All I can say is thank God Netflix has some new shows premiering in the next couple weeks, and I need to finish reading Big Little Lies.  I'm worn out.  UGGH

I think Scarborough fancies himself an old school Republican.   The only thing positive about an old school Republican is that he/she is not a modern-day Republican.   Perversely, I think, people now look fondly upon older Republicans, content to overlook their sins simply because they were part of a more sane era in this nation.  Scarborough is cashing in on that.   While I applaud his public abandonment of the Republican party, it smacks less of noble ideals and more of the boy who takes his bat and ball and goes home because he can't dictate how the game is played.

Well that explains why Peters was particularly dour and peevish today and sat at the table in a supersized sulk as they discussed the alt-admin's refusal to answer questions. Biding his time until he got his royal b*tchface going and reminded Sen. Whitehouse that HRC lost because she ran a bad campaign (god forbid we forget our fair and balanced coverage) and then repeated the old tyme talking point that Dems didn't have a message except that "45 is bad." Hey Jeremy, if there was no message, then where did I get all the information about what the Dems & HRC wanted to accomplish? 

Also, Sen Whitehouse is on Al Franken's new web series "Boiling the Frog", with David Letterman. It's on Funny or Die and is very funny, and topical.  Letterman has actually been doing more than growing a beard since he left tv.

Yeah but from your participation on this board I can surmise that you are engaged and interested in politics and current events. To the voters who didn't actively seeking out information or were not interested (or just despondent by the two disgusting candidates they had to choose from) her ads were overwhelmingly negative and substance-free (dumb kids, homely teenagers listening to Trump on TV e.g.). There was a study from Wesleyan this spring that completely backs up Peters' point.

It is really hard to watch Morning Joe on the West Coast -- starts at 3:00 AM, goes to 6:00 AM.  So I tend to hear a few minutes, then fall back asleep.  I missed the Bob Woodward segment, so glad to see the reports here -- normally, I would go find it online, but you saved me the trouble.  I did hear Joe say, "But, but, why were they *lying* about the meeting if it didn't mean anything?" And I've been saying that to the TV screen for the past couple of days -- it is so trite, but so true:  It's not the crime, it's the coverup.  Best would have been for them to inform the FBI immediately -- but even I, who loathe them, could believe that they just were completely naïve about running a campaign and the laws against interference by a hostile government.  But Jared knew better when he filled out his forms, and they all sure knew better when the festival of lies began from Jr. and all the clan on that plane that wrote the initial statement of untruths.

I live on the West Coast, and I set it to record. Whenever I wake up, usually around 4-4:30, I start watching from the beginning and fast forward through commercials or part of the show I am not interested in. Sometimes I fall back asleep while watching, and I will re-watch the parts I missed later in the day.

I'm clearly not committed enough to Morning Joe!  No time to watch once I am up, but I do enjoy what I catch.  And this thread is great for alerts to must-see segments online.  I do subscribe to the podcast, but it is only the first hour.

I'm still on the fence about this.  On some level, Joe believes he is being sincere but it smacks of opportunism to me.  This is what happens when you make yourself a part of the news instead of simply reporting and/or commenting on it.

Most evident this morning, when Scarborough and Mika basked in the afterglow of their reception at the Harvard Club Institute of Politics.   Nice for them, but every morning for the past 9 months I look at the news before I eat breakfast to see what terrible thing has happened today, or whether this is the day my healthcare gets taken away once and for all.   I'm not asking the show to pander to my unenviable situation, but jeez, half the country is in a state of panic or despair and the other half should be.   Stop talking about how great your life is.   I have zero patience for One-Percent bon vivant bullshit like the first five minutes of the show this morning.

I agree with you 100%. Mika & Joe get too caught up with their own image & lifestyle. They have been doing glamour shots of each other in cars, on the beach etc since before they left their spouses.

