Did anyone else get this message when trying to come here, on Chrome? "net::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID"

It also said that Primetimer's security certificate expired yesterday. Crazy. It's showing as Not secure on my browser. 

I've had my fill of Mulaney so I'm glad he didn't stick around. A lot of the others did cameos! I don't like Che and Jost swapping bad jokes, but at least Scarlett was a good sport about it. 

The only things that made me laugh were the airport parade and seeing the Charlie Brown kids dancing. Most of the other things I felt like went on too long, especially the parking lot space skit.

Scarlett was a very good sport.  I thought the jokes about her got really raunchy, and not in a funny way.

I don't know. Would SNL ever bring on a criminal to host, just because he's in the news and has a certain populist appeal to some? After making all those jokes about him? Doesn't seem like something Lorne would ever do...

The minute I saw Scarlett on the cold opening, I knew they were doing the WU joke swap. I was howling the whole time.

The car skit was my favorite. I love Martin Short.

Overall a good show.

Got to watch the cold open as I fast forward through the endlessly unfunny political cold opens, but that was super cringe and not funny. The only exception was Tina Fey.

Seemed like Paul Rudd got more screen time than Short and that was a good thing as Short seems to overact in every scene.

Melissa McCarthy makes me laugh every time she is on screen and she was great in the car sketch.

Can Che just once not look at the audience for approval after every one of his jokes?

Yep. The site was down all night for me.

But don’t worry, I wrote down my usual play by play and I’ll post it in a bit.

Overall, loved the show.

Cold Open: Tom Hanks welcomes Martin Short to the Five Timers Club! Oh, and Paul Rudd. And Tina Fey! And ScarJo! And Melissa McCarthy! And Emma Stone! And Mulaney! Oh, and Alec Balwin. Love that the bar has Crystal Head vodka. And Scarlett closing the door on Colin. Man, just about everyone was here. Probably the best of these sketches so far. But where was Candace Bergen? John Goodman? Paul Simon? Elliot Gould (who was also on Mulaney)?!

Monologue: Martin Short always delivers. Now THAT is how you do it. That song was great, and we saw the showgirls and Lincoln backstage! Feels like it’s been forever. But no llama this time.

“Gather around, youngsters. And Kenan.”

Parking Spot: Again, Martin’s physical comedy made this. Melissa McCarthy as his wife at the end was the perfect capper. She was definitely having some fun tonight.

An Act of Kindness: I was wondering what the twist was gonna be. Heidi’s husband wondering where the hell she’s been, and Kenan selling her out and stealing her car.

“I made a Christmas mistake” is gonna get some use, I’ll tell you that. And maybe “it’s steal-yo-bitch o’clock!”

Christmas Week Airport Parade: I’m a sucker for these sketches, and a fun way to get some cameos, like Martin Short spit taking on Paul Rudd. And Tom Hanks as Captain Sully. This was a fun one, and it had the whole cast in it! Loved that it was in Newark because of course it was.

Hozier 1: Oh THIS song (Too Sweet) was by him! I like this one! But the 8H acoustics and sound mixing strike again.

WU: “You’re wooing for justice, right?” This was a hot audience for a punchy Update. There was a coin flip between whether Bowen or Sarah would be the drone, and it landed on Bowen. That costume was impressive, though. “Manned or unmanned, I make it work!”

And we get Joke Swap! And man, they joke swapped the intro to Joke Swap before they even did anything! Cutting to ScarJo watching it was perfect. I was dying.

Sabado Gigante: Ooh, another Sabado Gigante sketch! Paul Rudd really was the perfect contestant this time. And Dana Carvey! Where were they hiding YOU the past few weeks?! Did they swap Martin Short out for him at the last second?!

Hozier 2: Was not expecting “Fairytale of New York” on the bingo card. It’s a beautiful song (and I’m betting it was a tribute to Shane MacGowan, who passed earlier this year). And they found a way around THAT lyric. Thank god I DVR'd this one, I went back and replayed it like five times. I NEVER do that.

