I only caught the last 5-10 minutes.  Enough to see the further canonization of St. Ronnie ... former candidate for Worst President Ever.  But MJ loves waxing poetically about him.  And Susan Del P's breathless, teary (someone above mentioned that) homage was way over-the-top. And I also heard the Joe/Donnie schtick. Which is always annoying.  And of course, whispering, reverently, "Conservative" as though in prayer, has also gotten really tiresome.

I then switched to Mediaite and saw Meeka in the headlines, apparently teary?  And yes, as someone mentioned..how much do The Gold Dust Twins pay Dan Abrams to keep their names and show mentioned all the time?  Are their ratings down a bit?  Is that why Abrams gives them all the publicity?  Thinking it will make people tune in?  That has to be it. It cannot be because the show is so interesting and must-see.

Are either in the studio?  Please, go away together for a week or two.  But I am sure they are both afraid the show would get better ratings.

They showed Laura Ingraham being disgusting, then they showed... wait for it... RONALD REAGAN, because of course, in speeches and slow motion B rolls and then we get a split screen of Joe slobbing Reagan's knob and Mika sitting in her split screen doing literally nothing.  Until Joe stops talking and she kicks it to commercial.
Sorry it's not 1982, Joe.

I switched the channel in disgust.  Missing in Joe's Ode to St. Ronnie was that Reagan himself wasn't above using racist dog whistles (i.e., "Cadillac-driving welfare queens" and "strapping young bucks buying T-bone steaks with food stamps") to appeal to the "economic anxiety" and resentment of white voters.  Although Reagan never explicitly used the words "black people" when he made these comments, one would have to be dumb, deaf and blind not to know exactly to whom he was referring.  I guess Joe could be forgiven for his willful ignorance if he wasn't alive at that time, but he heard that not-so-coded language just like a lot of us did.  Some of us heard it in real time; others heard it over the years particularly when it was pointed out that Drumpf and his ilk didn't just spring out of thin air.  I won't even touch on how Reagan opened his presidential campaign in Philadelphia, Mississippi--the same town where three civil rights workers were murdered, and spoke about "state's rights."

Joe fancies himself a student of history.  Yet, he seems to have forgotten that Reagan was opposed to the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act because he didn't believe the federal government should intervene in states' affairs.  He also seems to have forgotten--or willfully ignored--that his good friend, the late Rep. Ron Dellums, fought against the Reagan Administration's "constructive engagement" policy with apartheid South Africa.

But, yeah.  Let's spend part of the show denouncing Laura Ingraham's overtly hateful rhetoric while lionizing Reagan for...what?  Being more subtle perhaps?

There was a segment I believe in the first hour where Meeks set up some clips for Joe that were so obvious all I could think of was if this gig doesn't work out for you, you may want to look into professional mixed team doubles volleyball as she was all here Joe I set this up for you so you can spike it over the net you big hunk of ex-congressman you schmoopie.

It's hilarious with this Brady Bunch set up they have taken to calling out who they are passing the segment to . . . pitiful (but probably makes it easier on poor EP Alex).  With all that extra space at the table they could at least lay out a little nosh for those that did show up . . .

Yeah, I don't get it.   The Reagan years overshadowed almost all of my twenties.   I never thought of him as anything but an actor in clown makeup reciting smarmy drivel.

I started following politics in 1979. The media elite said that Reagan couldn't win because he was an actor who had little policy knowledge. He won 40 states. LOL!

I hope to be snarking full time by Xmas in Sarasota!

While I understand the appeal of warmer weather, I'm afraid the political climate of the U.S. would keep me firmly planted in Canada until at least 2020.

It was my post that mentioned complacency and I don’t know why it was deleted.  The issue was whether everything would work out ok and the system would work in the end.  It was a valid question and worth discussing but Joe didn’t think so.

Today’s guests from a MJ tweet.

Updated Mon. guest list: John Heilemann, Eddie Glaude Jr., Kasie Hunt, Jon Meacham, Adm. James Stavridis, Mark Leibovich, Kristen Welker, Robert Costa, Elle Reeve, Gene Rossi, Yamiche Alcindor, Margaret Carlson, Lee Gelernt and more

Yes they are off to a yawning start this morning.  Aside from Woodman's observations, the only thing I will add is nice of Joe to say he purposely didn't watch MTP because Omarosa was on it.  Bet the higher ups really appreciated that show of support.

No mention of Meeks so I am assuming she is still on her KYV world tour.