They loved being part of the Trump elect transition gossip with visits to Trump Tower. Mar A Largo & the White House for a private lunch where Trump offered to marry them at the White House or Mar a Largo. IMHO, that is a conflict of interest. I find it ridiculous that Mika & Joe did not disclose attending the lunch at the White House until several months later when they were angry at him. They are hypocrites for blaming Jared for not disclosing meetings when they don't do the same.

 

The show used to have in depth discussions on healthcare with Zeke Emmanuel & others. Why not discuss ways the government can do bulk buying of drugs to cut costs?

In a sense, Scarborough is Mark Antony, a strong supporter during Caesar's rise to emperor, who then uses Caesar's death to launch himself into a greater position of power.

Excellent analysis!. I do give credit to Joe for picking up on the Trump wave quickly. He was the first morning host to turn over his show to "Morning Trump". He was happy with the ratings success that Trump's appearances provided to him & Mika. He enabled Trump with soft interviews until he clinched the nomination. Joe went on the attack after Trump insulted Khan. Joe was apopletic about Trump when the Access Hollywood tape came out.  Joe became more positive about Trump just before the election. Joe was pro Trump till the travel ban was announced.

Joe betting on Trump's demise may pay off. However, what happens if Trump survives & gets re elected?  This show cannot be sustained with daily attacks on Trump. I did notice that they toned down the personal attacks on Trump in the last week. There is plenty of other things to criticize about the Trump administration.

That's what made the segment with Bernie Sanders so jarring yesterday, particularly when the talk turned to how seniors in nursing homes would be affected by this latest iteration of a "healthcare plan."  Don't get me wrong.  I don't begrudge Joe for being able to afford his mother's nursing home care; bless him for being able to do that.  But, there are so many less fortunate seniors, who will be affected by this tax cut masquerading as a healthcare plan.  There seemed to be a real disconnect there when discussing this issue with Senator Sanders.

I could only marvel again this morning at how much more pleasant this show can be when the two hosts are gone.  The roll-out of the breaking news that Uday neglected to mention that two additional people (WTF?!) attended that meeting was done with a great deal of gravitas and seriousness.  Imagine...no interruptions by a self-important bloviating tool and his simpering moll.  Just straight without the histrionics and pontificating that such a breaking story would have generated had Joe and Meek-a been present.  The panel was even able to discuss the implications of this latest revelation without someone talking over everyone else about his time in Congress.  I also enjoyed the discussion regarding today's Washington Post story about the challenges that Drumpf's lawyers continually face with a client who simply doesn't listen.  That the panel was able to make their observations about Drumpf without personal insults (letting his behavior speak for itself) was a real plus.

As for the announcement that Satan's Apprentice will be the Digital Czar, oh--good grief!  This is also the same little piece of shit who suggested that Comey be fired (for his own self-serving reasons obviously).  And, how did that shit work out for Team Titty Baby?  Not to mention the other disastrous decisions that weasel made, which his father-in-law followed.  I'm glad someone pointed out that this is because Drumpf has no governing philosophy.  That's why I had to laugh at the discussion about the luster falling off of the magazine-cover-ready Kushners as if they were some kind of golden couple.  Puh-leeze!  The bottom line for me has always been this because it bears repeating:  THEIR ASSES SHOULDN'T BE IN THE WHITE HOUSE TO BEGIN WITH!

Barnicle is a fabulist and plagiarist who just a few weeks ago got into trouble for tweeting out that Pete Frates - the young man with ALS who started the Ice Bucket Challenge - had died. (He hadn't, but it caused a lot of stress and drama for Pete's family, who couldn't contact his nurse for ten minutes.) What made matters worse is that the Frates family had never even met Barnicle.

Willie was great this morning.  I especially like how he carefully phrased (and yes I know he was told to, but Joe wouldn't have been careful) the breaking news that Uday's attorney claims there was another person on the room.  He didn't say there WAS a 6th person, he said that Uday's attorney claims there was.  Big difference. 
100% chance the Trump White House (what a disgusting phrase) will soon disseminate false leads for the media to pick up on and run, and when proven false will claim the media is biased.  So when Willie checks his language and speaks with clarity and caution, I love it.

