Bettie Jo is in Season 7 episode 3 maybe? (sorry, i don't remember for sure).  By the way, you know Bettie Jo had the baby on 8/10 - 5 pounds 7oz 19 inches long.  Preston.

I'm glad that worked out! I was worried.

I just saw a "Where are They Now" episode.  It was a rerun, but it was Zsalynn and a woman whose name I can't remember.  Anyway, the update on Zsalynn was awesome.  She lost an additional 250 lbs of useless blubber when she dumped her d-bag hubby.  He was such a jerk.  She was one of my favorites! Really trying to get her life together and be a better Mom to Hannah.  I don't always like some of these people but I really hope she ends up happy.

Thanks so much for this. It sent me down a quick rabbit hole and led me to the Anti-MBFFL show. Anybody that hates on Twitney Way Thore is a friend of mine.

Lol, they really tore into her, didn't they? I really thought I was the only one who thought she was awful. Not because of her weight but the whole her.

Whitney already can't shave her legs and things like that--if she doesn't get a handle on her nutrition, she might just become one of Dr. Now's patients. Except I suspect he will not put up with her whining and excuses--Whitney's trainer already fired her once for not complying with the program.

Absolutely! The thing is I liked Whitney the first season. As the show's gone on though, like turned into cringing which turned into face-palming myself almost to the point of permanent brain damage and now I'm just waiting for her takedown.

One thing about TLC, they love to build up their reality show families then tear them down. It happens too much to be accidental.

It does, but I don't think TLC has to do anything to make it happen. They just let the cameras roll and record the inevitable. Which I'd like to think is the real "stealth" purpose of these shows: To demonstrate that whatever premise the show starts with - that you can be fat and fabulous, that it's loving and healthy to have 19 kids, that you can have multiple wives and everyone will be happy, that you can marry a total stranger who's there for all the right reasons - we soon see that the polar opposite is true.

Every time.

This topic's namesake quote got me thinking of Penny's Greatest Hits:

1. "I can clean my own vagina now!!" and "I'm holding the pad in place by clenching my butt cheeks." Poor little Liam is going to live a life of hell if/when his classmates in middle school find these clips.

2. "I cannot function without wontons." That's great Penny! How do you think your sweet little boy is going to function without his mom? Or a nasty case of E.Coli from your pee pad buffet?

3. "I thought frying was better than ordering out." Edgar, bless your heart. I wonder if Penny told him that?

Seriously, thinking about Liam's future I've seen people say he's going to turn into Pauline's son Dillon in a few years. I think Liam will fare a little better because he seems to be an active and engaged little boy. He has Edgar to get him back and forth to his after school and weekend activities and keep him busy. Poor Dillon has had nothing outside of caring for his mother. His cousin who's around the same age stated that he doesn't interact with her and he sees her a few times a week. He looks like a very sensitive and introverted young man by nature. That probably wouldn't change but he could've found a peer group and friends he could relate to if given the chance. He has been so stunted in his social development it's just heartbreaking. That infuriates me with Pauline. He's young though and it's never too late. There's always hope. Free Dillon!

While I was looking for 90 Day Fiance on Youtube I found this radio show that is definitely Anti-Penny.

The Anti Penny Radio Show (my words)

HA! Thanks for this! I'm not a big Opie and Anthony fan, but I guess in this case the enemy of my enemy is my friend? I loved how they railed on Edgar, too, "Stop feeding that monster!"

I am fairly certain that Penny is having "skin surgery" as I read it on her FB a while back but she seems to have since deleted it. I still have high hopes TLC will once again feature my favorite hateful jerk and her brain-dead husband.

I haven't seen this mentioned about Chuck's episode, his crying was ridiculous! Not the ugly crying face or the "woe is me" routine, the actual sound of it. I swear the first time I watched it I was startled. Him and Nissa were fighting in the car and I looked away for a second and the next thing I heard was him saying "I'm SORRY!'" and I was like WTH? I thought they'd hit something. The pitch and nasally falsetto, it was bizarre.

It was closer to blubbering. Grown man blubbering because that mean ole Nissa had the nerve to want a husband that didn't have to be told (repeatedly) to pick up her pain meds. It made me laugh hysterically.

I still think the thread title is the best of all time.

It's possibly a tie with the old TWoP Little House on the Prairie thread: "Pa, Ma, and That Mime Who Raped Sylvia"

I have mixed feelings on the thread title.  I feel that the show has been remiss in telling us about the vagina cleaning status of the other contestants.  When they put up the title telling us how much weight has been lost, they could do something like put up a title that says "Can Clean Own Vagina:" and then maybe a green check mark or a red X (with a "Family Feud"-style buzzer sound).    At least do something!  Every time I see the thread title, I just think of how this show has just really dropped the ball on the whole vagina cleaning issue.

I don't even think "vagina" is accurate. Vaginas are on the inside. I think we are actually contemplating vulvas (vulvae?) here. The vulvas of morbidly obese people. Criminy. But I digress. Unless these people are roto-rootering their private parts, I think they are (in some cases!) cleaning their vulvas. Which reminds me, I hope Nicole didn't attempt that with a garden hose. Infections would ensue.

I for one am shocked that Penny doesn't use the scientifically accurate terms for her genitals! (She is the producer of the thread title quote, IIRC) ;)

I'd like to see an update on people from previous seasons. I posted this on the other thread but the one with Nikki Webster, the wardrobe specialist, looks amazing in her Facebook photos. It would help keep people motivated, I think, if they can see that it's possible to lose and keep off significant amounts of weight over the long term.

