The show lost its focus when they made Sami, the lead heroine of the show. Sami should have remained an anti-heroine getting into trouble with Lucas by her side. The show should have brought back Carrie, Stefanie, Chelsea, Belle, Jeannie, Sarah Horton and use them to drive stories as an ensemble show. Theresa in her current form is horrible. I refuse to believe that Shane and Kim raised their only daughter to be that way..If Theresa was Emma's daughter with Shane, I could have understood her characterization much better.

Sami was never the heroine of the show.  Sami went from being the scheming bad girl to the woman who was having her life ruined every six months by EJ or Stefano, but was still considered to be in the wrong because she fought back.  Sami, Kate, and Nicole were more interesting and entertaining as the Salem Witches than they were as the Dimera doormats.

That is true..Sami became the lead character, when it should have been another character, preferably Carrie who was always a decent person. Stefanie and Jeannie could have been like their moms, strong heroines who were not weak or hypocritical..I loved the relationship between Chelsea and Stefanie. Jeannie could  have added another dimension to their bond..We need the new generations of Bradys, Kiriakis, Hortons, Dimeras and new families to drive stories....Andrew, Philip and Sonny's brothers need to be on canvas..

I don't understand why people keep saying Sami was one of the heroines of the show. A heroine is a woman who displays courage or self sacrifice - heroism - for some greater good. When has this ever applied to Sami? When has anyone in Salem ever treated her like a hero? Sure, she's done good things before, but I would never call her a hero. At best, she's an antihero sometimes.

Sami got focus like she was a heroine..She got billing like Kayla and Kim got in the day when they were lead characters driving stories...The show became the Sami and EJ show to the point that Ken Corday feels that the show cannot survive without her. So he has mandated that Will and Theresa become like her...Will is now a lying. manipulative, heartless schemer and Theresa is a hateful schemer using her son to snare a man that does not love her...

I have no problem with AS/Sami being a lead character on the show.  Sami made things happen.  Jennifer and Daniel got more air time than Sami did.  Soaps are ensembles.  They are made up of good guys, bad guys, those in between, and at one time villains who showed up for their story arc and then were written out.

 

The problem with Days is the writing, and the fact that they keep either losing their younger generations or writing them out while focusing way to much on certain characters (Dirty Dan), and giving other characters a free pass on everything they do so the show is boring because the outcome is already known.

 

Niether Theresa or Will are like Sami.  Ken Corday and the writers constantly having people say that doesn't make it so, and that is another problem with Days.  What is shown on screen does not resemble what Ken Corday and the writers believe is happening.

I hope  the new writers fix the characterizations on the show. It needs to be more character-driven and respect the history of the show.They need to develop the younger generation...We don't need Belle to be like Marlena or Will to be like Sami..The characters need to be developed properly in their own right and have agency...Marlena and Belle have not had the same experiences in life, so I don't expect them to be the same. The same goes for Will and Sami..A character can act out of character, but it has make sense and be explained fully, otherwise you turn off the viewers....Will is not acting like himself, he was always shady and impulsive. I did not expect Lumi's son to be a saint Like Tom Horton. He  is trigger happy like his parent, both Lucas and Sami have killed people in defense of others. However, I did not expect him to be a douchebag...

I always did think that Sami was more attractive than Carrie, 

 

So much this. As a kid I remember just lusting after Sami's hair. It was so so thick and luxurious. I look at AS's hair today and I wonder if it has been damaged due to coloring or maybe just the case of hair thinning with age because it is not what it used to be. It would pain me to see Sami compared to Miss Piggy. Not for nothing but Christie Mary Clark had the more snout like nose to me. 

 

Coincidentally recently was watching Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2 (don't judge me) and who should be playing the younger sister Christie Mary Clark. She was a really cute kid.

 

The actor is good but I don't find Chad remotely attractive. He ain't ugly or anything but he just leaves me completely cold. It has nothing to do with Abigail either.

 

I see Brady and I always think he looks like a Chippendale dancer who would do porn on the side.

 

I would miss Kate Mansi if she were to be fired, re-cast or leave (who are we kidding). Not that I like the character or the actress but boy is she fun to snark on. 

 

I never cared for Thaoo or his acting style. I look at him and also think that men of a certain age should not have deep jet black hair with no sign of gray. I'm hoping he isn't as aggressive with the Grecian formula and tanning this go around.

 

I can't fucking believe that I am looking forward to Dena Higley's return. I was the one leading the chorus of Ding Dong the witch is dead when she was fired. How bad is the show if she is looked upon as a possible savior?

Along with all the OOC things the writers have had the characters doing, they also refuse to let them mature.  Instead of dredging up the old Sami/Carrie rivalry in 2011, they should have had Sami and Carrie working together to help John.  Both Sami and Carrie believed John was innocent originally.  Sami should have gotten Carrie involved in some of her crazy scheming to clear John's name.  It would have been better than the same old same old.

 Although I don't understand why Abigail doesn't just break up with Ben her affair with Chad is much better written story than Will's cheating storyline.

   Tired of hearing Daniel say "I am done!" he needs a new line.

   Will miss Serena (more the actress than the character).

    Use to want Brady and Teresa back together.  Now I want Teresa in a new storyline.

    Don't want Daniel (who I don't even dislike) to save Nicole.  Want Nicole to save herself.

