crowswork May 26, 2015 Share May 26, 2015 I think it's about how it's easier to just say "The world is crap and there's no point in even trying." The whole creepy reality, survival, angry, and yes climate change is one of the things people point to as why things are hopeless. I see it now - young people prefer Mad Max to Star Trek. Some people seem to be looking forward to the apocalypse. Imagine all the things invented by folks who were young during the sixties and became engineers and scientists and tried to make ST reality. Now picture all the wonderful things invented by fans of the walking dead (Which I like) or any number of "it was after the apocalypse" movies, serial killer torture porn and fantasy 'long long ago' stuff. Some good movies and shows but not exactly inspirational for kids. Hey there's always video games "When I grow up I want to drive real fast and blow away hookers" 3 Link to comment

Hey there's always video games "When I grow up I want to drive real fast and blow away hookers" Well, I don't know if I'd go all that far with it, provided that you're not just being facetious. There are still, from what I can tell, plenty of movies that are About Something, or at least try to be About Something. Hell, even some of the superhero movies tend to get heavily peppered with angst these days. Movies like San Andreas and Lucy are big bucketfuls of delightful insanity, and if they're the Meat Loaf to everyone else's Wagner, then that's all the more reason for me to embrace them. 2 Link to comment

Says the forty-five year old, so you can have some salt to go with that opinion. :-) 1 Link to comment

Can't wait until they are off. I think networks should be smarter about ad placement and factor in genre. If I'm watching something happy & fluffy on your network, don't show me something scary and/or gory just because it's after 8pm. 1 Link to comment
ParadoxLost June 2, 2015 Share June 2, 2015 They keep playing this Entourage promo that they cut together from the actual promo and a behind the scenes interview where Mark Wahlberg explains the genesis of the show. I guess they have little faith in the draw of the movie and need the 'star' power of Wahlberg; but wow, that promo makes Mark Wahlberg look like a giant egomaniac. 3 Link to comment
Lola16 June 3, 2015 Share June 3, 2015 Director Cameron Crowe apologizes for casting Emma as the 1/4 Asian 1/4 Hawaiian lead. “I am grateful for the dialogue,” the director continued. “And from the many voices, loud and small, I have learned something very inspiring. So many of us are hungry for stories with more racial diversity, more truth in representation, and I am anxious to help tell those stories in the future.” http://time.com/3906866/cameron-crowe-emma-stone-aloha/ Baby steps... 2 Link to comment

Prairie Fire June 5, 2015 Share June 5, 2015 Just a general question about this topic (not a specific movie or TV ad): Does anyone else here who's watching the NBA finals feel like the commercial breaks are like being in a theater watching previews? It seems like the amount of commercial time dedicated to movie trailers is at an all-time high. I realize the target audience for the NBA playoffs (young males) is exactly the same as the audience for blockbuster summer movies, but this is crazy. (This is starting to spill over into the NHL playoffs, though not quite as much....) Link to comment

ParadoxLost July 23, 2015 Share July 23, 2015 What the hell is 'The Visit' supposed to be.. Its got background music like its a horror movie but the trailer is literally a scene of an old woman in her nice kitchen telling a teenager she really needs the oven really clean and convinces the teenager to climb all the way inside. A normal range oven and she does. I wish I could find it on youtube but it looks its a special cut for airing during Sharknado. Has Shyamalan added the weird scene like with Wahlberg talking to plants to all his movies just like every movie has the 'shocking twist' ending? Link to comment

Okay, so I saw a longer version of that ad tonight, and it really appears to be a horror movie. But then I saw the version you're talking about (unless there's an additional one). djc101790 August 19, 2015 Share August 19, 2015 Who else remembers that very over dramatic Friends season 8 promo? I do because NBC literally ran that promo for what felt like an eternity leading up to the season 8 finale where Rachel who was pregnant for what also felt like an eternity finally has her baby. In the promo they had the “In A World” guy hyping the upcoming episodes, the promo also had specifically selected clips and sound bites from those episodes such as Marlo Thomas saying “My Little Girl” as she hugs Rachel or the drippy dialogue from Ross to Rachel about future parenthood, but the topper of this promo is that during the it Enya’s "Only Time" is screeching through enitre thing. This Friends promo is so over the top that Its actually amazing despite at the time it was airing on TV it made me go crazy. Link to comment
mojoween August 20, 2015 Share August 20, 2015 They are airing commercials for "Fear the Walking Dead" on TBS and it makes me sad. Not because of the show, even though I don't plan to watch it and I don't watch its companion (my husband and kid LOVE it, I however, am SUPER queasy). No, it's because the announcer guy's voice just makes me think of "Mad Men" and yeah, I still miss that show. I'm going to miss it for a long time. AMC needs to get a new promo VO guy! xaxat August 20, 2015 Share August 20, 2015 (edited) Johnny Depp's face falls into uncanny valley for me in this trailer. He doesn't have enough real life wrinkles (especially on the forehead) to go along with all of the makeup they used to age him. LoneHaranguer August 21, 2015 Share August 21, 2015 I saw an ad for the new Supergirl series that spent most of its time seemingly justifying why it's okay to call the character "Supergirl". If that was an actual scene from the series, I don't watch superhero shows to see political commentary. If not, are there really that many people who would care as long as the character is properly written? Use the ad time to tell people about the show. 1 Link to comment