God bless John Heilemann . . . the handwringing and whitewashing of Paul Ryan's horrific stint as SOH was enough to make me lose my breakfast and I haven't even eaten it yet.  If he wanted to stop Nunes he would have done it a long time ago.  His eyes are on the private sector prize awaiting him when his pitiful reign ends.

Oh dear god, the Ryan segment was so gag-inducing. The panel is stil totally bought into the mythology of “Ryan as policy wonk,” when the blatant reality is that Ryan never had ANY workable, coherent policy other than throwing old people and little kids off Social Security and Medicaid.

Mark Lebovich is the most odious example of Beltway Hive Mind since Chris Cillizza slithered off the wherever he is now.

ETA: It's also extraordinary to me that NO ONE on the panel commented on the most glaringly alarming aspect of Ryan's self defense - the fact that he claims to have prevented "countless tragedies" through his behind-the-scenes manipulation of Trump. Helloooooo panel...if it's as bad as Ryan claims, why on God's green earth is he not ringing every alarm bell in the Capital and pushing for impeachment himself???? Oh...because that would require, I dunno, CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS on the part of this bozo panel. And patriotism on the part of Ryan. Neither of which appear to be present.

Kasie is wearing a zip front suit jacket from 1990.  And it's ugly. The show was so blah, only good part was when Heilman begged for all the people he know who are close to Ryan, to give an example where Ryan worked behind the scenes, unpublicized, to arrest Trump's behavior and stop things from getting worse.  There was radio silence.

It was 7:04 before I looked up and realized Mika wasn't even there today.  She adds so little (okay, nothing really) to the conversation that it literally was over an hour before I noticed that she wasn't even on the show this morning.  How can a woman who is so glaringly inconsequential to the TV program she "co-hosts" be a supposed champion of women Knowing Their Value?  She herself obviously has no value on MJ.  She contributes nothing of worth to that program, which already sets a pretty low bar.

  • Love 4

When they started piling on Ryan, I really expected his #1 fangirl Kasie to defend him, as she's done in the past "He's a young man who wants to spend time with his family", when he announced he was leaving Congress.  yeah right

The look on her face was a little pinched, she didn't like where the conversation was going, but didn't get a chance to respond.

Heileman didn't actually tell Joe he was brilliant did he?   I think it was re his latest WaPo op ed.  barf

I did watch it, and all I'll say is that Omarosa seemed more credible than any other Trump supporter (current or former) I have seen on one of these shows.   No hesitation in her responses, no circuitous answers or avoiding questions, no self-righteous defensiveness in her tone.   And she has tapes.

Joe Scarborough took the high road against Omarosa?  They had on the skulking, icky dude who just sat near a potted plant in the White House and dished everyone's dirt and wrote a book.  What has she done that's different?  Been a loudmouth on TV for a living?  Pretend to be conservative?  Got fake boobs?  Do you think Joe even knows he's a hypocrite?
So let me see... SHE is beyond the pale to even reference, but the Hieronymus Bosch painting that is this administration is hunky dory?  FU, you imbecile.

Let's get this straight here first--Omarosa will never appear on this show, right?  Because Snoop won't allow it.  You all agree, correct? If Snoop cannot watch Star Wars because it's too much pop culture, what the hell is Omarosa?

Omarosa = witness/court reporter.

Their loss as she certainly is having a great time strafing the countryside today.  But in all honesty, they should stay away from her as they are radioactive and she knows where their bodies are buried and clearly wouldn't hesitate to let fly on the air to grab a few more headlines.

Ah the power of the "pen" . . .

  • Love 3

Mika could take a lesson from Omarosa.  That woman Knows Her Value.

Star Wars is too much pop culture for a woman who could barely get thru college and had a job as an overnight news reader on the 3rd rated cable channel til some slimeball saw her at 3 am and thought she was hot?

She's not exactly writing dissertations on Complex Interdependence and Globalization. She's telling women they should drink milk and wear sun screen for fuck's sake.

She's black and a woman. There's two automatic strikes in Joeball.

Given how nasty, rude and condescending she was when being interviewed by Savannah Guthrie on the Today show, I can't blame MJ for not having Omarosa on.

As a black woman myself, I am embarrassed for her that she felt the need to get in the swamp with the rest of Trump's henchmen/women.   Frankly, it wouldn't surprise me if she and Trump had an affair in the past.  So yeah, she can go take a seat as far as I'm concerned.  I wonder what her husband thinks about this whole mess and her relationship with Trump?