Halcyon Days: I know your post was a year ago but thank you for compiling that list of past participants' social media accounts.

Christina is my favorite. Her transformation astounds me, and I don't impress easily.  How does someone as huge as she was turn into such a beautiful young woman?  It's mind boggling.  She's like the Anti-Penny.  Although the James K. episode that aired last night makes Penny look like a success story.

Amber Rachdi has a second Facebook page, one of those "Public Figure" pages that famous and semi-famous people have.

Didn't Christina become anorexic? I think that's a risk for some of them. She didn't really seem happy to me; she may be pushing herself too much.

Yes but Dr. Nowzardan caught that, sent her to a therapist, and ordered her to GAIN a little weight (I think 15 pounds) before he would do skin surgery on her legs.

That was on the followup a few years ago, so I don't know how she's doing now.  I hope she has continued to work with her therapist and is maintaining her healthy weight.

I'm a little surprised that her goal weight was 170.  That's usually pretty heavy for a woman, but that's what the doctor ordered and she looks fantastic.

I hope she continues therapy. Eating disorders don't just go away when weight is lost. As seen they can just change shape, so I hope she's okay.

Maybe goal weights depend on their height as well.

They do.  I just looked it up and apparently your "frame" comes into play too.  Frame I guess is your skeletal width.  A woman would have to be 6 feet tall and have a large frame to be at goal at 177.  Which I guess isn't inconceivable for Christina.  You can never really get a sense for how tall any of the participants are.

Dr. Nowzardan's weight goals always seemed higher than the ones I see on the Internet and the ones Weight Watchers uses.  He tells his male patients to get down to 250.  The first time I tried to lose weight, on Weight Watchers, I started at 250 and they told me to get down to 188.

I don't watch her show, but it fascinates me.  They say that unattractive people usually have inner beauty.  It fascinates me that somebody can be so ugly on both the inside AND the outside.

I saw an interview with her when she was promoting her show and decided that I disliked her very very very much. She seemed like a horrible person when promoting her show, and since TLC hires liars as their business practices, I knew I didn't want to watch her. The clips I've seen since then re-enforce my dislike of her. It's quite a lot of hate for someone I've never actually watched, but I have it for that June mom of Honey BooBoo, too, and I've never watched her shows, either.

She appears to be pretty tall. I am 5'11" and 170 is a great weight for us types that want a bit of muscle. If a really tall woman gets below 150 she often looks pretty gaunt, depending on her frame.

There's a (ridiculous) Facebook group devoted to discussions of this show.  Penny created a fake FB account and joined the group. It's so obvious it is her.  When her name comes up, she jumps in pretending to be another person and defends Penny and how well she's doing.  She's truly a sicko.

I really don't care if Penny and Edgar enjoy living in a co-dependent lifestyle.  But that poor kid!  It's so tragic that he doesn't have relatives who can pull him out of that sick home environment.  With no model of a healthy adult relationship, his future is doomed.  And good point about the teasing in middle school.  That poor kid.

The risk is there but it's pretty low. Anorexia nervosa is a psychiatric illness that certain people can be triggered into, most people cannot just "become" anorexic by weight loss alone. This is putting it extremely simplistically, having been anorexic myself. I do worry for Christina--anorexia is no picnic, I hope she's got a good support system.

Did you see her followup episode?  There were some pretty alarming things she said to Dr. Now.  She said that she would eat 500-600 calories a day.  She said that if the scale went up the slightest bit she would panic and stop eating for days.  Being as heavy as she used to be was a terrible experience, and she has a tremendous fear of going back there.  That is basically her anorexia trigger.

Here's a brief article from TV Ruckus where they interview James' PT guy, Rudi Pijnnaken.

Quote

In the case of James and Lisa, it took 11 treatments for them to “…understand that if they didn’t follow the diet or exercise nothing I could do would help them,” Pijnnaken said to us. As of this writing, James can sit up with his right leg dangling off the bed, without screams of pain.

Also:

Quote

Pijnnaken told us that James and Lisa got little to no guidance on how to follow the doctor’s plan.

Unless they were illiterate, they could read what Now gave them. I don't think it's for lack of guidance, it's for lack of commitment.

Not only that . . . if Dr. Now were to have read this, the PT would be dropped from his list of support providers.

ETA:  Rudi Pijnnaken is the owner of a company that employs over 80 physical therapists and services all kinds of nursing homes, etc.  Yeah.  He's going to be personally going to James' place to get him to sit up.  But only if there are cameras there.  It's odd that Lisa said, "It's good to see you again" when he went into the apartment.  Scripted???

I believe they were given exactly the same guidance as everyone.  They clearly needed more help outside the normal routine but no one realized how inept these people were.  Low IQ is at play here.  How anyone in 2017 cannot know some basics of low calorie cooking stuns.  If you watch TV you cannot avoid it and I even try.  The segments on healthy eating rule daytime talk shows.

Their PT got sucked into their lies about not being given the information.  Don't know how to shop for the food on the list?  Oh come on.  It is an all lean protein diet with a few vegetables.   Not difficult!  Stop at meat counter then proceed to produce,  only put things in cart that are on the list.  10 damn minutes.

They could google "carbs" or "no-carb diet" or "sample weight-loss diet." Or hey, if the doctor's instructions aren't clear, call the office and ask for clarification.

Hell, he could even keep eating the same crap but gradually decrease portion size and he would eventually lose SOME weight. But some people just don't want to know.
