Small Talk: The Prayer Closet

Message added by Scarlett45

This is a reminder that the Politics Policy is still in effect.

I understand with recent current events there may be a desire to discuss political social media posts of those in the Duggar realm- this is not the place for those discussions. If you believe someone has violated forum rules, report them, do not respond or engage.

Political discussion is not allowed in this forum- this includes Small Talk topics. Please stay in the spirit of the policy- I have noticed a tendency for some to follow the letter but not the spirit.

While we understand the frustration (change is never easy), please keep in mind that not everyone feels the same way and that for those members who don't, the ongoing conversation about other forums and chat options can equally be a cause of frustration.

Dallas here and it was a beautiful fall weekend, with highs in the upper 50's and lower 60's. We're back up to mid 70's today and tomorrow, before another little cool front comes in on Tuesday. I just wish it would stay consistently cold, this up and down stuff drives me and my allergies nuts.

I sort of liked GSM but then I will read almost  anything. I thought  she left about the time WW did? Said something  about moving to Ireland  ?  I did wonder  if she was connected  to   WWE somehow.

I think GEML posted after she moved to Ireland.  I think she stopped posting around same time WW left so I assumed they were connected too.  It is weird since GEML was a frequent poster & then poof she was gone.

Yeah, it seems to me that someone had uncovered some connection between GEML and WW, but I don't remember what it was, nor could I swear that I'm not imagining it.

Big fat left turn - I watched the creepy show tonight (48 Hours) about the real estate guy who kidnapped and held hostage the girl found chained in a storage bin recently.  Oh my gosh, I hope someone else caught that.  The mother of the real estate guy... OMG...

said repeatedly "I just want people to know my son is not a bad person".  (He admitted murdering 8 people, but so far there are only 7 bodies).  "He is NOT a monster.  He is NOT.  Ted Bundy is a monster.  Todd (her son) is not even close to being a monster".  (Ummmmmm....).   Why did he kidnap Kala?   "Because he didn't know what else to DO with her" says mom, logically.   "She saw him kill her boyfriend, and he had to do something or else she would have gone to the police".  (Ahhhhh.  Well then).   So why did he kill Charlie? (The boyfriend).  "I guess he was mouthing off and he got mad, and I guess....he shot him".   (Yes, according to your son, who's clearly not a monster, that's pretty much the story).  So...is that how he deals with anger then, he kills people?  Mom pauses and carefully (obviously) ponders her answer before blurting out "well, he never did before!!!"  Because yes:  yes he did do that before.

i shouldn't poke fun at that, it was horrifying.  I was just amazed that a) the mother of the killer/kidnapper would give an interview or b) she defended the son.  I guess you wouldn't truly know how you'd react unless it happened in your family.  Still, I'd like to think I would love my child regardless (I truly believe I'd love them, even "if").  But if I ever ever got trapped in an interview like that, I'd be saying "I raised a monster!!!  He's a MONSTER!!!"

ETA:  I've been seeing a few ads for Office Christmas Party, and I did the seats for that show.  I always get a kick out it when the films come out!

I saw the very last few minutes of that show (I think) on Discovery ID. (That channel is like crack. And just to show how weird I am? Animal Planet and ID are my go-to channels to see what's on. Talk about opposite ends of the spectrum. Every time I put on ID hubby asks if I'm planning to murder him. I explain that given how they always catch the person, it would be foolish of me to even try.) I was almost feeling sorry for the mom because she was crying, but then...there were no tears. Sob sob sob--no tears.

Too bad we won't see your chairs during the movie, @Happyfatchick.

Save me a seat at the Discovery ID table.  It is very addictive. One of my favorite shows is the one that solves old cases from the 50's & 60's.  Forgot name but saw commercial new season is starting soon.  I caught most of the 48 Hours show last night incl mom's interview.  What I thought what was sad  (& amazing) was when the police psychologist guy (who I thought was very distinguished looking BTW) said Todd's behavior could be traced way back to his toddler nursery school days.  I agree with Happy about why was Mom giving interview & defending him.

Frenchtoast- Mr Barb questions me about murdering him also when I go on one of my Discovery ID binges. I told him not to worry, something would happen & I would be caught before something even happened to him.  Plus I have a conscience (? sp) & couldn't live with myself. He also reminds me of episode where a guy buries his wife under the garage floor & she wasn't found for years.  I like what Kelly Rippa said one time about her addiction to Snapped. (I know, it's on another channel but I like this show too.  I had it on one day when electrician came & got him hooked. Lol)  Kelly said from watching Snapped she's learned if she was going to murder someone : to buy the tarp & supplies way ahead of time from a store that isn't nearby & pay cash so transaction can't be traced.  Preferably a Mom & Pop hardware store, where she wouldn't be taped.

