I gotta agree, that was BS.  Why can't pass interference be reviewed? Who made up these rules?

I agree. Mika did not offer any comments on the issue. If Joe was around, it would have been discussed for the first 10 minutes of the show.

As sick as I am of Tom Brokaw and his marble mouth, I do agree with what he said about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (she has not reached RBG levels of accomplishments so I refuse to call her by that "other" name) and some of the other new members of congress.   While I'm sure they're excited to be there, they need to calm down and get to work.   (And by "work" I don't mean showing older congress people how to use twitter.)  As the saying goes, "Act like you've been there before."

Maybe Tom should do some research, as he is a "journalist".  She has sponsored or co sponsored fifteen bills.

This is where Mika should have spoken up.

She might have sponsored or cosponsored fifteen bills, but how many people even know about that?  She seems to be more interested in being the "rising star" of Congress and teaching people how to tweet.  JMHO

WTF Mika's quoting Moby Dick this morning.

That was a weird analogy. I wonder if Mika knows that Ahab's obsession winds up killing him.

The round table discussions are so much better than the bunker Brady Box interviews.

6:18 am.  Mika does what so many annoying cable news hosts are doing these days -- calling on Democrats to concede on the shutdown because "we all know Trump won't budge," citing a Democratic congressman who's saying "Give Trump his wall," because of the human suffering.

I can't stand how Mika and other talking heads proceed from the premise that Republicans are not expected to behave like caring human beings, so the burden of conceding things, of being "the adults in the room," of doing the right thing, is always placed squarely on the shoulders of the Democrats -- in essence, rewarding the Republicans politically for being craven and cruel.   They would have the Democrats abandon their stance for the greater good while the Republicans hold a celebration in the Rose Garden.  I knew from the start this is where things would end up, because this is how it always goes.

Mika just said "AOC."

Am I the only person who hates texting shorthand finding its way into everyday speech?  When did it become too difficult to pronounce people's name?   AOC.  MBS.  RBG.   And so on.   It's not just that it's lazy, it arrogantly assumes that every listener is a politics or media wonk who immediately recognizes whom the initials refer to and leaves those who don't guessing.

Sherrod Brown says "Paul Ryan ends his ignimonious term as Speaker" and then adds "I've always wanted to say ignimonious on Morning Joe."

Except the word is "ignominious."

A bit like "ignoramus."

Why are these people on TV and I'm not?

She said it so snobbily and smugly too. Like any visible woman outside her tight little KYV bubble is some amusing circus toy.

It was both funny and frustrating at how hard Mika and Willie tried to get Dean and Brown to "give Trump a win" in order to end the standoff while conceding that the Dems were right on policy and had public opinion on their side.

And Dean and Brown were like "Nope. We don't negotiate with tantrum throwers."

As if we didn't already  know that Mika's entire "Know Your Value" schtick was a big cynical fraud, we got the receipts on today's show. There she is, Ms. "Master Negotiator," advocating that the Dems just give up and give Trump the win because "he's never going to move."

It's all so clear now. "Trump's never going to open the government so they might as well give him his wall" = "I'm never going to get that big raise so I might as well sleep with my boss."

Way to "know your value," Meeks.

I liked this part of your post SO DAMN HARD. Mika's staged, monotonous monologue had me shouting at the TV. These silly soliloquies are ridiculous, not sure what focus group told the show producers that they were a good idea.

Our Heidi has taken to TV like... um... dammit I can't come up with a clever turn of phrase.  She looks great and is more and more self-possessed and confident.  I'm a fan.    And it's sexist and thirsty, but she's really good looking (get off my back, you all had Thomas Roberts and his rock solid jaw and 10ft wide shoulders and piercing eyes).

Mika's back and forth with Steph in Davos had me shouting at the TV in the gym.  Did Mika just jump on board Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez' socialist rich-people-bad bandwagon and pretend to get into a roundabout with Steph about economics and wealth and power?  Then, did she say, I'll debate you and Joe with me and Eddie any day.  Mika didn't even make a comment.  She didn't make 1 point.  She didn't offer one opinion.  She played a clip of AOC and then let Eddie Glaud speak, and then Steph and Eddie spoke, then Mika was like, wow, yo and I had a great debate about money and power, Steph.
100% behind Steph's impossibly cute smile with her beanie on, she's thinking Mika is a feckless * and simply a necessary evil Stephanie must endure to get her job done.

Very true!. I laughed when Mika started quoting Moby Dick!.

At the end of the show, they interviewed someone who wrote a book about Ted Kennedy vs Jimmy Carter. Mika remembered being there and was happy that her dad came home after Carter lost.

