Hopefully Disney and DirectTv will work out their differences and restore access by the premier date.  ::shakes fist::

I’m in the same boat. Very frustrated!

Jeopardy!  airs on CBS in my area.
Since my son-in-law cancelled their Paramount+, my Jeopardy! options will be:

  • Antenna (over-the-air, leaf high on the wall)
    • The antenna signal has been pretty good since I last moved it over a foot, and has the advantage that I can record it onto my old VCR if need be.
    • I have a second antenna in the bedroom that often works when the livingroom antenna cannot get a signal and vice versa.

  • YouTube
    • I've pretty much got YouTube down.
I stop it at FJ in case they cut the Think Music and they go straight to the response.
    • It's a little stressful.
If YouTube winds up being my main method, I may just go to https://www.j-archive.com/showseason.php?season=41 first and set a timer for 30 seconds, then read the FJ clue.

  • J! Archive
    • Reading each clue, trying to come up with a response, revealing the correct response.

  • Re-upping Parmount+ for $13/mo.
    • If my CBS antenna access is such that I can't get Elspeth and the Matlock reboot, I may subscribe to Paramount+ for a bit.

*Kudos to the PrimeTimer site:
I started typing this post around midnight last night, and was almost done when my internet went out. When I was able to determine my ISP was working on it and it would be at least 4 hours, I went to bed.
8 hours later I refreshed this page and my post was still here with a message offering to clear it if I didn't want to post it anymore.

The deals may be expired by now, but a couple of weeks ago I got a year of P+with Showtime for $60 ($5/month, prepaid for the year) at one of the links below.  I don't remember which one; I had to try both, and try different browsers, but I eventually found a deal that worked.  Or if they don't work, at least google around for deals before you sign up at full price.

It also depends on other factors as well. We have AT&T and have lost a couple of channels but not ABC as that comes via Tegna who had a dispute last year with Disney & we lost the local ABC for months but they sorted themselves out.

Disney want more money from the providers like AT&T/Comcast etc. but they're obviously against giving them more $s as people cut the cord & go to streaming and their revenue dwindles.

It's very hit & miss on who gets affected by these things but as usual the viewers lose out causing more to go to streaming. It's the classic race to the bottom & the providers are circling the drain.

I'm going to be watching football tonight, so just checked the archive.  Thankfully, not being able to see the photos was generally not an issue.

I'm a bit surprised no one figured out immaculate conception; if I can, I figure just about anyone can.  The Chaucer TS also surprised me (and I was pretty bad in that category).  I'm bummed no one knew the song "To Be Young, Gifted, and Black".

I only missed three in the first round -- The Last of Us in pop culture, Tamerlane in AKA, and nudity in parenting (like the first contestant, my guess was swearing).

I ran "HY" (giving myself credit for hyacinth, because I'm sure I'd have recognized it from the picture), but that was it for DJ.  So I definitely have some rust to knock off, but not bad for a first game back:  I missed three in biographies and two each in the rest.

FJ was an instaguess I was certain was correct (I didn't specifically know about the pins, but died in 2022 + diplomacy had to be her).

September 9:

77% / 43% / 61%

Not a bad start…in J! I ran Parenting and "Mom" & "Dad", missed one in Planetary Extremes, and two in Highway 101, Pop Culture, and Also Known As. Second half not so great (so continuing as I left off last season)…ran "HY" Five, missed three in Historic Groups of 3, From the Italian, and Literary Biography, and four in Churches & Cathedrals and Songs for the Young & Old.

But I got FJ, after picturing her face but blanking on her name for most of the think music.

TSes: (J had 4 + the DD; DJ had 9 + 1DD) I got Uranus, Mercury, skedaddle, Chaucer, Immaculate Conception, and influenza (DD).

I did too, long time ago we cataloged a book about those pins, but I had to look her up to be sure because our local cut away just at the end of the think music to tell us that James Earl Jones had died. Which is sad, he was a great actor with a great voice but I think they could've waited just another minute.

My first thought for FJ was Shirley Temple, but I knew that was wrong -- I knew she died way before 2022.  After I got her out of my brain, I was able to come up with the correct FJ in the nick of time.

I also got the TS of Olympia, ditto, flu (assuming they'd have accepted that instead of influenza), and Chaucer.

Chaucer was a surprising TS.

For FJ! I very confidently said Ruth Bader Ginsburg and sat smugly for about 25 seconds, until I thought, oh, 2022. Never mind!

Same, but then:

Same, although all of the Think music, plus a little.
Whew!
When I was a young girl, one of the things I wanted to be when I grew up was ambassador to the U.N.

My only TSs were Uranus and Mercury.
I've loved astronomy my whole life.

I'm so glad to be back here with my nerdy people.

Thank you! Done! And noted on calendar to cancel before 12 months are up.
There are quite a few CBS shows I like to watch after they've aired.
Of course, I can't do that with Jeopardy!, but at least I won't be re-scanning antennas last minute during a blizzard with my fingers crossed.

I looked at facebook on my phone when I got home and the first thing I saw was a post from Jeopardy's page saying Rest in Peace, James Earl Jones (with a clue about him).