Happy - that is so neat about the chairs & it is too bad we dont get to see them.

Barb23, do you mean "A Crime to Remember"?  That is one of my favorites, too.

I am a total ID addict, to the point where I recently had to force myself to start watching more upbeat stuff. I got hooked while removing from surgery a couple of years ago, then shortly afterward I was laid off and what else could I do but watch tons of TV??

The other day I watched an episode of "Suspicion," about a young girl who was snatched from her home, back in the '80s. Turned out it happened within spittin' distance of my house, though I didn't live here then. Same thing with the story of Indle King, who killed his "mail order" bride in Mountlake Terrace, WA. Turns out I pass that house quite often. **shudder**

@Barb23, in the movie As Good As it Gets with Helen Hunt and Jack Nicholson, she's trying to write a thank you note, and she asks her mom how to spell "conscience". The mom spells it, and HH looks at it on paper and says "con-SCIENCE???  That can't be right!!!"  That's how I always remember to spell it.  (I always can remember my zip code EIEIO from a song so I guess I'm into word association).

I am absolutely in love with IDTV.  My husband jokes about me studying how to get rid of him too.  But I flip it sometimes and threaten him with "Don't mess with me, I know how to get rid of a body".  I love A Crime to Remember, and I think I'm going to enjoy the People one as well.

Yes, it is A Crime to Remember.  Regarding TV show binges, when I was layed off a few years ago I went on  prison show binge watching.  Any and all types. This was the time Prison Wives was debuting & I think I still have each show & story memorized.   I couldn't get enough.

Happy - that's a funny story about the spelling of Conscience.  Growing up, my mom would come up with little memory cues to help us remember the spelling or meaning of words.  There is a name for this but can't think of it right now. lol.  Mr. Barb & I came up with all sorts of "reminders" when I was learning medical terminology 30 years ago & still remember some of them.  One of my favorites actually came from a classmate.  It was to remember that the "systolic" number of blood pressure reading is the top number, "diastolic" is the bottom.  This was when Cheers was big on TV,  so she came up with "Sam over Diane."  S in Sam stands for Systolic & the "D" in Diane is for Diastolic.

Switching gears again - no trip to WA state for us tomorrow. Mr lookeyloo decided to have a stroke around midnight. He is in the observational unit at Grady Hospital which is supposed to be premier in stroke treatment.  In addition to the words "chest pain" the words "I think I am having a stroke" get you to the front of the line. They didn't even ask for insurance info first. Had CT scan. Will have MRI later. He slurs his speech on and off. Still understandable. If it resolves that would be good.  Otherwise he will get speech therapy. I am home to get out of pjs. Will go back soon. Happy Thanksgiving!!!

So sorry to hear that Lookeyloo!  Prayers for a speedy recovery and that the speech issues resolve themselves.  I am sure that was terrifying and I hope you both get some rest.

In the mood for a funny story to cheer you up? Last night I had a dream that Jilly Muffin set a new world record in the 100 freestyle at the Olympics!   Bwahaha!!!!  As the mother of a 14 year old competitive swimmer this brings up so many questions. What did she wear to swim?  How did she get all that hair in a swim cap?  When did she get so motivated to work for something?

i woke right up and texted my daughter. She is with her team in Puerto Rico training right now. They fly back tonight. She (at 5:30 am so no Duggar time for her) texted me back right away and said, "No fair!!!!".  For the record, my daughter has very thick, LONG blonde hair that she deep conditions regularly, gets clarifying treatments and regular trims at the salon, and can get it into a bun/swimcap ready in about 15 seconds.  We'e seen Duggar hair under regular conditions. Can you imagine what their hair would be like if subjected to chlorine all the time?  Now my daughter gets to spend the rest of the long weekend catching up on schoolwork b/c no SOTDRT for her either.

Oh no, Lookey!!!!  I am so sorry to hear that!  You sound so strong and just rattled off that whole message like you weren't stressing at all.  Liar liar pants on fire!!!  OMG, I know you're in a tizzy.  But...you do sound strong, so maybe you're ok.  THAT will put a big fat curve in a thanksgiving party!  I hope he recovers completely and quickly and you get OUT of Grady as rapidly as possible.  If you're there late today, have your son walk you to the car.  If he leaves before you (he won't!) ask for security to walk you out.  They don't mind.  It can be a very, very scary place.  The doctors and nurses are wonderful, truly.  It's good care, but sort of creepy.

thoughts, prayers, and love to you both!

Thanks all. Of course we are stressed and very bummed to miss seeing the grands. We love thanksgiving with them. Our favorite holiday. It is very quiet here over the holiday. Which means short staffed. Which means we are just waiting for tests that normally would have happened today. So "probably" tomorrow. He is still in the diagnostic area behind the ER and we don't want him to have to go "upstairs".

