show was painful. Kudos to my intrepid recapping friends.

I am amazed at the lengths that Joe goes to come up with new talking points. Joe couldn't provide any information on which Governors were proposing banning hand guns or prayers in schools.

Joe's first campaign for Congress was strongly supported by pro life activists after he defended a man who was accused of killing a doctor that was performing abortions in Florida.

Joe used to be a strong defender of pro life judges etc.

I remember recapping shows during the Obama administration where Joe used some polls that showed that abortion was less popular among young people & that the pro life movement was gaining ground.

Joe would shout down any guests that warned about the Supreme Court over turning Roe v Wade.

Mika was also pro life, but she was very quiet when the issue was brought up on the show.

Recap continued with wine for a few minutes before the Canadian election debates.

Mika was happy that Barnicle appeared.

Barnicle is shocked that the country is divided over vaccines. It was politicized.

Joe want more PSA's by celebrities to support vaccines.

Joe remembered that Elvis Presley did PSA's for polio vaccines.

Barnicle wants Tom Brady to do PSA's.

Mika was upset that there are no females in the Taliban government.

Janis Mackey Frayer who is well known to Canadians as" PJ Jan" , because she started as a host for the Youth TV Network in Canada. It's similar to Nickleodeon. She works for NBC News now in Beijing.

She interviewed a Chinese insider who blamed the USA for war in Afghanistan.

The show aired an old glamor shot of Mika & Joe in NY next to a taxi cab.

Joe's hair is parted differently & Mika is wearing a sleeveless turquoise dress.

I think it was aired to remind NBC executives that Mika & Joe used to be part of the action in NYC.

Joe reads too much Twitter and then passes it off as "many people" are saying. He knows that random, unverified accounts like @libsrule2047 are not Democratic legislators capable of shaping policy. Literally no member of my home state (New York) has proposed these things.

Joe wants Joe to do PSA's. Maybe that's why they're in NY, to film them. Mika can cry-beg people to vax up and Joe can do an informercial-length, wandering soliloquy, eventually getting around to saying the same thing.

Tuned in at 7:30. Meeka was “forced” to read the tidbit about the upcoming series on the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal.  You could tell she found the whole thing very distasteful. Her tone and expression reeked “above it all” … she was dismissive of the whole thing and got through it in record time. She also stumbled over the names of the cast members; but I don’t think she actively mispronounced anything. The next story was about Pete Buddegeig (sp?) and his partner adopting a baby. She was cooing. Meeka, not the baby.

Catty here - she is looking very refreshed; seems more relaxed than usual. That is my 15 minutes of viewing today. Oh! Forgot.  She, along with Joe, mentioned the death of the actor who was in The Wire; oddly, she put more effort into that (Joe was in on this bit)  than she did the one about the Clinton scandal. Joe engaged and I must say, Meeka went along with it.  You would have thought she had actually watched it (or had even heard of it).

I just saw that segment. Mika appeared to be angry at having to read a story about the Clinton -Lewinsky affair. The Today show was able to interview Monika, so NBC is busy promoting the series.

Joe was absent during this segment despite his involvement & vote on Clinton's impeachment.

I am hoping that Joe will have a cameo in that show. Joe used to tell viewers that he voted for impeachment on 2 counts instead of 4.

Wasn’t Joe one of the people yelling about Biden screwing up the Afghanistan withdrawal?

Granted, it was just two weeks ago, but I could have sworn he was with that chorus of disapproval.

Joe was opposed to the troop withdrawal from Afghanistan. However, he was absent from the show when Kabul fell & people were trying to latch onto planes.

Joe's criticism of Biden has been muted compared to his response to Obama withdrawing from Iraq & Trump abandoning the Kurds in Syria.

Mika & Joe agreed to be filmed together again with Willie & Eddie Glaude.

Mika decided to find a new way to pronounce ICU. It's ICUUUUs, with a deep voice.

Mika is wearing a black dress. Joe is wearing hi new dark blue suit.

Joe is outraged that Joe Rogan took Ivermectin.

Willie is happy that the West Virginia Governor support vaccination.

Joe said Alabama football coaches support vaccination.

Joe said Heilmann took Ivermectin & Maine Lobster food to fight Covid.

Joe used his cellphone to read a tweet from an American soldier that supported Biden's successful withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Willie reminded Joe that 13 soldiers died at the airport.

