Yes. This was the exhibition game that kicked off the TOC on January 24th. As the top three seeds, Adriana, Isaac and Basile got a bye and didn't have to play in the first round. The exhibition game gave them a chance to refresh their Jeopardy! skills, prior to the actual competition.

Audio of the game was actually streamed live via the TuneIn app on the Jeopardy! Radio station. I didn't listen live so I'm as much in the dark as to who won the game as anyone else is.

I'm laughing at the idea of a pre-tournament exhibition/practice game featuring two players who just played four five games in a row.

Was doing so well in J!; at the first commercial I had only missed one clue. Then they came back and got into VPs and left-side driving… Ran Sounds Like an Actor's Name, Newspaper Terms, and Gimme Some Backup, missed one in "IME" and three in Drive on the Left Side of the Road and Vice Presidency. In DJ I missed one in Bird "E"s, Anagrammed Bible People (did surprisingly well in that one, ironically I only missed the $400 clue) and Let's Talk About 6, two in Esperanto and Authors/Characters, and three in Sports Movies.

TSes: (J had 1 + the DD; DJ had 4) I got Ban Aflac, 8 seconds, hello & goodbye, and hope; I also got Pakistan but not until Ken said it was the country partitioned from India so I can't really take credit for that one..

FJ was an instaget.

I got the missed clues of Pakistan, 8 Seconds, hello/goodbye, heart, and hope.

I got the entire categories of esperanto and bird right.

I was dreading the Esperanto category, because hey, I don't know any esperanto.  But, it was fairly intutitive if you know any French or Spanish, or probably any Latin language.

No offense to either author, because I love books by both of them. But, I will never not get Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary mixed up.

Asked because I thought maybe FJ Atlas was an instaget for me because I saw it before.

But now I guess it was both a gimme to the players and a reminder of the importance of FJ wagering.

I cannot believe hello & goodbye was a TS.

I ran the entire first round.  Sounds Like an Actor's Name was a fun category.

In DJ, I missed three in authors and two in 6, but - get this - got all but one (Deborah) in the Bible category, and ran the rest.

To top it off, FJ was an instaget despite being a mythology clue.

But it was weird to air this after the tournament.

No, not before -- It was filmed on 12/4, after the quarterfinals concluded, to give these three who didn't have to compete in those quarterfinals some recent experience before joining the semifinals on 12/5.

J! did this before (maybe with a Masters tournament?), where those who had a bye played an exhibition game before joining the tournament, but the airing of that wasn't held until after the tournament.  That was weird.

If I'm remembering correctly, they aired an exhibition game on election day, at least partly out of concern that it would be preempted in a lot of areas.  So viewers wouldn't miss a game that was part of the continuity of the tournament.

It was jarring to see Drew B in this episode after five straight episodes of Ardianna and Isaac in the same podium positions. Every time they showed Drew, I was expecting to see Neilish.

I enjoyed watching this game.  The participants were more entertaining to watch, less pressure on them.

I find it interesting that Adriana has never named the university she works for. I am from Illinois and it’s obvious that it is Purdue, but I don’t know if she was told not to mention the university‘s name.

At least they are somewhat similar. I used to always get Pollock and Calder mixed up for no good reason.

Hubbie's a Purdue grad, watching a Purdue BBall game right now, so it was pretty obvious in this household as well.

I read on another Jeopardy discussion site (can't remember where now), that contestants are not supposed to give the names of where they are employed.  Can't say for instance American Express, Costco, or names of educational facilities.

I had a very soft spot for Cleary's few teen novels (Jean and Johnny, and The Luckiest Girl, off the top of my head) but they were much more innocent than Judy Blume's. 

I enjoyed seeing Adriana and Isaac again and even stopped to listen to their anecdotes which I quite liked. (I normally listen to anecdotes in regular play, but sometimes in tournament play if the vibe has been wearing on me and there's a lack of joie de vivre I have to skip them.)

Um, we don't need to talk about this game. I did run Clothes in J and Sudden "Death" in DJ, and missed only one in Novel Title Characters (I've never read the Narnia books). FJ was an instaget, at least.

TSes: (J had 2; DJ had 5 + 1 DD) I got Diamonds & Pearls (which I just looked up and saw was released on my 16th birthday!).

I'd vote for Matt for JIT villain.

FJ was an instaget, not because I had read both the Little House books and the Little Women books (which I did), but because my middle daughter was diagnosed with "Scarletina" when she was 7. It's sort of a medical euphemism for Scarlet Fever.

I like both Matt and Hannah and it could easily have gone the other way under the circumstances. They both played very well.

I enjoyed hearing about Hannah's visit with Mattea, Juveria, and Ray.

Dammit, I wanted Hannah to win.  I still have several more contestants to root for, but this tournament starts with a bummer.

I ran rhymes, presidents, and clothes and got all but The Magician's Nephew in characters, and missed two each in this & that and baseball, so I guess that's a good first round for a tournament game.

But DJ was not my round.  I didn't run anything.  I did get all but death cap in death, but I was terrible in albums, only getting Diamonds & Pearls, missed three in philosophy, and two each in the rest.

FJ was an instaguess I figured had to be correct, though.

I didn’t realize we were heading straight into another tournament, so I kind of groaned when the show started. But then I saw Matt and all was forgiven. Declaring himself a candidate for Tournament Villain while flashing a sheepish grin made me laugh. 

I like Hannah, but I’m mystified as to how anyone can run a successful yarn store. As one product in a craft store, sure, but are there really enough knitters to sustain such a thing?

FJ instaguess! It seemed like a logical choice, but the clue’s description of it as an infection + a rash sealed it for me. I assume the rash is where the “scarlet” part comes in.

Acronyms are fine, but “JIT” is such an ugly sounding word. It sounds like someone holding back a violent sneeze. I think it belongs in the Fetch vault, personally.

I agree that JIT just... sounds bad.

I don't know why it annoys me that they are doing so many Tournaments, but somehow it does annoy me.

In about 1930 my mother got scarlet fever at age 7.  She and her younger brother were quarantined along with their mother (my grandmother) for 2 weeks over Christmas.  Mom said they could only wave at their dad from the window, and her mother was so exhausted and lonely that she cried.

I know someone who owns a yarn store. It seems to be doing well enough.

I felt sorry for Doug. He seemed a little out of his depth. He goes back to the Art Fleming days, as he said, and according to J-Archive his most recent appearance prior to this tournament was back in 1993. So it's been over 30 years since he last played a game of Jeopardy! competitively. The style of play and the way they write the clues has probably changed quite a bit since then.

I said rheumatic fever even though I read the books numerous times.  My mother had RF as a child and it damaged her aortic valve.  Needless to say, rheumatic fever has stuck with me my entire life.

I can't stand him, so he's already a villain in my book.  But of the two who made FJ, he was less off-putting to me.

FJ was an instaget.  Interesting side note (to me anyway): while Mary's blindness was caused by scarlet fever in the Little House books sometime between On the Banks of Plum Creek and By the Shores of Silver Lake, it's unlikely to have been the cause in real life.  Experts now think it was more likely a form of viral meningoencephalitis.

I felt a little sorry for Doug as well.  Since Jeopardy tournaments are becoming more frequent, perhaps there should be one for seniors.  People who competed "back in the day".  I've been watching it since the 80's, so I could be in the audience for seniors - lol.

Not just knitting - there's crochet, embroidery, and needlepoint.  That said, we had a local yarn shop for years but rent was increased and now they're just an online presence. Makes it hard to determine colors, especially if you've run short and are trying to match colors.

I'm tired of all the freakin' tournaments.
