Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

The Politics Policy is still in effect. A participants social media is NOT an invitation to discuss their political view points. Consider if discussion of certain social media posts will cause you to violate the politics policy BEFORE you hit the "Submit Reply" button.

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

I saw some of that too...people posted some quotes and clips.  He seems very angry and unhinged.  Couple that with his past?

HOW IS THIS AN ACCEPTABLE MAN TO MARRY???????

Men are looking for fresh grapes and Tabitha is basically a raisin by now , well according to their world view .

I'll just leave that there.

Yes , David  , we know you were an evil sinner by the age of three. I honestly will never get over that essay .

I think I saw it in the small talk thread. Four grown children, spouses, and 25 grandchildren living together with the parents. Three boys and a girl -- her husband changed his name to Putnam.

Actually I think it is 15 grandchildren for a total of 25 people.  They are in the construction business (except for 2 who are doctors) and they are building a 19,000 sq. foot house with 15 bedrooms and 19 bathrooms (or something like that).  Talk about chaos, I would go nuts in that place.  And besides the two bathrooms they currently have one washer and one dryer.

Why does every single speaker at the event have LIVE noted? Do they usually just show recorded crap?

Sometimes they do tape and show but that probably means it is ovulation time and that's more important than being there in person.

IIRC, back when Joshgate I broke, I looked up the family conference schedules. JB and MEchelle were headliners in two or three upcoming conferences and I think were scheduled to appear by video at one or more of the conferences. Lesser stars like the Bateses were generally going to appear in person. I believe the Duggars were scrubbed from those conferences that year.

Interesting that now the Duggs are scheduled to show up in person like the rest of the lineup. And talk about their godly ways in rearing children, for the benefit of their adoring audience.

I just can't imagine going to one of these things. All day, for more than one day?! And if you've heard the Duggars and the Bates speak once why would one need to hear them again?

Duggars: Michelle - We have 19 children with servants hearts and I delivered everyone of them. JB - and now we're working on 19 grandchildren - and laughs.

Bates: Kelly - It's hard when a couple of your 19 kids move away, but they are all followers of Jesus. Gil - tears up.

I wonder if the Rodriguii plan to come to the conference and fawn all over the Duggars and Bateses...we might be safe since they all couldn't afford to go to the Laura Ingalls Wilder house.

Is there free food ? Then yes . I also think Laura Ingalls was way too progressive for their tastes , working in the city and unsupervised buggy rides and this kind of stuff.

Maybe, they'll consider it such an honor to get to park their stinkbus next to the Duggars!

Ya, I don't think they go places without some benefit for them. They are just waiting for the day that they're invited to be a speaker at one of these events. I can just imagine Jill R whining to her husband it's always Michelle, Michelle, Michelle.

I hate to say it, but I want a Special on the R family.  Watching Jill R make everything about her, while her husband stands in the background with a plate of food and a silly expression on his face would be great.  But then I'd cry when the robotic kids creepily intoned "Hiiiiiiiiiii" with their hungry eyes begging someone to help them out.  And I'd get angry when Jill stormed into her sister's house and points out that Poor Amy is crippled and can't do her wifely duties anymore but her husband still loves her anyway!  (He should, since he's the reason Amy's in her condition anyway).  Then Jill can gather her kids up for some awful music and make an announcement on her latest blessing!  And while we're at it, maybe someone can pin down just what's going on with that guy who follows them around in his pickup while they're off grifting throughout the east coast.  I hear they're soon to embark on a six week tour of the church's of Florida.

Oh, that's right. He fell asleep at the wheel. Maybe the Putnam's should check out Amy's story before they vote on the daughter's husband needing to live and be closer to work because he's tired driving!

It doesn't seem like they can ever get much benefit from these trips. Gas and potential bus repairs have to cost them.

You never know. Jill R told a story of how they were stranded and needed a part for their RV. They ended up with someone driving an hour or two to bring them the part and someone buying them groceries. If they were home and needing a part, asking for help would have looked a little shady. I think they plan shit like that.

Tabitha's fiance came out with some explanation of the assault conviction and pardon:  https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10212465207689340&id=1356366176&ref=content_filter

That does all sound quite plausible and genuine. I don't personally see the need to drag a God into the matter, but recognize that that's just me, and for some people that's the impetus they need to  really turn around and not backslide as soon as the situation gets a bit more difficult and/or temptation rears its ugly head. I am prone to accept what he says, and do see the whole thing being very appealing to a woman who is enmeshed in the whole redemption arc...But if (IF) he is genuine and finds enough fulfillment in the life he has now signed on to (which is not impossible, for someone who has grown up in difficult circumstances but truly wishes to "repent" and is a fundamentally decent person, deep down), I think they could actually make each other quite happy.