On the surface, it seems they are trying to get the show back to where it was (maybe two - three years ago?).  It is possible that a network honcho gave them some "advice" on how the show has slipped and needs to improve; their contract negotiations are maybe coming up.

I think appearing in the New York studio, having guests around the table, both Twins trying to engage in keeping viewers tuned, is due to the network wanting things to get back to normal.  But I think it is just "appearances" ... I don't think either of them is interested in getting the show back on track, putting in the time and work.

As I clicked by this morning I noticed they'd been safely put away, back in their boxes, after an exciting week.

The show started with a 10 minute discussion about the US Open. Mika was happy that there were 2 female teenagers competing in the final. They will be eligible to be interviewed for Mika`s 50 over 50 group in 31 years.

Mika supports mandating vaccines at workplaces. Companies want cover from the federal government to issue mandates for their staff.

Joe & Mika may have earned a year of goodwill (ok a week) with me just for going in on Donny's decor ("What do you do at that table?") and his ridiculous WEST! art ("What the hell does that mean??"). Mika going in on his weightlifting was amazing (I just wish Mika was better at mocking).

What is the art on Donny's bedroom wall? Lips? Apparently it traumatized Joe (I am blocking any mental pictures of a possible devil's three-way).

Joe actually seemed to show signs of life today.

I like Jeff Daniels a lot (Mika didn't have to call Dumb & Dumber awful to his face or talk about his dad like they all grew up together) and I think I understood the point he may have been trying to make about what republicans used to be but his story came off as My Dad's Black Friend and he reminded me of Dorit on Real Housewives and it was kinda cringe-y.

chick b…Dorit! So much money to spend on designer labels but still managing to make it look tacky. Bless her heart.

I saw the beginning of yesterday’s show and I must say the US Open discussion was wonderful.  This is what sets MJ apart from the other shows of that type- they can relax and have some fun with stories, of any type, that are in the news. Best thing about it is that it didn’t give have the insider/clubhouse vibe that many of their segments do. No Red Sox, no soccer.

OMG! I know I'll get a whupping for posting here but couldn't resist d/t the coincidental timing: Just this morning, during MJ showtime hours, I was watching RHOBH and during a Dorit and PK conversation, discussing Erika's risque posing on IG while caught in her husband's drama, PK said "Her legs in the air is not a good look, Babe." Ha! Sound familiar?! We often joke about Mika and RH's...but even they know when OTT behavior can nullify any sense of serious professionalism. (We can't unsee that, Meeks.)

I see the PR machine is going full throttle on the podcast...didn't they try that before? I could never tolerate the torture of Joe rambling for an hour, with Mika mewing in the background.

I have a feeling that the shilling for the podcast will make shilling for Joe's book, any Meeka project pale in comparison.  The ego and grift of these two knows no bounds and the network is all in.  Grudging admiration here -laziest two people on tv. One of the stories today on Mediaite showed a picture of Joe ranting with the headline that he conducted a screaming rant against Facebook or some such.  Did this actually happen?  Not that I don't believe Joe went on a screaming rant against Facebook; but I know that Mediaite exaggerates a lot of the time.  They are constantly having stories and pics of Megan Kelly's podcast. Almost like they are promoting it.  So know we know what to expect when Joe starts his.

"Instagram! Teenage girls!" It got a little weird.

Yes, MJ - big corporations dont care about anyone's well-being. I mean, I'm glad they're addressing this but I wish they'd talk a little more about personal responsibility. I stopped following a celebrity who used to push some good product bc their constant pandemic travelling party-throwing is not something multimillionaires should be selling, imo. No, I'm not a teen but what does it show kids when adults are exhibiting or following aspirational behavior online (i.e. New England glamour shots and hobnobbing with DC elite)?

What was the rant actually about? Besides giving Joe a platform.  The pressures on young women with regard to their weight? Their looks?  Their social status?  I do not have Instagram and did not know that it is part of Facebook.  Did Meeka speak up?

I cannot imagine the kinds of pressure on young people with so many social media sites; so is Instagram worse than others?  Is Facebook? Because it sounds like Joe was focusing on one company/media outlet.  But it did get him his at-least-weekly picture and article on Mediaite. Again, just like Megyn Kelly... Joe is in good company.