Please do not give Barnicle his own show...he has the charisma of a turnip.  None of the regulars on this show (MJ) should have their own show; they are too tainted by "Bloviating Tool and his Simpering Moll" (by the way, whoever posted this above...best description ever).  I don't even think I could watch Willie with his own show; that is what Morning Joe has done to me.  Leave them all where they are.  With the possible exception of John Heileman..love his sometime smirk.  My least favorites are Harold Ford and Mark Halperin.  Halperin for the win.  I wish they would put Brian Williams on as a regular and give his 11 pm slot to someone else.  Maybe that is where they could put Willie...he would be hours enough way for MJ and has an easy demeanor that would go well at 11.

I had to get my ears adjusted to the fact that after every sentence there wasn't a loud female sigh, tsk tsk, or other declarative, like the panel has a greek chorus or back-up singer who chimes in after every comment. I looked up and saw a woman on the panel, but she was perfectly restrained, articulate, and offered cogent comments, without making weird noises.

There really isn't a red state, blue state divide.  It's a blue city/urban area, red rural/suburban area divide, with rich and poor and middle class in the mix in both camps.  New York, California, and Illinois are significantly red in the rural areas, as well as in suburban areas where rich Republicans live.  Georgia, Texas, Colorado and Iowa also have blue cities and urban areas, while being red in the rural and suburban areas. 

I wish they'd all stop talking about the "midwest" as though it covers everything except NY and California.

That's a great idea.  But, who would they have?  The only option would be an operative from a political party or a local politics writer.  DC politics is covered from DC and NYC, and only NYC because it's the seat of entertainment and publishing.  I guess Clarence Page from Chicago is a good guest.
But they never have McClatchy writers on, which is weird.  It's weird how as a news source it's 10x more subterranean than al Jazeera.

Me too, Teddy's mom. Also in Indianapolis. People talk about the Russia story. People keep up here no differently than in NYC. All the news is available here at virtually the same instant and with virtually equal ease as in NYC and DC. Please.

Monday Recap. Hour 1. Joe is in the bunker recovering from a windstorm. His hair is lighter & messier than usual. Joe took his yacht from Nantucket to New Canaan. Mika is reporting from an undisclosed studio. She was wearing a black negligee with a robe or cardigan above it. Elise Jordan is wearing a black sleeveless dress. She is in the NY Studio. Ignatius is in Washington. Jeremy Peters & Joe's hair side by side was mesmerizing. Peters hair was gelled.

Robert Costa was in a library. I couldn't tell where the library was.

Joe was gleeful about discussing Trump's falling polling numbers.

Joe said that cutting medicaid funding was unpopular. Joe met with an important hospital consultant over the weekend. The consultant agreed with Joe that the funding cuts would hurt rural hospitals.

Joe said he would never accept Russian oppo research . Joe said Trump JR was wrong to meet with Russians.

Mika said the meeting with Jr was metastasizing. There may have been 8 people in the meeting.

Nick "normal hair "Confessore said the top priority was getting rid of Obamacare since the GOP campaigned on that for 7 years.

Joe bragged that Dryer told him that it was easier to justify a no vote in Congress.

Peters said that  only  20 Senators would vote to repeal Obamacare without a replacement.

Joe bragged that Obamacare now has 50% support vs 24% that support the GOP plan.

Joe's hair shifted by 6 30 am. The hair in the middle grew 2 inches. There was a new loop of hair on the left side. It looks like someone took a hair roller out during the break & forgot to comb it down.

Joe wrote an an opinion piece for the Washington Post. Mika pretended to be shocked that it was from Joe!. Joe wants the GOP to break up & allow independent thinkers ( like Joe!) to be elected to break up the duopoly.

Joe's article mentioned the unfunded Medicare Drug Plan passed by the GOP during W's administration. It is not funded by a tax & allows Seniors access to drugs that keeps them alive & out of hospitals.