So Tim got caught banging his friend's girlfriend and she filed false assault charges? Holy drama, but if he was hanging out with kind of a trashy crowd, I'm not entirely surprised. I'm hoping he's being honest, but I can't imagine the State would have expunged his record and removed him from the Registry if he was a legitimate threat. Going to prison for rape is a very scary prospect, so I can see why he would plea out even if he wasn't guilty. Despite that though, I can't help but feel like Tabitha got stuck with the guy nobody wanted.

Did anyone else notice that he didn't take responsibility for what he did, or even actually deny it? He and the woman ended up in a "situation" together because the boyfriend went to get food. Seriously? So the evil temptress had her way with him and then accused him of assault because they got caught. Lesson - women are liar whores. Enjoy submitting to him, Tabitha!

ETA - out of every 1000 rapes, only 57 reports lead to arrest, with 11 of those getting referred for prosecution. So the odds were in his favor yet he still took a plea.

Sorry, a lot is missing from what should be the meat of that story. He just got to another room to escape? Uhm, dude...

Translation = girl was property that was left alone so she is fair game? She's a stripper who drinks so is ok to assault her?

Did she willingly participate, or nervously giggle and not punch him in the face, so that means consent?

I feel there are tons of holes in this story, but the bottom line is Tabitha needs to see the red flags and RUN.

JD may be boring as plain oatmeal, Derrick may be lazy, Bin may be immature, but they don't come off as sexual deviants.

Was Jimbob ok with the SILs he chose, because they aren't sexual aggressors? This is the slim pickings they have?

Good job avoiding the weirdos, Jana. You may be the one with the most sense out of the whole bunch.

Ok, wait a minute. So I just reread the story and comments. Was Tim accused of  assaulting the girl when she was too high/drunk to give consent? Because that's an entirely different ball of wax than my original interpretation of what happened. I thought it was a situation where the girl feared reprisal from the boyfriend and claimed it was an assault rather than admit she slept with Tim willingly. I'm completely lost.

A poster says he allocuted to Criminal Sexual Conduct - 3rd Degree, which means he used force to overpower his victim or she was too incapacitated to give consent.

So he thought he could take advantage of a drunk woman, and she was consenting/to blame because she was a drunk stripper left alone.

I hate this asshole.

Oy vey. I wasn't aware that was the nature of the original complaint. And yes, tres classy to mention she was a stripper, thus eliminating her as a sympathetic victim in the eyes of his Fundie friends.

I can't believe Tabitha fell for this bullshit. She's so desperate she can't see the reason Tim has been single so long is because no other woman would touch him with a ten foot pole. It had nothing to do with God bringing them together. Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with the Paines that they think he's some great guy?

Dr Paine is named in the ATI lawsuit...he's got to marry her off so she's one less SAH kid to support...that's my theory.

That was the single worst explanation I think I've ever read.  What a sleezeball.  The devil made him do it.  And I think I read that God forgave him for original sin, and that's all Adam and Eve's fault, and his transgressions don't even count or something.  Or don't bear confessing, doing penance or good works for, or something.  So foreign to me.  No personal responsibility or shame or asking the victim for forgiveness (more like there is no victim but poor little ol' me) nor any sense of ethics and morality and personal responsibility.  None.  I'm stunned..

So this! Totally falls in line with the angry facebook post he made about some church ladies who dared disagree with the men folk at the church and he lost his marbles over it. Gothardism seems to appeal to this sociopathic and/or narcissistic group of beta males. If he becomes unhinged about a meek little church lady who might have had a better idea, wait until Tabby decides to serve rice instead of potatoes.

Sorry to report that it looks more like Dan Dullard is down the fundie hole.

Does this mean Dan and his wife don't sleep together why else would he be in the guest room reading. If it was me I would be reading in the bed that I  sleep in.

I presume they may have had different beds while she had cancer? If she needed a hospital bed, special equipment, medical precautions with cleaning, etc., it's not that odd for him to be in another room.

This is gushy, but not that crazy, IMO.

Dan is Cathy's son.

Edited to add: The Instagram pic above was posted by Dan's wife Deena, who AFAIK has not suffered from cancer. I think the post immediately above this one, mistook the Instagram pic as coming from Dan's mother Cathy and to be about Cathy's husband. I think the older man in the photo with Dan, is Deena's father.