Most sites are anti-Will and Pro-Sonny..Some Will lovers have expressed how Will is being crucified to make Sparkle perfect and wonderful. I  agree with that assessment...I grew up watching Will from his conception to becoming an adult. To see a legacy character be destroyed in such a  horrible manner is unconscionable.. This site is the only site that hates John, Jarlena, Abigail and Chabby...People love Chad and Abigail on other sites.. However,I notice that the Daniel hate is universal and Jennifer is hated because of her turning her back on Jack to be with Daniel....

My unpopular opinion is that I wish the show would retcon Johnny's paternity and make him Lucas. There is something unseemly about a Dimera progeny being named after John and Roman, given all that Stefano has done to those two men for decades. Johnny's full name is John Roman Dimera. Sydney can remain a Dimera, but Johnny should be for Lucas.

Never will like Eric again.  He looks down his nose at his sister while he takes the side of the side piece and Nicole.  He sided with side piece over Sami while forgiving Nicole who sold him out for five million dollars.

Since Eric has so much love for a side piece why is it he does not go after her?

Sidney is definitely EJ and Sami's child.  Nicole stole her for a year so her not having a child now is karma.

Ali being tall does make her look to be EJ's child rather than Johnny.

I did not find everyone giggling over Ciara's love of control and wanting to be a catcher just to call people out in any way cute.  Nor demanding for three scenes that an adult answer her question.  I put her on mute.  I'm still pissed at Ciara for lying to Sami about the earring and Hope backing her up to the point Sami wanted to slap her.  Then swindling Sami for what $5K in earrings?  She has potential and the kid is a great little actress but I can't condone any of this.  Hope, I hope you pay for this.  Big time. At least with Aiden gone she's not obsessing about her mother's love life.

I am a lumi fan that actually liked EJami at first..EJ loved Sami's darkness and reveled in it, whereas Lucas was scared by it and wanted to tame it or extinguish it all together...I loved it when EJ told Sami that he liked her just the way that she was and that she should not allow others to dictate who she should be....They had to ruin it by turning him into a rapist...

For whatever reason, Kate and Sami toss a body in the river.

EJ, "Do you really want to know?  Do I have to remind you that Samantha and Katerina have a better track record than any of your hitmen?"

That's why I enjoyed EJ and Nicole together, they filled that bad couple role remembering when Nicole was happy to be the wife of sleazy politician EJ.  It all fell apart, of course, when Nicky lost the baby and EJ made it clear he wanted Sami.  But they were in sync for a while. JS was right about what he wanted for EJami.

I'm going to miss Aiden mostly for what could have been.  The buildup was too slow but I enjoyed them because it had been too long since Hope had a storyline of her own, and because Aiden was an actual non-pervy adult male.  The scarcity of that particular item in Salem is glaring.  Plus, Daniel Cosgrove is a good actor, and as usual, his talent was wasted.

He'd have done better as a day player, probably.

And a pathetically shallow UO: I honestly don't find either Will or Abigail attractive AT ALL...and I swear that I'm not especially picky about these things! 

 

Chad has potential to be among my favorite 3-4 characters on the entire show (if only by sad default!), but the mere fact that he's so taken with Abigail lowers his stock with me tremendously. I know that's not fair, but seriously, I almost want to fast forward through his scenes until he's over her for good. And one day he will be...right?!

 

I still don't hate Paige. I TOTALLY get why others do, but I just don't...I think I just have a soft spot for her 'type' of character (studious introvert, serious, academically smart but socially clueless, etc) and keep hoping they'll write her in a way that allows me to root for her as much as I want to. 

 

I kind of miss Sami. I get why many were sick of her and glad to see her go, but even as a sporadic and casual viewer I can't help but miss Sami/Alison Sweeny's presence.  And Sami at least DID things---yes, they were things that drove many of us nuts, but it feels like now we'e stuck with far too many characters who who just sit around having the same exact conversations with each other day after day without ever actually doing anything at all.  

 

...even more unpopularly and shamefully, part of me misses EJ as well. (And, no, I wasn't a Sami/EJ shipper!) He just added a certain energy for me---a smarmy and sleazy energy, yes, but at least it was SOMETHING! So many of these characters and therefore the overall show are just so flat IMO.

 

Jen, who I very happily detested for a long time, isn't even among my seven or eight least favorite characters anymore. Granted, that's more about hating others more than it is about Jen actually improving much as a character, but it still seemed unpopular enough to mention here :)  

 

Kassie DePavia's Blair was one of the things that hooked me on One Life to Live (while it was still on ABC---I hated the resurrected version, but that's an unpopular opinion for another thread!), but I still just can't get into her in this current role. I'm still holding out hope, though! 

 

I know I've said this elsewhere, but I'm crossing my fingers for a major murder mystery storyline...preferably one that wipes out a solid 80-85% of the current canvas :)

Splashing in the shallow end with you!  I think they're both fugly, and it's not something I'm picky about either.  

 

I also miss AS and JS, and also not necessarily as a couple.  I preferred him with Nicole and her with Lucas.

Technically, Theo is older than J.J.  Theo was born in either late May or early June of 2003.  J.J. was born in either the late summer or early fall of 2004.

Bad girl/good girl?  I love seeing generations but NeoTheo at 25?  So what does Bo say?  I understand they toned down the teen scene this year for the vet return but...but...confusion

I think Aidan should've been with Nicole. Her dating a single father with a dark past could've been interesting and I think she and Aidan could've had some heat.

As sick as Nick was, I never hated him. Mostly felt sorry for him.

Not sure if it's unpopular but in the aftermath of EJ's death, there were some scenes with Chad and Sami that made me think them falling into a grief fueled affair would be interesting.

I love loving to hate cheating scheming Will.
