Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

Maybe we should submit a question to that Marriage Bed website and ask their opinion on cock rings. I learned about a whole lot of weirdness on that site that I never would've dreamed of.

I'm sure they would say that cock rings are perfectly fine as long as they don't lead to dancing..

Already asked and answered.

You're welcome?

Sorry?

Great ,now I wont be able to sleep because all I can see are dancing cock rings and bananas masquerading as penises. And I'm laughing too hard. And I'm afraid to click on NewDig's link because I'm ascared.

I did...I couldn't help myself...perhaps I'm just morbidly curious....it was defrauding...off to the prayer closet...I mean war room

Even in her frump-wear...she does seem to have a nice smile when she's actually free to enjoy herself away from the disapproving glance of her headship.

One of my best friends grew up as the son of an Independent Baptist minister and told me he can tell when his dad isn't home when he calls...because his mom becomes a completely different bubbly happy person when the patriarch isn't about. We talked about how sad that had to be for his mom.

The girl in "I Fired God" said the same thing, if I'm remembering right. Her mom was so much more relaxed and happy when her husband wasn't around. It's so sad.

Eh, secular Bridezillas do lots of funny fetishistic wedding things that no one gives a damn about as well, so I'm not overtly exercised by the covenant marriage concept.  Except to say that as I understand it it does seem like "doth protest too much" hysteria, and that I don't think they're much different (hell, maybe "no" different) than ordinary non-speshul wedding vows.

What I really dislike about covenant marriages is that they're part of a belief system that states that our country went downhill when feminism reared its head and no fault divorce entered the picture. They would love nothing better than reforming our divorce laws so that they were once more almost impossible to get. They don't care a bit that until recently, those laws held women captive for life in horrendous, abusive marriages.

I peeked at the site a little. They wear head coverings to show their submission to their father, UGH.

What it is with Fundies and flying? Does it represent freedom? Also it seems Fundy families play musical instruments, while I think it is awesome, I was wondering if there is some biblical reasoning behind it. And guns; Fundy or regional?

I got totally sucked into her blog and then it was quite startling to come back here and see you all discussing cock rings! LOL!

I had to do it...I checked out seven sisters and I can't help but like them. Far more entertaining and like able than the Duggars. They seem a lot healthier than the Duggars both mentally and emotionally and they seem better home schooled by their writing. These girls have access to goats milk and fresh eggs, meat, and veg...and there's 9 kids instead of 19.

Poor girls better be careful about the foot community blogging about their tootsies. Sad that the stalkers on Wikifeet might not have enough class to just let this one just be. Hopefully, they have enough scruples to leave minors alone.

These girls have a sweetness about them that you don't see with the Duggar girls...I imagine they didn't have to raise each other or the littles. I can see why Jessa and Jill are glad they escaped....even though Boob still calls the shots.

OK, I'm afraid to look it up, not after I googled 'Jacob's Ladder' after hearing it mentioned one time in regards to the male appendage.  I was all "Yikes!"  "Ouch!", and "This is a joke, right?  Who would want to do this to themselves?"

So now I have to admit I don't know what a cock ring is.  Do men really 'put a ring on it'?  When?  If they wear a ring when they're flaccid, would that interfere with urination?  And wouldn't a spontaneous erection be really painful, and possibly a health issue?  If they put it on in preparation for sex, how do they get the ring sized?  Does my local jewler really have a private room in the back with visual aids so they can get the circumference right?  I assume the ring is a plain flat one, no jewels or such, although maybe an inscription is OK?  And what woman would want that thing rubbing up inside them, over and over again?  How is any of that sexy?

Okay, I know more than a little about cock rings.  I used to be a safer sex educator, so I have heard most everything.  I also used to frequent sex parties handing out supplies.

Cock rings come in a variety of materials from metal to rubber to leather.  The metal and rubber ones come in multiple sizes.  The leather ones have snaps which makes them adjustable to different sizes.  The purpose is to  create a firmer erection.  The ring makes it more difficult for fluids to drain from the penis.  So  while they don't make it easier to get it up, they do make it easier to keep it up.  When worn properly, the man's genitals are put through the ring, not just the penis.  To be effective, the ring needs to be snug when the man is erect.  The non-metal ones are safer because in an emergency (a.k.a. if you have an erection that lasts more than 4 hours) you can cut them off (or release the snaps).

As a fetish item, I doubt fundies would support the use of cock rings.  However, as an aid for men with ED or premature ejaculation, I can see fundies supporting their use.  After all, as we've seen, they let god determine  how many children they have until they have a problem conceiving.  Then science is their friend.  I sense many of the mega families have had some interference in "god's plan", whether it be tracking fertility to fertility drugs.