Charlie Brown Christmas: Where was Bill Hader as Al Pacino as Charlie Brown when you need him? And they actually included everyone in the dancing scene, even 3 and 4 (the two girls in the pink shirts) and 5 (the boy in orange). That was fun and Kenan was great as Snoopy, but there’s no beating You’re A Rat Bastard, Charlie Brown.

This was a really really fun show, with the right amount of energy with everyone. Even the audience was hot tonight! But Martin Short wasn’t in enough sketches. Between the Five Timers and the Joke Swap, something definitely got cut.

Figured every cut sketch had Martin in it, and Sabado Gigante just happened to be the only one that didn't. Still weird to have an entire half hour without the host in it.

I didn’t recognize Melissa McCarthy in the open.  Has she lost a lot of weight?  And, I must not watch SNL enough because I had no idea Kristen Wiig had hosted 5 times. 🥴

I love Martin Short!  His monologue performance was great.

Murder isn't funny, and I'm tired of the jokes.

The only sketches I liked were the Parking Lot and Charlie Browns's Christmas.  Also, Hozier was good.  Otherwise, this Christmas episode was a bummer for me.  It didn't help that f*cking Jimmy Fallon had to show up and make things even worse.

Jeez, if they have this many guest stars for the Xmas show, what's the anniversary show going to be like?  Might as well tell the regular cast to stay home that night.

I've always liked the joke swap, but I feel Jost and Che are overdoing their reactions lately.  The jokes aren't THAT shocking and are sometimes predictable.  That roast beef joke, though...whoa!

pretty fun show and I'm usually of the opinion that a little martin short goes a long way. Parking spot was the best of the live sketches though the shear absurdiness of Sabota Gigante almost pushes it to the top.

Charlie Brown kids dancing are always good for a laugh.  I haven't seen A Charlie Brown Christmas this year, I think Apple TV owns exclusive rights right now.

The crowd cheering so loudly for Luigi Mangione was downright disturbing.

Yes! I love that one, and thank the Powers that Be that he didn't go with the stupid "Eat Your Young."  I love Hozier but even the best artists come up with a clunker once in a while, and that's his.  "Nobody's Soldier" would have been fine too.

Oh yeah! I wasn't even planning to watch (I can actually take or leave Martin Short), but decided to DVR it just for Hozier.  And am I ever glad I did!

Of course, Shane and Kirsty are irreplaceable - but that was just a lovely tribute (and as someone on Hozier's FB mentioned, it took 3 wonderful women harmonizing, to fill Kirsty's shoes - presumable "these" shoes!)

Shane MacGowan actually passed away on Nov. 30, 2023. And I had stayed late at work to take down the fall decorations and put up the Christmas/Hanukkah/New Years ones for December when I heard the announcement.  I just put "Fairy Tale of New York" on repeat and cried a bit while I finished decorating.  I think he'll always be one of my "I remember exactly where I was when I heard he died" people.  Like John Lennon (working 2nd shift processing school pictures), JFK (kindergarten!), and Kurt Cobain (driving to pick up the kids after school.) Shane was a Christmas baby himself, and didn't quite make it to age 66. 😪

But I have to say, apparently the first one was OK to say on SNL back in the Jane Curtin/Dan Ackroyd days!

I felt adrift during the show because if I don't post immediately when something strikes me as post-worthy, I totally forget it.  So I count on you - and everyone else - to spur my poor memory. 

I enjoyed the show.  I thought the first Sabado Gigante was better than this one, but this one was fine.  I used to like the joke swap, but the most recent ones haven't been as good, and I really didn't like last night's - except for Scarlett.  Not the jokes, just Scarlett.  

I thought all the guests were great. Loved the monologue.  And I really liked Hozier.  I don't think I knew anything about him other than his name, but I was entertained.

They did a very faithful version.  I think bands feel it's part of their job to include some seasonal material here and there around Christmas.

I didn't like Alec Baldwin before he killed someone and acted like a remorseless, buck-passing asshole about it, and I don't like him now. I hope they stop doing the 5 timer's club AND the joke swap. I'm also feeling like the "bullying Colin" jokes are played out. Enough. Think of a new idea.

Melissa McCarthy is always funny, though. I wonder if she resents playing the loud, obnoxious characters, or if she finds it fun.