I vaguely recall Mika & Joe attending one of those Davos style summits. Mika & Joe used to dress up with coats & boots.

Mika is not very good at debating economics & tax policy.

At the end of the show I realize they didn't have on a republican to defend their side. (Michael Steele  wasn't taking that bait).

Not of course unless you count Mitt Romney's piss poor audio that ran two or three times.

That would be the same Mitt Romney whose courage Joe was slobbering over a couple of weeks ago?

Mika & Joe should stop trying to promote their personal friends as the next saviours of the USA. They have been doing this for many years & it always backfires.

Mika was upset that Willie discussed Mariano Rivera getting into the Hall Of Fame with 100% of the votes. She said she could have slept in longer if she knew that Willie would take the first 5 minutes of the show  to talk about baseball. How dare Willie interrupt Queen Mika from her important rants about Moby Dick!

I can't think of the last time that Morning Joe had a 100% pro Trump panelist like you see on Fox.  They used to have the GOP Congressman who was allergic to blazers on the show. He had his sleeves rolled up. He looked like he was going to explode at any moment. He was a member of the Freedom Caucus. Jim Jordan ?

Mika continued to bang the capitulation drum, calling for the Democrats to give Trump a partial wall as a face-saving gesture for him.

Only she called it a “safe-facing” gesture.

She needs to just stop talking and let the articulate people take over.

oh, except now Barnacle is both-sidesing again, so, no, just shut up, show.

I haven’t been watching this much lately because I can not tolerate Mika’s poor TelePrompTer skills, school marm tone and generally unpleasant vibe. Really this show has become unwatchable. And with her hosting alone it is way too Mika-centric. I’ve had it on for 15 minutes this morning and feel like all I’ve heard is Mika’s drone and commercials.

i agree wholeheartedly.   Her "in-charge" personality comes off phony as hell.   I switched it off about 7 am.

Mika has responded to the growing viewer backlash over her appearance by wearing a red blazer jacket. Mika did have trouble reading Nancy Pelosi's tweet. She mispronounced the word government. Mika does not like Trump threatening witnesses . Jake Sherman is joining MSNBC.

Mika was happy that Pelosi cancelled Trump's speech.

Haas does not support a military invasion of Venezuela.

I did like the red sweater/jacket.  In the second hour, she said “Joe is in the mend.”  Why even bother to say that, when he’s already off so many days?

And when Mika handed off to Hallie Jackson, Hallie said “Stephanie is on assignment in Davos.”  See, Morning Joe, that is what it means to be on assignment.  It’s not sitting in the basement in a bathrobe, retweeting.

Idle speculation, but Joe's continued absence this week and the whole remote hosting set up makes me wonder whether there might actually be something seriously wrong with him health-wise.

I think it's time for some of their guests (Senators, Representatives etc.) to just stop showing up at the NY studio and do interviews remotely. If the hosts don't feel like showing up, why should they?

I'm glad their absence has become a "thing". Maybe MSNBC will realize that they aren't fooling anyone.

I don't think they care. It's all about the ratings/$.

I can't believe the ratings are up on this show.  Can Nielsen capture 5 minutes of viewership? That's about how long most people can take it before they turn it off.

That tweet said they moved to FL to take care of parents. I didn't know Mika's mom was down there.

Link to comment

"So why do it this way? Well, people at the program say MSNBC has given Joe and Mika a lot of leeway because the show is doing so well. “Morning Joe’s” overall audience grew 12 percent during 2018 (averaging 1.1 million daily)..."
The show would do even better if Stephanie Ruhl were the host.  Ratings are up because the united states is in real danger, and people are interested... it's entertaining to hear people insult Trump, and people hate-watch to increase their dislike of Trump.
Joe and Mika add nothing.  There is no chemistry, for F's sake.  They're never in the same studio with the cast/crew, and most of the time - literally, most of the time - one of the two of them is never on the show.
I would bet that MSNBC's ratings in general grew 12% since Trump.

Paul Farhi of The Washington Post has a long tweet addressing the hosts disappearance. Says MSNBC won’t address where they are though sources say they’re in FL sitting feet from each other (not separate bunkers) and that they get away with it because of ratings.

I didn't realize that Mika's mom was in Florida during the winter.  It is nice of Mika & Joe to offer to take care of their parents.

I do think that Joe will be very upset at Paul Farhi for asking about the true location of the Morning Joe Bunker. It should be  a National Secret:)

I'm surprised their ratings are up.  I've stopped watching them because, as many here have said, they are unwatchable.  If their ratings are up and others' are down, I guess that speaks to the other shows being worse?  I can't imagine.