@Happyfatchick - I walked to my car this am around 6 and all was quiet. There was security very visible. I'm leaving here before dark. I am not a risk taker so I'm not walking into anything iffy.

Thanks for everyone's concern. We are muddling through.

And Alaska Airlines gave us a full credit for the tickets.

I hope everyone is having a better day than we are

Lookeyloo -have been thinking about you throughout the day.....

On another note, I brought up the subject  of the Memory helpers at dinner tonite  & it was interesting to hear everyone's contributions. We had several variations for remembering the names of the planets,  the notes on the music scale, etc. Emma675  - my son had something similar to yours he learned in school for the directions.

Wonder what the Duggars discuss at dinner or do they just sit there & stare into space?

Thanks @Barb23 - I left him there. No place for me and the tests are delayed because of holiday staffing. I hate being here alone where I can't eyeball him.

Good question about the Duggars. First of all I don't think there is dinner. They probably eat in batches according to their "jurisdictions". Or JB job assignments. And if he is there he probably goes over their duties for tomorrow. As far as the lost girls what could they talk about. Do they have to recite bible verses?  They seem like the most boring people on earth

They probably just stare at one another in awkward silence, much like the J'Slaves did at dinner during that girls' weekend.

I'm sure you're right. What could they talk about? They don't work, don't read, don't watch TV, don't have hobbies or interests. Their only topics are Jeebus, courtships, weddings, babies, and awkward sexual references.

Since it is silly season time, what has been your favorite present and your worse present you have received in the past? Would you rather get a gift card or money to pick your own present, or go out and get your own present?

I would rather pick my own present and/or get a gift card or money. I do not like people picking out clothes for me. I can be picky. I also would rather shop on online or wait until the after holiday sales to get something I would enjoy.

Mr. lookeyloo is home!  Yay.  MRI confirmed CT scan of one tiny transient area, which appears to have resolved.  Has to check with cardiologist in case something is amiss in his heart, but, he had an echo a few months ago and all was well.  No restrictions.  We are exhausted.  Son brought us a lovely meal of turkey and other sides from the dinner he went to with mutual friends.  So we are set for tonight.

I appreciate everyone's kind thoughts.

What wonderful news, LOOKEYLOO! You owe yourselves a big Thanksgiving redo!

Bigskygirl, at this point we have all the "stuff" we need, so gift cards to favorite restaurants or online stores works for us. Favorite present? Anything a little child made just for me. Worst Present? Accessories for the house that absolutely are not our taste, but present giver will be at our house often. Sigh.

I hope Santa will help the doctors figure out what the heck is going on next month. I see the endocrinologist on 12/8 and the GI specialist on 12/27. I am still having some stomach cramps and lower back pain, but it is a little better than last week. Waiting to see the doctors and waiting to see what tests they want me to have is not fun. At least I can go to the library to get books to read, and dvd movies to watch. I have been watching older movies and older Disney movies. I also notice on I-tunes they have a lot of older movies I can rent and watch on my computer. I have been reading a lot of Fern Michaels books. She is becoming one of my favorite authors especially with her Sisterhood books.

Great news Lookeyloo, enjoy the rest of your weekend!!

Bigskygirl - wishing you the best on your appointments & the distractions (movies & reading) sound like  a good idea. I've read a lot of Fern Michaels too.

Re: the Christmas gifts.  I'd rather have gift cards or money too.  For the past couple years, my mother-in-law has been giving me clothes that aren't my style & don't fit right, even tho they are my size. Sorry, light green corduroys are just not me.  She includes gift slips but with my RA I don't get out much to be able to return/exchange items.  I'm not the only one that gets clothes in the family, so we all take it in stride.

Now for my all time favorite gift -a portrait of my then one year old son my father painted.  He usually painted landscapes (quite well I must brag) so this portrait was a new endeavor for him & the only one he ever painted.  He painted it from a photo portrait of my son.  I thought it was going to be a train set when he handed me the box because model railroading was another hobby of his & we always had a Christmas train garden so I thought he was passing on the tradition to my son.  When I opened the box & saw what it was, I was speechless & then the tears came.  The funny thing was that  Mr. Barb & I were the only ones that didn't know about it. Even my parent's neighbors knew & would stop in to see the progress.  Needless to say, the portrait hangs proudly front & center in our living room.  Since my dad is no longer with us it has become even more special.

I'm a little late, but Lookeyloo, I'm glad to hear he's home and hope everything calms down and you can get some rest.

We had a low key Thanksgiving (which was a nice change) and I spent all of today binge watching the Netflix Gilmore Girls episodes. I will have puffy eyes tomorrow from crying so much, but I also managed to get almost all of my holiday shopping done today, too. I also got some of the inside and outside decorations up (except for the tree). So I was somewhat productive.
