David Mazouz Shares His 'Gotham' And Arrowverse Crossover Idea
By CHARLIE RIDGELY - December 19, 2017
http://comicbook.com/dc/2017/12/19/david-mazouz-gotham-arrowverse-crossover-idea/

Quote

Self-proclaimed nerd and Gotham star David Mazouz apparently feels the same way. During an interview with the young actor, we asked what he'd do if he was going to make a crossover happen between the two worlds, and he had a great idea for the big event, although it did come with one major stipulation.

"First of all, if there's going to be a Crossover, they come to Gotham," Mazouz said. "That's kind of a must have because nobody in Gotham can time travel yet."

As he continued, Mazouz laid out a wonderful plan that utilized the Flashpoint storyline as a way to explain the difference in the two stories.

"The Flash kind of had their run-in with Flashpoint a couple of seasons ago. Maybe there could be another kind of Flashpoint where Flash runs back in time and goes to Gotham and maybe tries to stop Bruce Wayne's parents' murder from happening. Maybe not the traditional 'Bruce Wayne gets murdered instead and Thomas becomes Batman thing,' but something along those lines where the whole world gets whack and it's up to Flash to fix things in Gotham."

Dude - Jim and Sofia up for "Best Ship"? They were barely a thing on screen, and when they were, it had "bad idea" written all over it.

What?  My favorite shop was always the Titanic anyway.   There is nothing about mushy or tru luv.  The best ships for me are the “bad idea” ships anyway.

Sure, but it at least has to be entertaining or compelling, right? They were barely on screen.

They had a few good moments and to keep my metaphor going.....when they hit an iceberg a lot of people went down with the ship.

They actually (other than Penguin for villain and the cast as an ensemble) managed to pick things that make me wonder if they've seen the show at all. Mostly the things I would be least likely to nominate the show for.  But that's obviously just me!

Gotham not winning the ensemble nomination would be  a travesty.

You misspelled "Legends of Tomorrow".

In your review (or one of the comments), you speak of "bubblegum shows". After the lackluster first season (where it did take itself as high drama), it has embraced the crazy to be one of the best shows on TV.  Every one of the cast works well with any other, especially since they dialed down on Nate's bro-ness.  Even Zara, the new recruit, fits in seamlessly.

Best ensemble by far.

I gave up on LoT during season one because it was so bad. I may have to revisit it.

In other news I'm often a bit down on people commenting on my reviews by intentionally obfuscating matters and selectively quoting me in order to make me into some kind of misogynist. People seem to think I mind "women being bad-ass". What I mind is "bad-assery" as a substitute for well written and multi-dimensional women, and I think the current discourse about cross-gender violence in modern television is very, very dangerous. :-/

Also I finished my Harvey Dent review because I had to post it to get the foul taste of the midseason finale out of my mouth.

I like what you said about bad-assery and totally agree.  But I think the "any woman can beat any man" trope started at least as far back as Buffy.  I agree that it's gotten thoroughly ridiculous.

WORST NEW CHARACTER ON ESTABLISHED SHOW
Sofia Falcone, Gotham

OK, so most of us on this forum (including me) love Sofia Falcone...so what are we seeing that TVLine isn't?

I must completely disagree with them. Sofia has been a breath of fresh air.

Yeah, I wish that they had included a little blurb explaining all their choices. I've seen some people who don't like some of Reed's acting choices or they simply don't like Sofia because of what she's doing to some of their favorite characters (Oswald, Jim), but worst new character out of all the shows? I don't see that and I wish they had explained why they chose her.

I disagree with them on both counts.  I really like Sofia Falcone as a character, and if I had to choose a scene to "unsee" on this season it would be Pig's People Pies...so gross it almost detracted from the otherwise excellent Pig Cellblock Tango.

LOL at this show's producers.  Charlie Tahan turns 20 in June this year.  Why not just keep him?

It's also not like he did a bad job either.

I don't get this obsession with recasting characters. Gotham should have known that, at some point, anyone could be brought back- get someone you'd want to stick with.

Fox shows won't end up on ABC as part of Disney merger, chairman promises
LYNETTE RICE   January 04, 2018 AT 01:25 PM EST
http://ew.com/tv/2018/01/04/fox-shows-abc-disney-merger/

“Fox Broadcasting Shows will continue to be on FBC,” Chairman and CEO Dana Walden told reporters Thursday in Pasadena. “There is no plans to move Fox shows over to ABC.”