And when I went to look for it just now, I saw that the Inside Jeopardy podcast has a new host - Sam Buttrey!

I'm really annoyed Oregon was left out of the 101 category.  I thought they might have at least had a clue about the Tillamook Cheese Factory.

It didn't occur to me, but now that you mention it - that is annoying!

Starting off the year with an FJ answer, so I'm stoked. (we watched on YouTube, given the game, and will tomorrow as well, given the debate - not an ideal way to begin, but it works).

Welcome home, everyone! I have missed you.

I, of course, started the season in my usual form. Which is to say, I missed FJ. My answer was a very unconfident Shirley Temple Black. But I consoled myself by saying, at least I’m no dumber than a returning Jeopardy champ!

Mmmm… Tillamook Cheese. I trust you’ll be handing out samples in the  FJ contest thread, @Phebemarie? 😃

Well...I'd prefer to pass out samples from Face Rock Creamery in Bandon, Oregon (also on Hwy. 101).   It's a little closer to home, but not as well known.  Anyone for some Vampire Slayer Garlic cheddar cheese curds?

Bandon is also home to the famous-among-golfers Bandon Dunes golf course (also on Hwy. 101).

It is nice to be back and to see you all again.

I had gotten somewhat Jeopardy'd out by the end of last season so didn't watch any of the summer reruns.  Now I am all set for a new season.

Unfortunately I did not get yesterday's FJ - both Shirley Temple Black and Ruth Bader Ginsberg came to mind but I was pretty sure both were wrong - so, I had nothing.

That's how I play the subscription game - especially for streamers where I really only want to watch one or two shows that are already finished.

Ditto machines REEKED. And the blue dye got all over stuff. I do not miss that technology at all.

Shoot - that triggered my scent memory. As a kid, my friends and I transcribed the lines from "The Wizard of Oz" (for our production), at least one mother did not appreciate it. She was a bit fussier than the rest of our mothers. But as a grown up  now, I can appreciate her point of view.

In 1977 they were still teaching how to make dittos for educational purposes in my Instructional Technology program. Even then it was pretty much out of date.

September 10:

77% / 47% / 61%

Starting the same as yesterday…ran 1890s America and Have a Day!, missed one in 4 of the Same Consonant, and two in Celebrities Who Read Aloud, the Mafia, and Islands in the Sea.

DJ was slightly better than yesterday…but still terrible. Missed one in Mishmash, two in Dr. Ken and Will "CU" Now, three in Plays & Playwrights, and four in Arlington National Cemetery and Uncut Jams.

Did not get FJ. I knew there was a crescent alternative to the red cross, but I didn't know about the diamond.

TSes: (J had 2 + the DD; DJ had 5 + both DDs) I got giggling, A Christmas Carol (DD), .

I really didn't need a countdown to the debate in the corner of my screen the whole game, ABC…

I won't be home tonight (and it will be preempted by the debate anyway), so another archive game for me.

The giggling TS surprised me.

I ran 1890s (giving myself credit for blacksmith, figuring I'd have known it from the picture), consonants, and days, got all but the North Sea in islands, but missed two each in celebrities and the mafia, so a good but not great first round.

I ran mishmash and Dr. Ken, and got all but the Strindberg TS in playwrights and all but cutter in "CU" (giving myself credit for curlicue), but missed three each in Arlington (I've been there, so I thought maybe I'd do better than usual in a military category, but nope) and jams, so same for DJ.

FJ was an instaget.

It was the first clue picked in the category; I think they weren't paying attention to the title.

It was a video of three men hammering something on an anvil. I'd be surprised if you didn't.

I was expecting a disclaimer to pop up on the screen when I saw the "Arlington National Cemetary" category; something indicating that the episode was filmed prior to August 26th. Just me?

Do we know what day filming began for Season 41?

Yeah.
At the bottom of the J! Archive page for this episode it shows:
Game tape date: 2024-05-30

That's what happened to me. I said "chuckling", just like Mary Catherine, and didn't realize the 4-consonent mandate until after the ruling.

I had no idea for FJ. Of course, the husband guessed correctly, to my (very) grudging respect. (What is it about Jeopardy that engenders appreciation and irritation in equal measure?)

Did Will say he didn't get the final call in the KJ run, or that he got the call and declined? Because if it's the latter, he might be re-evaulating his life choices. If he had managed to unseat Ken, who knows, he could be hosting Jeopardy right now! (Not that this would be a wish fulfillment for me. I love Ken.)

Will said he was in the pool. He didn't say he declined, just that he was in the pool, and hoped if he got the call, he'd be competitive.

I knew Meryl Streep, phalanges, and, if they'd take it, President Lincoln's son. Plus FJ!

It's funny where some of my knowledge comes from. I got to phalanges because of the show Bones, where she wiggles her fingers in front of her child and says phalanges. Not that I haven't encountered the word before, but it's what cemented it in my mind.

We watched on YouTube knowing that in the west, it would be delayed. The video came up at about 7:35 eastern time (yes, we were waiting...) Monday's game was a YouTube game as well - because of Monday Night football. Looking forward to watching the regular broadcast tonight!
