Jessica and Brian have ended their partnership. Lu/Mitrofanov have split, he’s skating with someone else. Chelsea & Danny also. If Ashley & Timothy and Alexa & Brandon retire we are left with Spencer and Emily. And we have three spots at Worlds next year….

And Brian has announced his retirement. I wonder if Jessica will look for a partner. Is Danny O'Shea still available?

I'm sad to see her go. That being said, she should be so proud of everything that she's accomplished. I was hoping that she'd have another couple of seasons in her but I totally understand her wanting to move on from the sport. There's more to life than skating and I'm glad that she's excited about her next chapter. Considering how she was rumored for awhile now to not have been as happy to skate as she once was it seems like it's a good time for her to wrap things up.

I also hope that she's been able to inspire some kids to get into skating. We need some new blood. Fingers crossed for Isabeau and Lindsay to keep improving. I hope Hanna and Amber stay in the mix too. Hanna's had some disastrous competitions but she can be so good! I want her to have that amazing performance at nationals next year.

Alysa's story is one of many reasons why I don't think 18 should be the age limit for international competition. Raising the age to 16 (instead of turning 16 by a certain date in the calendar year) is a reasonable compromise. Not everyone wants to skate until they're deep into their 20s. If people like Alysa want to reach their goals at an earlier age and then go to college or whatever else they should be allowed to do that.

This is quite young to retire from skating. But others before her have done so after reaching their dreams. Moreover, it’s nice to see a ladies teen retire on her own terms for a change rather than been forced out due to injury or becoming obsolete to the club/country for whom they skate.

I wish her great happiness and success with her future endeavors.

So, gold medals in three of the four disciplines at Junior Worlds for the U.S. Isabeau came in second in the free, but held on to her lead. The Browns won the ice dance gold.  Bronze in Junior Women for Lindsay Thorngren.

The top six in the Junior ladies were all US and South Korea. Surprising that Japan came in 8th and 10th.

Japan's junior women have been struggling all quadrennial. The hopes are all on Mao Shimada to turn things around when she becomes age-eligible next year.

Seeing Levito skate after Shin, the other Korean girls, and Thorngren just highlighted how bad her jump technique is. She shouldn't have won, on that basis alone.

I still recall being dazzled by the Browns' JGP debut back in 2018, with that awesome blues free program that ended up having to get changed because it didn't have a change of rhythm and was never as good again. They've had an up-and-down quad (including their original coach turning out to be a sex offender), so I was happy for them to get a big win here.  And very glad for the Canadian teams, especially Nadiia, who is from Ukraine originally and had to junk their original free dance for this season because it was a musical homage to the Russian Army, something that she obviously lost all taste for in recent weeks.

Too bad that Wesley couldn't hold his podium position after the short program, but he should take this as valuable experience for the home Junior Worlds next season.

Here’s Mischa Mitrafanov and his new partner Hazel Collier at a show. I’ll reserve judgement until I see a real program but at she can land a triple jump so that alone could put them in the mix in the US.

I, too, really loved the Browns. I’m bummed for Katarina & Jeff and the twizzle fall, I would’ve liked to see how those two teams would’ve fared head to head.

Speaking of ice dance, they made a bunch of changes for next year, adding a “choreographic assisted jump” and they nixing the pattern step.

Hmmm...sounds like ice dance is getting closer to pairs, in a cautious way. They already borrowed the pairs spin (& look better doing it than the pairs teams, IMO). Now they want to get into jumps. I thought TPTB were planning the jumps to be like what Charlie White loved to do...just an exuberant jump all by himself. But an "assisted jump" doesn't sound like this.

Dance seems to change the elements every year. I was confused by all the slides on the ice everyone did last year until I read that  "choreographed slides" were added as an element.  Also, my reading of the changes is that the Seniors will still do a pattern, just that they get to choose which pattern they will do within the required Rhythm (which is Latin). If I'm right, that kind of defeats the purpose of the pattern, which was having everybody doing the same moves so they could be judged on who did them best (like figures). Very confusing! I'm convinced that only 10 people in the world understands the scoring in Dance.

Unfortunately this could all be moot if a Russian is elected President of the ISU in June. If the war is still going on at that time, I'd hope members of the ISU would think better of electing a Russian sympathizer as president, but you never know how things will go in these types of situations.

It's very cool that they are having Skate America in the NorthEast where it is not Boston.  Does anyone know when the assignments come out?

I'm still so sad about the american pairs roulette that continues to twirl from one partner to another.

It seems like Tallinn is a favored skating site these days. It could probably take over the Cup of Russia.

(There's a dark joke about Russia taking over Tallinn here, but I can't find it).  :(

I was watching some SOI videos & wondered who's wearing the big white feathers during an Elton John medley group skate? Also, are all the skaters who competed this season skating their competitive programs, or is it just Nathan?

Jason is skating Sinnerman, and I believe Vincent skates his Vincent program.

It's Evan!  Most of the skaters are doing one program and their gala program.  In the 2nd half Nate is the final skater (doing Rocketman) then the finale is an Elton John medley.

I don't know whether to cheer or express concern. Isn't the quad Axel the toughest on a skater's body? Nathan doesn't do it & he's got hip issues. I wonder what orthopedic specialists think of this jump.

Triples took out Tara at a very young age. I'd say that all the advanced jumps are going to eventually cause damage unless one retires early.

And now that Fanyus are upset because only Yuzuru Hanyu should be able to land the 4A.

You know, I'm sure he's a very nice guy. Seems to be. But the obsession with him drives me batty. I follow the topic of "figure skating" on Twitter and instead of seeing tweets involving all of skating, it's just tweets of fucking obsessed Fanyu's. It makes me wish he'd just retire.