I loved seeing the Peanuts kids dancing. Also really loved Martin's sweater in that sketch-- I WANT IT. Just the right amount of sparkliness.

The site glitches yesterday were so intense, it kind of undercut my focus on the episode, but I think overall that I'm not enjoying the "returning cast members and random celebs" as much the live audience did, and I would like to see more of the regular cast, especially the newbies. 

Is "Short" Marty's real, original surname, or did he adopt it as a professional pseudonym? If he adopted it, that there is an example of leaning in.

I thought the 5-timer  opening went on way too long. But I don't like it when the show gets self-referential, anyway.

I enjoyed the parade sketch and I liked the Charlie Brown sketch. It was  fun to see the cast dance just like them.

Scarlett was adorable in WU.

I liked Hozier a lot and it was nice to hear FINY.

I thought the cracking up was too much and really interfered with hearing the jokes. And I usually love that annual segment.

Scarlett was totally adorable in it, though.

I think the joke swap material must be much funnier on paper than when they deliver it live. It all gets lost in Jost and Che laughing and falling apart so much that there’s no comedic delivery and you can hardly even make out what they’re saying.

It’s like two drunk friends at a party going, “Hey remember that time we…” and they fall apart laughing and mumbling whatever the story is. They enjoy it, but nobody else knows what’s funny.

I've been over the segment for a long time and this was much too loose for me to enjoy. I did however love Bowen as the drone and can't imagine liking Sarah in the rôle even one eighth as much.

I liked some of the cold open even though the 5-timers club is hit or miss for me. It does depend on cameos and I didn't mind the large number of appearances. Tom Hanks' line that the 5-timers had started with laziness tickled me, and "I'm not that girl any more" and Steve Martin's scheduling conflict made me laugh, but overall it needed to be crisper. I was especially disappointed that Scarlett slamming the door on Colin didn't come off cleanly.

The parking sketch was too similar to the Quinta Brunson version without improving on it until Melissa McCarthy's part.

I laughed at the Delta lounge Drake or Josh joke and Martin Short refusing to let Paul Rudd into the lounge with the exaggeratedly delayed spit-take.

It takes a while for the cast to get dressed and get down to the rink. With how close they cut it at the end these days, they'd have to move really quick (or just put up a pre-tape at the end)

And also Martin Short is 76 and the temperature was way below freezing at 1am. I'm not surprised it doesn't happen very often.

When I noticed the propellors, I actually thought they were just plastic discs that looked like blades spinning. I think that would have been a better prop (so to speak). Unless Bowen was going to make a joke out of the propellors stopping, I found it distracting.

I was just going to say that. I would have been hilarious if executed better.

Yeah no, getting into an argument in a parking lot with a stranger is still a bad idea unless you're not worried about having a gun pulled on you. Or having Melissa McCarthy smear hot cocoa on your car window with her boobs.

I just watched the Netflix movie Carry-On (and read the novel Hostage) so the airport sketch hit different. Captain Sully!

Musical Guest: Gawd I am so sick of hearing Too Sweet. Hozier's hair is glorious though; Pantene should put him in an ad. And he gets bonus points for not lip-syncing.

OMG, even Diddy is thirsting after Luigi? No, Che! No!
Bubble rape. Oy, line screw-up of the week.
Disney putting Bluey in a movie with Cruella de Vil probably isn't far off the mark.
I wish they had used anyone but Bowen as the drone.
Colin trying to do "black voice" was all kinds of yikes.
Scarlett said a naughty word after that roast beef joke, lol. She probably knew the joke would be bad but not that bad.

I'm not familiar with the second song Hozier performed. Was it supposed to sound like an Irish shanty?  

The Charlie Brown Christmas musical from hell. Drake working with Lestat sounds about right to me. Snoopy look like a bitch to you?

Martin Short did his usual high energy thing but I kept waiting for Steve Martin to show up.

Even my kids noticed that and said he should have swapped mics with the backup singers.

As for the 5 timers club it does seem kind of played out. Although I did like the joke about how Tom Hanks invented it because he didn't want to do a monologue. Also Conan makes a way better jacket boy.