Yeah, that's a bit squicky.   I do wonder if any of them will get married, I have no idea how old the eldest is but she looks like she could be pushing 30.  I'm sure there's a novel or some kind of cultural knowledge that is lingering in the back of my mind about sisters who are so close that they don't want to particularly get married because they're such a close family unit.  I keep thinking it might be Austen or something Regency-ish but who am I kidding, it's probably Sweet Valley High or something.

It was in the comment section. A young commenter felt that she might want to wear a head covering too. The response to the post was that she might want to ask her dad if he agreed because wearing one is to show submission to ones father. The young girl responded back that her dad did not feel that she needed to wear one.

ETA the posts:

"This is a real good way for us all to know you individually! How creative :-)

By the way I have been considering head coveings for myself recently. I was just wondering if you could tell me any Biblical reasons to wear one, I have been asking around alot recently so I can come to a conclusion, but it hasn’t inspired me so far to do so, especailly as it might cause my brothers and sisters in Christ (at the church I go to) to stumble as they don’t wear them. I have thought of wearing a descreet one though like a fashion statement : bandanna or a wide band. What is a your opininon?

God Bless,

Chloe~Jane x"

"I can try! My advice would be to study what it is about, first. You can find where it talks about it in the Bible in 1 Corinthians 11. Also, I would encourage you to talk it over with your parents…especially since it is a symbol of being under your father’s authority. You wouldn’t want to wear it as a symbol of being submissive when your dad doesn’t like you to wear it Make sense? As far as wearing a bandana or wide band instead, that is pretty much up to what you and your parents think is best :)

Hope this helps! If you have any other questions, we’d be happy to help if we can! May God bless you richly as you follow after Him!

Jessica"

"Thank~you dearly, Jessica! That really makes sense. My Dad says I probably shouldn’t because of the Church we go to…and I have long hair. So at this time I should respect that until (God willing) I have a husband who wants me to wear one Thanks again.

Thanks!  Disturbing that Jessica thinks that headcoverings are "a symbol of being under your father's authority".  Although I suppose it's slightly encouraging that she encourages the girl to discuss it with her parents?  Families such as the Maxwells don't discuss, they obey.  I wonder what the 7sisters parents are like, surely they must be proud of all the their daughters are achieving if they're encouraging them to blog about solo flights, Haiti mission work, etc.etc.

In Islam the head covering is to show modesty and humility in the presence of God...the same in Judaism. It says somewhere in the Buble, and I'm thinking OT about it being immodest to pray with one's head uncovered...the Amish do it for the same reasons....so I'm wondering if covering the head/hair to show obedience to their father is a Fundy rewind to make something stand out from its previous concept to show they are more ideologically pure.

I'd expect that from the Duggars but these young ladies seem to be more sincere.

All this submission talk - is it really that necessary? It's exhausting. Why do they constantly have to create some hierarchy and rules/laws to keep everyone in line. I would love to hear Christ himself say what he thought of all those submit and obey directives that came about AFTER the His Ascension.

Yes, one of the reasons I like them more than the other fundie families is that they seem more sincere and thoughtful in their convictions [That I hasten to add I dont necessarily agree with].

LOL at Michael Buble and his headcovering expertise!

I seem to recall Jo in Little Women saying something along those lines.

The thing about praying with your head uncovered being immodest is actually NT. It was that I Corinthians passage the girl referenced in the comments of her blog. As far as it being a sign of submission to your father, that does seem to be a fundy thing, more specifically the type that subscribe to Quiverfull values. I grew up in a fundy church where some of the women wore head coverings, but only during the service

I believe in Sweet Valley High Jessica Wakefield got married the first time she moved out of her parents house. We, not that I read those "novels" or anything. Although the Duggar kids could learn a lot from Jessica Wakefield if you overlook her psychopathic tendencies.

Wow, Bin must be depressed as hell. His younger sister has a job and lives independently while he's stuck cleaning his father in law's toilets.

Looking at the background of the photo, I was thinking maybe it's a law office, but Jessica is dressed rather informally, so who knows.

That cowboy hat pic was huge during his presidency, I guess to boost his "rugged male" persona. My MIL has one; I found it tucked in a shirt drawer when I was packing clothes for her stay in rehab after breaking her hip. I died laughing.

She has no qualifications to work at a law firm. Maybe it's some fundie-run store with memorabilia on the walls?