Good grief, MSNBC, do something about this show.  You could have such a wonderful three hours every morning with the right show, the right hosts.  I like most of the reporters and guests they have on.  It's the hosts that ruin it.  Come To Work and Do Your Job.  Both of you.  Jeesus.  This Board ... here...has the talent to snark and poke fun at almost anything.  But we are losing our souls with this ego-driven mess every morning.

Well I have to say I agree with Joe.  No more reality stars, no more insanely rich people.  We need someone that understands and can maneuver through government.

But wow, that was some shade Willie threw referring to Avenatti as a porn star's lawyer . . . ouch.

I'd much rather have Avenatti running a presidential campaign than actually being the candidate.

  • Love 3

I think Avenatti is trolling Trump, hard.  Notice Trump never ever says a word about him. He blasted Kasich over his comments, continually harangues Sessions, but Avenatti, not a peep.

OMG that blouse Elise had on, file it under "How to Make a Blouse out of a circa 1950s Bedspread".

I think they're auditioning people to take over the show. They keep letting Heidi "host" segments, and Willie seems to be running things.

His comment about Stephanie Clifford? Fuck off you little weasel.  You worked on Tucker Carlson's show, you were right there when the Trump Daily ass kissing was going on. Your father must be SOOO proud of you.

I agree.  I mean the show has been messy for a long time but now it's an in your face we don't give a shit messy 2 1/2 hour slog.  I hope they clean it up, I would appreciate having a lively, interesting show in that important timeslot.

Heidi is just so, so good and really stands out (and shows up).

Every time I see Heidi I think of the actress on Orange Is The New Black  who plays the prison company VP who gets locked in there during the riots and has to pass.

This AM while listening to Joe do his daily soft shoe anti-Trump dance a thought occurred to me---I don't want to listen to this anymore. I don't want to go thru this for another 2 1/2 years (and then possibly 4 more). I just am so habituated to listening while I get ready for work, then in the car and then for a bit at my desk (using 3 different listening methods).  But it's all so FUTILE.  Months back I would have said "depressing" but now I say "futile."  No matter what he does he still stays in the low 40s in popularity, maybe high 30s.  No matter what he says or does.  Is it possible that CNN, MSNBC, the stations I follow ARE incredibly biased and he is doing good things that we aren't hearing about?

I'm just too lazy to develop a different AM routine.  I wish I could just retire...in Sarastoa with oakville.

I've given this a lot of thought lately and I agree with you w&c but I wonder if it's actual bias or just chasing ratings/clicks as none of at least the cable channels are doing yeomans work for a long time (it's just gotten worse with Trump).  They only cover the sexy/shiny object and depending on the outlet, it slants one way or another.  To be honest, I have been watching Dana Perino and Shep Smith to get some different news/perspective.  I wish CNN/MSNBC  could take a couple hours out of their day to cover stories that are not totally Trump centric (I know he impacts everything but I think you get what I mean).

No.  They do chase it's Tweets, but it's doing nothing good. What's happening is the major news networks report on its zipper being down while it's destroying the economy, the ecology, and international relationships.

Do you ever watch Rachel Maddow?  Her motto is "Cover what they do, not what they say". Sometimes what they say is so outrageous and affects the country etc so it gets covered, but not in the hyped way Morning Joe does.  She dives deep into historical references, backgrounds on our relationships with other countries etc. And man does she love reading court transcripts.

Just a suggestion it may not be what you're looking for, but it's definitely about 100 IQ points above JoMika.

Joe hasn’t been on set for over three weeks. That’s insane. Do they even mention Mika is away? Something’s off...

What would they do if the lovebirds ever broke up?  Would it even get mentioned?  Would Mika just never show up again?  Would MJ get cancelled?  And why has this even entered my mind? -  It's just that they seem the most oddly matched couple.  And he denigrates her on a daily basis .....oh wait, not 'daily' exactly, since she's never there 'daily'.  I don't understand her acceptance of that kind of treatment and I don't understand what he sees in her either.  She has no sense of humor, has absolutely no conception of popular culture, and the color of her hair hurts my eyes.  The height of his hair defies the law of gravity.  Oh yeah, they're a match made in heaven.

Anyway - about today.  Boring, dull, same old same old.  Maybe they should do a short news segment at the start of each hour so it could move the conversation in a few different directions.  Don't get me wrong, I love the DT bashing, but when that starts to get old for even me, that's a sign that it's time to mix it up.

Meek-a being absent for this amount of time is one of the reasons I've starting switching on and off to CNN, although I don't even like their morning show.  I figure if the supposed "stars" of MJ can't bother to show up, either in studio or from a bunker somewhere, then I'm not showing up either.