But there will be a new division as part of the billion-dollar merger. Fox Broadcasting Co, along with Fox News and the Fox owned and operated stations, will be spun off into the “new Fox,” explained Fox TV Group Chairman Gary Newman.

“It will be a very robust, nimble company,” Newman told reporters during the semi-annual Television Critics Association tour. “It’s an exciting and dynamic time for the TV business. New Fox will chart a new course.”

For the next 12 to 18 months, however, it will remain business as usual. “I do not mean to say what the future is,” cautions Newman. “The truth is, we don’t really know. We have to operate as if the deal won’t go through. Our anticipation is that it will go through… it will pass regulatory muster. This development season, we are reading scripts. We will make a similar amount of pilots as we have made in the past. We aren’t going to worry about what happens down the road when this deal happens.”

There haven’t even been creative discussions about the content, Newman added, though he is confident that Disney won’t “Disney-fy” their shows. “They were incredibly vocal to us about how much they liked our brand, how much they admired the programming,” he told reporters. “We have every expectation they are not acquiring Fox to somehow turn it into some form of a PG company, to ‘Disney-fy’ it.  They will be encouraging of our content.”

For those wondering about the return date, David Mazouz said on Instagram that it would be March 1st. Grain of salt and all that since it is hardly an official announcement from the network, but it makes sense and there's a good chance he's right.

I figure post-Olympics would make sense. I doubt FOX would want to (or could even afford) to hold off on the second half much longer than that.

It's not a new division, it's a separate company independent of Disney.  But, while they'll own the Fox studio in Century City, they won't have anyone to run it since the production company is being merged into Disney.

Gotham winds up somewhat outside of all this, as it's produced by WB.  So it doesn't get touched by Disney at all; the big question is, what happens with the Fox broadcast network going forward, since they won't have a production house and will have to run off of ad revenue.

I think this is why there are rumors/speculation that Fox Network will sooner or later move to sports/reality TV only. Cheaper to produce, and generally brings in the ad dollars. Just buying shows from other studios where you don't get any of the back end money (streaming rights, etc) is not really a way to run a network. If Gotham gets renewed, the fifth season will probably be the last if only because Fox Network's model will transform into something different.

Right, unless WB takes it back for itself and positions it on the new streaming service alongside Titans, or moves it to the CW.

I've wondered if they were going to do that, but I think that largely depends on how profitable Gotham has been overall for WB (I have no idea how much they make overseas/streaming). If they believe there is still a strong audience, then it might actually be smart to launch the streaming service with an established show with a built-in audience. But if it actually isn't that profitable, they may let the chips fall where they may when Fox makes their decisions.

I think they are doing something where all the villains are teaming together (David M gave an interview the other day where he called them “the Justice League of villains” and he said Jerome is basically going to be around for the remainder of the season).

I also noticed the guy who cuts the trailers/promos for Fox tweeted yesterday that he was working on new Gotham material. That probably means new promo/return date announcement soon.

That's great news.  I always enjoy Ben's behind the scenes work.  And I may be the only one who still likes Jim Gordon, so that wasn't meant as a slam. But he seems to have a lot of skill and/or talent as a director and writer as well.

I'm more than happy for Ben to write and direct more episodes, especially if they're of the same quality we got with These Delicate And Dark Obsessions and The Demon's Head.

With the recasts going on, I'm surprised they haven't recast Harvey Dent at this rate.

Cameron Monaghan also tweeted this last week, so this has to add to the villain Justice League thing.

Fox’s Gary Newman On Potential ’24’ Comeback; Renewal Possibilities For ‘Gotham’, ‘The Exorcist’ & More – INTV

At the INTV conference in Jerusalem today, [Fox Chairman Gary] Newman and I touched on that [24 franchise] project’s development, as well as renewal possibilities for some major series, the revival of American Idol — on ABC — and speculation about his future role.
*  *  *
Looking at renewal possibilities for ongoing series, Newman sounded a positive tone on Gotham, LA To Vegas and Empire while allowing that The Last Man On Earth and The Exorcist are on the bubble.
*  *  *
There’s better news in Gotham. “We asked a lot of it this year moving to Thursday nights and I thought it did a pretty good job of opening up that night for us. I feel like Gotham should have a place in our schedule.” That will “purely be a matter of scheduling. Thursday is not available in the fall, so where do we use it? Hopefully there’s more years of Gotham.”

That sounds mostly positive, with enough room for them to say, "Sorry. No room on the schedule." Fingers crossed they find room, I love this stupid, crazy show.