I've been away and have been catching up on last! weeks! shows! on DVR, so feel free to scroll past this if y'all have (hopefully) moved on with your lives since then, I just have some thoughts

also I watched some of these shows with insomnia and literally drafted another post, and then the draft weirdly disappeared, so this will be the less rambly version, I am sure you are all grateful

they were actually in studio last week?? FOR TWO WHOLE DAYS?? I literally screamed. This hasn't happened for like three months. I kinda see what you guys were saying about it not really being a 100% the same as the old days, but at the same time, it is SO SO much better. everyone is making eye contact! Joe is actually turning and looking at Mika when she's talking, as though she's a real human being, instead of staring catatonically into space like he usually does. he's engaging with the guests and he was even actually cute and funny and understanding with the teacher's union lady instead of all angry-ass and belligerent. Barnicle was there, in his blue suit. Willie had awesome weird diamond-patterned socks. All was good

then on Friday's show for some reason Joe turned up in his Florida! Box, using his fake-ass Used Car Salesman Funeral Director Voice that he inexplicably also used to announce the election. Ugh, whyyy?

Willie and Mika literally carried that show, they actually showed up on location when it mattered, and tbh I wasn't planning on crying but when Willie told the story about his pregnant sister-in-law and his stoic lil face crumpled i totally lost it. and then I composed myself and everything and then Mika did her "the sky was blue! the firemen knew they were gonna die!" thingy and I lost it again, damn them, i wasn't planning on crying, but okay, they made me cry. idk why everyone was hating on her blouse, it was nice and sorta hopeful? ymmv. Oh and that lady and her twenty-year old kid made me tear up as well. Also our Khaleesi Katty Kay was there, always a plus. but again, what even was the point of used car salesman! remote! Joe! in between all that actually authentic emotion. Mika and Willie literally carried that show, i was so moved and proud of them

Then on Monday back to the Florida boxes again! but at least they were in good spirits and Joe was being less of an ass. we got a tour of Donny's American Psycho Dentist's Office!!! don't worry, hon, an Andy Warhol does not make you an asshole, and next time turn your camera so we can see it dumbass. You are only an asshole if your house is filled with Jeff Koons trash and you have a shark in formaldehyde in your living room. but also, PLEASE WEAR PANTS WHEN YOU ARE ON THE TEE-VEE

I was laughing my ass off at AWOL! Mika going: "It's nice to *see* you Jeff!" and in studio! Jeff goddamn Daniels!, looking the camera, going: "it's nice to be *seen*" uh huh...some IN-STUDIO SHADE right there

i'm with Mika though, Dumb and Dumber is awful

is it true Jeff Daniels's character in the Newsroom is actually based on Joe? I did hear it was Lawrence O'Donnell, but also this character yelled a lot. he was a republican. he was in love with his co-worker. he played guitar! was this real or just a rumor? it's not as good as the West Wing

i never made it to this week's yesterday & today shows, are they worth it? I was all hyper and insomniac when watching but I actually enjoyed these other shows, i don't wanna be let down if it's gonna be all boring again

did anyone take one for the team and actually listen to joe's podcast?? I'm kinda curious but also concerned it will be like being yelled at incredibly close

They were covering a WSJ piece about FB having data & actual written reports that IG does harm to teenage girls. Mike shoot her head as they were covering the story, Willie spoke of the relevance in his home as his daughter is 14 and then Joe started SCREAMING. No illumination, no raising of relevant questions...just yelling "FACEBOOK KNEW BAD!" (or something like that).

I don't think negative influences of unattainable perfection are anything new. But these folks work for a partnership of global technology and a major network that rarely hires any woman over 120 lbs. These influences are everywhere and they're not going to stop until they stop making money.

The story is that Facebook ran internal data analysis and determined on their own that Instagram negatively influences teenagers.  They have self image issues exacerbated by "social comparison" only found within Instagram.  There's no straight line from this to depression or suicide or eating issues or self medication, but it's known there is an effect from viewing perceived perfection on Instagram and measuring oneself as less.
Should Zuckerburg be better?  Yeah.  Is Joe and Mika's hysterical outrage warranted?  No.
They scream and rant and lay the sanctimony on thick, but they do nothing to address nuance and champion causes that could be seen-through to completion.
To wit: shouldn't she want teenaged girls to know their value at a stage in life when it matters most?  Perhaps upper level corporate managers should possibly not be her target audience... i mean, if she really cared about causes?