Those framed pics with little plaques look liek the ones that are sold in mass merchandise Christian stores - not really the ones that sell church supplies, but more like the ones that sell Thomas Kinkade paintings and mugs with flowery verses and cartoons on them. Kirk Cameron movies. A Bread Crumb and Fish shirts, etc.

I know we constantly compare the Duggars vs the Bates. I really, really wish that the Bates weren't involved with Gothard cuz I like watching & comparing the two families. On last night's episode, Kelly sat down with the older girls to discuss with them about redecorating their room. Kelly gave her opinion of what paint colors she liked but left it up to the girls to finally decide. I don't think Kelly ultimately liked their gray paint decision, but said it was their room. Gil was being the typical dad -just there to hang the decorations & being thankful he didn't have to do the painting. Plus the girls were acting like typical sisters in their joking & squabling. You know if this was the Duggars, we would have seen Boob taking over the whole project including choosing the paint color & decorations. I actually see Boob telling the girls they would have to use leftover paint he had & not letting them pick out new paint. Then we would have to hear what great painters the Duggars are cuz, well, they are THE Duggars. There was also a segment of Kelly & the girls trying out a new chicken recipe. Again they looked like they were having so much fun, something we would never see between MEchelle & her girls.

eta: We DID see how Boob reacted when the girls redecorated last year. They brought in MEchelle's "friend,' Candy, but he still stood there, lording himself over the proceedings. FWIW, they also went gray, but a few shades lighter than what the Bates girls ended up with (I'd call it dove gray).

Thank you, Sew, for sharing with us the pics of the Rodrigui with Anna Duggar's family, specifically Anna Duggar's brothers and Anna Duggar's parents. I liked the one of the older Anna Duggar's siblings playing a fun game together. It looks like they had a super fun day with people related to Anna Duggar. It's good to see Ma and Pa Keller (Anna Duggar's parents) looking well. Anna Duggar.

OMG..the captions on those pics. "We are so sad Dale Earnhardt died...We hope he died knowing Christ as his Lord and Saviour. " Gag.

The fact that fundies go the beach and expect everyone else to cover up so as not to make the preshus Fundy snowflakes feel defrauded is nothing short of arrogant. The world doesnt revolve around THEM and their phoney cult. You know what I find offensive, Jill? Your tacky hair and makeup and the fact that you're really putting on the lbs while your kids look emaciated and malnourished.

I'm surprised that Jill R. hasn't moved her family to Tontitown so she could be in the Duggar's orbit. Instead, Sierra beat her out for the official Duggar hanger-on.

I can totally see Jill R. pulling a Showgirls and shoving Sierra down a flight of stairs so she can take over planning the next wedding.

That poor Rod boy, trying to buddy up with the Keller sons in the group pics. It must be horrible for him, with no brothers near him in age and obviously no friends.

Judging by the pictures in this link, Michelle gave Mrs Anna's Mother Keller a shirt for Christmas. All I could think when I saw her and Anna's father is that they actively want Anna to be unhappy by staying with Josh (and marrying the child molester in the first place).

I watched the recent Bates show today and I noticed how immaculate Whitney and Zach's house was.  Very neat, no clutter, and nicely if inexpensiely decorated.  Quite the contrast to the homes of the Duggar young adults.  And I bet Whitney can put a decent meal on the table as well.

Whitney has to try extra hard, bc she married into fundie royalty, plus Zach doesn't have years of a cushy TLC income, so she better keep that breadwinner happy so he can keep winning that bread. The Duggar girls are already there, so they don't have to make any effort to obey the rules. Now Derrick and Bin may have to overcompensate with the rules, but none of them have lifted a finger to do any sort of work in a long time.

Link to comment

I'm sure Zach and Whitney are being compensated for their appearances on the show. That brand new leather couch set isn't really realistic on a rookie cop's salary, especially one who JUST STARTED. They aren't living as large as the Duggars, but for instance, next week's show seems to be focused on Bradley's first birthday, so they will be prominently focused.

Unlike the Duggars, I bet Gil permitted UP to cut separate checks to the married Bateses as their prominence in an episode dictates. Lawson probably gets his own check as well. I think a big part of them greenlighting the show was to put him front and center in hopes of launching his music career.

I watched a recent episode featuring Whitney & Zach buying a couch. It kind of pissed me off though. I don't notice commercials but when they were buying their couch from Rent A Center, I thought it was a bit odd, so I rewound the show a bit. Sure enough there was a commercial for Rent A Center.

I realize these shows offer the families perks and such, but that was the first time I notice a blatant 'commercial' within a show.