I haven't watched the show yet. Joe has been critical of Facebook since the company went public on the stock market in 2012 at $28. It is now trading at $373. Joe & Donny Deutsch said the company made a huge mistake by letting Mark Zuckerberg run the company he founded . Joe said Mark was too young to run a publicly traded company. Joe used to make fun of Zuckerberg wearing a hoodie at public meetings yet he started wearing fleece tops on Morning Joe in 2012 when he separated from his second wife.

Mika & Joe used to promote their events on Facebook Live before they moved to Florida.

Mika uses Instagram which is owned by Facebook to promote her "brand" on a regular basis.

Wednesday recap.

I was happy that the show started with clips of the late Canadian comedian, Norm Macdonald.

Joe said he was a very funny comedian. Willie liked Norm's slow burn jokes.

Joe loved his impersonations of Burt Reynolds on SNL.

Mika's battle with the TelePrompter began at 6 03 am when she forgot the word "show" when describing Larry Elder. She said Conservative talk host rather than talk show host.

Mika was happy that Gov. Newsom defeated the recal effort.

Newsom will keep Covid restrictions.

Kornacki ! said that the recall votes was very similar to the 2020 Presidential election.

Why have they selected angles with long takes that has Eddie's back to us?  This morning's director's decisions are odd to me, or, I am just not used to them recording in studio.

Not enough to close down her own account though. Where else to show off the glam selfies and promote the podcast (where she describes Joe's podcast as ""we" start out with..."; is she on it too?). Yesterday's multiple pictures/videos were her leading her mother through weight training and a bike ride. She flubbed on the bike ride, though, by showing her mother's minder running behind her. Again Mika just posing as the wonder woman she thinks she is.

Joe & Mika spent over half the summer MIA from their show.  They come back and within 2 weeks are already taking more time off.  If you check Joe's Twitter account today, it's all about his podcast and his guests, etc. for today. Really, if Joe & Mika are going to devote themselves to this podcast when they should be doing their show, I'd fire them.  No one is saying they can't do both. But it appears Joe can't.  From 6am to 9am he's got a show to do on MSNBC.  After that, he can spend however much time he likes on his podcast.  But clearly, there seems to be a conflict for them.  If I were in charge, I'd be issuing an ultimatum.  That said, I agree, the show runs so much smoother when Willie is in charge.

Outrageous that he posted this "ad" for his podcast during the MJ's show hours with not one word about the actual show. He's so checked out; it's time to change his Twitter handle...@JoeNBC isn't really an accurate description anymore. I guessed right that Mika would be a part of the podcast. Is anyone on earth interested in hearing an encore of crazy shit her mother has done? As usual, Mika adds nothing and shows again that she has no real story of her own. She just attaches herself to others' exploits. Gee, maybe she'll brag about her brother's ambassadorships and how she attended her father's diplomatic meetings as a young girl! How fresh! How enlightening! MSNBC needs to pull the show. They are insulting their loyal viewers by keeping these two employed.

Yes, Plumbago B…they are certainly taking their viewers for granted. It shows on this Board; we discuss them as much or more than we do the the show at this point. And most of us now just “drop in” instead of watching in blocks. That cannot be good news for advertisers.

Isn’t Meeka supposed to get a show or some such on Peacock? My guess is that they are not renewing their MJ contracts - unless they get perks that include scaling back the days they work (maybe they have already done that), time off to do special projects, etc. They think they deserve this after the contract Rachel M got.

I agree with everything that's been said about the laziness and disregard Joe and Mika have for this show. I only watched the show on Wednesday for about 30 minutes. Did not watch at all  on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. It's so boring with the same old contributors and the same rants from Joe. Honestly, I find myself grabbing my phone when I wake up and putting on The Stephanie Miller Show on SXM. It's funny, great guests and no blowbaggery rants. It's time for this show to end and to put two new people in the hosting spot ala "The Morning Show". The producers of this show could learn a thing or two from "The Morning Show". It's obvious that Joe and Mika are zoning out and not interested in being on it anymore. As it is, they are hardly ever there anyway.

I loved Meeka pretending interest in The Emmys.  This could be newsy and fun; but I know that deep down, Meeka is faking.  Then Joe has his pal on to discuss soccer -and, of course, they plug his book yet again.  That is not just MJ; most of the regular guests, from 6 am through Brian Williams, have written books that they promote.  Seemingly endlessly.  Meeka did read the news headlines at 6:00; but didn't go into any depth on the stories.

Posters here are correct; Joe is giving most of himself to his podcast.  And I can't blame him - he obviously wants to do it.  But not at the expense of his day job.  😁
